Product Description This clever book teaches artists the unique skill of drawing perspective for spectacular landscapes, fantastic interiors, and other wildly animated backgrounds to fit comic-strip panels. Customer reviews One of the best texts on perspective by .. Thomas Luth (Los Angeles, CA) While the title says that this is a book on perspective for comic artists, it is actually a very good book on perspective for ANY artist. The book is designed in comic format, and is written and drawn by comic artist David Chelsea, but the information is universal to any representational art form.
The book is presented as a conversation between two artists, David and Mug, where the more proficient artist is helping explain the principles of perspective to his friend. I find this particularly useful, as it not only presents the rules to follow, but explains what we are seeing, and how these techniques reproduce these results.
This book goes much deeper into perspective than many, in the interest of getting it right. Some may find this too much work, understandably, and there is a chapter at the end on shortcuts that offers quicker solutions that will work fine in most applications. What I appreciate is that Chelsea wants us to understand the principles of perspective, and how to use them properly, to provide a strong foundation. Some work demands this level of precision, and that information is here. For many, particularly the comic artists the book is originally aimed at, where turning out several pages a day, each with several drawings, a streamlined approach is very helpful, and provided here.
This is one of, if not THE best books on perspective I have read. It is written informally in plain English in a manner that anyone can understand. Some of the concepts may require a second read, but should be fully accessible for everyone.
Great, I didn't learn perspective at all, but great anyway by .. R. CORDOVA (Mexico City) If you are looking to learn how to render great backgrounds for comics of your own, this may be not the best option.... look, I really enjoyed the book. When I saw some pages in the preview I thought " boy, this may be what I've been looking for" I have always tried to learn perspective, and I have had real problems copping with it... I thought this book will show applied examples of backgrounds in comic pages... but in the end, it tackles the topic pretty much as every other book does it and I personally feel the book should have gone deeper in how to render backgrounds for comic books after all that was the pledge of the cover.
The intro was really good, The Mug character showing the pages with lousy backgrounds (almost like the ones I make)I thought the book will teach how to solve this specif cases but in the end turn out to be really technical and sometimes even boring.
It is really a great book, it worth the money I paid for it, because in the end I learned some stuff that some of my many other books about the topic does not say.
The best part I guess is the layout pages that has in the end, you may trace them and you'll come up with a decent background (this if you can decipher them)
I may recommend "How to draw comics the Marvel Way" in a couple of pages tells you how to tackle the issue for the specific case you mean it; comics.
Cheers!
Incomprehensible by .. Comic Book Guy (Melbourne, Australia) I purchased this book for it's intended purpose, to aid in the production of realistic comic books. Apart from it's routine treatment of one, two and three point perspective drawing, the book is by and large incomprehensible. I simply could not follow the author's diagrams and explanations in any way that made sense. The fact that it is written and presented like an actual comic book may have something to do with this.
A comic book artist needs to understand perspective in the same way as an architect. You have to understand scale, plan drawing and how to project a drawing in three dimensions. For example, a room layout sketched as a rough plan and placed into perspective and scale. This book offers the reader very little easily understood or practical instruction in these crucial techniques.
The Andrew Loomis books, sadly, are long out of print, but if you can get hold of 'Creative Illustration', 'Successful Drawing' and 'Fun With a Pencil' do so, as the subject is beautifully, almost magically explained.
'Vanishing Point-Perspective for Comics From the Ground Up' by Jason Cheeseman-Meyer is a very good book for the comic artist that lucidly explains the basics as well as providing many 'cheats' and solutions to specific problems.
However as far as perspective is concerned, you are better off biting the bullet and learning the whole thing from the ground up. Your drawing will take on a totally different, life-like quality and will progress much quicker.
Knowing perspective inside out will take your art to another level, but not with this book.
Very well done, superb quality by .. top reviewer () I've really come to appreciate such high quality work. This book ranks near the top for providing effective, entertaining, clear instruction at a level that will not disappoint. Very impressed with author's efforts and finished product; compare this book with the brief attempts in many other books by other authors at explaining perspective. The depth and useful illustrations haven't been matched in any other known source currently available. If you find a better source, please post.
Waste of paper. by .. 'Strue () Since I'm a storyboard artist I like a good book on perspective; I bought this one. What a disappointment. It only teaches the basics, and takes a long time doing it. It spends 3 whole pages teaching us that things bigger are closer and things smaller are further away. I kid you not. About 20 pages are spent on 1 point perspective. And so on. The examples are teensy, about 2 inches by 2 inches, so even if you're trying to learn the basics it doesn't give you much room to see it. The jokes are lame. Some of the perspective is even incorrect! (Check out the way the characters stand/sit in some of the panels. Also there's a frame on how to draw women's [...] in perspective...I've honestly never seen anyone with as badly drawn "perspective" as that.)
If you want to get a book on perspective, you don't want to get a sissy book like this. You want to get a man's book. Check out Brian LeMay's layout books, or even "Perspective Made Easy" by Norling. I'm a little crabby I got suckered into this book.

Product Description A collection of primary source materials and original essays, "Perspectives on American Book History" is the first text designed for the growing number of courses in American print culture, as well as a unique supplement for courses in American literature and history. It seeks to fill the void that has developed as the expanding history of the book has moved out of the archive and scholarly journal and into the classroom. The volume includes an introductory essay by Robert A. Gross, chair of the program in the history of the book at the American Antiquarian Society, fourteen chapters composed of primary artifacts and original essays by rising scholars in the field, and an annotated bibliography of research sources. Chapters trace topics in American print culture from Puritan New England to the future of newspapers in a digital age. The artifacts and documents, most of which have never before been anthologized, include excerpts from readers' diaries, accounts of the printing and publishing trades, materials from the alternative press, commentaries on authorship and reading, and visual images. The essays place these primary source materials in their historical, literary, and political contexts and model the ways students might approach them. The volume is accompanied by a CD-ROM image archive, which includes nearly 200 digital images, captioned and keyed to the different chapters. Easily read with standard browsers, the CD-ROM allows access to otherwise scarce materials and vividly assists students in learning how book history is hands-on history. In addition to the editors and Robert A. Gross, the contributors are Nancy Cook, Patricia Crain, Ann Fabian, Alice Fahs, Ellen Gruber Garvey, Jen A. Huntley-Smith, Charles Johanningsmeier, Jill Lepore, Russell L. Martin, Trysh Travis, Glenn Wallach, and Susan S. Williams. Customer reviews what a great idea! by .. () This is a book whose time has come! Never before has such an interesting set of essays on American print culture been collected in one place. It was a stroke of genius to supplement it with a CD-ROM. In this way the book in itself is a testament to the amazing journeys American print culture has taken! The editors have done a terrific job of ensuring readability and compatibility throughout the essays included here. At [money], it's not exactly a steal, but still worth every penny. Destined to become the benchmark against which all other books on the topic are measured.

Hooper (Osaka, Japan) If you're thinking of becoming a comic book artist, then this is the book on perspective that you're looking for. It covers one-point, two-point, three-point, four-point, and five-point perspective. Everything you need all in one book. It also provides some tips for common problems, for example what to do when there is no horizon in the frame or how to make adjustments if a ruled out perspective seems too mechanical. I found this advice on how to add character to drawings useful.
Great for Beginners! by .. C. Hickey () For someone who had always had trouble with proportions and hated doing backgrounds, this book has really helped me to develop my skills. It's use of small practice and then showing them how they can be used in full scale background makes background work not only easy but fun. I really enjoyed this book and I would tell anyone that if they are looking for background and perspective help, this is the book to get!
Great Book by .. Yuraccy Zambrano (Caracas, Venezuela) Vanishing Point: Perspective for Comics from the Ground Up
great book for Design & Perspective Drawings ... highly recommended
putting things into perspective by .. Tiberius (Cyberspace) Firstly, I want to make it clear that I have never wanted to become a graphic artist because I lack the creativity to become one. So, if you need an expert advice, please read someone else's review. However, I have always wanted to understand how this art form works and the book brilliantly served this purpose.
Getting the perspective right must be the first step before you start drawing people, buildings or anything at all. You have to place objects and persons at the right place and in the appropriate size. The ancient Egyptians managed to become famous without acquiring this crucial skill, but nowadays few people would accept a deficiency in this area in the works of their contemporaries.
Perhaps most of us learnt at school that to give a sense of depth and space in the flat-world of drawing, you need to set up one or two vantage points. This book actually makes it clear that you can have any number of them between one and five and also shows what special effect can be achieved by the application of each of these options.
After studying this book for a while, I started to look at pictures and drawings in a different light: I began to search for vantage points, which is, I suppose, an important step towards a better appreciation of visual art.
a great and simple book by .. R. Ekman () i tried several times to learn the secrets of right perspective but never have i truely mange to understand it. everytime it felt i should know stuff i didn't and that it's common knowledge - since it was not cleared and the book i worked with.
with this book i felt i actually treated like what i am - a novice!
its pace and teaching are clear and simple and all you need is to read and follow.
highly recommanded

Product Description "This is the most important book written in the last decade in the field of electronic music. Together with the new Csound technology, it will revolutionize electronic music." -- Max Mathews, Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics, Stanford University Created in 1985 by Barry Vercoe, Csound is one of the most widely used software sound synthesis systems. Because it is so powerful, mastering Csound can take a good deal of time and effort. But this long-awaited guide will dramatically straighten the learning curve and enable musicians to take advantage of this rich computer technology available for creating music. Written by the world's leading educators, programmers, sound designers, and composers, this comprehensive guide covers both the basics of Csound and the theoretical and musical concepts necessary to use the program effectively. The thirty-two tutorial chapters cover: additive, subtractive, FM, AM, FOF, granular, wavetable, waveguide, vector, LA, and other hybrid methods; analysis and resynthesis using ADSYN, LP, and the Phase Vocoder; sample processing; mathematical and physical modeling; and digital signal processing, including room simulation and 3D modeling. The book comes with two CD-ROMs that include more than forty additional HTML chapters; hundreds of musical compositions; more than 3,000 working instruments; the Csound application for Macintosh, PC, and Linux; and a number of Csound audio and score-generating utilities. Book/CD-ROM Contributors include: Bill Alves, Stephen Beck, Mike Berry, Riccardo Bianchini, Kim Cascone, Michael Clarke, Richard Dobson, Archer Endrich, John ffitch, Rajmil Fischman, Michael Goggins, Matt Ingalls, Richard Karpen, Eric Lyon, Gabriel Maldonado, Hans Mikelson, Jon Nelson, Dave Phillips, Jean Piché, Russell Pinkston, Paris Smaragdis, Erik Spjut, Barry Vercoe, Scotty Vercoe. Customer reviews An opus work on both Csound and computer music by .. calvinnme (Fredericksburg, Va) This book is one of a relatively small number of texts that are essential for the library of the computer music practitioner. The book has two CD-ROMs full of several books worth of material. This book is not only a remarkable reservoir of information specific to the Csound compiler, it is also very useful as a general source concerning many aspects of computer music techniques and synthesis methods.
Many have lamented the terse documentation of the Csound manual since it does not provide sufficient examples of how the various opcodes and features of the language may be used by composers and researchers. The Csound Book succeeds brilliantly in filling the void. Even for the seasoned computer musician, the text provides numerous opportunities for "ah ha!" moments and spurs renewed creative responses to musical problems. Part of the reason for this lies in the abundant resources of the language itself and its continued development and refinement by members of the Csound community.
This is a great companion book, allowing the reader to explore practical applications of concepts such as Fourier synthesis, digital filter theory, chaotic systems, reverberation, and algorithmic composition. This is accomplished very elegantly and always with reference to direct experience with the aid of numerous examples of Csound code. The book serves an important function by providing concrete examples of myriad synthesis methods, digital signal processing techniques, and specialized applications within one conceptual framework.
This book is full of excellent graphics, uniform and well commented coding examples, illustrative instrument-design flowcharts, thorough indexing, appendices of various kinds, all of it extremely well edited. There is an impressive unity to the text even though different authors have written the various chapters.
There is a treasure trove of instruments and compositions contained on the CD-ROMs. Many of these are by established composers of computer music and by the authors of the various chapters. Others, however, are by students from around the world. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in computer music in general and Csound specifically.
The Definitive csound Book by .. Mark (Chicago) If you want to learn csound this is THE book to buy in conjunction with csounds.com you will need nothing else. Beware though, it takes lots of time and effort to learn this language and it is not easy. Buy this book only if you are very serious about trying your and at csound. As to Michael S Rempel review, if you are going to drop names to try to sound knowledgeable
" Most of the sound designers in Hollywood use CSound. I know more than a few of them. The guy who invented Trance music, BH is a CSounder. Everyone in his studio owns a copy of this book! I could keep name dropping for a long while, but you get it. CSound is one of the best kept open secrets in the world."
at least drop them correctly. It's BT not BH and he most definitely did not "invent Trance music." He is however an avid csound user. Sorry I just could not let that slide.
Nobody Does it Better by .. Michael S Rempel () Beginners be warned. This is not a book that is designed to hold your hand. For that go to www.csounds.com and check out the beginners secton. Also join the online forums. This is the site that the author, Dr. Richard Boulanger maintains for people looking to get started with Csound. It is also the place most of the really good CSound software developers and users hang out. If you have explored synthesis on another platform, then this is the book for you. If you have explored CSound a bit, and want depth then this is the book for you. Dr. B has compiled resources and brings together the best of the CSound community in a compilation that is really a collection of CSound essays. Many of the articles are regretably brief. A few sections are missing all together. (Most notably the midi section is not included, and is still not written) But what is written in this book is the best information you can get anywhere on the subject of computer synthesis in ANY LANGUAGE. I need to clarify that a bit though, two new projects are on the way which will change that. Csound 5 is in developement, and MPEG 4 also has a world class sound engine. But in both cases these new technologies are based on the stuff in this book. Yes, that is right, MPEG 4 has a csound like engine in it. Csound is first rate. Nothing beats it. I have done the plugin thing, and downloaded or bought just about everything in synthesis available from anywhere. Some tools can offer you nice canned sounds, or pretty patch chords and knobs. But for pure raw power, flexability and creative oomph nothing can equal CSound. This book will take you from the world of patch chords and knobs into the world of programming. That is where the power is baby, in programming. Where anything can plug into anything. All you need are some programming chops and any music or noise you can dream up is at your finger tips. If it happens in any synth anywhere in the world, then eventually it will happen in CSound. And mostly it already does. And what is more, in CSound you can combine ANY methods of synthesis you want AT THE SAME TIME. No other synth can do that. Period. BTW the CSound software is free. That is right, free on the PC, free in Linux, and free on the mac. So buy the book, download the software, and meet everyone who wrote the book, and most everyone who writes anything to do with the CSound software on the CSounds web site. If that is not enough to convince you, consider this: Most of the sound designers in Hollywood use CSound. I know more than a few of them. The guy who invented Trance music, BH is a CSounder. Everyone in his studio owns a copy of this book! I could keep name dropping for a long while, but you get it. CSound is one of the best kept open secrets in the world.
The definitive Csound compendium by .. Tim (Chicago, IL) A word of warning to electronic music newbies: Be sure to learn the fundamentals of synthesis and MIDI before venturing into the realm of Csound. This book assumes a level of knowledge regarding these subjects and will present an insurmountable challenge to someone with no programming experience. However, for those that do, it will present a whole new universe of possibilities. As a composition tool, there is nothing quite as extensive or powerful as Csound, which is why there is an equally extensive learning curve for its students. I feel that this book is probably better suited as a text for a college course rather than a stand-alone guide for DIYers. But in its defense, I belong to the latter category and have fared pretty well in learning the language. While I must criticize Mr. Boulanger for not giving thorough enough explanation to some critical topics in his book, overall--this is by and far the best resource for anyone attempting Csound. You will find the contents of the included CD-Roms to be an immense supplement to the book's chapters.
Not for beginners by .. () Csound is probably the most powerful digital synthesizer software available. And it is essentially free. But writing code to produce music can feel like creating your own custom draw program from scratch to create a painting. There is no noodling with a keyboard or twisting knobs and listening to instant results. No, you create an .orc and a .sco file, one for the instruments and the other for the "notes"(though the language can be used to create filters and process sound). This gives you unlimited control, but you pay the price of programming headaches e.g. debugging, crashes, etc. There is also a very steep learning curve. Csound is a work in progress, though. Matt Ingalls's (and others) tireless work has made Csound easier to use, and has even updated it to Mac OS 10. He has also created an extension that allows Csound to interface with Max/MSP, perhaps simplifying the composers task. Nevertheless, Csound has a long legacy as a musicN language, and it has its roots in computer science. If you are getting started in electronic or computer music and have little background in the field, this book may ultimately prove frustrating. Chapter one provides a perfect example. It opens with an .orc file and uses terms like control rate and sampling rate, but it isn't until much later that we find out what these things mean. Much of the first section is difficult to work through because of this approach. I think that the book would benefit from a rewrite, and I mean truly rewriting section one from scratch so the foundation is Basics of Synthesis. A section written like a "Dummies" book would be helpful for beginners like me, while the Csound mavens could simply flip to chapter X,Y, or Z and read at their level. Otherwise, the author should dispense with the basics and focus on making this a book for those already familiar with Csound. Obviously, the author/editor put tremendous effort into this book, so it seems a pity that it is kind of poorly organized. Finally, The Csound Book would benefit from careful spell checking (the author refers to GEN21 creating "Poison" distributions). After having spent a year with the Csound book, I can make some recommendations for someone wanting to start electronic composition. You must read Curtis Roads's Computer Music Tutorial, probably the best electronic music book written. Don't let the dry title fool you, it is great reading. It will teach you the fundamentals and will serve as a reference if you decide to tackle Csound. Or, consider using Max/MSP instead of Csound. It isn't free, but it does have a graphical interface, yet it does not sacrifice flexibility. And you can now use Csound as a sort of "plug in" for Max/MSP. If you want to make popular music, Csound will probably only prove useful if your current software can't make a sound that you want. As I said, Csound is a work in progress. A new book called "Virtual Sound" by Riccardo Bianchini and Alessandro Cipriani, reviewed in the Spring 2002 Computer Music Journal may be a better resource.

Product Description Philosophical aesthetics and theories of art are among the last areas in which feminist critiques of traditional disciplinary assumptions are being explored. "Aesthetics in Feminist Perspective" examines the intellectual traditions of the philosophy of art and aesthetics. Containing essays by scholars and by the writer Marilyn French, the collection ranges from the history of aesthetic theory to a philosophical reflection on fashion. The contributions are unified by a sustained scrutiny of the nature of 'feminist, O 'feminine, O or 'femaleO art, creativity, and interpretation. Some authors are sympathetic to the idea that there is a distinctive female artistic practice, and others question the soundness of that claim. Both the theoretical essays and those that examine particular artists or genres of art represent the tensions between how women are seen, and are judged. The contributors are Ismay Barwell, Carol H.Cantrell, Ren e Cox, Josephine Donovan, Marilyn French, Karen Hanson, Hilde Hein, Mae Gwendolyn Henderson, Jane Kneller, Carolyn Korsmeyer, Estella Lauter, San MacColl, Amy Newman, Jenefer Robinson, Stephanie Ross, Alice Sheppard, Laurie Shrage, Michele Wallace, and Mary Bittner Wiseman. Product Description From the author of A Gentle Madness , the book that delighted bibliophiles everywhere, comes a twenty-first-century guide to book collecting that deals with both the traditional methods of acquisition and the electronic tools now available on the Internet.
Sharing the superb insight he has gathered from booksellers over the years, Nicholas A. Basbanes offers a refresher course on the fundamentals that endure, while questioning certain practices of doubtful validity. Topics include how to determine if a book is a first edition, how to spot book club editions, the significance of dust jackets, scouting the flea markets, how to work the book fairs, and the importance of handling the goods, as well as discussing less tangible issues like spotting trends and shaping a focus. Then he takes a careful look at Internet buying, pro and con, illuminating how you can use these electronic tools to your advantage, and making this the book no modern collector will want to be without.
Customer reviews "A shelf of books bespeaks the soul whose hands have put it there." by .. J. Guild (Toronto,Canada) A wonderful read about the world of books by one of the preeminent writers on the subject of book collecting.Using the word 'subject' to describe the passion of books is akin to using 'subject' to describe love or any other passion.Blame that on me,if you will, not Nicholas.
It seems I never get enough of these books about books and this is one of the best. Here we are given a look in on the wonderful life the author has in the world of the High End Collectors. Those like me,and that means all but a very miniscule number, who can only dream of attending and partaking in those auctions, where single rare books sell for tens of thousands, and lots or even complete personal libraries sell for sums equalling the national treasury of small countries. That doesn't mean reading about that sort of thing isn't very interesting;and the author has the ability to make one feel they are part of that activity. What one gets from this book is that anyone can have the same desires, same enjoyment, and all the rest of what comes along with having a passsion for reading, collecting, owning, sharing, arranging, their personal collection whether it is a small number of favorite volumes or some huge ammassment--it's their collecion and is what they have the ability, desire and resources to call their own.I suppose many who work with books like booksellers or library staff can even imagine the books around them are their own.I remember once reading somewhere, something to the effect that nobody ever really owns a book, but only has the privilege of being its caretaker for a while until it eventually passes on as its "owner" is sure to do--it's only a matter of time. This idea comes through very clearly as the author shows how collectors spend lifetimes searching for books that eventually end up in university, library and other collections.
The author describes the personalities he encounters and we can identify with all of them as we pursue our passion with books.
In a nutshell you'll get from this book that the only real difference between your collection and the world he writes about is a matter of scale
A great read and highly recommended to anyone who loves books and reading.
A most enjoyable book about books by .. Chris (Australia) This is a great book for anyone interested in collecting books, or who likes books, or even anyone just interested in what makes a book collectable. Different people adopt very different approaches and strategies to book collecting and Basbanes documents a number of them. The eccentric madness of it all is what makes it entertaining and I found that this quickly became a hard book to put down. After reading this I suspect that I will never look at books the same way again. The fundamentals of book collection are not unlike other forms of collection, so people who are self confessed "collectors" (You know who you are!) are likely to find this an exciting read. In among all the entertaining yarns is a pretty good starters guide to book collection, and this book contains a number of practical pointers to web sites and book sellers to get the novice started. Overall it was really enjoyable to read and very much a page turner.
An Indispensable Resource for Any Serious Book Collector by .. Janefpl (West Orange, New Jersey United States) In "Among the Gently Mad," Basbanes declares, "the more you read or read about reading, the more you will uncover about other books." And, the more, it seems, you will get to know an ever-expanding circle of people who collect and/or sell books. All their stories are here...what they collect, how they collect them, how much they spend and on and on until the value of this book is almost hidden under their weight. However, if you are serious about book collecting, "Among the Gently Mad" is a tremendous resource. Reading between the lines of other book collectors' stories, you will find out which web sites, bookstores, dealers, book fairs, organizations and other sources can help you fill out your collection. By the way, this is not just a book for those who collect rare books. An antiquarian book is simply described as any book that is worth more now than when first published. Basbanes's first rule of collecting books is to focus on subjects that hold your interest and, in fact, your collection should contain books you actually want to read. If you are gently mad, that is "taking delight in the pleasant touching of books long coveted," this book is an indispensable tool to fulfilling your own madness.
Couldn't put it down by .. BuzS (ny, ny) In rapturous, elegant prose, the author envelops the reader in his consuming passion for books and the people who love to collect them; as the hours flew by while I curled up with Basbanes, I assuaged my guilt at forsaking mundane tasks with the right-on lines that end the book's first chapter: "... a sentiment that I confess I savor on a daily basis: Books are not Life, But then what is?"
Wonderful reading, as always by .. Michael K. Smith (Gonzales, Louisiana) Reading Basbanes is like engaging in a long, relaxed conversation over coffee in your living room with a very knowledgeable friend. In this third volume of his slightly rambling but always fascinating and well-informed discussions of books, book collectors, booksellers and dealers, and all the periperal subjects they engender, he combines advice on bibliophily in the age of the Internet with reminiscence on how collecting used to be done, and what the old and the new still have in common. As a small-time collector of limited resources myself, I enjoy reading abut the fabulous collections built up by those who not only have money to spend but also the intelligence and passion to add value to what they hunt down and acquire by adding to the accretion of knowledge. In fact, as Basbanes makes clear, becoming personally involved with books and other "stuff" is what separates collectors from mere accumulators. In fact, I find I have also become a collector of Nick Basbanes. . . .

Alingh (Emporia, KS) I ordered this book because my daughter had ADHD, and I thought it would be good for Ali to read something designed specifically so that the children themselves can understand what ADHD is, and how it's treated. More importantly, it points out that there is nothing wrong with the child because they have this, and they can know they are not alone. Ali likes the fact that it is understandable, and helps to explain what ADHD is, and how it's treated. I think this book is very beneficial to both parents and children who are wondering about ADHD. We didn't know our daughter had a problem until her teacher asked us to get the ADHD checklists from our family physician. Now, Ali gets straight A's in school, and we don't get nasty notes from her teacher about Ali's inability to sit still in class.
80HD by .. Lori A. Larson (Oshkosh, WI) Wonderfully written! My 8 yr old daughter and 5 yr old son (both struggle with ADHD)were able to relate to the character in different ways. The animation was great and my daughter stated she finally felt good to know she was not alone! This book helped to stir further discussion about ADHD and now my children have a better understanding about the disorder.
Great Resource! by .. Toto (Kansas) My little boy really loved this book, and a friend of his who also has ADHD read it and loved it! Both said they couldn't believe that there other kids out there that felt just like they did.

Product Description Christians are faced every day with daunting choices between difficult alternatives. "What does my Christian faith have to say about the moral issues that divide our society?" There are plenty of people on opposite sides of the spectrum claiming to know the will of God in these matters. It is nonetheless very difficult to find help in looking at both sides of these ethical questions, and applying the biblical witness to arrive at an authentically Christian belief about them. This is precisely what Adam Hamilton proposes to do. Presented as a collection of sermons, Confronting the Controversies includes euthanasia, assisted suicide, creationism, abortion, and homosexuality. Scrupulously fair to both the positions of each side and their motivations for holding them, Hamilton offers clear, concise information on what is at stake in these explosive issues. Hamilton applies a careful, broad reading of Scripture to offer direct yet compassionate guidance on what a faithful Christian response will be. Customer reviews wrong book sent by .. Karen Long Desmit (Little Elm, Tx) The list on amazon. com did not show the book as the Leader's Guide so I had to send it back because it is a guide for a DVD that was not included.
A Balanced View if issues by .. J. Davis (Bulverde, TX) I recommend this book. Adam Hamilton presented the various sides of some of the most controversial issues facing the Church and the United States today. I am using it as a source for my Sunday Adult Christian Education class.
accommodation's Great by .. harold billington (Lake of the Ozarks, Mo) Great Service, Great Book, Is a Great Sunday School Study, Adam Hamilton, is a good, easy to understand,
Confronting the Controversies by .. David W. Ponstein (Wyoming, MIchigan United States) Adam does a nice job of walking you through the issue and leaves it somewhat open so you can create your own thoughts and beliefs. Unlike popular media where you are told what to think - Adam takes a far better approach so you as a Child of Christ can work through the issue depending on where you are at with your journey.

Facing Up To the Issues--From a True Christian Perspective, One of Love, Care and Grace by .. Big D (Auburn, AL. USA) Truly great study of the issues facing today's society and a Christian, a true Christian, response to those issues. This book is not, repeat IS NOT, for those Christians who claim to have and to know all the answers, those who are quick to judge and condemn, but slow to understand or accept the concept Jeus preached most--grace.
This book is for the caring, concerned Christian trying to ascertain and determine how to live a Christ-like life in today's world with all of the issues we face. One may or may not agree with Adam Hamilton's decisions on his personal perspective, but those to think, care, and want to truly view and study the issues as Jesus would have, will find this book most helpful and meaningful. Not a "deep" book, but a valuable book, filled with meaningful perspectives and insights.
Again, this is not a book for the Religious Right, those who claim to be "Christian" and have all the answers, those who enjoy "owning" the moral high ground and take great pleasure in judgement and condemnation of others, those who, while denying it, eagerly look forward to acting as God's Gestapo. This book is for those who earnestly and prayerfully seek to live a Christian Life in our world today.
