This isa very good book to own if you want to know more about selling on line by .. Monkey (Seattle) This is an overall good book to own filled with practical advice about how to run an on line book store. Very indepth, sometimes too much so, like the bit about how to package a book for shipping, but you also do not get that level of detail in anyone elses book either. This is one of the quartet of books you should get when you decide you want to open up your own on line book store.
There are a lot of things sellers need to know and lots of support for this need for knowledge in the book from customer service, what to pay for books, how to grade and price books, as well as tons of other great information that you will need.
Overall 5 of 5 books, enjoyed reading this and learning how to apply the well thought out advice presented in this book.
Probably one of the best tools for our new business by .. Todd Macon (Durango, CO) Michael Mould deserves serious kudos from the world of used booksellers. This book is extremely thorough and gives fantastic nuts and bolts advice. Mike is both rational and encouraging--he avoids the hype of "start-ups" which allows his book to be genuine and open-minded. His "day in the life" anticipates the "basic" questions and his lists of services and weblinks are very helpful. I also highly recommend buying copies that come with the CD "Bookkeeping for Booksellers". That Mike shares all the work he has done is generosity on a karmic scale. Not only is the book helpful, but Mike has created and inspired a large and collaborative community of booksellers through his work. Thanks, Mike, for pointing the way.
"The devil is in the details." by .. B. Baker (Lancaster, PA) Michael Mould covers every detail for those who are interested in online bookselling (as a hobby or a business). I keep this book on my desk and refer to it frequently. Personally, I found the photographs on packaging and shipping to be very interesting (and vital, considering some of his own USPS experiences and insights). He even provides an informative "A Day in the Business" section detailing his own daily bookselling procedures. Very helpful. I have yet to see another bookselling guide to offer such detailed information or step-by-step illustration.

Excelllent starter book for online book selling by .. Reader (Chicago, IL USA) There are so many books out there nowadays that talk about online book selling. The reason I picked this one to read is because I liked it's author's name - Windwalker. It was delight to find out that the author is in fact Native American. But besides that personal preference of mine, I found book to be very helpful. As most people, I started selling books online as a means of relinquishing non-essential inventory from my personal library. It is thru the interactions of my online customers that I learned to enjoy an activity previously considered a chore. Although I am not a professional bookseller, I am delighted to be a part of the bookselling community for the books I no longer wish to keep in my personal library that can still find a good home. This book manual has helped me understand some basic business rules on bookselling which I kind of pick up on intuitively. This is a comprehensive handbook that covers everything, from building a business plan, to making a proper book descriptions online. Without large inventory, I cannot see how people can make living off this. But as a hobby, this is a great way to deliver books to a reading community where readership has limited resources or time to find them in the regular brick and mortar book stores. I definitely recommend this book to anyone interested in learning more about online bookselling.
Selling Used Books Online by .. S. Bittner (Wisconsin, USA) This is an EXELLENT book for the newbie or advanced bookseller. There is a little something for everyone in it. It was written in laymen language for the new comer to the business sauve. I found it informative, helpful, great for anyone in the book business. A MUST read book. Worth the purchase. I give it a 5!!!!

Second thoughts about selling used books by .. Lawrence Johnson (Pennsylvania) I have been selling my old books on line at ebay and half com for awile now and thought an online book store sounded like a good idea. I thought that I would seek some expert advice and in doing so purchased Selling Used Books Online by Stephen Windwalker. This book has proven to be an excellant choice. While some of the information is a bit dated, overall it is a very good book. It doesn't sugar coat the book selling business and make it seem like a wonderfull and easy way to make a living. Mr. Windwalker gives you the good with the bad and shows how selling used books requires a lot of work and and a lot of knoweledge. This book has helped me tremendously in my attempts at making money selling used books. Not only has it helped with my book selling but it has made me more aware of what to look for in my book buying. I highly reccomend this book to anyone who thinks they can just go online and get rich selling used mass market paperbacks.

Sharon Heimann () I purchased the cd rom style and ended up printing a copy so that I could have a hard copy for easy reference and the cd for its incredible links. The excel work sheets helped me develop my own viable business plan. The hard copy is dogeared and well worn, the cd is very close at hand. I highly recommend the book for anyone interested in selling books on line.
Great Starter Kit for New Sellers! by .. Madeleine (New York) I am a small seller. What's more when I started out I hardly had any experience of selling stuff on the internet at all. I learnt a lot from Mike's book. He really covers all the bases from choosing books to describing and packaging them as well as customer service. I also find it very convenient that whenever I am at a loss sitting in front of my pc the book is just a click away. Thanks, Mike!
More than practical: Mike Mould uses interactive links by .. Kathleen J. McPhillips (West Palm Beach, FL USA) After reading this book and another recently (2006) published book on selling books online, I highly recommend this one for several reasons. Because this book is a cd, Mike was able to include extremely helpful pictures which were absent in the other book I read. Notably, clear color pictures depicting various defects in used books; like foxing, cracked, chipped and several other types of defects were illustrated, which were most helpful to me as a novice. In addition, he includes useful charts for analyzing your own business model. As a now part-time CPA, I really enjoyed having someone provide me with concise data which he had accumulated over years of working with excel sheets. Most authors give you only basic information such as average sale prices, average book costs and postage expenses. I'm sure you want to know what you can expect as your bottom line before you jump into something new.
Finally, with the first book I read I found myself jumping up to go to my computer to check out a dot com vendor that they recommended. In this book, Mike lets you just click on a link (and there are many) and voila -- you're there. Other interactive aspects of this cd allows you to navigate the book with ease using both the table of contents and the index.
And the icing on the cake, if you have any questions, Mike answers them by e-mail astonishingly fast. Now if only I could get my plumber to do that life would be a bowl of cherries!

New seller gets turbo charge.. by .. Bibliomaniac (Atlanta, GA USA) I contact Michael Mould about his book and he was very helpful in answering questions before I purchased. After receiving the CD-Rom (which he signed for me, thanks Michael, I will auction it 1st ed autographed...just kidding) I read through it and put many of the principles into play. I have since built an inventory about 300 books (been at this 3 weeks now) and intend to grow this to about 2,000 or so. I have seen significant profits on some books which I bought for $1 and sold for $50. Bottom line, is that this manual provided by Michael is real, authentic, time tested, and practical. Most of all it works. You will not waste your money on this if you are serious about your book online book business. Thanks for sharing Michael, our family is having a lot of fun with this.

Product Description Collectors of fiction have historically sought only first editions and placed little or no value on later printings. But consider this for a moment. If a collector can't afford to pay hundreds of dollars, maybe a thousand or more for a first edition in good condition, why wouldn't a copy that's identical in every respect and very nearly contemporaneous to the first save a different printing indication on the title page verso have at least some value? As far removed from collectible as it sounds, a 31st printing of Gone with the Wind is in this case only a year newer than a first printing; it was still published in the heat of the day and still exudes the historical aura of the first. Consequently, collectors are more than willing to pay $30, $50 or more for it – much more if it has a dust jacket. And there are dozens more titles that exhibit the same collectible behavior. This more recent article first appeared in the newsletter of the Independent Online Bookseller's Association (IOBA) in 2003. It focuses on six major problems that vexed online booksellers then and continue to pre-occupy them in 2007: * the market glut of sellers and available copies; * artificially low pricing or lowballing; * the inconsistency of professional standards and ethics among online sellers; * a wide range of perceived threats related to the Amazon business model; * selling venue glitches, conspiracies, and performance issues; and * the coming shakeout. An Honest Reviewer (Detroit) I read this book when I first started selling books on amazon and I had so many questions. This book answered them all in a simple, direct manner. I have read just about every book that comes out on the subject, and this by far is the most informative and well written. Who cares about the cheap plastic binding? It's the information inside that is important and in this regard, this book is a winner!
Getting this guide is like hiring a personal trainer and mentor. by .. downeast bookseller () Yes, it's true that Amazon itself does a good job of being user-friendly for sellers, but for new-to-the-business folks like me, this is a terrific guide. It's like hiring a personal trainer who's at your side when you want her. It's like exercise--yes, you can do it all by yourself, but it does help to have that one-on-one expertise.
Miller is organized, clear and concise and, she's got a cheeky sense of humor to relieve tension and remind you that, yes, you can do this and it's going to be fine and it's going to be fun! The format is actually easier to use than a paperback book because I can prop it open on the desk to refresh my memory as I work and for whatever step I'm at: creating an accurate listing, contacting customers, finding tools and services to take it to the next level, and so on. In addition, her insider tips from her years in the business are quite helpful and easy to follow.
This is a particularly helpful first guide and then you can graduate and move onto the more sophisticated and involved stuff. Great investment.
I got my start with this book! by .. Idaho Cat Lady (Boise, Idaho) I love books and wanted to investigate selling them on Amazon, so I bought this book. It basically gave me everything I needed to know to get started, and the incentive to try. Although I am still very small, just selling a few books a week, I am in the process of building my inventory and have found that Ms. Miller is right - this is a do-able and profitable business and this book was absolutely invaluable in helping me to get started, and I am going to re-read it again as a continuing reference.
Must Read for a would-be bookseller or experienced bookseller by .. Charles (Park Ridge Illinois) Concise and to-the-point. Easy read. Great real-life examples of seller success stories. Chock full of helpful tips and advice to increase your sales and maintain motivation. If you want to be successful selling books, then read this book first. In fact, read it a few times just to be sure the information hits home. You can easily read it in just over an hour or so. Five-star effort all the way! Thanks Christine!
Okay Info for beginers by .. Allison (Tennessee) I have been selling books on Amazon for several months now and was looking for a book that could give me a little more expertise and tips on how to be more effective at buying and selling books. I found this book to be mostly information I have read many times before in other places, with very little new useful info for anyone who has been selling for more than a few months. This book has some good information for new book sellers, but you can get 99% of this info by reading the Amazon.com guidelines on selling and reading Michael E. Moulds' blog, both of which are free. If you don't want to spend 30 minutes on Google to get this information for yourself, then this is the book for you. If not, don't waste your money.

Product Description In theory, it would be entirely possible to make a living as an online bookseller without ever having to leave your home - that is, it wouldn't matter in the least where you lived, whether or not you had a disability that prevented you from venturing out, small children to take care of, or anything else. Supplies could be delivered to your front door, packaged books with pre-applied postage set out for the mailman to pick up, and yes, you could buy your inventory online. All of it. Up to a point, I suppose, this seems very doable, and of course that very point is the last one - buying inventory online. How easy would it be to buy a book in virtually the same place you're going to sell it and have any chance of making a profit? I say "virtually the same place" because we live in an era when most of us, buyers and sellers alike, have the ability to search multiple venues in a matter of moments for each and every book. Even if a valuable book did pop up online at a low enough price to make resale profitable, you'd be competing not only against countless other booksellers trying to do the same thing but also the buyers themselves, who are forever looking for the best price. You might get lucky occasionally and snag a winner, but how could you possibly to do it often enough to matter? Well, like anything else, if something requires effort and knowledge - and successful buying online does - you can elevate yourself above the vast majority of your competitors simply by expending some effort and acquiring some knowledge; and some, not a lot, is all it takes. Translation: most of the competition is, to a greater or lesser degree, lazy. They will spend most of their days doing the easiest, most obvious things, and leave the rest to us. This is your leg up. It's important to keep online buying in perspective, and reasonable expectations are part of this. If you do this kind of buying a lot, there will be times when you hit pay dirt, find six or eight or more profitable books in a matter of minutes; and there will be times when a few hours might go by, and you'll come out of it with nothing. It very much resembles, in other words, the buying most of us already do in the field. There are no secrets that guarantee success every time you shop. There are, however, strategies that will greatly improve your chances, and if you're patient and persistent, things absolutely will go your way in the long run. This series will show you how to get started. Related Search : buy books , online |
