Product Description

Lynn Johnston's For Better or For Worse is the world's most popular family strip in which characters evolve through age and experience, rather than remaining frozen in time. Readers appreciate the daily doings of the Patterson family, which often mirror their own.

·Senior's Discount: A For Better or For Worse Collection follows John and Elly as retirement looms, Grandpa Jim celebrates his 85th birthday and suffers a stroke, Mike and Deanna adjust to the demands of parenthood, Elizabeth accepts a teaching position that brings her back home, and April strains for more and more independence.

·Simultaneous to the publication of this collection, Johnston makes an unprecedented move within the newspaper cartooning community—developing a new format by using former plot lines as a jumping-off point for new ones.

For Better or For Worse has been syndicated since 1979 and has been named Best Syndicated Comic Strip. The strip boasts a lively Web presence at www.fborfw.com

Lynn Johnston 5 by .. J. Gager (Houston.TX)
I have been reading her comic strip since the beginning and have to have all the collections, Would recommend this addition.

Lynn Johnston - Genius 5 by .. Yokohamamama (Yokohama, Japan)
Lynn Johnston is briliant. Somehow she knows exactly what will occur in my life before it actually happens. Oh, the names are changed, and the minor details, but the fundamentals are the same.

It is obvious that she writes "For Better or For Worse" from her own experiences, as they are so like mine, and, I believe, like those of many others. In fact, as she is a little ahead of me, she has often helped me get through situations by putting them in (often hilarious, sometimes poignant) perspective.

Her entire series of comic strips is humourous, touching, and oh, so real. My only complaint is that she can't produce as fast as I can read. If it were possible, I would give her more than five stars, for this, and all her other FBOrFW collections.

Teluria 5 by .. Frances Woodard (Laconia, NH United States)
Lynn writes from the heart which reaches all of us as well as makes us laugh. Growing up with her family, we identify with the adult characters as well as with her cartoon children, Michael, Elizabeth and April. Humorous, entertaining and touching, Lynn keeps me waiting in eager anticipation for her next book.

The Best in the Business 5 by .. Jerome K. Tidmore (Little Rock, AR, USA)
For over 25 years, Lynn Johnston has done something few others have attempted. She has let her characters age and kept us involved with their lives in a humorous and loving manner. Like Doonesbury, her strip is a saga of people, events, and emotions and throughout Lynn has proven she is a comic strip artist with a conscience.

I recently started re-reading the entire series, doing one book per week or so. It has been excellent bedtime material and helps remind me that some more hope and humor helps us cope with our daily lives.

Johnston never strays from reality in portraying what is "for better or for worse." Fortunately for the readers, she also never strays from reason or doing what's right. Canada has a national treasure and her name is Lynn Johnston. And she has created the best Canadian ambassadors for goodwill ever to grace the comics pages: the Patterson family, their friends, and their pets.

If you've never read this series, buy them all. You won't be dissatisfied with a single book. If you already know this series, then you know everything I've written is true and even better than I can write about it. And, you probably are already at the stage in life where you qualify for a "Seniors' Discount."

The decline of a great strip 1 by .. DebJyn ()
This collection shows how far the quality (and the likeability)of the FBoFW has fallen. We see the oldest child basically crawl back into the womb, ignore his children and wife and accept handouts from his parents (while villifying his in-laws). The older daughter leaves a job, a dedicated boyfriend who has completely re-ordered his life for her, and a community of friends simply because her old boyfriend (with whom she has been having an emotional affair) has finally gotten rid of his wife. The younger daughter has demonstrated that she will take any behavior from her boyfriend, just to get attention.

Ms. Johnston should have retired this strip years ago.

Can I give it less than one star? 1 by .. Dorey E. Evans (Springfield, VA USA)
You already know all this stuff. Or I hope you do. I sent for this and was happy that Amazon has a liberal return policy.

Understated Title 5 by .. Liz Ellerbe (Fresno, CA)
And I thought I knew it all. Just glancing through this book at the library, I decided to buy it. It's taught me more about phone techniques for all the services than the phone book does. The scope of the book is so vast I'll leave it to buyers to discover.

I'm recommending it to quite a few people since it's the best advice book I've seen yet on just about everything, including subjects I didn't know I needed.

The Frugal senior 5 by .. Jacque Weser (McHenry, Ill)
This book was fabulous! Worth every penny and more. I have reccommended it to everyone I know.

Re-use and refinement as keys to savings 5 by .. D. Donovan, Editor/Sr. Reviewer (California, USA)
THE FRUGAL SENIOR: HUNDREDS OF CREATIVE WAYS TO STRETCH A DOLLAR covers everything from handling rising energy costs to recycling old clothing, simplifying garden maintenance, reducing the costs of gift-giving, and more. All the common expenses of daily living are dealt with here, with solutions to throwaway habits and rising costs focussing on re-use and refinement. An excellent, basic guide consumers will welcome.

An excellent reference for the aging "frugal" lifestyle in essence and hopes of truly stretching the every dollar 5 by .. Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA)
The Frugal Senior: Hundreds Of Ways To Stretch A Dollar by Rich Gray is an innovative and quite "user friendly" guide to understanding and applying the short-cuts, manipulations, and practicalities of working with very little money to obtain personal financial and lifestyle goals. Introducing the reader to a humorous format of the every in and out of resourcefulness and situational remedies and availability utilization, The Frugal Senior is an excellent reference for the aging "frugal" lifestyle in essence and hopes of truly stretching the every dollar, and is very highly recommended to all readers (regardless of their ages or economic circumstances) who are searching for answers to their financial problems and plans.

If this book were up to date, I would give it 5 stars 2 by .. L Willis (Arlington, TX United States)
I'm sorry that I bought this book.
The author lists discounts from stores that no longer exist.
The book was written in 1997. Since then, Cloth World was bought by Jo-Ann's and Hancock fabrics went into chapter 11 bankruptcy.
I would be willing to purchase an updated version of this book. The author lists many resources that are still good.

Looking for a Good Deal? 5 by .. Virginia Allain (Poinciana, FL)
This was recommended by the Texas Municipal Retirement System in their Winter 2006 newsletter. Even though it was published a few years ago, they advise that the money-saving ideas are still useful.
It categorizes the savings into: airlines, car rental, auto maintenance, home and garden, banks, insurance companies, camping and recreation, cruises, bus and rail tours, groceries, hotels, legal and tax services, medical and dental services, movies and performances, restaurants, department stores, and sports tickets.
In the back of the book, the index is arranged by city name so you can look in your local area for savings.

Excellent, layout is very good and easy to use 5 by .. ()
Contains information I was not able to find anywhere else. In my opinion, Sylvia did a very thorough research on this subject. I found the information to be very complete. The only exception is one grocery store in Georgetown that offers senior discounts of 5% on Wednesdays. This was offset by at least 12-15 discounts that were new to me. The book is very well organized. It provides listings by type of discount and location (city or town). It exceeded my expectation!
