Product Description When Lieutenant Commander Heidi Kraft's twin son and daughter were fifteen months old, she was deployed to Iraq. A clinical psychologist in the US Navy, Kraft's job was to uncover the wounds of war that a surgeon would never see. She put away thoughts of her children back home, acclimated to the sound of incoming rockets, and learned how to listen to the most traumatic stories a war zone has to offer. One of the toughest lessons of her deployment was perfectly articulated by the TV show M*A*S*H: "There are two rules of war. Rule number one is that young men die. Rule number two is that doctors can't change rule number one." Some Marines, Kraft realized, and even some of their doctors, would be damaged by war in ways she could not repair. And sometimes, people were repaired in ways she never expected. RULE NUMBER TWO is a powerful firsthand account of providing comfort admidst the chaos of war, and of what it takes to endure. Customer reviews New insight by .. Ronald H. Underdahl (Georgia) Provided a different perspective regarding the effects of combat on Marines. Very touching. Held my attention from beginning to end. Gained new insight into what my son, two tours in Iraq, has been dealing with.
Nothing normal about three purple hearts by .. Chaplain Camarda (Switzerland, FL) Dr. Kraft has surprised me and helped me to understand better what I was going through as a chaplain at a M*A*S*H type hospital. I arrived about the week that Heidi left Iraq. While reading her account I felt like I was again feeling the heat, the terror, the crazieness and the very un-normal life we lived and survived...sort of. I vaguely remember Heidi when she was at the Naval Hospital in JAX. What an Heroic and courageous and real woman she is. Thank you. This book needs to be required reading of all military pshychologists and chaplains. And since we have so many veterans returning from the war, and families are affected in tremendous ways...then all counselors and ministers should be made aware of this superb account of being real. I just read this book after I published my book: Tear in the Desert. It is amazing how similar it is to be HUMAN. God bless you Dr. Kraft and a huge thank you for serving goes out to your husband and children! Semper Fi!
Simple prose with complex and surging undercurrents.. by .. P. Rob Sharma (Fort Detrick MD, USA) ..is how I would describe this book. It is not wriiten in complex and deep philosophical style, but its simple, honest and sometimes heart-rending frankness and bare-all simplicity makes it powerful and moving. A soldiers suffering is palpable and deeply felt, but you will admire the courage that calmly masks the underlying longing for family, and the plainly written details of turnoil from witnessing the psychological devastation of fellow soldiers will move your heart.
Not a great read for non Marine military people by .. J. Parmar (US Army) While I will credit the book with being a good personal account of one person's short experience in Iraq, I found the book to be very insulting-especially to other military branches. As I write this review, I am trying to imgaine how this book would benefit civilian readers. I'm sure it gives a glimpse into what a combat zone is actually like-although there are many other books that do so with more experience behind the author. If I were affialited with the Marines-I would be happy with the book perhaps...but I am an Army spouse, stationed overseas, married to a soldier who is going on his 4th deployment-his 3rd to Iraq. I found this book was condensending, 2 references in particularly that insult the Army. How dare a Special Forces soldier NOT be intimidated by 10 Naval Officers! To claim that the Army was waved too and praised as they rolled into Iraqi towns while the Marines are getting shot at is not only inaccuate but very demeaning. We should be proud of ALL service members none of who enter a war zone and come back the same. I also found it disturbing that midway through the book the author decided to leave the Navy because being with family is more important. Surely those soldiers, sailors and airmen who, despite missing YEARS (not months like the author) of their children's lives, are saying that family is less important. Serving one's country is a high calling and it should NOT be compaired to a choice between ones devotion to their family or their country. A big THANK YOU should be extended to those who, DESPITE having to leave their family STILL PROUDLY serve. The freedoms and safety we sleep under each night is provided curtesy of those who VOLUNTEER to serve. And being caught without your kevlar? How nice to go to Iraq and be so lax about having this with you at all times. These are just several of the irriatations I found in the book.
I appreciate the author's attempt to bring to civilian light one person's account of her time in Iraq, but the constant irriatations took away from the book for me.
Rule #2 by .. H. Hayes (VA USA) This was a very good book. It gave me a better appreciation for what our troops are going through in Iraq and Afghanistan - from the point of view of a young mother serving her country.

Nick’s not so sure he’ll make it to his fourteenth birthday! Customer reviews Great auther by .. My two bits () Anthony horowitz is a great auther. All of his Diamond brother books are great..
PERFECT BOOK FOR ALL AGES
Watch out for the Fence, Nick! by .. A. Rand (United States) Mysteries aren't what I usually read, but I enjoyed Horowitz's Alex Rider books so I read the first book in this series, The Falcon's Malteser, and thought it was okay. I got this book, Public Enemy Number Two, recently to see what Nick Diamond was up to now. Well, this time, 13-year old Nick Diamond gets himself thrown in the clink--JAIL! He's been framed for a jewel heist and finds that he's sharing a cell with Johnny Powers, who is public enemy number one. To clear his name, Nick has to break out of prison and get the infamous Fence, a criminal mastermind. Of course, this is where Nick's brother, Tim, comes into the picture. It's got sarcasm and wit, and is just as entertaining as the first book. Recommended if you like mysteries or Horowitz's Alex Rider books.
Great! I give it a 4 out of 5 by .. reyane kun (NJ) Great book! Anthony Horowitz is a genius! I also recommend Skeleton Key. I especially liked the whole plot. For people who havn't read this I shall not ruin it for you. Please pick it up if you are a teen who likes to read. It is very descriptive. Anthony Horowitz is one brialliant writter for making Skeleton key and Public enemy two. The book is about how a normal kid got asked to go to prison for a little bit just to make a friend so that friend can tell him who is the gang leader is. he says no but that doesn't change anything. He goes to a school trip to a museum. a vase called the purple dove was stolen and him was frammed. He goes to court and turns guilty. and that is the beginning.
breathless by .. () i love thiss book, i love this author, what we have here is a well constructed story with humor, action and a great mystry roled up into a riveting story that will keep you at the edge of your seat, i started and fineshed it in one day and was totally breathless throught the whole thing.i can't even begin to describe the plot without getting carried away, i laughed or gasped through the whole thing, Nick has a great voice that any teen can identyfie with even though they will probubly never find thenselves in the same place, although Tim is so dunb it gets annoying it would not be as good any other way. though the one thing that bothered me was Nick's older brother's name is Herbert, and Tim is his professional name he is known as Tim through this book but Herbert through the preveous, well the gook has so many other GREAT qualiteis that is easy to ignore
A Brilliant Sequel to 'Falcon's Malteser'! by .. T. J. Jones (San Diego, CA United States) The second mystery in Anthony Horowitz's Diamond Brothers Series is just as good as the first one. Nick gets framed for a jewel theft and he soon finds himself embroiled in grand plot involving public enemy number one, 15 year old Johnny Powers, and the England's master criminal, the Fence. This adventure offers all of Nick's classic sarcasm, wit, and his quick-thinking which were most usefull in those sticky situations. Again, Horowitz offers all of the same thrills and chills as he did in the first book and his wildly successful Alex Rider series. The characters are entertaining, the situations thrilling, and the ending is simply unexpected. A great second mystery in this series that is sure to be just as big as Alex Rider. Highly recommended.

Customer reviews I Spy Two Eyes: Numbers in Art by .. Karen E. Kowalski (Coldwater, Michigan United States) My 21 month old loves this book. I have read it to him at least 4 times a day since we received it. Intruduces baby to the world of art while also helping him to count. The repetativness of counting outloud helps to to already identify his numbers.
Great intro to art by .. () This is a terrific book for the preschooler and young school age child. They will enjoy hunting for the items in the pictures (For example, I spy six ducks.) and will enjoy viewing the fine art. The pictures selected are clear and engaging for children and my kindergarten students have enjoyed making their own "I Spy Two Eyes" books.
Loved This Book by .. apoem (Bosque Farms, NM USA) Wonderful book. Great art work and a neat way to help kids learn to count. Would love to see more along these lines.

Product Description This newest addition to a long list of quality chart books chronicles the history of those singles that almost, but never quite, reached the top of the Billboard charts. Citing every hit that placed number two since 1955, the book details each artist's or single's individual history. Fans will remember such classics as "Blueberry Hill" (Fats Domino), "Dancing in the Street" (Martha Reeves and the Vandellas), "Burning Love" (Elvis Presley), and "Y.M.C.A." (Village People), and more recent biggies "Material Girl" (Madonna), "My Lovin" (En Vogue), and "It's So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday" (Boyz II Men). Customer reviews A good read but also annoying by .. The Poet (Minnesota) As a music lover, I bought this book to read about those songs that never quite made it to number 1. While the book is good and informative, the author at times got annoying in the way he wrote. One example is that he sometimes played off the song title or artist in his summary. At first, I thought it was humorous, but over time, it was overkill. Examples:
Fly Like An Eagle (Steve Miller): Steve Miller had hoped to see his hit "Fly Like An Eagle" soar to the top of the charts like his previous single, but instead it ended up with its wings clipped, having to settle for the runner up position.
Air Supply: But in 1990, the duo reconnected to put out additional albums. Their poor sales suggested that Air Supply had the wind taken out of its sales.
The author also consistantly uses the term "bubbling under" for any song that couldn't quite make the Top 100, instead stopping at 101 or 102. Using different terms or ideas other than "bubbling under" every single time would have made it more enjoyable to read.
almost all you didnt know you wanted to know by .. Tore Vik (Oslo, Norway) the consept of giving the number 2s their due credit is good enough, and the stories and facts make for great reading and entertainment - in addition to serving several trivia purposes. Improvement for the next issue must be pictures of all the artists - we know how they sang, now we also no why - but how did they look in their day?
Still - a great book!
Christopher Feldman vs Joel Whitburn by .. Charles R. Mackley (Hanover, PA United States) They both can't be right.......I'm disappointed. I randomly
checked a few songs, The Great Pretender by the Platters, and
Ain't That A Shame by Pat Boone, Feldman says they peaked at
Number 2 and Whitburn said Number 1. However the verbage is
interesting which is why I gave it any rating at all....Problem is, is that data called into question since the Billboard position is flawed. I've invested in a bunch of Joel Whitburn's books so I guess I stay with him,
and I have no way of independently verifying either author. arrrghhhhhhh
okay for chart thinking people by .. Jerry McDaniel (Leesburg, OH USA) #1 isn't everything, neither is #2, #3, #4, and on down the chart. if a person likes a song, they don't care what chart peak it reached. but, this book is a fascinating study of major hits that people assume hit #1 but didn't. the author also highlights the singles at the top that kept the #2 single from reaching #1. This isn't a Joel Whitburn book so there's nothing obscure or exhaustive...only a list of #2 singles and a few pages of artist achievements. LeAnn Rimes holds the record for the #2 single with the most longevity on the Hot 100: 69 weeks and 3,000,000 copies sold. on the back of the book is says that the author is a passionate music fan and record collector who at the time lived in Iowa.
Feldman is Fantastic by .. Stefanie (Eagan, MN United States) I think that the careful consideration of the facts and the excellent presentation of the information is a wonderful combination. Chris has done a fabulous job of showing how 2nd best isn't anything to be ashamed about. People get blind-sided by the #1's, but the #2's manage to stay in our hearts forever. Sometimes we're just not ready for them to be #1's. Sometimes timing and other circumstances prevent them from being #1, but it doesn't mean they're not good enough to be #1. Because we all know they are. So is Chris Feldman. Thank you for being #1 Chris.

Customer reviews Discover God and discover who you are! by .. Disciple Forever () This Bible study is perfect for both a group that is just getting to know one another and one that has been meeting long term. Each session is filled with scripture-based activities to help understand specific characteristics of God and how, by better understanding these attributes, our own thoughts and behaviors will change to reflect what God wants us to be like. Simple object lessons, along with scripture reading, reflection and life-application activities to carry out through the week (and being kept accountable by a partner!) all work together to make this Bible study a "must-have." God will continually remind you of what you talked about over and over!
Biblical study by a true man of God by .. K. Wood (Southside, AL United States) The introduction shares the gripping story of Bill Bright, a great man of God, and his desire to disciple believers. Books 1 and 2 offer studies of the character of God in light of God's ultimate plan to have an intimate relationship with each of His children. Book 1 reveals that God is all powerful, ever present, holy, absolute truth, love and merciful. Book 2 continues by studying God as all knowing, sovereign, righteous, just, faithful and never changing. The books are designed to be a small group study as particpants get together and experience the lesson together each week. My favorite part of each lesson is the "God's Character in Context" margin note. This paragraph offers leaders ways to help participants solidify understanding by applying what they have learned about God's character that week. Great study for new believers and those who have been friends of God for many years.
Want to Know God Better??? by .. Susan H. Lawrence (Illinois) I really didn't know much about Bill Bright, just the basics, until I read an article in REV! magazine recently. What a man of amazing faith! But what speaks more than his words are his actions, his life. This study is clarifying and challenging. If you take it seriously, you WILL know God better when you finish. What a great study for an individual, for a small group who wants to grow in the basics of their faith and relationship with God, or for a church wanting to really lay a strong foundation.

Product Description In the chilling sequel to The Wrong Number, Deanna and Jade receive an anonymous, threatening phone call--promising revenge--apparently from Farbeson, the murderer they accidentally called a year ago who is supposed to be in jail. Customer reviews Part One was better by .. Menchu Fernandez (Manila, Philippines) It has been a year after Deena and Jade were almost killed by Stanley Farberson. Also a year when they called a house on Fear Street and heard a murder. Deena and Jade start getting phone calls. Things that only Farberson knows.. Could it be really Farberson?
Well, this book deserves a three since the explanations done by the person responsible for the calls were lame. Scaring someone just because you are jealous? The car wasn't much explained. I must say that this book is like a roller coaster ride.
wrong number 2 by .. () This book is called Wrong Number 2 by R.L.Stine. I'm 11 years old in the 6th grade. I think people ages 11-13 would like this book. The book is about 3 kids going into a house looking for some money. But they find themselves downstairs in the basement. A man came in and lit a candle. Will they ever get out? I guess you will have to read the book to find out. I like scary stories. I liked the part when they were in the house in the basement. And when the man tried to run them over but they got away.
Wrong number#2 by .. () I loved the book Wrong Number#2. I am in the 6th grade and 11 years old. I think people ages 9-15 should read it. It is about two girls, Jade and Deena and these two boys Chuck and Farberson. Farberson got out of jail and went to go look for his hidden money. When he went to find it wasn't there. I love the book, it is a good book and at the end it is sad because someone dies. If you want to know how and who you will have to reed the book. And there is something scary. I did not like that part, you might. But the book was good. I hope you have fun with it.
