H. Perez (NY) I just purchased this handbook and I would say that it is worth the money. It is not a replacement to the IEEE NESC but a very important reference material. This book has excellent drawings and pictures to expound on the various subjects. I like it very much and I would recommend it to anyone who is involved in the operation, engineering, and maintenance work on any electric utility facilities. Of course, NEC and NESC can't be compared.
Negative Review is Mistaken by .. Sean (Austin, TX United States) I have not read this book, but I noticed the first review bashes it because he wants practical-wiring NEC regulations. The NESC addresses design requirements up to the service point, and does not deal with "how-to" regulations beyond the service point (which are covered seperately by the NEC). His review is simply inapplicable.
Boothe is mistaken by .. philipshelt (cincinnati, ohio) The previous reviewer (Boothe) is greatly mistaken about the purpose and quality of this book. Although i do not own this edition, previous editions have always been excellent. Apparently he did not realize that the National Electrical Safety Code is specifically written for utility workers, lineman, substation maintenance and construction, power generation etc. The National Electrical Code is the designated code for non-utility wiring. To rate this publication poorly because HE mistook its purpose is grossly unfair to the many talented authors of this handbook.
National Electrical Safety Code Handbook-2007 by .. Boothe () This book sucks! It is not at all what I thought it was! This book is for linemen, who needs information about pole-line construction? Not Me! I need informatin on the National Electrical Code! A greater detail of the chapters in the book would have been very helpful. I oredered the National Electrical Code Handbook from the National Fire Protection Agency just to insure I will get what I truley need!

Product Description The Code addresses those construction, protection, and occupancy features necessary to minimize danger to life from fire, including smoke, fumes, or panic. 1.1.3 Egress Facilities. The Code establishes minimum criteria for the design of egress facilities so as to allow prompt escape of occupants from buildings or, where desirable, into safe areas within buildings. 1.1.4 Other Fire-Related Considerations. The Code addresses other considerations that are essential to life safety in recognition of the fact that life safety is more than a matter of egress. The Code also addresses protective features and systems, building services, operating features, maintenance activities, and other provisions in recognition of the fact that achieving an acceptable degree of life safety depends on additional safeguards to provide adequate egress time or protection for people exposed to fire. 1.1.5* Considerations Not Related to Fire. The Code also addresses other considerations that, while important in fire conditions, provide an ongoing benefit in other conditions of use, including non-fire emergencies. 1.1.6 Customer reviews What can I say? It's a building code. by .. An Architect () Not an easy read and often information is scattered about in such a way as to obfuscate what you need to know. But it doesn't matter what I think because we're all stuck with these codes. They get bigger and more complicated with every edition.

Product Description The National Electrical Code® is the most widely recognized and accepted electrical standard in the world. Every three years the NEC® is updated to reflect the newest installation practices utilized by the electrical industry, bringing about hundreds of changes to the code. Significant Changes to the NEC® – 2008 Edition aims to identify and analyze those changes in a way that cuts through the maze of jargon to hone in on key updates that will affect electrical installations. For maximum comprehension, the book is arranged to follow the general layout of the NEC®. Each change is also accompanied by an illustration, as well as background information and a discussion of the significance of the change. As the most comprehensive code change book on the market, this resource will prove invaluable to electricians, electrical contractors, electrical inspectors, electrical engineers, and anyone who needs to understand the most important updates in the NEC® 2008. Customer reviews Review of SC's to the NEC 2008 by .. Deborah A. Schouten (San Jose, CA USA) Its a good book, well researched, but I wish it included every change that happened, not just the most photogenic. They whould have listed the changes that were not included in the book.
clear instructions and diagrams by .. W Boudville (Terra, Sol 3) With the electrical wiring around homes and commercial buildings, I'd always wondered about the governing standards used by electricians. How safely did they really do things? So it's reassuring to read this update of the US electrical code. The diagrams are well done, in colour. The clarity of the schematics and of colour photos of equipment like fixtures is commendable. Clearly, the authors are aware that the background of readers will vary widely. Some might be journeyman electricians, who will need clear instructions and diagrams.
The text also demonstrates that the NEC codes are quite thorough. And, as the narrative makes clear, never complete. Every year, revisions are made. While this might not be the computer field, driven by endemic change and obsolescence, here too, innovation happens.

Product Description Providing a unique approach to learning the Code, the Illustrated Guide to the NEC uses highly detailed, technically accurate illustrations and visuals to break down and simplify the expanding volume and complexity of the 2008 National Electrical Code. By translating the sometimes vague, complicated wording of the Code into straightforward illustrations and clear explanations, this book provides a resource that will facilitate comprehension and application of Code requirements for beginning and master electricians alike. Material is organized logically, covering fundamental provisions first, and then grouping code requirements by the type of occupancy, beginning with one-family dwellings, and progressing on to multi-family, commercial locations, and special occupancies. This organization is not only logical but also reflects how information is needed when working in the electrical industry, better preparing readers for the real world. Its comprehensive coverage, innovative learning approach, and industry-based organization make this an indispensable supplement to the NEC, whether users need information on a specific area, or need to learn the Code from cover to cover. Customer reviews Very informative, great illustrations by .. Ted Rowe (Sparks, NV) This book is very well written. It makes understanding the world of home and commercial wiring much easier to comprehend. I'm glad I chose this book!

Product Description Despite new and sophisticated innovations, port work is still considered an occupation with very high accident rates. Every port, in light of its specific circumstances, needs to develop working practices that safeguard the safety and health of portworkers. This essential code of practice provides valuable advice and assistance to all those charged with the management, operation, maintenance and development of ports and their safety. Offering many detailed technical illustrations and examples of good practice, the provisions of this code cover all aspects of port work where goods or passengers are loaded or unloaded to or from ships, including work incidental to such loading and unloading activities in the port area. It is not limited to international trade but applies equally to domestic operations, including those on inland waterways. While the code looks to the future by including a methodology for considering innovations, it retains advice on older conventional methods as well. New topics, which were not included in the previous publications, are: traffic and vehicular movements of all types; activities on shore and on ship; amended levels of lighting provision; personal protective equipment; ergonomics; provisions for disabled persons; and the specific handling of certain cargoes, for example logs, scrap metal and dangerous goods.
