Customer reviews Comprehensive and Intelligent by .. Melodie Giaimo () I purchased this book a little over three years ago and I am starting to re-read it now. It has a strong medical leaning compared to other books that I have on the subject, but ultimately I found myself looking at this one often.
It is laid out in an order that makes sense to be able to find what you are looking for and the explainations are straight forward and provide the reader with a bit of credit as to being able to understand things.
A comprehensive guide as to things that arre occurring in your body, what is normal and things to be aware of. It helps alleviate some anxiety (I expcet less this time) and gives you things to keep in mind to make sure you are progressing properly. Of course if you think something is wrong make sure to get real life medical advice. Always better to be cautious.
A Great Asset! by .. M. Gulbas () I bought this book as soon as I found out I was pregnant. It is full of information about how the baby is growing along with what is going on in your body. I find it very detailed and informative, and eases alot of fears. It's not a 'picture-book' if that's what your looking for. I highly recommend it. It's my fav pregnancy book.
Terrible Pregnancy Book, Way Too Medical by .. Author of Healing Our Children & Cure Tooth Decay (San Jose, CA) I've read several other pregnancy books written by doctors. I could tolerate them, they had helpful tips, there was a human being on the other side writing the book. But this is soo bad, soo medical, that if you can read even ten pages of this book you deserve an award. What is in this book that will actually make you healthy? It's called healthy pregnancy, what exactly are the health tips gained here?
I suppose if you completely buy into the medicalized way of birth, with nearly a 30% cesearan rate, 250,000 birth defects per year, of which about half are serious, 500,000 miscarriages and nearly 25,000 early infant deaths, then, please, get this book. You cannot get more filled with medical terminology and theories to confuse you and make you feel like you don't know anything, then is in this book.
The text is extremely dry, the advice is not clear, and it is all about talking about problems without real solutions.
It recommends the FLU shot while pregnant, which is completely stupid since it is loaded with mercury, (remember, no mercury during pregnancy??) duh, but still, it recommends that. The book makes it seem as if medical surgery and procedures is the only way to go. The Questions and Answers section may be it's only redeeming quality.
Review is by Ramiel Nagel author of Healing Our Children: Because Your New Baby Matters! Sacred Wisdom for Preconception, Pregnancy, Birth and Parenting (ages 0-6).
Great book - clinical information but approachable by .. Marcia (Santa Clara, CA) During my first pregnancy, I owned two books: "the Mayo Clinic Guide to a Healthy Pregnancy" and "What to Expect When You're Expecting." Both are very good books, but over time I came to appreciate this one more. The explanations are thorough, and have extremely solid medical backgrounds. An attempt is made at providing good "touchy feeling" explanations, but truly, these academics aren't as good at that as the "what to Expect" crowd. Nonetheless, it lived at my side as I changed and learned about what was happening to me and my child.
Truly A Reliable and Resourceful Reference! by .. P. Wan-hong (Malaysia) This book covers vast topics, answering every question a pregnant woman has with great detail and yet not leaving you feel bogged down. Very easy to read and follow. I particularly like the tips and symptons one should look out for at every stage. You won't regret buying this book!

Rachel Rimpel () This is a great book to read when you are pregnant. Funny, yet informative, it tells you information you need and want to know in a girlfriend-type manner. I read it through a few times during my first pregnancy, and again during my second!
Read this book if you want a good cry. by .. D. Stamant (Houston, TX) This book is honestly one of the most mean-spirited, catty, snide and sarcastic books I have ever read in my life.
My Mother-In-Law worked at a bookstore and told me how popular this book was amongst the newly-pregnant, so I got it. After all, with all these changes going on with my body and emotions, I needed a good laugh. Well, the only laughable thing about this book is that we first-time preggos have gotten duped into buying this piece of horse vomit. (Please note that I do not blame my M.I.L at all for this, I mean, how could she have known that I would want to eat a bullet after reading the first 10 pages?
Just because this fat piece of crap author let herself become disgusting and undesirable (not that her lack of desirability has anything to do with her personality, yeah right) doesn't mean that we are all doomed to follow down the same path. The author actually RECOMMENDS that pregnant women do absolutely NO exercise during these 9 months, probably because she sat on the couch for 40 weeks gulleting sleeve after sleeve of Oreos and now wants every other woman to share in her own demise.
Oh, and by the way, if you're pregnant, you will also apparently become a grotesque caricature of your former self, belching and vomiting and crapping yourself as you grow ever larger and saggier and your husband has to take 12 Viagra and watch 12 hours of Asian porn before even having a chance of getting it up for you ever again.
This was the first book I read after becoming pregnant and I just sobbed.
The good news is that if you actually take care of yourself and don't just sit on your couch like Jaba the Hut, you don't ever have to succomb to the same fate as this horrible, unfunny harpy.
Funny and reassuring by .. Michelle Fraser-Page (Houston, TX) As a first time mom, I enjoyed reading this. It feels like your girlfriend is cluing you in on what to really expect during your pregnancy, the good, the bad and the gross. It's funny, and it makes me realize that what's happening to me is perfectly normal.
Gives you a great laugh! by .. K. Snipes (MO) I really enjoyed reading this book when I was pregnant. It gave me great laughs and educated me as well. A+
The good, Bad and the BABY by .. Eny (Grand Blanc, MI) With this book you either love it (as I did) or you hate it. There really is no middle ground at all. I bought this book while pregnant with my first child, because honestly, I was sick of reading materials that all related to the blessing growning inside of me to the size of *insert odd food item that you never eat* here. This book completely lightened the mood. It talks about things that you don't generally want to talk about (a woman's *ahem* taste) or things that you're just too embarrassed to ask your real life girlfriends (No - my belly button never did go back to it's original shape, even though I'm #45 LIGHTER then when i got pregnant with #1!)
Now that I'm actively TTC #2 - I'm looking forward to digging this book out of the forgotten baby stuff and revisting the light-hearted, humorous approach that Ms. Irvine takes on pregnancy. I know that a lot of people swear that she hated being pregnant - but honestly, after years of trying and finally conceiving - if she hated it, she wouldn't have done it 5 TIMES!
I will warn, this book isn't for those that are expecting a no-problem, "pregnancy is only me - but better" 9 months of life. It will kill your jaded thoughts in the first page. But for those of us that love humor, sarcasam and the real-life accounts - I definately reccomend it!

McGeough () The book came in great shape in no time at all. It actually arrived in better condition than I expected. A++
Written for the Homer simpsons of the world by .. jasoncocobolo () Not a bad book, but seems clearly taylored towards the Homer Simpson type of father out there, some advice is good, while the rest of it is almost insulting to one's intelligence, or are there really that many fathers out there that have no clue? If you have a general idea of how to be a good husband or father, dont get this book.
Unclear Advice, Not Holistically Minded by .. Author of Healing Our Children & Cure Tooth Decay (San Jose, CA) If you like the book, "What To Expect When You Are Expecting," then you'll probably like this book. Clearly this was meant to be a male version of "what to expect when you are expecting." It's very conventionally oriented, with the author appealing to mainstream thinking, which involves a medically oriented birth, and poor nutritional guidelines. The book is very structured, and there is allot of stuff in their about money. It's funny that I have yet to see a woman's pregnancy book that discusses finances. So it's good that this book does. Most of the advice is towards the center/conservative approach to child raising and is wishy washy as it is meant to appeal to many types of readers.

Excellent stuff by .. Ram Chandrasekaran (Bloomington, IL, USA) This is a good resource for the guys. Not so technical like the Mayo or What to expect....., but it takes you through some of the fun aspects of pregnancy. Also talks about how you can do things (birth, baby furniture/clothes purchase, cord blood banking, etc etc) differently. I would say that this book contributed a bit to the confidence I had in handling things during my wife's pregnancy.
Great book for fathers-to-be by .. J. H. Black (Indianapolis, IN) I ordered this book to get a good idea of what to expect during my wife's pregnancy. It's informative and easy to read.

Product Description The first of its kind to combine practical information with beautiful design in a keepsake format, The Pregnancy Journal will reassure mothers-to-be about their babies' developmental stages and provide room for expectant parents to record the thoughts, experiences, and joys of pregnancy. Customer reviews My favorite Pregnancy Book by .. Sara Villeneuve (Vermont, USA) I absolutely love this book. It was given to me when I was pregnant and now I give it to all my friends the moment they tell me they are expecting. I was very interested in all of the information about the growth and development of my baby, the connections to mothering from other cultures, and my favorite part was recording my own data. I saved my journal in my daughter's hope chest and hope that one day she will see what an exciting experience I had during my pregnancy for her. I strongly recommend this as a gift to give to others or yourself!
Great book during your pregnancy by .. T. Rayborn (Austin, TX) I had this book when I was pregnant with my twins. As soon as I found out I was pregnant again, I wanted the exact same book for this baby. It has day by day progress of your baby which is fun to read. It also has weekly places to write down your mood, appetite, nausea, cravings, weight and belly size. It's a fun way to journal your pregnancy.
Love this book, but be careful by .. Cassidy Lovelace (Nashville, TN) I love this book. It has day by day development for Mommy and baby. It also has lots of places to right small notes about cravings, mood, weight, and your own thoughts. I received this for my first pregnancy and bought it myself for my second. Be careful when you buy that you be sure to get the "revised" version since it has more pages to write in details about planning your feelings about the pregnancy, hopes and dreams for you baby and extra pages for notes.
Excellent resource!!! by .. K. Sterken () I love this journal. It has excellent information everyday. It tells you what your baby is doing daily. I would recommend this to all moms-to-be.
Not really a journal by .. Madilyn Paisley () i bought this book from a local bookstore and it was wrapped in plastic, so i didn't get to see what i was buying until i got it home. it has good information, but i wanted something that would let me write (like a journal should) about my feelings and put in pictures of ultrasounds. i'm keeping this b/c like i said it's good info but the title is misleading - it should The Pregnancy Book, not Journal.

Very detailed, with just about all you need to know. The pictures are great too.
What to Expect From Your Conventional Pregnancy by .. Author of Healing Our Children & Cure Tooth Decay (San Jose, CA) If your the type of person who is totally into the western medical perspective, going to doctors for pregnancy care, and having a medically managed birth in the hospital, then this is the book for you.
It is highly medically oriented, and comes from a seemingly neutral and non-passionate perspective. Their are lots of graphics and pictures. The book might be titled, "what to expect from pregnancy if you go the conventional route."
If your looking for something alternative and vital, you might try, Healing Our Children: Because Your New Baby Matters! Sacred Wisdom for Preconception, Pregnancy, Birth and Parenting (ages 0-6).
Very Helpful by .. A. Riezinger (Ga) With my first pregnancy I ordered several books on pregnancy and this was by far the best. It has week by week updates as well as weekly pictures of your developing baby. I have now ordered additional copies of this book as gifts.
Great resource by .. K. Laubernds (Maineville, OH United States) After searching Amazon.com for the right pregnancy book, I settled on this one. I have not been disappointed. I love the week-by-week photos of your baby inside the womb, and I have learned a lot about my pregnant body from reading this book. Some reviewers didn't like the graphic photos, but they are real photos. I will admit that there are a lot of photos of naked pregnant women, but it does give you a good idea of how your body changes. I recommend this book to pregnant women who want real photos and lots of truthful information.
Best pregnancy book by .. Pnut (California) This is a very good and informative book on preparing for pregnancy as well as your journey throughout pregnancy. I highly recommend this book.

Customer reviews LOVE IT!!! by .. Sandie (Fort Worth, TX USA) I bought this book at a used bookstore and after erasing a few marks in the book I have used it since the first month of my pregnancy.
There is so much information and helps you stay so organized. I don't need ALL of the pages (such as the Nanny interview questions) but I can't think of one thing that was left out of this book to keep you organized. It even has a list of people to notify when you are on the way to the hospital and a list of people to contact for the dad.
Nobody will need every page but it will help you make sure you ask the right questions and think of everything during a time when you think you are losing your mind! I have two favorite sections. The first favorite is the Prenatal Check-up section that lets you track all your stats and questions (which is very important when you are high risk). The second favorite is the checklist for the "getting prepared for baby" and "packing for the hospital". It gave me some great ideas of things to remember to take.
Excellent by .. Andrew G. Cross () this book is what my g/f needed, she is very satisfied by your product and send she thanks
It is the Pregnancy Organizer! by .. S. M. Riley (N. Miami, FL USA) This book is very very very informative considering I am a 'first-timer'! It has everything you can think of from 'a healthy start' to 'at home with baby'. There are calenders, healthy diet charts, fetal movement charts-the works. If you want a book that has EVERYTHING than this book is for you. It's not a scrap book but more of a data entry type book. It was a little overwhelming at first but I've got it under control now.
Perfect Planner by .. Shannon Wolosiewicz (Royal Oak, MI United States) I loved this thing. It was perfect for my needs and helped me to keep track of all the details of my pregnancy without being overwhelmed. I used it a TON.
A planner for the mom that loves to plan by .. HEIDI FORE (Louisville KY USA) I am a Planner - I plan every second of my day. Not knowing what to expect or plan for in pregnancy really freaked me out. I love this Organizer and carry it with me everywhere I go. My nurses have all been impressed with how many details I have in it. I have used for the last seven months and I love it. I am buying three more copies today to give to my girlfriends who are pregnant.

Product Description Finally—A Pregnancy Book That Won't Put Men to SleepMy Boys Can Swim! tells real men everything they really want to know about pregnancy, such as: How much is it going to cost? Why does your wife primp before seeing her doctor when she hasn't put a stitch of make-up on for you in months? And, most important, what's it going to do to your sex life? This rollicking, laugh-out-loud book is for expectant dads in search of bottom-line pregnancy information, without all that boring touchy-feely stuff you find in those books written for women. Inside you'll discover helpful—and hilarious—information and insights on such topics as: The Maternity Wardrobe: "A key part of the maternity wardrobe is maternity underwear—parachute-like undies big enough to fit an NFL defensive lineman." Baby Names: "Don't give your kids mockable names like Thaddeus, which is Greek for 'I'm a dork and should be beaten up.'" The Birth: "No one told me it's normal that babies' heads can be misshapen at birth. I was convinced that my wife gave birth to Veldar, the conehead." Customer reviews He Loved It! by .. J. Casell (Minneapolis, MN) I bought this book for my husband to read. He has been more excited about the pregancy than I have (right now all I am is sick all the time). He loved this book to the point that he felt compelled to read parts of it out loud to me whether I was paying attention to him or not. The only down side is that the author breezes over things very quickly. It seemed to go from conception to birth very quickly, but it you what your man to actually read something informative and funny this is the book for you.
Funny and informative by .. AmyCat (KS) My husband really enjoyed this book. It was a funny, fast read and kept his attention.
Great for dads, even moms who want laughs by .. alaena39 (Clarksville, TN USA) My mother in law bought us books to read and got this one for my fiance. He is in Afghanistan at the moment and so I received the book to send and decided to read it first myself. I laughed pretty hard a few times to say the least and decided this is the perfect book for my fiance for two main reasons. 1) He HATES to read, and a short, humorous book will grab his attention just enough to be able to finish it. 2) He's a guy and frankly, they don't need to be bogged down with details like us women do. What they do need to know, this book offers and its how to support your woman during those interesting 9 months.
Needless to say, he finished the book! It's as the author intended, that a man should be able to finish it within a few short trips to the bathroom. I loved to hear the guy's perspective, which is completely different from a woman's, so naturally, men need to hear it from another guy. If you're looking for vast amount of information, this book won't help you, but feel free to buy this book with another, more detailed book to get the scientific and personal views on pregnancy. This book is meant to give you an insider's personal scoop through the journey from a man's perspective and to provide you with bits of information in layman's terms. If you're a dad that doesn't need to know it all or just someone who wants the comedic point of view of pregnancy, pick this one up because you will have a lot of good chuckles waiting for you.
Absolute Crap by .. Maiya Ferrara () This book is completely awful!!! I bought this book for my husband, thinking that it would help him better understand the issues of pregency. The comments about childbirth classes and having an epidural are awful (you are told that your wife should be given one, whether she wants one or not. The book never gives the many many reasons why an epidual may not be used)!!! This book is completely written from one person's point of view and lacks anything creditable!! I am debating whether or not I should even give this awful creation to my husband. Don't waste your money.
Fantastic! by .. Dallas Courrege () My husband blazed through this book in a day, laughing through most of it. Although there were a handful of topics I thought were missing, it was thorough enough for him. I plan to buy this book for every first-time dad I know in the future!

Customer reviews yummy by .. R. Fichtner (Cohoes, NY) I really like this book. The recipes are yummy and for the most part simple. I also like that they have the nutritional information, meal suggestions, time saving tips, etc. If you are pregnant or just want a good cookbook, I would definitely recommend this book.
Tasty and nutritious! by .. Ms. K (Pequot Lakes, MN) This is a great cookbook. I especially love their breakfast recipes - the whole wheat pecan waffles are to die for. The recipes are honestly family friendly, and many of them use ingredients that most people have on hand. I think the only thing I had to buy specifically for the first 4 recipes I tried was plain yogurt. I had everything else on hand already. That never happens!
The book lists some nutrition info for each recipe, but not a whole lot. It tells you which vitamins the prepared food provides for your baby and why they're important, but you really don't have to be pregnant to enjoy the food presented. The only thing I wish it had was a better table of contents. Recipes can be difficult to find within the book.
love it! by .. Mrs. Angela Bayly () This pregnancy book is fabulous. It's packed full of practical information and tips for coping. The shopping lists are great and the recipes are so tasty, you forget they are healthy too. The author has obviously done her research. My family love the grilled flank steak with salsa verde.
I highly recommend this book. If you know someone who wants to do everything they can to have a healthy pregnancy and baby, it's the perfect gift.
Best. Pregnancy. Book. Ever. by .. Happy Cook (Macon, GA) THE BEST OF THE PREGNANCY COOKBOOKS plus excellent, easy-to-use nutrition information. This book has been on my shelf for years and I still cook from it, years after my last kid was born. My family loves the best-ever American meatloaf, crab cakes with red bell pepper sauce, apple-blueberry granola crisp, pumpkin bread, and the list goes on and on. . . Every recipe is healthy and delicious. It's the only pregnancy book that I kept, and I give copies of it to all my pregnant friends and relatives.
Just a cookbook, really. by .. KW (Germany) This is a nice cookbook, but not much more. It does include some nutritional information in the introduction, but the information is VERY basic and not so up-to-date. If you are looking for a decent cookbook, then this book maybe right for you. If you are looking for more of a nutritional guide to pregnancy, then look elsewhere.

Customer reviews Great as a first read. by .. New Mom (California) I purchased this book right around the time I wanted to get pregnant. It's a fantastic, high-level overview of pregnancy which makes it the perfect first book to read. It covers the basics, but doesn't get too heavy in details, that's why I recommend you start with this one.
The information is easy to digest and the bit of humor keep it light and easy to understand. It was a great start to the many, many books I read during my first pregnancy!
It really is the mother of all pregrancy books by .. Longfellows (Kennewick WA) After reading several other pregnancy books, although reading over the same topics, Ann Douglas provides more helpful information. Her writing style is easy to read, funny at times and not biased. You feel as if you are listening to a friend sometimes. This book covers everything from preconception to delivery. This book provides excellent questions for interviewing doctors/midwives. She provides helpful charts. I would recommend the purchase of this book.
Style Match for Pregnancy by .. Who's That (Jersey city) My wife is in her twelfth week of pregnancy and this book was read but not used as a reference for her pregnancy. We tried to figure this out since it got some outstanding reviews. I concluded the style (breezy) appeals to certain people and the reason for the good reviews. We ended up using The Mayo Clinic Guide to a Healthy Pregnancy as the cover to cover and everyday reference book for her pregnancy. The Mayo was a power pack book of information that was organized exceptionally. If you like a breezy, casual girlfriend chatty type book then the "Mother" book is for you. Otherwise stick to the Mayo.
Very helpful information for pre-conception by .. J. Ciriello (Los Angeles, CA) I bought this book to figure out what I should be doing prior to getting pregnant. I did not know how to alter my diet, exercise, when the best time was to try to get pregnant, how to best 'interview' my doctor. This book was very helpful in providing answers to those questions. Although I am not pregnant yet, I did go for my "preconception check up" at the doctor's and am taking the steps toward a healthy, planned pregnancy.
just good by .. M. Patterson (palo alto, ca) I got this based on the reviews, expecting something really awesome. I honestly just found it OK. It seems extremely basic, which can be good for an overview type of book, but I thought it would be much better. I wish I had flipped through it at the bookstore before deciding to purchase it. One of the things I like about it, opposed to many other pregnancy books, is that it has a little section on pre-conception, which is what I was looking for. It talks about some things you can do to prepare before getting pregnant, but it doesn't go into as much detail as I was hoping. I will keep it to have on hand, but would definitely not consider it "the best pregnancy book."

Product Description The average pregnancy lasts 280 days and the suspense can be excruciating! The Pregnancy Countdown Book starts on Day 280 and counts down the biggest milestones every step of the way with one page of helpful information for each day of your pregnancy. Here are tips from doctors and midwives, amusing anecdotes and quotes, and occasional gory-but-necessary details (if you can define the word "lochia," you know what we're talking about). Every page offers an interesting revelation. On Day 231, your baby will be the size of a blueberry but by Day 168, he'll be the size of a large avocado. By Day 124, you'll need to stop sleeping on your back; by Day 90, air travel becomes a dicey proposition. And if you haven't planned the nursery by Day 45, you're playing with fire. A perfect gift for expecting moms of all ages, The Pregnancy Countdown Book is a delightfully irreverent look at the craziest nine months of your life. Customer reviews Love It by .. A. Blass (Buhl, ID USA) This is a great little book. I love how it has a ton a great info from both Dr's and mom's with experience. The real down to earth info. I would really recommend this book!!! A must have...expecially for first timers!! My only wish...there was more than 7 pages of info for the week....just because it is so good!
Very helpful! by .. heath_bird (Orange County, CA) I bought this book along with What to Expect When You're Expecting. I like this book the best out of the two I bought. I like the baby descriptions each week, along with the info of new things happening to your body each week and each trimester. It is a nice overview. I would definitely recommend this book to a friend in a heartbeat. It's a great reference and an easy and funny read. I'm excited to read each week what is happening in that belly of mine!
The Pregnancy Countdown Book: Nine Months of Practical Tips, Useful Advice, and Uncensored Truths by .. K. sivick-lovgren (PA) this has been a nice book that gives you general descriptions at the the beginning of each week, then nice quotes from real moms each day. not a strictly medical based book, but a light book to help guide you through your pregnacny day by day.
Disappointed after such good reviews by .. K. Sterken () I was disappointed by this book after reading such good reviews. It is full of opinions and personal advice but no real factual information.
somewhat informative by .. Robert W. Debord (Chicago IL. USA) A good go to reference when wanting to understand a particular nuance of pregnancy catches you by surprise.
