Customer reviews Poor on Service Entrance by .. James Bond (Newport Beach, CA) This appears to be a text book and it is cumbersome, poorly organized, and full of needless detail on strange stuff. I only looked at it for the service entrance and it is very weak to the point that after spending about 5 minutes with it that I took it back. There was simply not sufficient detail on the service entrance topic to be useful. I have looked at the Ray Caufield book and it is better, but it seems dated to me and done by an old timer that may not really have the technical details down. I'm still looking for a good residential wiring book.
ELECTRICAL WIRING RESIDENTIAL by .. Edwin Juliao () IT IS A GOOD BOOK FOR ELECTRICAL DESIGN BASED ON 2008 NATIONAL ELECTRIC CODE
Only book you'll need by .. Ivan Dubois (NJ United States) I had a carpenter frame a second story addition to my house, I had decided to do all electrical work myself...and have it inspected. The space had 2 bedrooms, bathroom and a hallway. I had a bunch of books including this one. I must say that each time I was looking for an answer, I found it in this book, from calculation of box volume required for a given amount of wires, to submitting my plan drawings to the town for permit. If you're doing some serious work or simple work and you don't want to be shuffling between 5 books, just get this one. I should add that I passed the inspections (rough and finished work) on the first time.
only if you want to pass the exam by .. Home Jay Simpson (Springfield) unless you are trying to pass the NEC exam, this book will be way over your head.
It not only has tons of equations (which are useless to the average homewoner), but it has practice exams at the end of each chapter.
don't buy it if you just want to remodel your home. It's great for the exam.....i suppose.
i think the title should be clear that this book is not for the average homewoner.
An Amazing Book! by .. Brian M. (Wyoming, MI) I have the Black & Decker Complete Guide to Home Wiring but it was published in 2002. I saw the new third edition was published in 2005. I like the Black & Decker Complete Guide Books because they have amazing illustrations. They educate you just enough for you to realize that you need a much better book. I wanted an extremely comprehensive book that included the new 2008 national electrical code. My search led me to this book.
This is a text book. A different reviewer wrote that this was not a reference book. I disagree. The purpose of a text book is to thoroughly educate a novice on a specific topic. This book is extremely informative. I purchased the paperback edition. This book is well worth the money. This is the book that you want to buy. Your search is over.

Practical Electrical Wiring: Residential, Farm, Commercial and Industrial: Based on the 2005 National Electrical Code by .. Maria Teresa Cambare (San Jose, California) Great condition as I expected based on the description prior to purchase. I will definitely recommend to others.
The Bible for Electricians and Aspiring Electricians by .. J. Harris (Chesapeake, VA) If your looking to get into the Electrician field or just need a steady reference guide, then this is the book for you. Residential, Commercial, Industrial...you name it. I've been a certified Electrician for 17 years and I still use this book as a quick reference manual to this day. Not overly complex but still gets down to the nitty gritty in details.
Definitely a must buy if you're interested in pursuing a career in this trade.
Too vague by .. D. low (long beach, ca) Some very good information , but very vague on a lot of subjects. It would be nice to have more pictures and details of subject matter I have yet to find a really good electrical book other that the NEC CODE BOOK
Great book for future electrician! by .. C. Taylor (Baghdad, Iraq [Oregon originally]) I bought this book while in Iraq to study before I get out of the army and try to get under an apprenticeship. This book has helped me learn a LOT about the trade of inside wireman and the basic fundamentals of electricity from fomulas to installation of panel boxes to wiring an entire house and to which lamps will give the best lighting effect in a room. I am really looking forward to learning more about the trade. So far I have read it once and am already half way thru for my second time around. I highly recommend this book however, what I have learned about electrical is only from this book so I do not have a comparison.

Product Description Part of the Residential Construction Academy series, Electrical Principles bridges the gap between theory books that include topics that electricians do not need to know (e.g., resonance and devices) and books for electricians that try to cover all the theory in one chapter. Instead, through the use of a lively writing style and frequent examples, Stephen Herman expands on the important topics that residential electricians need, so that students have time to fully grasp the concepts they’ll need on the job. This text focuses on the theory that a residential wireman needs and it includes important safety and OSHA information. Create a direct link between your education/training program and the residential construction industry! Training materials are now available for many of the residential crafts based on skill standards developed by the nation’s leading builders and educators. The result of a strategic partnership between the National Association of Home Builder’s Home Builders Institute and Delmar Learning, the Residential Construction Academy Series is the perfect way to teach essential workplace skills to people new to the building trades. Ideal for use in vocational programs, workforce development programs, professional associations, and trade unions, all materials are based on industry standards. The Residential Construction Academy also offers credentialing for programs using the skill standards and materials, along with a national registry of students who have successfully completed participating programs. The goal is a workforce that is skilled, knowledgeable, and able to meet the needs of the industry today and well into the future. Customer reviews Clearly organized, amazingly good diagrams by .. P. Gleeson (Los Angeles) Bravo! For the past 2 years I've been learning how to design and build my own house. In the process I've consumed a few dozen technical books on everything from AutoCAD to Plumbing. Few are really everything I'd hoped for. Some are too sketchy to be truly useful if you're serious about attaining journeyman proficiency; others are self-indulgently anecdotal, badly written, confusing or even confused. This book is the truly brilliant exception. The organization is amazingly clear--you always know where the information you're getting fits into the big picture, and there are abundant (and abundantly clear) color diagrams, letter-boxed critical points, highlights and reviews. And the language and tone are exactly right--never condescending or jokey and always concise and on point. This book is a model for technical writing. Many thanks Mr. Sorge!
Residential Wiring, 2E: Based On The 2005 National Electric Code (Residential Wiring) by .. O. Betancourt (toms river, new jersey) this book was requested by the vocational school I am attending. It is the best price I found, and it arrived before I expected it. thank you
Residential Wiring by .. Dave Anderson (Denver) This is a great textbook for the beginning and intermediate level electricians. The text stays detailed yet organized as you follow steps in the process of wiring a typical house. It is based on the 2002 NEC so everything is updated and to code. The study questions, and chapter end summaries are key features that will aid in the learning process. I believe this book is a great bridge from classroom study to on-the-job training. I will use this book and would highly recommend it to others.

Scott FS (Sacramento, CA United States) An up-to-date NEC book is essential if you don't have everything from the code memorized. This handy book covers all of the basics for residential wiring. Even if you have some general guides on wiring (and there are some good ones out there), and you are a weekend warrior, you really must have the code handy. (A hint...read it BEFORE you start the job! I've ripped out a few jobs after discovering my work didn't pass code.) This book is also helpful when the inspector drops by for a friendly visit. Point out in the book what you understood from the code. You'll have something more than your gut instinct to back you up on your job. My only quibble is the book only hits 90% of the code. There are some important details you're going to have to consult the big code book on every once in a while. Otherwise, an excellent tool to go along with the voltage tester. Highly Recommended.

Customer reviews Text Book in nature by .. DC Reviewer (Washington, DC) Was looking for more practical guidance and this book is really more of a text book.
Not concise nor comprehensive. by .. () Most of the material is presented in a haphazard way. It is a cut above the basic "Time Life" type books, but not by much. There are many details and references that are missing in this book. This is a $15 book, not a $50 book.

Lopez (Los Angeles, USA) It's a handy little book that includes the codes that are pertinent to residential electrical work. It's considerably less expensive than the big book, which includes everything for industrial, commercial, and even engineering requirements. In short, If your looking for code requirements for just residential electrical construction, this book is worth buying. Especially, if you don't want to get bogged-down with requirements you don't need to be concerned about.
Very informative. by .. Phillip K. Hamilton (arlington, WA USA 98223) It was very informative and directly relates to my current occupation. A bit vauge in some code discriptions. Shouldn't cost so much. I would purchase again if it were cheaper than $20.
