Product Description

Angus:
My mixed-breed cat, half domestic tabby, half Scottish wildcat. The size of a small Labrador, only mad.

Thongs:
Stupid underwear. What's the point of them, anyway? They just go up your bum, as far as I can tell.

Full-Frontal Snogging:
Kissing with all the trimmings, lip to lip, open mouth, tongues ... everything.

Her dad's got the mentality of a Teletubby (only not so developed). Her cat, Angus, is trying to eat the poodle next door. And her best friend thinks she looks like an alien -- just because she accidentally shaved off her eyebrows. Ergghhhlack. Still, add a little boy-stalking, teacher-baiting, and full-frontal snogging with a Sex God, and Georgia's year just might turn out to be the most fabbitty fab fab ever!

A young Bridget Jones 5 by .. Marie Bennett (South East Idaho)
This book is great! I wasn't expecting much as it was an assigned book for a class I'm taking and the teacher's picks have been less than grand. To my great surprise this book was funny.
Georgia is a fourteen year old girl with a nack for embaressment. She somehow manages everything in her life with humor and sarcasm.
I found myself laughing because the situations are so familiar and universal. I too was the comic relief for my friends and have a life full of misfits. It feels great to see these qualities in Georgia.
Check out the movie trailer. The movie looks funny but isn't exact to the book. But what movie is?
I recommend this book for anyone who enjoys laughing at themselves and finds humor in the mundane.

I Want More... 4 by .. Shooting Stars Magazine (Ky,Ma,)
More Reviews, Interviews, Contests and More: www.shootingstarsmag.blogspot.com

This is the first book in the Georgia Nicholson series and the first time I've actually read the book. Yes, I realize I'm quite a few years late on this, but I just never really gave the books much thought until recently. The day I picked up this book at the library, I was with a friend of mine and she saw it and went "Oh, I've read that! It's really funny." And she was right...it was really funny. I wasn't laughing out loud at every page or anything like that, but it was definitely an enjoyable read for those that aren't too fond of reading or just want a fast, humorous story.
I'm definitely ready to read the next book (must get to the library) and continue reading this awesome series that is already up to book nine!
Georgia, the main character, is relatable on a lot of levels and the diary format of the book allows you to see directly into her thoughts and truly experience many of the emotions with her. I only wish I could transport myself in the story sometimes and enjoy the many escapades Georgia and the gang get themselves into too.

Another thing that I loved is that since I am American and had that version, the book was the same as the original British version, but included a Glossary in the back for the many slang words and such...I'm just happy when I come across words that I already know or recognize!

One of the Funniest Things I've Read in a Long Time! 4 by .. Mint910 (USA)
Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging is the first of nine (so far) in Confessions of Georgia Nicolson series. It's basically Georgia's diary we are reading. This book starts right before Georgia is to return to school. She's 13/14 years old. She has a crazy cat named Angus and a little sister named Libby who may have peed somewhere in her room. At first I thought it would be a sweet read made for maybe junior high readers. But it was hilarious, just hilarious! I'm ready to read all the rest of the books now! Georgia and her friend Jas get into some hilarious situations along with their other friends and frenemies! I just adore this book!

This series takes place in the UK so there may be some words Americans are not familiar with. Georgia has provided us with a hilarious glossary in the back of the book. I think the difference in language allows for new laughs that we haven't seen overused in American books.

Great Series... 5 by .. Goddesscd (Seattle, WA USA)
The title of her second book caught my eye one day. "On the bright side, I'm now the girlfriend of a sex god." The owner of the bookstore told me it was the second in a series though, and that I really should read the first one. I took a chance, and haven't looked back. I bought the book for a late night ferry ride, and I couldn't put the book down. Laughed my a$$ off.

I'm not a big reader, but I've read every one in the series!

There's an adult version, which could be equally as good, but I'm already 6 books in on the original version, so I'm sticking with it, and think it's more than worth the age gap between me and the main character. She's a british teenager, and she's hilarious!

A funny (slightly guilty) pleasure 4 by .. Miss Print (NYC)
There are six things very wrong with fourteen-year-old Georgia Nicolson's life at the beginning of her first diary volume (Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging):

(1) I have one of those under-the-skin spots that will never come to a head but lurk in a red way for the next two years.

(2) It is on my nose.

(3) I have a three-year-old sister who may have peed somewhere in my room.

(4) In fourteen days the summer hols will be over and then it will be back to Stalag 14 and Oberfuhrer Frau Simpson and her bunch of sadistic "teachers."

(5) I am very ugly and need to go into an ugly home.

(6) I went to a party dressed as a stuffed olive.

My friend "Barbie" is insanely fond of Louise Rennison's Georgia Nicolson series, starting with Rennison's debut novel Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging which was selected as a Michael L. Printz Honor Book in 2001. Having some free time after graduation, I decided to give the series a try. I read the first two books in as many days. Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging is quite funny and I did like it, but the more I read the more I felt like I shouldn't like it.

Georgia is not always the nicest person. She can be self-centered and rude. But she is so funny that it's hard to be angry about it. As Georgia tries to figure out exactly what growing up means (aside from landing the Sex God), she often finds herself in some awkward situations (see the mention of a stuffed olive above). Although a lot of the book is outlandish in its humor, Rennison's anecdotes are generally spot on in terms of authenticity. I have the old pictures with uneven eyebrows to prove it.

Part of my problem with this novel is that I couldn't gauge if the voice was accurate. To me, Georgia's diary reads more like that of a sixteen-year-old but after consulting with "Julie" it seems that Georgia's misadventures could be accurate. Not having been the same kind of fourteen-year-old as Georgia, I needed some outside confirmation.

It also bothered me (though not enough to stop reading the series) that Georgia largely seemed exactly the same at the end of the novel as she did at the beginning. It doesn't make the book better or worse, but it was something I noticed. If you want to see a similar book with more character evolution, check out Alice, I Think by Susan Juby another laugh-out-loud funny diary book with a teen narrator albeit a Canadian one this time.

All that aside, this book is hilarious. I'm usually hesitant of diary-style books but it works well here. Rennison uses the technique to amusing effect by including the time of certain entries to illustrate Georgia's often rash temperament. Part of me wants to take Georgia under my wing and save her from herself, but the rest of me knows that if I did that I wouldn't be able to enjoy the rest of Georgia's books. Oh the moral dilemma . . .

For some added fun, be sure to check out Georgia's glossary of English terms at the end of the book.

I was just a lost little girl forced to make it in a grown woman's world. A child turned out by the rulers of the game. When you get thrown into a snakepit you better learn how to wiggle! It's all about survival, baby. And not only did I learn the code of the streets, I made my own damn rules and got paid in the process. So listen close, but watch your pockets. I'm a Harlem girl. A scandalous chick. A ruthless mama. Me and this city are just alike. Grimy. And we never, ever sleep...

It's a hard knock life for Saucy Sarita Robinson and the rules of the game are clear: get yours or get had. When her father gets popped in an armed robbery and her mother turns to drugs, Saucy is left to scratch out a life for herself on the streets of Harlem, and this city-slick vixen refuses to become a victim.

Young, hot, and hungry for the spotlight, Saucy has a full package and uses her assets to get whatever she wants: 128th Street has its own rules, and she knows them well. With sex as her weapon of choice, Saucy hustles her way straight into the heart of the hip-hop underworld, preying upon any man -- or woman -- who might help her get ahead. But Hottt Saucy just can't get enough. Her calculating nature and insatiable appetite for power and prestige tempt her into dangerous waters, and before long she finds herself in too deep. The shot callers of the hip-hop world have a few tricks for Saucy -- a gutter plan to force her back onto the very streets that she came from.

But Saucy refuses to go down easy. She plots her revenge against some of the most powerful playas in the music industry, never suspecting that her enemies will fight back...and fight back hard.

A book to read-- 4 by .. L. Brown (OHIO)
This book is very very good, and I think Noire had to know someone of this caliber. Her Thongs were on fire and this was an excellent erotic and moving story of a young lady who longed for love and got it by any means necessary. Mind you I have read this book in 2007 but I still remember her life and her struggles and her ending. This book is a edge of your seat kinda book. Just read it....and judge for yourself.

Wow 5 by .. Monique Woods (usa)
I think this book was so good and just when you thought that saucy was gone be alright and take a different road she would go back to doing her. I never thought that she would hurt so many people like she did, even the ones who really loved her(tai, free). But it was a good read and i never thought it would end like it did!

Diamond in the rough 5 by .. Book Princess (New York)
This is truly one of the best urban lit books I have ever read! Well written, highly sexual, super entertaining, fast paced, funny, very believeable characters, raw and unforgiving. I am a new fan of her work. Great job!

Beautiful illustrations and great story 5 by .. Emily J. Taylor (Utah)
Ah, a journey to the vibrant colors of China! This is a sweet, detailed journey into colors and how they relate to the culture and world of China. The story is told in rhythmic poems that are delightful and sing-songy.

Fun book - great for real young ones 5 by .. mom of picky baby (Portland, OR)
This book is very simple and fun. My 4 yr old daughter reads it to me and loves the bright pictures. Her favorite part is the red dragon and drum. I bought this for a recent adoptee who is 15 months and she really enjoys it too - quick and bright in keeping with the extremely short attention span.

Beautiful colors, images and words! 5 by .. LB Los Angeles, CA ()
My 18 month old children (boy/girl twins) both love this book, but my daughter is especially taken with it. I read it to her before bedtime and she is just absolutely mesmerized by the beautiful, flowing poetry, the gorgeous saturated colors and the lovely images. I look at my kids' faces while reading it to them, and I see them each carefully and thoughtfully scanning each page, enjoying the colors and images and taking it all in. It's a perfect bedtime book. It is truly a treasure in our growing library. I give it to all my friends for baby showers or new baby gifts.

A Lovely Collaboration 5 by .. Holly (San Francisco, CA United States)
We have Red Is A Dragon and One Is A Drummer, both collaborations between Roseanne Thong and Grace Lin (as well as other Grace Lin books - which we just love!). Both books are beautifully illustrated and so fun to read with my 2-year-old daughter. Grace Lin's illustrations are our favorite. This is a wonderful book to learn a little about Chinese culture. Highly recommended!

Wonderul for those of us who have children from China 5 by .. KSL (Seminole, Fl United States)
Although my daughter was born in China and now living here in the US. I want her to know her heritage. Grace Lin and Roseanne Thong have created many terrific books that let me share with my daughter about Asian families and how they celebrate and most importantly how color plays such a vital role in the Asians eyes and lifestyles.

I love that Grace lin included dragon dancing and put feet under it for your child to see. I am trying to show my daughter that the Dragons used in Dragon Dances for the Chinese New Year is not a "live" dragon, but that there are many people or one person underneath and that they are wearing a dragon costume. Just like my daughter wheres a costume at Halloween. And then maybe this year she won't cry... or maybe not as much... she's only 2 1/2 years old.

I love that the book introduces us to the Chinese culture and how they eat different foods and instead of using forks, knives and spoons they use chopsticks! I love that one of the last lines in the book prompts your child to see what colors are around them, be it in their homes, backyards and else where. I also love that there are definations of certain words that we might be unfamiliar with. No matter if you live in America, Australia, Canada or Neatherlands or anywhere that Asains have found a place to call home, this book will help you open your child & families lives & eyed to how Asians live.

There are may terrific books by Grace Lin and Toseanne Thong, here's to many, many more books to come in the future!!!!!

Must read book for singles. 5 by .. Tamara F. Darnell (Cape Coral, FL United States)
Courtney's suicide attempt is brought on when her "pretending everything is fine" and she's forced to be "a bride's maid & never a bride" one more time. Every woman who's been thru several "bride's maid & never a bride" weddings can relate to this. Courtney opens up her life thru humor and sarcasm showing us her wounds and how she healed them. She is a great "kick a**" author. I hope she writes a sequel.

A Great Read! 5 by .. Christine (Los Angeles, CA)
This book takes a difficult, personal story and makes it relatable and inspirational. You will feel like you know the author, Courtney Walsh, as you are reading the book. Her sense of humor, honesty and compassion will move you!

Underground 5 by .. P. Capaldi (Rhode Island)
Excellent book - suggested by the [...] website.
Courtney Walsh does an excellent job of chronicalling the search for her own "authentic self" in our modern times - where one's own self identity is often a measure of subjective "standards".

Super insights! There indeed ought to be more books written about this subject.

Lipstick and Thongs 5 by .. MSN (UK)
Lipstick and Thongs grabs all the Nurse Ratched's ("One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest") in our society and cleverly forces them to take a closer, compassionate look at the taboo subject of suicide.

Author Courtney Walsh brilliantly uses her charm and wit to hold the readers hand as they stroll down a dark and lonely path together with a personal comprehension and confidence that has not been expressed in quite this way ever before.

A truly engaging, must read memoir that will touch your soul.

Life for Dummies! 5 by .. Book Worm (N. Kingstown, RI)
Finally someone has brought to life a story of mental illness, courage and survival - and you don't need a doctorate to understand it! This book should be on the 'must read' list for all young women. A fantastic tale of one woman's roller coaster ride through life. I'm not sure where I stopped laughing and started crying...

Too many travel guides are dry lists of attractions or portentous histories of a place. This isn't the case with The Thong Also Rises. Hot on the (high) heels of Sand in My Bra and Whose Panties Are These? comes this collection of the best in women’s travel and humor writing. These Ms-adventures take readers around the world and back again — and they’ll be happy to be reading rather than experiencing some of these adventures. Subjects include learning how to go to the bathroom with a pig in Thailand, trying to explain that sex toy to customs while Mother is watching, attending naked wedding ceremonies on Valentine’s Day in Jamaica, conquering that consuming fear of wooden puppets with a visit to Prague, boarding a crusty old Soviet Bomber in Laos, and more.

An uneven collection ranging from enjoyable to fascinating 3 by .. P. Mann (Los Angeles)
The thirty-two pieces in this book, all by women, cover quite a range. In the first piece, Ellen Sussman relates the story of her first trip to a nude beach, a theme revisited later in the book by Elizabeth Asdorian in "The Naked and the Wed," an article about the difficulties of seeing the entire wedding party at a beach where clothes are forbidden. Other authors discuss almost everything travel related, from smuggling prescription drugs into the United States to the difficulty using bathrooms in foreign countries to how to respond when airport security in Laos alerts you that your bag is not quite ticking but rather vibrating.

The pieces here are mostly magazine fare and a rather mixed lot at that. Several I enjoyed immensely. Tamara Sheward's "Pills, Thrills, and Green Around the Gills" is an extremely funny account of how not to travel in Laos and what to do if, against all advice, you insist on traveling in a flight on a plane that inspires anything but confidence. Susan Orlean's "Lifelike" is a fascinating glimpse at taxidermists and the 2003 World Taxidermy Championships. I'm not sure what exactly this article had to do with travel, the ostensible theme of the book, but I found Orlean at her best here as she shares a world far removed from most people's everyday experiences. A third piece worth mentioning is Amy C. Balfour's "Just Another Malibu Minnie," an account of the author's participation in a triathlon.

In addition to these three, there are other solid pieces worth reading, but I found the collection too uneven to be truly outstanding. Still, the length of the articles allowed me to move quickly through the book, hoping the next piece would be a gem. Sometimes, it was.

A different sense of humor 1 by .. Doggoneit (Nashville, TN)
This book was recommended to me by a former fellow traveler to Morocco as being laugh-out-loud hilarious. I just must have a different sense of humor, because it did not tickle my funny bone enough for me to even finish it. And I hate to leave a partially read book unfinished.

This is a compilation 2 by .. M. Grosman (Amsterdam, NL)
I enjoyed reading some of the authors in this book (eg Ayun Halliday), but these stories aren't necessarily new- they're extracts from already published novels. I was disappointed about this as I was looking for well crafted short stories, but what you get is a series of anecdotes, not all of them funny and not many of them particularly interesting.
Look up the contributors and buy their individual works.

A Fun Summer Read! 5 by .. Susan Alcorn (Oakland, CA USA)
Just the book to have when you want a few stolen moments of pleasure. Clearly not all of the travel writers would have termed their adventures fun at the time, but their stories are certainly entertaining for their readers. Of course I'll never see pigs in quite the same light, and I guarantee you I'll never get caught dueling with dogs in the altogether!

The Thong Also Rises 5 by .. Dr. Tami Brady (Calgary, Canada)
We've all had at least one of those vacations that didn't turn out as expected. We've all been confronted by unhygienic bathroom situations when we really had to go. We've all likely done or said something so embarrassing while on vacation that we swore to ourselves that we swear we will never tell anyone as long as we live, only to later find ourselves recounting the tale to anyone that will listen.

The Thong Also Rises: Further Misadventures from Funny Women on the Road! is a hilarious compilation of stories about such vacations that didn't quite turn out as expected. The authors of these accounts share their own stories of events that were just too juicy, hilarious, and utterly embarrassing to keep to themselves. I have to admit I felt much better about my own vacation misadventures once I read about Ellen Sussman's experiences on the nude beach, Deanna Sukkar's little custom's problem, and Ann Lombardi's ironing difficulties.

Loons, love and large cats 5 by .. ()
Angus,Thongs and Full Frontal Snogging is about a teenage girl named Georgia Nicolson, who is living a slightly crazy life. Her sister's a loon, her parents are insane, and her cat, Angus, is the size of a small bear. Through guys, crazyness, Stalag 14(high school) and evil prefects, Georgia has laughs and tears shared with her friends.
Georgia and one of her friends, Jas, go on a "spying" trip, to the house of an "evil" prefect,(wet) Lindsay. They find out some of her deepest secrets that she never tells her boyfriend, Georgia's crush, Robbie Jennings. Wet Lindsay never finds out that Jas and Georgia were there, but they do have some great blackmail that could be used for later...
Angus, Thongs and Full Frontal Snogging is one of the funniest books I've ever read. Georgia gets herself into situations that teenage girls get themselves into today. Georgia also makes you really think about what to do before you do it. Also, some of the characters really do relate to you. This book helped me increase my laughter and find joy in the little things in life.
