Note that Enter the Sandman is not on this CD or book, as is described on the Amazon product description. Otherwise the book is typical Hal Leonard quality, which is pretty doggone good, note for note transcription.
Instead they have sub'd in 'When you were young' by The Killers.
Comes with Amazing Slow Downer for OSX and Windows, at least a version tied to the CD... worth buying the full up ASD for $39, since the slow down is of higher audio quality and you can open any MP3s from the hard disk.
For $10 this book is a great value.

Playing rockband inspired me to learn how to play the electric bass, so now Harmonix has release the sheet music for vocals and bass for 25 of the orignial Rockband songs. Perfect!
For the bass, every note is written on both a musical staff and with tabulature. In addition, the very last page of the book is an excellent one page cheat-sheet of musical notation.
My only regret? Why only 25 songs and not every song on the disc???

I absolutely loved those on writing songs, but I think
my favorite ones would have to be on self-defense because, let's face it - no matter who you are or where you live, you're most likely going to need to know some of that at least once in your life.
So, whether you're in a band, interested in starting one, a genius at playing guitar, or musically challenged, I recommend picking up this book, even if it is only for the self-defense tips!

A very informative book!! It actually gives a lot of useful information, about nearly everything you can thing of!
BUT: It is as the title says: rock camps for GIRLS...not so much young women. The way it's illustrated is definitely geared towards a younger audience, just to let you know.
I would definitely recommend this to any girl who wants to learn how to play :D

I saw the film "Girls Rock!" in March and was blown away by the Rock 'n' Roll Camp for Girls. Their organization gives girls the tools they need to play an instrument, start a band and play/record music. The book is written by the crew that puts on the original Camp, so their 7 years of experience is palpable. The Camp and book are much more than a rock star fantasy camp, it is a place where girls can build confidence, self-esteem and discover a means of self-expression.
The book, like the camp, addresses ideas and situations that impart real-world knowledge for the girls that other books would ignore altogether. It discusses how to promote a band, book gigs and even set-up a mic & PA system. All things that an independent band must do to get by. The "hidden" lesson here is how to be self-reliant and promote oneself, which is something these girls will need in their lives, be they musicians, doctors or a stay-at-home moms.
The camp has been so successful that it has spawned 12 other camps throughout the US and some foreign countries. Some camps also hold sessions for women, called Ladies Rock Camp. Evidently the need is there and the camps (which are always sold out) are fulfilling it. This book is a great resource for those who can't attend a camp, want to hold their own camp (what a fun summer activity!) or those who are curious about music and need a helping hand.
I HIGHLY recommend this book for girls ages 7-18 (and even ladies, too!).

I was happy to see this priced lower than many of the game guides I've bought before, but I was still disappointed in the content.
There is no more instrument-specific information here than in the little pamphlet that comes in the game package.
Things it does not answer but should have: what the blue background means when playing bass (I've since determined it means you've exceeded the 4x multiplier that Lead is limited to, and you're in a "bass groove"), what the difference between "static" and "scrolling" for voice is, exactly how voice difficulty changes (does it get stricter? use speech recognition? etc.)
Instead, it regurgitates the game pamphlet, provides hints straight out of the in-game tutorials, then pads out the majority of the pages with useless song-by-song information. The "history" of the song is basic copyright dates and authors, no trivia or actual history of the songs, followed by someone's opinion of how hard they found it at medium and hard (nothing for easy or expert) where my mileage definitely differed. What appears to be little bits of trivia scattered around the page is straight out of the game load screens.
This really ends up being worthless, which is a shame. The excellent game deserves so much more.

I bought this book mainly for advice (or tricks) about how to play (guitar or drums) and sing better. Very little advice is given about actually playing the instruments and singing and what advice they do give is already contained on the tutorials section of the video game. The advice on setting up to the drums was fair information. Besides that, the Prima guide did not help me to improve my play.
They also suggest starting at medium skill level. Not everyone is a video game junkie or Neil Peart, Frank Zappa or Sting. Starting at medium would put some of my friends off the game for good! (especially drums) Yet the medium skill level is mainly ignored and they talk mostly about hard and expert. It is not an explanation on how to get to Hard or Expert or even what to do once you're there. Prima suggests practice and gives advice at what sections of the particular songs to practice to be able to get through the song. Imagine that... practice! Who would have guessed?
I guess I can re-evaluate the book to see if it is more useful once I am attempting to play at the hard level (right now, I'm challenged on medium). However, I doubt it will be used for little more than a casual reference to the songs. Save your money and do the Rock Band tutorials that come with the game.
I am 0 for 2 with Prima guides. The other was Madden 08. I have a PS3 and I found that many items in the book are not available to me. Also, they switch back and forth from platforms as the PS3 is often ignored.

Those of us who grew up in the 70s, and continue to enjoy rock acts today, often wonder to ourselves about how our favorite bands came up with their names. Author Greg Metzer gives us quick factual summaries and inserts some of his own humor at the same time. Rock Band Name Origins is an entertaining and easy read. It also makes a fun reference book for your library. Buy it! Read it!

The book is organized in a series of short chapters which allows the reader to either quickly look up a band/artist for reference, or jump around to the stories that pique your interest.
But it's also fun just to sit down and read through the entire compilation, as any true music fan will learn a lot in the process.
The write-ups are certainly interesting, often entertaining and very well researched. You can tell the author really knows -- and has a passion for -- rock and popular music history.
It's also well-written and varied enough in it's delivery that each chapter seems fresh.
Highly recommended for any music fan.
