Customer reviews Decent material; better as supplement vs. main source by .. Stir-Crazy (Texas) I have just finished my Radiobiology & Protection class; and after a grueling semester, I have found that the Statkiewicz's book is disorganized and confusing. The author tends to hop around topics, for example: it says "see chapter 7 for more information", when you are trying to understand material from chapter 6. I was also using Radiologic Science for Technologists: Physics, Biology, and Protection (Radiologic Science for Technologists: Phys, Biol & Protectio) in another class, but Bushong's book also contains similiar and MUCH more organized and in-depth detailed pertinent information compartively. Bushong presented the same concepts in a more outlined format along with easy-to-read charts and tables. Some of Bushong's information does get into too much depth (no complaints there). After going through his book after Statkiewicz's, I felt like the material made a lot more sense. The only pro to using Statkiewicz is that she writes more indepth stories about the different radiation accidents.
No change in content by .. lett rr (orlando, fl) If I would have known my husband had this book before and I looked through it and not much changes since the last one. But it was required that we purchase this edition for school.
Workbook for Radiation Protection in Medical Radiography by .. Betty J. Rosensky () This workbook has helped me prepare for my exam's and improve my scores.
Excellent book, great reference by .. rad tech (Colorado) I found this book to be essential for all the info I needed for radiation protection. It's not only well-written but quite complete. It also served as a wonderful reference for studying for the ARRT exam. Another great reference for the ARRT exam, is:
*The Ultimate Study Guide for the Registry Examination in Radiography: Key Review Questions and Answers by Patrick Leonardi, Volume 1, 2 and 3*
This book had great questions that were a definite help for passing the ARRT exam. You can't go wrong with *Radiation Protection in Medical Radiography* and with Leonardi's book.
Worst written and most confusing text book ever by .. () I find this book very confusing, I am a student starting my 2nd year of radiology and this is the first time this book has been used by my college, and hopefully in the future they will find a better book. One of my assignments for class is to define all the key terms at the beginning of each chapter, and they are a joke. Starting in chapter 3 there are 2 key terms Dose equivalent and Equivalent dose you look up the definition for dose equivalent and after reading and defining the term it says, dose equivalent is now called equivalent dose. I think this is very confusing. I have seen several things like this already in this book and have only made it to chapter 3, I will be crazy by the time I get through this book and feel for anyone else that has to use this book.

Product Description Strategies that are effective and legal for putting one’s assets safely out of reach In today’s increasingly litigious world, the shielding of assets has become a prominent issue for financial planners, business owners, and high-net-worth individuals. Asset Protection details methods that are both legally and morally legitimate for protecting one’s assets from creditors, lawsuits, and scams. Bringing economic common sense and legitimacy to an area that is drowning in gimmickry, two of today’s top lawyers examine the fundamental issues in this growing area, avoiding dense legalese to make the book accessible to anyone. Asset Protection covers everything readers want to know about: - Establishing an effective asset protection program
- Today’s most popular, established strategies
- Newer strategies that are still being resolved by the courts
Customer reviews Learning how to protect assets by .. Douglas J. Lee (Broken Arrow, OK United States) This book does an excellent job of introducing the concept of asset protection and includes strategies to protect assets. A number of protection strategies are analyzed to show the pros and cons of each strategy. Examples and diagrams are shown to help communicate protection concepts. Past court cases for some of the protection asset strategies are discussed to show the pros and cons of the particular strategy. I would highly recommend this book to learn about how trusts, corporate entities, and other strategies can work to help the reader make a decision to protect their assets.
It was OK... by .. D. C. Lewis (Elmira, NY) Being in the financial services I am always looking for new and exciting books in my field...sadly, this is not one of them. The book was dry and made for a long read.
The upside is that the authors seem to know what they are talking about and are able to explain the ideas behind a variety of different asset protection strategies.
The authors also explain the benefits and drawbacks of each asset protection strategy, though they do not go into very much detail on some of their ideas.
One of the reasons is probably because at the end of the book, they provide their website as a reference. I don't have a problem with that, but it would have been nice if they had been able to make the information more interesting so that you didn't feel like you had to go to their website to "get the good stuff".
repetitive at times but overall quite informative by .. C. Chang () covers quite a bit of ground. some of it over and over again.
but it is a good starting point for almost all possibilities, good and bad for those looking for money management.
Best Book on the Subject by .. Soccer Mom () I've read several books on this subject and this one was by far the best. Many of the other books in the field have some rather dubious tactics listed, but this book focuses on reasonable steps people can take to protect their asstes that are legal and likely to stand up in court. I found this book to be a well organized, well written professional text in a field filled with a lot of books hawking expensive and legally questionable scams and schemes.
OUTSTANDING TREATISE!!!! by .. Tesla (La Jolla, CA USA) BUY IT. READ IT. THEN READ IT AGAIN. AND AGAIN. EACH TIME YOU READ IT YOU WILL PICK UP YET ANOTHER USEFUL NUGGET OF INFORMATION. THE UNIQUE THING ABOUT THIS 'BIBLE' IS THAT IT IS USEFUL FOR THOSE WISHING TO PROTECT ASSETS FROM FUTURE CREDITORS, AND JUST AS USEFUL FOR THOSE ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE FENCE, TRYING TO SEIZE ASSETS AS WELL. A VERY POWERFUL, DETAILED AND GENEROUS BOOK. NOT YOUR TYPICAL A/P BOOK. THE 'RIGHT' WAY TO SAFELY PROTECT YOUR ASSETS.

Customer reviews Very Good, But Has Outdated Information by .. S. Peek (Rocky Mountains, USA) Although this is book contains lots of excellent material, it is also very outdated (written circa 1983).
It covers information on various issues related to self defense including: doors, windows, dogs, various types of weapons (including makeshift), safes, locks, physical techniques, concealed carry of handguns, and much more.
The various items covered range from preparation to prevent violent attacks, how to respond during one, and what to expect afterwards including PTSD and legal issues.
Some of the things that are outdated include references to dial phones, no mention of cell phones, and no commentary on currently popular weapons including Glocks, Sig Sauers, etc.
Even with its shortcomings, this is still a very worthwhile book. I hope that the author will work on revising it and putting out an updated edition.
The Truth About Self Protection by .. bigguy25 (Wappingers Falls, NY) This book hasn't updated in a few years, the internet isn't mentioned in it.
I think that a lot of the book could be condensed into fewer pages. All and all for the price, it is a bargain. A lot of useful information.
Very Comprehensive Overview by .. Lodge2 (Texas) The most comprehensive overview of "self-protection" available. Sections are broken out in a very logical arrangement; understanding the threat, passive safety measures, active measures and what to do after an incident. Not only does Ayoob cover those things you should do (buy good locks) but he also covers those things you should not do (booby traps). He explains the reasons behind his recommendations so you understand the thought process.
As many have said, there is a large amount of dated information in this book. The chapter on telephones is woefully inadequate. Rather quaint to read about somebody recommending touch tone phones because they are the newest advance in technology. The chapters on dogs are very interesting, especially since I am not a "pet person". I'd love to see this section updated to include the proliferation of "pit bulls" in society. It's been a long time since I have seen anyone with a Doberman.
A worthwhile addition to you library. It helps the reader expand their thought process to consider virtually everything in their environment and how it can increase or decrease their level of personal security.
DATED BUT WORTH READING. by .. BIG AL (Baton Rouge, LA.) Ayoob explores all facets of self protection and defense. The technical parts of the book are very dated and in need of revision (not Ayoob's fault, things change). Alarm systems, cell phones, handgun design & ammo, locking devices, car alarms, etc. are all far more advanced than in the early 80's when this book was written. Concealed weapon carry laws for law abiding citizens are almost universal now unlike in the 80's (except on the left coast and other bastions of liberal government mistrust of self reliance). The theory parts are still very valid and worth reading. The tactics of avoiding confrontation and the legal and psychological effects of engaging in self defense are mandatory reading. The book is worth buying solely for the theory portions. Ayoob needs to update the book and reissue the book. I would buy the updated version.
Informative if a bit far-out in places by .. Beth Gabor (New York, NY, USA) Some of the advice in this book is a bit far-out. There's a chapter on survivalism in the event of cataclysmic event (did you know you should have a warren of rabbits on hand to breed food for yourself? Never mind that your rabbits will be eating their own weight in grain) and another chapter on maneuvers a would-be victim can supposedly perform in their car to escape danger (if the assailant is kind enough to stand directly in front of your car while you have the ignition on, you can run them over). That being said, some sections like the discussion of window and door locks and structurally-sound designs for the house to resist intruders are really excellent if you're as much of a home security buff as I am. The author goes into great detail about the best types of locks and security systems to buy to keep one's home both safe from potential intruders and yet escapable in case of fire or other emergency. The section on the pros and cons of various types of handguns, probably what makes this book most famous, is also very informative.

 Author : Thom Hartmann Number of Pages : 360 Publisher : Rodale Books List Price : $16.95 Amazon Price : $7.92 Used Price : $6.78 |
Product Description Unequal Protection: The Rise of Corporate Dominance and the Theft of Human RightsWas the Boston Tea Party the first WTO-style protest against transnational corporations? Did Supreme Court sell out America's citizens in the nineteenth century, with consequences lasting to this day? Is there a way for American citizens to recover democracy of, by, and for the people? Thom Hartmann takes on these most difficult questions and tells a startling story that will forever change your understanding of American history. He begins by uncovering an original eyewitness account of the Boston Tea Party and demonstrates that it was provoked not by "taxation without representation" as is commonly suggested but by the specific actions of the East India Company, which represented the commericial interests of the British elite. Hartmann then describes the history of the Fourteenth Amendment--created at the end of the Civil War to grant basic rights to freed slaves--and how it has been used by lawyers representing corporate interests to extend additional rights to businesses far more frequently than to freed slaves. Prior to 1886, corporations were referred to in U.S. law as "artificial persons." but in 1886, after a series of cases brought by lawyers representing the expanding railroad interests, the Supreme Court ruled that corporations were "persons" and entitled to the same rights granted to people under the Bill of Rights. Since this ruling, America has lost the legal structures that allowed for people to control corporate behavior. As a result, the largest transnational corporations fill a role today that has historically been filled by kings. They control most of the world's wealth and exert power over the lives of most of the world's citizens. Their CEOs are unapproachable and live lives of nearly unimaginable wealth and luxury. They've become the rudder that steers the ship of much human experience, and they're steering it by their prime value--growth and profit and any expense--a value that has become destructive for life on Earth. This new feudalism was not what our Founders--Federalists and Democratic Republicans alike--envisioned for America. It's time for "we, the people" to take back our lives. Hartmann proposes specific legal remedies that could truly save the world from political, economic, and ecological disaster. Customer reviews Hartmann Is Brillant by .. Joseph M. Kraher (Bensalem,PA) Thom Hartmann is brillant, and every time I hear or read his books he provides me with new information that I would have never gotten anywhere else. He's on Sirius Radio every day, and should be listened to if you want the truth about politics in America
EXELLENT - Get this one for your collection by .. Travellini () Thom Hartmann has provided a synthesis of history, economics, politics and social issues in a way that is grounded, easy to read, and above all, provides a secure understanding of the path this country has taken to surrendering democracy.
I must emphasize how nicely this information and analysis sticks to your brain, and yet is a comprehensive work that does not dumb down to the reader.
Great Christmas gift for your conservative friends who don't even know why they are conservative!!!!
I recommend "Unequil Protection" as high school reqd reading by .. jeraldine Wilson (Los Angeles) Thom starts with the East India Company of the 1500's and its "corporate" charter, and walks you through to today. Then he presents you with several sources and methods or starting a grass-roots movement to change the "Santa Clara" decision, which gave corporations personhood...excellent, excellent.
Unequal Protection by .. R. Marcus (Dedham, MA United States) As is the case with all Thom Hartmann's books, a must read for all liberals.
Value Base Economy by .. Dr. Cebert McFarlane (USA and UK) Hartmann calls for a values based USA and less emphasis on big business in this book.He sets out to show how the way things are currently are inimical to economic growth of the ordinary folks of the USA. A must read.

CHOLESTEROL PROTECTION FOR LIFE by .. June Patricia () I have not yet read all of the pages, but so far what I have read was well worth the money. It is informative, interesting and life changing. I have already referred to the book for recipes and information on a dietary program to improve my life. This book makes sense!
Questionable advice. by .. J. Dinardo (New York) First, I should say that I believe that his diet is vastly superior to the standard american diet. However I think that both "The Mcdougall Program for a Healthy Heart" by John Mcdougall,MD and "Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease" by Caldwell Esselstyn are both much better books for a number of reasons.
Fuhrman uses the native population of rural China where heart disease is rare to justify his program. However, he then recommends that you limit consumption of starches such as rice even though rice is the primary component in rural chinese diet. While Dr Mcdougal's program uses the same justification citing not only rural china(rice),but parts of mexico(corn), eastern Europe(potatoes), New Guinea(yams),etc, he recommends that you base your diet on these foods. Following Mcdougalls plan, my weight dropped to 155lbs and on my 1st blood test since starting this plan my cholesterol dropped to 167 from its typical 220-250 range after only a few weeks. A Whole grain based diet is both more satisfying and a lot less expensive than a vegetable based diet unless you are growing it yourself.
Dr. Fuhrman also recommends and sells policosanol. When I first found out that I had high cholesterol, I tried policosanol. After 6 months, my cholesterol went up 20 points. To the best of my knowledge, no studies outside of the cuban studies (funded by a company with a financial stake) have replicated the Cuban findings. If you cannot get your cholesterol low enough with diet and exercise and you do not want to take statins, then you should read "Reverse Heart Disease Now" by Stephen Sinatra,md. for advice on supplements.
I think that any low fat vegan diet (including Dr. Furhmans) will result in weight loss, low cholesterol and protection from heart disease. This book conveys that message far less convincingly than the books I cited above.

Customer reviews Good flow but many mistakes by .. S. Ferenc (Michigan) I just finished a college course in Radiologic Physics using this book. Each chapter's information and formulas build upon the previous chapter, and I found the flow of information easy to follow. The examples problems were helpful (sometimes) to make the author's point. But, thats where the problem lies with this book. The example problems had too many mathmatical mistakes or misprints. In one chapter the author kept switching the variable "L" with "1" within the same problem. Most other problems were either missing steps or the math was just wrong. I would spend twenty minutes on an example trying to figure out how they got an answer and finally would either just move on or come up with my own answer and verify it with the instructor the next class. For a book in its 9th Ed., someone should have caught these mistakes long ago. Each chapter had at least two, to as many as six mistakes. While there is good information in this book and great diagrams and charts as to how X-rays are produced, example problems make this book average instead of good. (Definitely buy the workbook if you purchase this book).

Product Description Forest health is influenced by both natural disturbance agents and human activities, such as fire suppression, introduction of alien pests, and air pollution. An understanding of both influences is essential in creating a forest management plan, regardless of whether its objective is timber production, wildlife conservation, or wilderness management. Modern forest managers have thus adopted an integrative approach, embracing the concept of ecosystem management. Forest Health and Protection is the first book that integrates fire, wind, insects, and diseases as well as their interactions. Its comprehensive approach focuses on technical issues related to forest protection, including ecology, forest health, and ecosystem management. Useful examples from the United States, Canada, and other countries illustrate principles and problems essential to understanding these issues. Customer reviews A nice primer by .. Christopher Keyes (Arcata, CA) This is a softcover reissue of a hardcover text put out previously by McGraw Hill. The content is unchanged, but students will be happy that it's about half the price of the original. It appears tightly bound, durable. The paper is thicker and coarser and so the photos have lost some detail, mostly more contrast and darker. Otherwise I'm very pleased with it. I've been using the previous edition for the past four years as the text for my Forest Protection class at Humboldt State University and I find it's a great overview of wildland fire, forest entomology, and forest pathology. The section on animal damage is deficient, extremely small, and requires supplemental material. Otherwise it's a great desktop reference, good coverage of the material by knowledgable authors, and you cannot beat the value.
Excellent book by .. Angelica Aguilar (VALDIVIA, CHILE) Forest Health and Protection is an excellent book which include an actual vision the three aspects very important in forest ecosystems. It is a contribution in the forest protection.

Product Description A tax-smart guide to keeping more of the wealth you build Three obstacles to wealth-lawsuits, income taxes, and estate taxes-can and will destroy the financial achievements of those who fail to properly safeguard their assets. In this book, attorney and tax strategist J.J. Childers lays out a plan for combating these forces so that anyone willing to learn and apply the secrets of the wealthy can do so in a smart, simple, and effective way. J.J. Childers (Little Rock, AR) is a licensed attorney specializing in wealth structures that reduce taxes and shield assets. He speaks on these topics to thousands of individuals, investors, and small business owners each year. His unique ability to explain complicated strategies in simple terms has made him one of the nation's most sought-after speakers and practitioners on asset-protecting legal structures. Customer reviews A solid introduction to the topic of protecting your assets from taxes and lawsuits by .. Craig Matteson (Ann Arbor, MI) The only thing The Donald supplies to this book is his powerful brand and two generic paragraphs for all this books in this series. There really is no thoughtful forward or anything to do with his insights. That being said, this is a pretty good beginners guide to the whys, whats, and hows of protecting your assets from the various income taxes, business taxes, estate taxes (the death tax), and lawsuits.
The author, J. J. Childers, is an attorney but writes clearly and simply enough for regular folks. The book's 17 chapters are presented in five parts. Part I covers the problem of excessive spending and a too passive approach to paying taxes. You can't build wealth that way. Childers shows you some basic principles on understanding the tax code and ways to use exemptions and deductions to keep more of your money. He also talks to you about the power of having your own business and the right structures to use to manage the risks involved.
Part II covers protecting yourself from lawsuits and carefully explains why this matters to you and matters more and more as your wealth grows. He presents you with some basic principles of using corporations to protect your assets and using multiple entities to match risk and assets rather than leaving all your assets in one pot vulnerable to a single catastrophic suit. Part III cover estates and death taxes. He introduces you to trusts and why they are essential to you and why a will simply does not provide you any protection from probate. Part IV shows you how to think like the wealth. Childers calls this the Mogul Mindset. He also takes you through the process of creating an asset protection team and what professional expertise you simply must have. As the author says, you may think you don't have enough wealth to worry about these things, but when you start adding it up, you can get surprised in a hurry. Don't let anyone simply take it from you because you failed to act.
Part V provides you with various resources such as a list of common deductions, which business structures provide various kinds of protection, a state by state guide to which assets you can protect during bankruptcy and a glossary of business and legal terms.
As with any 101 basic course, this is introductory and you will need to study more and dig deeper to master the topics in this field. But this can certainly get you started in the right direction.

Very well written and sound advice by .. Terry Smith (Little Rock, AR USA) This is an extremely informative and well-written book. Building wealth is vitally dependent on legally reducing your taxes by forming companies and properly structuring your income between earned income and passive income. The author covers the various forms of company entities such as general and limited partnerships, S Corps, C Corps, and LLCs. I've read several books about corporate entities and this is the first one I've found with practical, real-world examples that explain why an S Corp is better in one situation, while a C Corp is better in another, and an LLC is better in other circumstances. I came away believing (rightly or wrongly!) that I actually understand the differences now. The author then builds on that and explain how you can use multiple entities of different types to create a solid asset protection plan. He gives an excellent example of how a actively traded investment account can be structured as a limited partnership (with brokerage accounts held inside it) and whose general partner is a corporation. I've noticed this same structure when reading annual reports over the years, and now I understand why this structure reduces liability and has very significant tax advantages.
There is much more than what I've covered here. I highlighted text on almost every page in the book. My highlighting ratio is the predominant factor of how high I will rate a book. I will continue to pull this book off the shelf and refer back to it.
Learn just how much you don't know by .. Jim Davis () I was really taken by just how vulnerable many of us are to attacks by lawsuits and other events. Asset Protection showed me a world that I never knew existed a world where greedy lawyers (who should be disbarred in my opinion) sue for a living. Actually targeting companies and individuals not because they did something wrong but simply because their assets were easy to get at. Once that target is found then an "offense" is "created".
A lot of the concepts I have heard of before but this book broke them down and made them simple to understand. I have already begun to shape my assets in line with the models in this book by working with my Lawyer and my Accountant both of whom have since bought a copy of this book and have begun to use it to discuss options with their clients. The list of missed tax deductions alone is worth a hundred times the cost of this book and I can not recommend it highly enough.
So much more than I expected! by .. Velvet Glove () I know a little about business entities since I own a small business. I was worried that this book would either be over my head, or too basic. I found that it did a fantastic job of covering the basics without seeming to talk down to me. I also got some great ideas and strategies to really increase my protection and dramatically cut my taxes. JJ Childers manages to make complex strategies digestible for those not versed in legal jargon, yet doesn't talk down to anyone with familiarity in the areas he covers. Since studying JJ's strategies, I find I can understand and speak with my CPA and attorney with more confidence and comprehension. I have also found that I can make better tax and legal decisions with my new knowledge and my tax and legal advisors were impressed with my understanding of the topics of asset protection, estate planning and tax reduction. Thanks, Mr. Childers!
Everyone should read! by .. Sandra Palaza (Boston, MA USA) Asset Protection 101 is a book that everyone should read. We all know about corporations, LLC's, Revocable Living Trusts etc and we all know about law suits and being sued - but this book puts it altogether in an easy to read format that anyone can understand. If you want to save money on your taxes, if you want to keep from losing everything in a lawsuit, if you want to be able to pass on your estate to your family, without probate and with the least amount of taxes - then Asset Protection 101 is a "must reading" for everyone.

Especially at the beginning of the school semesters, I would hope that you would try extra hard to get textbooks out ASAP as teachers assign reading and writing assignments from the first day of class. Unfortunately, we don't find out what book is needed till the first day of class either!!!
