Product Description With this book, you will find discounts, good deals, and free stuff just for Texans ages 50 and up. Customer reviews If this book were up to date, I would give it 5 stars by .. L Willis (Arlington, TX United States) I'm sorry that I bought this book.
The author lists discounts from stores that no longer exist.
The book was written in 1997. Since then, Cloth World was bought by Jo-Ann's and Hancock fabrics went into chapter 11 bankruptcy.
I would be willing to purchase an updated version of this book. The author lists many resources that are still good.
Looking for a Good Deal? by .. Virginia Allain (Poinciana, FL) This was recommended by the Texas Municipal Retirement System in their Winter 2006 newsletter. Even though it was published a few years ago, they advise that the money-saving ideas are still useful.
It categorizes the savings into: airlines, car rental, auto maintenance, home and garden, banks, insurance companies, camping and recreation, cruises, bus and rail tours, groceries, hotels, legal and tax services, medical and dental services, movies and performances, restaurants, department stores, and sports tickets.
In the back of the book, the index is arranged by city name so you can look in your local area for savings.
Excellent, layout is very good and easy to use by .. () Contains information I was not able to find anywhere else. In my opinion, Sylvia did a very thorough research on this subject. I found the information to be very complete. The only exception is one grocery store in Georgetown that offers senior discounts of 5% on Wednesdays. This was offset by at least 12-15 discounts that were new to me. The book is very well organized. It provides listings by type of discount and location (city or town). It exceeded my expectation!

Customer reviews Heavy on facts, light on opinion by .. FrequentFlyer (Philadelphia, PA USA) A good guidebook provides recommendations to help a traveler get the most out of a vacation, and adds facts to assist the traveler to then do so. (A good traveler can then evaluate the facts and opinions, throught he prism of his or her own tastes, to determine the best use of their time and money.) This book provides virtually no opinions -- what restaurants are worth my money? what attractions are worth my time? where are the best values? -- The book almost feels like an annotated telephone book. The author is a "local", and it seems like she is afraid to offend anyone for fear of running into them at the grocery store. So she sticks to the facts -- and there are lots and lots and lots of them. But it would be very difficult to plan a good trip solely with this book. If it has any use, it would be as an additional factual companion to another guidebook.
Very Helpful and Fun Read by .. Texas Traveler (Texas) I really liked this guide, especially the historical background and the insights into the culture.
Witty and fun to read -- I felt that I could trust the author.
The descriptions of the lodging and restaurants really rang true. (Don't miss the Gristmill in Gruene!)
This book helped me make the most of my trip to the region.
Great state, great guide!
