How will Christians discern truth from falsehood as the end times approach? According to Scripture, supernatural signs and wonders will multiply as we approach the end times. God isn t the only one with a plan, however Satan is plotting a scheme to deceive with supernatural signs and wonders of his own. When the antichrist comes, mankind will be forced to choose between him and God false church versus true church, unholy spirits
versus the Holy Spirit.

In Protection from Deception, renowned Bible scholar Derek Prince puts Christians on their guard against deception, equipping them to:
Distinguish between the Holy Spirit and counterfeit holy spirits
More fully understand God s bride, the true church
Recognize and resist the rise of the antichrist
Test the source of supernatural signs and wonders
Know the Holy Spirit more intimately
Guard against the devil s deception

By resisting Satan s schemes and rejecting the false church, believers can beautify the true church and prepare for the day when this age shall cease and Christ will gather those who have remained faithful.

Derek Prince - truly a man for our time 5 by .. Sylvia Green (florida USA)
Derek Prince went to be with the Lord before the Lakeland debacle, but he did witness the TORONTO manifestations. He is clear, concise and BIBLICAL in his warnings regarding these end times onslaughts of Satan. This book is well worth reading in order to decipher the real from the counterfeit spirits that are infecting the body of Christ. He has had vast experience dealing in the realm of darkness and we would do well to hearken what he has to say. This is one book to keep for referring back to again and again.

Protection from Deception 5 by .. Mary Beth Johnson (Medford, OR USA)
This book is a must-read for the Body of Christ and anyone else interested in understanding this subject.

Good "Guide" 4 by .. Derek J. Jordan (Montgomery, Al)
This book has very good and solid points backed up by the word of God. Anyone that is curious to our spirtual armor and weapons should pick this up. This is not a guide to doing everything right, but only more of a 'side-manuel' explaining a few things that God has given us to defend and more importantly attack the devil..

We are not fighting against people.. we are not fighting against countries.. we are fighting against strongholds and walls in people's minds..

This is a battle not won with force.. but Love.. and in Love the Word of God, Prayer, Preaching, and Lifting one another up.

I recommend this book to anyone... but with anything of this .... "caliber" I recommend being well prayed up before starting.. because attacks will come.

A Foundational Must Read 5 by .. Tea Time (Northeastern USA)
In this scripturaly sound book, Derek Prince thoroughly explains Spiritual warfare and its facets by using and cross-referencing the Holy Bible. It is a "must have" in foundational basics and includes the Biblical references as well as quoting the verse(s). You can also read the verses from your own favorite version of the Bible. The book contains 18 short chapters that elaborates the two opposing kingdoms, the armor of God, and the weapons of spiritual warfare. This is an excellent resource for every Christian.

Put on the whole armor 5 by .. ()
Derek Prince retells us in a very concise manner that which Scripture says in that "we struggle not against flesh and blood but against...the spiritual forces of evil..." While giving a 10,000 ft overview of the devil and his fallen angels, he spends the majority of the 137 pages talking about the every day practical preparation a believer under goes to suit up with the whole armor of God. He encourages the believer once equipped to not remain defensive but take back ground in enemy occupied territory. He reminds us that the devil is content when the believer leaves him alone. But Derek challenges us to not put down our sword, the Word of God and our Testimony. Instead, we need an offensive strategy to methologically invade his territory reclaiming it piece by piece.

This is a very practical presentation for teen youth, young adults, and new believers. It is a reminder of the basics for the seasoned believer.

Excellent guide for a serious problem 5 by .. Jon (Salt Lake City, Utah, USA)
Most people don't think of the catastrophe that would ensue should a zombie outbreak get out of hand. We have been taught that the government will protect us. But when there is no government - either because they've been eaten by zombies, become zombies themselves, or fled from their posts - we must rely on ourselves to survive.

This book is all about surviving any type of zombie attack. It focuses heavily on preparation, as it should. But it also discusses tactics that can be used in zombie attacks, how to travel through zombie infested land, and so on.

There are a few very minor mistakes in the book. One is the time that it takes a human to die and reanimate after becoming infected. The actual time is somewhat quicker than stated in the book. However, this is a minor complaint, and the advice to stay away from any infected, or any infected corpse for that matter, should be heeded.

Your one stop guide to the upcoming zombie apocalypse 4 by .. Nathan Thelen (Grand Rapids, Michigan)
With the increase in human population and an increasingly ignorant populace, scientists have estimated a 6o% potential of a class 4 outbreak in the next fifty years. I was once a skeptic, figuring these the tales of wild conspiracy theorists. It wasn't until one of my friends went through his story of horror. In a class 3 outbreak in southern California he was forced to kill his own zombie parents. He never woke up without screaming for three months. I became a believer.

Neer mind the movies, following those leads is sure to get you killed. The handbook shows the ins and outs of every weapon, terrain, and bodily protection. You'll learn why the machete is so powerful, and scoped rifles are so essential to protection from zombies. Until there is a cure to the Solanum virus, remember than a bite means your fate is sealed as becoming one of the dead.

This book is a call to arms. We as a populace must stand out and protest the mass concealment of this ever present threat. When the time comes, we must all be ready to do battle ungainst the living dead. I just bagged my first walking dead in a walk in the upper paninsula, and if it wasn't for the machete I was carrying per the recommendation of this book I would have been a goner. This book saved my life, and it may save yours as well.

Zombie Maximus!!! 5 by .. Jay K. Din ()
Wow!!!!
Great book. Creepy reading esp when its cold and rainy outside.. Great Humor, Max Brooks didn't fall too far from his dad when the genes were being passed out...

What? No merit badges? 5 by .. Robert Burns (Somewhere in Texas)
It's been a few years since I read this book. I was writing my own novel at the time -- with zombies, of course -- and was considering exactly what kind of zombies should I have, and whether they should be the stumbling, idiot type or the rabid, fast type. (Eventually, I settled on a combination, slow, rabid types with variations, but enough about me.)

I thought it was rather an obscure little book. And for good reason at that time. It was shelved not in the sci-fi section of my local brick&mortar bookstore but in the comedy section. Not one to read the biographies of the likes of Mel Brooks, I passed it by for months. Then one day, some enterprising bookseller moved it up to eye level and I noticed it on my way to the john, where I started reading it.

The book has a couple of what are to me amazing characteristics. One, it is readable in the john, like People's magazine, or Hot Rod Mommas (cough, cough) but it's also good for an extended read, for instance in a doctor's waiting room where one has gone to see about the bite given you on the street by that nice looking drooling naked woman.

The book is also cross-generational. I not only enjoyed, but so did my 18-year old son. Most things I read, he turns his nose up and says something like "too derivative," by which he means he's played that video game before.

The twenty-some illustrator I work with has read it, and alerted me to Brooks World War Z. My girl friend, who doesn't read sci-fi, but does read comedy, has read it.

But what the book reminded me most of were my ill-fated days in Boy Scouts. My parents enrolled me, thinking all the activities would bring me out of my pathological day-dreaming. I rebelled after a few weeks, refusing to wear the uniform -- but I kept the Boy Scout handbook. I found all the applicable survival type instruction in the handbook much more interesting that the quasi-military types that infested the local church meeting hall every month. And I much preferred camping alone, where I could hear myself think and listen for strange things moving through the undergrowth.

The guide was a no-nonsense handbook to just what it claimed to be: surviving a zombie plague. There nothing about politics or socialiazation; just stay alive type wisdom. But the Boy Scout guide, had one weakness; It wasn't funny. There was no merit badge for drool humor.

Which gives the zombie survival guide a leg up on the Boy Scout field guide. This little exposition really does belong in both the comedy section (as perhaps I do) and in the sci-fi second too. As brick&mortar booksellers have mixed horror in with "fiction and literature" it should be shelved there too.

The only thing it's missing is a merit badges system for zombie killing. That and perhaps instructions on how to bake a potato in a coal pit. And as that derivative of my DNA, aka my son, never returned the book, I'm in the market for another copy.

The dead walk among us. This flashcard deck was created to provide private citizens – people with limited time and resources – with an emergency crash course in basic zombie survival techniques. Organized by theme, this deck includes commonsense advice that will be your first asset in a moment of panic:

Avoid dressing in chain mail, plate mail, or any other heavy body armor: Without the speed or agility to outrun your attackers, you’ll end up as little more than canned food.

Consider all factors when choosing a weapon: Once a chain saw runs out of fuel, it provides as much protection as a handheld stereo.

Know your enemy: Our greatest advantage over the undead is our ability to think. Use your head, and cut off theirs!

Absolutely useless.... 1 by .. Huet ()
First please forgive me for all the mistakes i can make since english is not my mother tongue. I have been very disapointed in this product since it is repeating stricly the same as the Zombie survival guide book. I am a great fan of Mr Max Brooks and i do think his book World war Z is one of best zombie books ever BUT this time, buying this card deck was a deep mistake it is redundant. You can buy just in case you didn't understand the book (too much pages ?) but if you enjoyed the book, save your money...for next book maybe

Great for bathroom reading 5 by .. Shawn Beatty (Appleton, Wisconsin United States)
I have the book and love it... so you don't really need this set of cards. However, this is great to keep in the bathroom for guests to look at. It's a nice bit-sized way to help others get prepared for the impeding zombie apocalypse.

Product Description

Everyone agrees that firms should obey the law. But beyond the law -- beyond compliance with regulations -- do firms have additional social responsibilities to commit resources voluntarily to environmental protection? How should we think about firms sacrificing profits in the social interest? May they do so within the scope of their fiduciary responsibilities to their shareholders? Is the practice sustainable, or will the competitive marketplace render such efforts and their impacts transient at best? Furthermore, is the practice, however well intended, an efficient use of social and economic resources? And do some firms already behave this way?
Until now, public discussion has generated more heat than light on both the normative and positive questions surrounding corporate social responsibility (CSR) in the environmental realm. In Environmental Protection and the Social Responsibility of Firms, some of the nation's leading scholars in law, economics, and business examine commonly accepted assumptions at the heart of current debates on CSR and provide a foundation for future research and policymaking.
Distinguished contributors to this book include Einer Elhauge and Mark Roe of Harvard Law School; John Donohue and Daniel Esty of Yale Law School; Paul Portney of Resources for the Future; Dennis Aigner of the University of California, Santa Barbara; Forest Reinhardt of Harvard Business School; David Vogel of the University of California, Berkeley; and Eric Orts of the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

Number of Pages : 464
Publisher : Dover Publications
List Price : $26.95

Product Description

This text presents practical rules and strategies for circuits designed to protect electronic systems from damage by transient overvoltages. Because many circuits operate from AC supply mains, protection of equipment operating from the mains is also discussed. The five-part treatment covers symptoms and threats, fundamental remedies, types of protective devices, applications of protective devices, and validation of protective measures. Specific topics include damage and upset, environmental threats, standard test waveforms, and properties of nonlinear transient protection devices, plus protective applications related to signal circuits, DC power supplies, and low-voltage AC mains. 1989 edition.

You will be up to speed on overvoltage protection in two weeks 5 by .. David S. Drinnan (Houston, TX USA)
I spent more than six months swimming through the internet, trying to find an exhaustive source that would give me textbook-like explanations of the overvoltage protection I needed for my project. After wading for so long, I bit the bullet and looked for a real textbook and bought this one.

Two weeks later, I knew everything I needed to know to finish my overvoltage protection design. A week after that, I had finished my design. All for ~$30. I'm bashing my head on my desk as I write for not getting this book sooner. This is a $150 value book being practically given away.

Dr. Standler follows a logical order for the overvoltage protection beginner. It begins with the source of overvoltages and how they end up propagating into your circuit (including a fun explanation of how nuclear weapons cause electromagnetic pulses!).

Standler then explains in detail all of the waveforms that are used to approximate the overvoltages. These include 8/20 us current waveform, 1.2/50 us voltage waveform, ring waveform, Electrical Fast Transient (EFT ), 10/1000 us, 10/700 us, and more. I remember seeing the 8/20 us nomenclature everywhere as I waded through the Internet, and having a foggy idea of what it was, but never getting a precise explanation of what it and other test waveforms were. For me, those chapters alone are worth the $150 value.

The book then continues from the approximate waveforms of overvoltages into exhaustive explanations of the protection devices used in electronic circuits. These include gas tubes, spark gaps, varistors of all kinds including MOVs, avalanche and Zener diodes, typical diodes and rectifiers, thyristors including SCRs and Triacs, the simple devices no one thinks to use - resistors, inductors, and capacitors, positive-temperature-coefficient resistors (PTC fuses), filters, and finally isolation devices such as isolation transformers, optical isolators, and fiber optics. Isolation devices is one of the places that this book is noticeably out-of-date, as it makes no mention of capacitive isolation devices such as the Texas Instruments ISO124 and DCP01 chips. However, the practical explanations of how to use isolation devices in your design are still valid and useful. Standler also has an in-depth discussion of the parasitic inductance of all of these devices (including the inadvertent transformer effect), how it can degrade the performance of the devices, and practical ways of reducing these effects.

Again, the in-depth explanations of all of the protective devices (that I kinda sorta maybe in a way knew about by using the Internet) and how to use them correctly, for me was worth the $150 value of this book. But then Standler takes the devices you just learned all about and applies them in ways that you need. There are about 100 pages of example circuits and explanations of how to apply the devices for several different applications, such as signal circuits, DC power supplies, and on the AC mains. Standler gives so many example design circuits that you are bound to find one that works for you exactly as presented. If not -- as it was in my case -- you can take several of the ideas from separate circuits in the book and combine them for the application you need. The amount of working designs that Standler presents here is astounding.

Finally, Standler finishes the book with methods to test the overvoltage protection of your design circuit, and safety measures while working in high-voltage environments.

You may be tempted to skip the first couple sections and go right to the applications section. While worth a look to really see how many different designs he presents, it's well worth it to read this book from beginning to end. There is such a wealth of information in every chapter and every section that I do not recommend skipping any of them. It's an easy read for anyone familiar with the basics of electronic design (i.e. diodes, resistors, capacitors, inductors, op amps, etc.), so I recommend doing yourself that favor and read it from cover to cover.

One last note: Don't be fooled by the low price of the book. Under its previous publisher it did cost somewhere around $150 like most textbooks do. However, since the previous publisher stopped publishing it, Dr. Standler and Dover Publishing have now started offering it at this low price. I've also tried another textbook, Overvoltage Protection of Low-Voltage Systems (Iee Power & Energy Series, 33), which cost ~$90 when I bought it, and it was absolutely useless for me. It had no explanations or practical circuit ideas like Standler presents here.

While it's always worth it to find as many sources as you can, this is quite simply the definitive source on overvoltage protection of electronic circuits. If you think you need it, buy it. You'll know what you need to know in two weeks flat.

For persective, I have a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering, graduated 2007.

Excellent design resource for transient suppression. 5 by .. Dave Lorusso (Austin, TX United States)
If you need to protect a circuit from overvoltages, this is the book.

The book is based on the author's vast experience with overvoltage protection. Research up to and including 1989 are incorporated into the book. Mr. Standler applies the results of many scientific papers on overvoltage to the real world.

Even though it was written in 1989, the physics are still valid and can be applied today.

Product Description

While researching Russia's historical efforts to protect nature, Douglas Weiner unearthed unexpected findings: a trail of documents that raised fundamental questions about the Soviet political system. These surprising documents attested to the unlikely survival of a critical-minded, scientist-led movement through the Stalin years and beyond. It appeared that, within scientific societies, alternative visions of land use, resource exploitation, habitat protection, and development were sustained and even publicly advocated. In sharp contrast to known Soviet practices, these scientific societies prided themselves on their traditions of free elections, foreign contacts, and a pre- revolutionary heritage.

Weiner's ambitious goal is no less than to explain the intricacies of environmental activism under Stalin and his successors. He portrays the activists not as do-or-die resisters to the system, nor as inoffensive do- gooders. Rather, they were individuals who opened the discursive space and carved out independent social and professional identities within a system that prescribed official models of behavior, ethics, norms, and identity for all. Written in a lively style, this absorbing story tells for the first time how organized participation in nature protection provided an arena for affirming and perpetuating self-generated social identities and preserving a counterculture whose legacy survives today.

Force of Nature: Environment as a Movement in Soviet Russia 4 by .. ()
A very needed contribution about a very important but little known part of modern Russia. From the druzhina movement to defeat of the "Project of the Century" that helped topple soviet dominance, the Russian love of the environment has served as a source of strength and political expression. A good antidote to the lingering cold war condescion still kicking that there is nothing of value in Russian society. Dense reading, however, but good. An important historical source.

Dense with detail and thought provoking 3 by .. B. Y. Clark (Athens, GA)
This book was extremely dense and full of detail. At times the authors overwhelmed me with names, dates, events, and abbreviations-all that being said I learned more about EPA from reading than anything else I have read.

The introduction provides you with a good foundation of the goings on prior to EPAs creation, and what spurred its creation. The sections on the Ozone Standard, RCRA, Superfund, Cancer Policy, and CAA are informative to say the least. It is in these five sections that I felt overwhelmed with details and names--that at times really seemed excessive, and not necessary to get the story/history through. Again, They also managed, despite the wordiness, to lay out what was going on, put it into context, and at the same time raises important questions.

Part III provides details on the Reagan, Bush I, and Clinton Administrations, although the Clinton section is weak at best (but that has more to do with when this book was written than anything else). I seems to present a very evenhanded look throughout at both Democrats and Republicans in the White House. Their style sold me on their credibility to tell is as it was.
