Samantha Doyle (USA) When I ordered this, I was expecting a small, slim little guide with a few tips and strategies. I mean, how much could there be to a computer game? So as you can imagine, I was surprised when I pulled out a thick, 366 page book that broke down everything you could ever need to know (and more) about The Sims 2 into sections, explaining and describing everything, in detail, from Sim genetics, pre-made neighborhoods and the pre-made families that inhabit them, NPCs, Sim memories, Sim death, building a house... okay, I'm confusing myself (and probably you). Here is the complete chapter/section list:
---
Part One: The Basics
-Chapter One: Getting To Know The Sims 2
-Chapter Two: Getting Started
Part Two: Creating Families, Neighborhoods, And Sims
-Chapter Three: Welcome To The Neighborhood

Part Three: It's A Lot Like Life

Customer reviews Sonic and the Secret Rings by .. Caleb Wright (Corinth, NY USA) I have been a fan of Sonic the Hedgehog for many years. When I heard that Nintendo would be selling Sonic video games, I was a little skeptical about the quality, but they didn't disappoint. This player's guide also reflects the quality of the game with detailed maps and startegies. It's a must for any Sonic fan.
Prima does it again by .. Lord Azalin (Wisconsin) If you must know where everything is then this is a guide book for you. Prima does a great job and they even have a website available for updates to their books (do this if you like guidebooks and do MMO games).
Not Enough For The Speed Demon by .. Michael Kerner (Brooklyn, New York U.S.A.) Although Sonic The Hedgehog has been one of the most loved video game characters since his debut back in 1991, there is absolutely yet to be a strateegy guide since Sonic Adventure DX that can display a definitive reflection through the maps and routes. For Sonic's latest adventure on the Wii, this guide doesn't hit the nail on the head. Sonic & The Secret Rings guide from Prima, doesn't display a lot to help you battle your way through each of the courses of the game. It is unfortunate, because the maps aren't as displayed vividly, and it doesn't actually pinpoint certain areas to help you find hidden items, and features to go against some of the bosses in the game. All in all, I really think Sega should've made the strategy guide themselves instead. The secret is I really don't suggest you get this if you get the game.

only useful to cheat with by .. Joseph M. Arnold (Boston, MA USA) star wars TFU isn't the kind of game that needs a guide. It's completely linear (except for one choice at the very end, which just changes the ending cutscene [and you can just restart from the last checkpoint to see both of them.]) The guide doesn't help explain anything you couldn't figure out easily on your own. It's not like, say, Oblivion or KOTOR where a guide can help you work with the game mechanics (guilds, quests, skills etc.) to make your character cooler without outright cheating. TFU's powers are simple button combo's that are displayed onscreen in the menus. Essentially all this guide has are step-by-step walkthroughs of the (fairly small, completely straightforward) levels, showing you precisely where all the power-ups are. (There's only one type of useful powerup in the game, btw.) If that's your cup of tea, being led by the hand through a game, being told where EVERYTHING is, then this books for you. If, on the other hand, like myself, you call that cheating (seriously, how is that FUN?), and were looking for a book that would immerse you further in the experience, this ain't it.
Guide is hard to follow with some errors, has some good info by .. J. Calouro () Pros:
- Has good info on what/where each holocron is.
- Provides good character profiles.
- Provides short story line to better tie in The Force Unleashed with Star Wars III and IV.
Cons:
- The guide is very hard to follow when trying to proceed through a level. You get easily lost when using this guide. As you proceed down a path, you're not sure what part of the level the guide is referring to. It's very ambiguous.
- There are no detailed maps as you follow the guide, just one simple no detail map at the beginning of each section. You have to keep flipping back to the map and try to figure out where on the map you are. This gets very frustrating as you try to proceed.
- No best route and alternant route information.
- The screenshots in each section are hard to see and don't help. It's very hard to connect the screenshots to your screen. They are a complete waste of space and add no value. Detailed map inserts would have been a better use of this space.
- Although I listed Holocron locations above as a pro, the guide is frustrating to use as it guides you to them. The info and direction the guide provides is vague.
- Has errors for what buttons to hit for some force combos for the PS3. For instance, it may list X, X, X, X for a particular combo, the actual button may be square.
All and all, this is an ok guide, it helped me get some holocrons (although it was frustrating to use), but you really don't need it. The guide gives you generic advice and info on beating bosses that you could figure out yourself.

Go with a different brand, or better yet....an oblivion wiki.... by .. David M. White (Las Vegas, NV United States) I bought this along with the game for x360. This guide is for all versions of the game(x360, ps3, pc, etc.) so what is correct for one platform might be different from your choosen platform. This results in having to figure out what is correct for you and what isn't(the guide says that this might not work for a specified platform but it isn't consistent or consistently correctin regards to this problem). I just got a fable 2 guide book a few days ago from a different brand and the fable book is 10 times better in all aspects. I would definately Not reccomend this book to anyone. I HAVE to suggest not throwing your money away on this and using an oblivion wiki(I'm not going to reccomend any wiki, but a quick search will bring up quite a few). I have found myself using a specialized wiki whenever I have a question about the game and I haven't even opened this book since the week after I opened it the first time(2 months or so). Since amazon doesn't give any guidelines for giving stars, I used this:
1 star: horrible
2 stars: below average
3 stars: average
4 stars: above average
5 stars: great

Very useful guide for a GREAT game. by .. William Drennan (Germany) Not required to enjoy Oblivion, but very very helpful, especially if you're looking for that item you missed. Well worth the green to get it. Covers all platforms and published add-ons. Second printing (available now) now correctly includes previously omitted maps, etc). Covers available spell/item creation criteria, item/quest locations, monster types and stats, complete quest writeups, screenshots and much more. Single annoying factor (that wasn't fixed with the first edition)remains the lack of proper indexing of quests. General categorizing is nice, but there is no rhyme or reason to the order of the listings, resulting in a lot of spoilers revealed while you're looking for the route that one NPC you need to talk to is travelling. Not a biggie or dealbreaker; just have a degree of patience while perusing this big tome of info.
A MUST HAVE!!!!!!!! by .. Jay Miller (Forked River, N.J USA) I just got this book a few weeks ago. I've had Oblivion since I bought my 360 and this is one of they best RPG games of all time. The game is a must own. The game is massive, The biggest game world i've ever seen before. So of course if the game is massive your going to need a book that has easy to read conetnt, Lots of Maps, detailed information on the weapons, items, spells, potions, monsters ETC. This is the book!!!!!!! It has everything you need to know about playingt Oblivion. It even helps you make your character. Kind of like when you make your character in Dungeons and Dragons. It tells you how to maximize your character to the fullest even before you start your adventure. The overall walkthrough is amazing!!!! The book even tells you where to get started on your quest. Who to talk to if your doing a freedom quests or how to join the drak brotherhood and it even suggests who to kill so you don't mess up your game later on. It's a must have if you love this game. It will not just get you through that rough spot but it opens up all the possibilities that the game offers you. It opens up all the doors in this game. I don't think I would be able to know everything about this game if it wasn't for this book! I'm planning on getting the Shivering Isles and the Knights of The Nine one day. It has everything about them as well. All the maps are in the back and there are a lot of great maps. It even had all the downloadable content that you can get for the game. This book is priceless if you love this game. Buy this book! You won't be sorry. I've been playing games for over 13 years and this the best book i've owned for a game. Prima has done it again!!!!!! I don't know why it got bad reviews. The maps are in the back of the book and it has pages and pages of them.
Top Notch by .. Andrew Rubottom (Nebraska) I dont know what the other review-ers are talking about? the maps are in the back, the book is great, it is a must have. The game is massive and so is this book. Everything you need to know about oblivion is in this book. If you have oblivion, you have to have this book!

Product Description Background information on every band and all 58 songs Strategies to help you master every instrument Dev team scores: solo and band top scores for every song Overall band tips to best complete each song Difficulty rankings for each instrument on every song Bonus material, including expert hints and tips from the game developer and testers, a list of achievements, and a tutorial on how to play drums Customer reviews Adds nothing to the experience by .. William C. Hand (Absecon, NJ USA) I was happy to see this priced lower than many of the game guides I've bought before, but I was still disappointed in the content.
There is no more instrument-specific information here than in the little pamphlet that comes in the game package.
Things it does not answer but should have: what the blue background means when playing bass (I've since determined it means you've exceeded the 4x multiplier that Lead is limited to, and you're in a "bass groove"), what the difference between "static" and "scrolling" for voice is, exactly how voice difficulty changes (does it get stricter? use speech recognition? etc.)
Instead, it regurgitates the game pamphlet, provides hints straight out of the in-game tutorials, then pads out the majority of the pages with useless song-by-song information. The "history" of the song is basic copyright dates and authors, no trivia or actual history of the songs, followed by someone's opinion of how hard they found it at medium and hard (nothing for easy or expert) where my mileage definitely differed. What appears to be little bits of trivia scattered around the page is straight out of the game load screens.
This really ends up being worthless, which is a shame. The excellent game deserves so much more.
Prima Rock Band - Coming to a garage sale near you! by .. Ken Gruenemeier () I bought this book mainly for advice (or tricks) about how to play (guitar or drums) and sing better. Very little advice is given about actually playing the instruments and singing and what advice they do give is already contained on the tutorials section of the video game. The advice on setting up to the drums was fair information. Besides that, the Prima guide did not help me to improve my play.
They also suggest starting at medium skill level. Not everyone is a video game junkie or Neil Peart, Frank Zappa or Sting. Starting at medium would put some of my friends off the game for good! (especially drums) Yet the medium skill level is mainly ignored and they talk mostly about hard and expert. It is not an explanation on how to get to Hard or Expert or even what to do once you're there. Prima suggests practice and gives advice at what sections of the particular songs to practice to be able to get through the song. Imagine that... practice! Who would have guessed?
I guess I can re-evaluate the book to see if it is more useful once I am attempting to play at the hard level (right now, I'm challenged on medium). However, I doubt it will be used for little more than a casual reference to the songs. Save your money and do the Rock Band tutorials that come with the game.
I am 0 for 2 with Prima guides. The other was Madden 08. I have a PS3 and I found that many items in the book are not available to me. Also, they switch back and forth from platforms as the PS3 is often ignored.

Customer reviews A jumbled mess by .. T. bailey () This 368 page thick book has one page, ONE PAGE table of contents, with about 20 entries, and with no index. Granted, the material in this book is excellent, but expect to spend frustrating hours and hours trying to find what you need.
The existing organization also is horrendous. I wish Prima Games/Bethesda could explain to me how horses are a "Freeform Quest"
In addition: The map section is horrendous and dark. There is no overall map of the entire area.
What I find so amazing is how so many reviewers can criticize the Fallout 3 guide for no index, when Fallout 3 has a 2 page table of context with around 400 entries, and yet so many reviewers gave this criminally disorganized book five stars. Herd mentality I guess?
Get the GOTY edition by .. William Drennan (Germany) Was very good when first published, but I recommend getting the GOTY edition now (second printing) as it has all maps for the add-ons etc.
Oblivion Walkthru, Help Guide by .. GatorMan (OK) A nice Help Guide, A good Walkthru Manual.
Lots of maps, photos, and advice..
Extremely Helpful by .. K. Ferl (Nor Cal) Oblivion wouldn't be as interesting without this book telling you of the special areas, secrets, and back story. Necessary to purchase with the game.
Got what i need. by .. What? () This guide has everything you need for ever quest in the game, and is one of the most complete strategy guides ive seen.
Has a nice section about creating a character and character development, side quests, skills, and maps of the areas.
If you want to get the most out of the game I would get this guide.
