Product Description With his characteristic warmth and humor, Dr. Kevin Leman offers a practical guide to sex according to God's plan. This frank and practical book is a perfect resource for married and engaged couples. Now in softcover. Customer reviews Leman offers solid contribution for Christian couples looking to rev up their physical relationship by .. Matthew P. Cochrane (Fort Lauderdale, FL) Dr. Kevin Leman, a popular psychologist and author, has appeared on numerous television and radio programs including Good Morning America, Today, The View, and Focus on the Family. Most of his many books focus on family and parenting relationships, dispensing advice from a Biblical worldview on how to raise children and have a healthy, fulfilling marriage. He wrote Sheet Music because of the supreme importance sex plays in our lives and the little attention sex within marriage receives from our society.
"Oh, we joke about sex, degrading it through filthy stories, movies, and magazines, but we never talk about marital sex in the way the Creator designed it," Leman writes. "Marital sex - the most important and only appropriate kind, in my view - gets ignored, and couples pay a fearful price when this sad reality happens. He continues, "If you're married, sex will be one of the most important parts of your life, whether you want it to be that way or not. If you don't treat sex this way - as a matter of supreme importance - you're shortchanging yourself, your spouse, and your kids."
Leman attempts to do two things with Sheet Music: explain why having sex is important for a married couple and how to do it better. He starts the book by detailing how many different factors determine our different sexual attitudes and demeanors. Here he states the obvious ones like parental influence and early childhood memories, as well as the less evident, such as the birth order among siblings.
Many of the chapters in the book are general and would apply to almost anyone. For example, Leman writes one chapter on different sexual positions, explaining the basic mechanics of the most commonly practiced positions. Other chapters are dedicated to foreplay, eliminating sexual turnoffs, gender differences between men and women, spice and variety in marital sex, and oral sex. These portions of the book are beneficial to anyone engaged in a monogamous sexual relationship and a discussion of the Biblical perspective of these topics are desperately needed in our society, both for Christians and non-Christians alike.
For example, in Leman's chapter on oral sex he recalled a time he was on a radio program with another "Christian authority" that apparently was all too eager to denounce oral sex, even within the confines of marriage. During his rant, Leman leaned over and whispered, "Don't knock it until you've tried it." I believe these legalistic beliefs exist within some Christian circles because of a lack of knowledge and frank discussion on the Biblical view of sex. These extra-Biblical opinions, besides being plain wrong, also can harm Christian marriages.
Other parts of Sheet Music were directed toward more specific audiences, even though all could benefit from reading them. In "Learning to Make Music" Leman writes to engaged couples who have abstained from sex in their relationship thus far. Besides encouraging the couple to wait until they exchange vows, he also gives them a number of tips on how to make their first experience both an enjoyable and learning experience. In "Sex in the Winter" Leman talks to older couples on the joys of sex in one's "forties, fifties, sixties, and beyond." Here he writes about the many changes occurring in men and women and what they can do to compensate for these changes.
I have to give Dr. Leman credit for so openly tackling a subject that many within the Christian community have either ignored or glossed over. When talking and writing about sex, it is easy to either do so in crude terms or clinical, sterile terms. Here Leman does a fairly good job of using plain English without venturing too far in either direction. Leman never minces words or avoids a touchy subject, as he answers questions on everything from anal sex to pornography to the use of sex toys (i.e. vibrators). While I might not necessarily agree with every single opinion he gives throughout the book, I can't fault him either. In many cases I was just glad that a Christian source was discussing these subjects and making the information available.
Given the sensitive topics, he also peppers his writing with humor, which keeps the book interesting and fresh and keeps him from taking himself too seriously. Dr. Leman also has an extensive background in marital counseling and constantly uses real life examples to illustrate the points in his book. These stories are much more engaging to the reader than if the material was simply related in an informative, textbook-type approach.
Sheet Music is far from the complete, thorough guide to sex for couples. It is, however, a good start and a solid contribution. Addressing timely and relative topics, Dr. Leman does a great job of dispensing Biblical, Christian advice to married couples on sex. The greatest value in this book is its easy-to-read, breezy style, and the range of topics it covers both openly and sensitively. I would heartily recommend this book to any married couple.
Thank you Jesus! by .. L. E. Simpson II () This book is a God Send book. The Bible states, "My people are destroyed for the lack of knowledge," and I must say that the knowledge Dr. Leman imparts regarding scripture is truly a marriage saver. My wife and I are a young couple and there are things that we know about marriage and each other that will help our relationship grow, but there are some things we just didn't know about each other as it relates to the power of sexual intimacy and the necessaity of it to have a vibrant relationship without children and with children. There are things that our parents did not teach us becasue they didn't know them to teach us, but now we can teach our children and each other in the process. Overall, we have a greater respect for the act of sex as it pertains to God and a greater respect and understanding for each other regarding sexual intimacy. My wife and I even desire to purchase this book for other couples that they may be enlightened by this book and glorify God in a most dynamic way!
Great Book!!! by .. Chris Hall (COLONIAL BEACH, VA USA) This was a great book to read and as newly weds me and my wife have found it to be very helpful. Highly recommend it to anyone who is either married or engaged.
God Bless!!
AWESOME! by .. Lisa Joly (Lapeer, Michigan) Finally a book that answers all the questions everyone has been asking about sex. He is blunt and up front. Kevin Leman is awesome and you will learn everything you ever need to know about sex and were too embarrased to ask.
My Favorite Book About Marriage! by .. Trinity Diodore (Ohio) I LOVE THIS BOOK! I can't say enough good things about it. The author has a unique blend of humor, medical advice, marital advice and bluntness that makes it all somehow work. With a touchy subject like this (no pun intended), it could be an awkward topic. Not with this book! I actually couldn't put the book down. There was so much good information in it. The author's Christian perspective was great, but thankfully, it's not the kind to hit you over the head, so to speak. This is a fantastic book and couples of all stages will appreciate it.

Product Description Easy Piano Arrangemnts. Titles include: Foolish Games * The Greatest Love of All * I Will Always Love You * My Way * Over the Rainbow * The Prayer * There You'll Be * A Thousand Miles * Time to Say Goodbye * Your Song and more. Customer reviews Very basic, but nice by .. Hilary Roberts () I read all the reviews about how easy this music was. Obviously, it's very hard to quantify how easy or hard based on experience. I was looking for something I could just sit down and play without having to practice at it, and it's perfect for that. There's nothing more than two flats or sharps, but you definitely need to have been playing for a few years to really enjoy the music. The only thing I don't like about it is that it is almost too simple. You lose something in some of the songs when it is simplified too much, but that's the price I had to pay to get something at the level I wanted. It's also very hard to sing along with, because he uses lots of high notes without puting in any lower notes you could shoot for instead. That said, however, it's perfect for what I wanted.
More Easy Arrangements of Popular Songs From Dan Coates by .. Susan Y. Schoonover (Boulder, CO) Like the songs in many other piano books Dan Coates has arranged and edited the pieces included here are easy to play. The book has twenty-five compositions all with complete lyrics which makes it a good book for a beginning voice student as well. Some of my favorite standards are in this book including THE WIND BENEATH MY WINGS, SOMEWHERE OUT THERE, THE ROSE, THEME FROM NEW YORK, NEW YORK and MY WAY. Country hits like GOD BLESS THE USA are here as well as Elton John's 70's hit YOUR SONG plus many other well loved songs to make a total of twenty-five selections. Great collection that is fun to play and not too difficult.
Good music for basic piano players by .. Jacob Johnson (Queen Creek, AZ USA) The music isn't too difficult and is good for beginners.
PIANO MUSIC FOR CLAVINOVA by .. Mary-Lou Hood-Brangers (TN) I play a Clavinova and I could arrange this music with the sounds from the clavinova I needed for a "amateur" pianist. I usually play chords and this allowed me to do so easily.
Popular Sheet Music Hits by .. P. Aston (Utah) This music provides a great variety of songs. It is easy piano for those who know how to play, but would provide a challenge for beginners. The price is amazing for this many popular songs in one collection. I would highly recommend any of this author's music collections.

Five selections from this book were chosen for the Royal Conservatory of Music Popular Selection List (2007 Ed.): Colors of the Wind * Over the Rainbow * The Pink Panther * Send in the Clowns * A Whole New World. Customer reviews Slightly disappointing, but still enjoyable by .. Andre Valynevic (Maryland, United States) In case it wasn't clear from the other reviews, the version of the book sold here is intended for EASY PIANO. It's fulfilling in that regard, but that means the arrangements struggle to create easy rhythms (which barely match the original composition), and are often transcribed for an easier key (or in order to avoid a key change). With a little effort, many of these can be adapted to provide the richer melodies & tonalities that you would expect to find in other arrangements by Dan Coates. The selections are diverse to the point where it's hard to determine what makes any of these the "best" -- it just looks like stuff was picked randomly to appeal to a wider audience. If I'd been able to flip through this in a music store, I probably wouldn't have bought it. The book's binding is decent, but from my experience with similar books I wouldn't give it daily exposure to the sun due to the weak type of glue used.
The Best in Movie Sheet Music by .. Sharon L. House (Porterville, Ca. USA) It has a nice selection of easily played music from a wide range of eras. The arrangements are nicely done.
Twenty-four easy to play songs from movies by .. Susan Y. Schoonover (Boulder, CO) As advertised this book contains songs that have appeared in movies. Most of the arrangements are quite easy to play or sing. There are twenty-four songs in the collection and some are common standards such as SOMEWHERE OVER THE RAINBOW, STAR WARS THEME, THE PINK PANTHER THROUGH THE EYES OF LOVE from ICE CASTLES and SINGING IN THE RAIN. Disney is very well represented with COLORS OF THE WIND, GOD HELP THE OUTCASTS, SO THIS IS LOVE, A WHOLE NEW WORLD and ONCE UPON A DREAM. Broadway musicals made in to films are also part of this book with SEND IN THE CLOWNS and TOMORROW. Rather oddly an easy to play arangement of Led Zeppelin's classic STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN is chosen by virtue of that song being played in the documentary THE SONG REMAINS THE SAME. The rest of the selections are a bit more obscure (at least to me) but the table of contents does helpfully list the movie from which each song is taken. Full lyrics are included with the exception of the one instrumental selection Pachebel's CANON IN D from ORDINARY PEOPLE. There are songs from movies as recent as THE POLAR EXPRESS and THE NOTEBOOK but most pieces are older. A good collection but not a great one.
great piano book by .. Happy Amateur Musician (Arlington, VA USA) We just got a piano a month ago and although I took lessons for many years as a kid, I really had not played in 20 years. With only a little practice, I was able to play several of the songs in this book pretty quickly, and while others will take more work, they are at a good level: not too simplistic, but not hard.
The Best Book! by .. () Wow! I play the piano and sing and I am telling you that this book is one of the best compilations - I sing and play at the same time with ease. I recommend this book to all who enjoy music.

Product Description Six original compositions for solo piano, by Michael Nyman, from the award winning film by Jane Campion. English composer Michael Nyman has developed into one of the most popular, if not important, composers of film music, and his film score for the 1992 film the Piano is without doubt the most famous and familiar of his compositions. The tone of Campion s film is perfectly emphasised by Nyman s style and though much here is beautiful and rich, it is a haunting and foreboding sound picture that reflects the greys of sea, sky and spirit. Customer reviews Amazon Delivers the Music by .. Frank Tampa Piano (Tampa, FL United States) I was really impressed with the entire purchase and selection of the sheet music from Amazon. I was able to print a sample of music to determine if it was proper for my level of play, and Amazon then delivered it flat as a pancake (in mint condition) to my door within three days.
This is a good book with notes and fingering suggestions that are clear. I play by sight and it is important to me to have clear, visible notation. The music is fantastic and it is rather easy to learn.
I purchased the book solely for Big My Secret, and on this song, Nyman writes his music very well. His style can be anticipated while you play. When you are going up an Arpeggio, there are not unique variations for the sake of being cute. Other composers will often throw in double sharps or double flats to make their music look different. Not with Nyman. An Arpeggio is an Arpeggio. The beauty is in the simplicity. The various scales and Arpeggios are written into Big My Secret as if Nyman laid them there with a delicate touch.
His use of accents and changing tempo allow the pianist to provide expression. Big My Secret is a small, but fantastic piece to add to any repertoire.
Impressive and Fulfilling by .. KingFifty4@aol.com (Colorado) This buy was MOST definitly worth the purcahse. I'm obviously a huge fan of Nyman's but i was blown away by the notes he writes on page. THE PIANO sheet music only contains 6 songs, and two of them i have already commited to memory, and its only been 2 weeks. In fact, all of the songs except DEEP SLEEP PLAYING are on the soundtrack. The sheet music seems to have about 10 measures not contained on the soundtrack somewhere, but all of the main themes in the sheet music are on the soundtrack. Learn THE HEART ASKS PLEASURE FIRST, i have never had so many compliments playing song before until i learned this one. It's worth it.
Appreciation of the different styles by .. () This book is amazing, although it doesn't have all of the songs from the film it has a wide variety of styles. Silver fingered fling is very energetic compared to The pedalling ankle. The most beautiful is Big my secret , the way it combines the slow but flowing melodies with the scale like interludes is very impressive. The heart asks pleasure first is the main them of the film but it is never played the way which is written in this book, which combines the different variations into one incredibly atmospheric theme.
6 pieces book. by .. N. Nielsen (USA) Great music!!! The hot spots of this book are the pieces: "Big my Secret" and "The Heart Asks Pleasure First", which is NOT as difficult as it seams when you hear it on the CD or movie, but is impressive when you play it. The other 4 pieces are not on the soundtrack CD, at least their names aren't. Some information about the author and his work on the movie soundtrack.

Customer reviews Commonplace by .. C. Schaffer () I should have read the reviews more carefully before I bought this book. I would have been happier with the original sheet music as these arrangements were uninteresting--basically embellishments that any pianist with some experience could add on their own. At least the sheet music would have included the words. If you are looking for arrangements with pizzazz (a little "wow!" factor here and there), don't buy this book.
Great songs, challenging arrangements... by .. () This arrangement of songs by Dan Coates is definately challenging. I actually have to practice to get through these. Not for the beginning piano player. This book is for moderate to advanced talent levels. Great songs like Desperado, Angel Eyes, The Rose, Open Arms and more. My only complaint is that delivery time was VERY slow. Took nearly a month to receive.
Wow! This book is GREAT! by .. Erin (Atlanta, Ga) For some time now I have been looking for a book that would challenge me and make me practice! Most of my books I have played for years and as a result I don't have to work to play any of my music. So, I started looking for some advanced books and came across this book by Dan Coates. I've had it just over a month and love it! I've love all the "extras" that have been added! I'm back on Amazon looking for more books by Dan Coates! If you are looking for a book to challange you, and a book that you will enjoy while learning each song, then you need to buy this book!!! You won't be disappointed!
One of the best I've seen by .. rsbaker0 () This book almost single-handedly got me back into piano playing after a 20-year hiatus. I've never been happy with the arrangements in most popular sheet music, especially "PVG" and "Easy Piano" sheets -- they are too simple and have almost no left hand accompaniment to speak of. Generally, there are no chords or arpeggios -- just single note "plink, plink, plink" etc. while the right hand has to carry the whole song. On the other hand, many of the arrangements in this book (and in Dan Coates "Advanced" and "Professional Touch" books in general) have *wonderful* left-hand accompaniments and dramatic chording and other nice touches for the right-hand. Difficulty ranges from intermediate ("The Rose", "Open Arms") to advanced ("I Will Always Love You"). Sure, if you're talented enough to arrange for yourself you might find fault, but for those of us who just read and play and like to play popular music, this is an exceptional book.
Not a good idea by .. (New Haven, CT United States) Sheet books of contempoary music, I have found, are generally a bad idea. They are usually mediocre arrangements that take away the beauty of a song that was never intended for a solo instrument. This compilation is no exception and many of the arrangements are unacceptable rips. I found many of the arrangements in this collection are "light" and unappealing. But admittedly the fault is more in the genre of music than in the arrangements per se. The musician advanced enough to read this music will gain more satisfacaction trying to arrange the songs himself from a public domain chord sheet! If you're desperate and really need to play some popular music on the spot, it might be worth investing in this book.
