Product Description Providing a unique approach to learning the Code, the Illustrated Guide to the NEC uses highly detailed, technically accurate illustrations and visuals to break down and simplify the expanding volume and complexity of the 2008 National Electrical Code. By translating the sometimes vague, complicated wording of the Code into straightforward illustrations and clear explanations, this book provides a resource that will facilitate comprehension and application of Code requirements for beginning and master electricians alike. Material is organized logically, covering fundamental provisions first, and then grouping code requirements by the type of occupancy, beginning with one-family dwellings, and progressing on to multi-family, commercial locations, and special occupancies. This organization is not only logical but also reflects how information is needed when working in the electrical industry, better preparing readers for the real world. Its comprehensive coverage, innovative learning approach, and industry-based organization make this an indispensable supplement to the NEC, whether users need information on a specific area, or need to learn the Code from cover to cover. Peter H. Taylor (Dallas, Tx) This is a must have for anyone in the electrical field. My continuing complaint with the N.E.C. is that is seems like it is written by lawyers, instead of electricians. You need to take a course to understand how to retreive the information you are looking for. Without that it's time consuming and incomplete.
FLAT is better by .. T. Davis (Pacific Northwest USA) The NEC has gotten so large, that the ability to lay it flat while researching is really nice.
2008 NEC Code book Review by .. Sporte1111 (Olympia WA. USA) This book is essential to install electrical installations. It basically was created by the National Fire Protection Agency it explains how to install electrical systems so that you do not burn down the house or building down that you wire. It does not teach you how to be an electrician, but it does give you the basic guidelines legal guidelines as to how to install electrical systems. Sporte1111
What I needed, Price I wanted. by .. David K. Jacobs (Talala, OK USA) I needed this book for my required continuing education units to renew my license in the state of Oklahoma. The price was right, and if I had thought about it sooner (ha, ha) I would not have needed second day shipping and saved even more. Great product, great price.
Ordered Paperback got Looseleaf - Then Review Deleted by .. M. Morgan (Gresham, Oregon, United States) When I ordered paperback (bound as from publisher) and the book arrived looseleaf punched for a 3-ring binder, we didn't know until we opened it. I posted a review here to save others from the same problem but don't see it anymore. I know that Amazon will get a handle on all the different formats this book come in, and when tabs can be used. The info is available on the NFPA website so it should be easy.
I gave the 3-ring binder version to a buddy so now I want to buy AND RECEIVE the bound conventional paperback version but I can't get an answer from Amazon if the problem is corrected. I don't want to order again and get another looseleaf copy.

Rob Osborn (San Diego CA) I bought this book because of the hard cover. This book has pictures that give visuals to misleading codes to clear up confussion. It has a feel of a text book because it has sample question & answers and how the answer was found. This is a great book for everyone in the electrical field. Worth the extra money verses the soft cover.
I laughed, I cried by .. Ray Depew (Colorado) The NEC 2008 Handbook is a great book. It's the best non-addictive cure for insomnia since Benadryl. It's thick enough to be used as a pillow -- and yet, at the same time, its hard cover makes it an ideal lap table for working while commuting via bus or rail. It's heavy enough to be used as both a doorstop and a weapon of self-defense.
The story line is a little weak in places, and I don't think we'll ever see a movie version of it, but I predict that it will be invaluable to archaeologists 2000 years from now.
(Honestly, I'm not sure how to review a handbook for the National Electric Code, but I can say that the explanatory text and accompanying illustrations make the Code do a good job of explaining the Code and, hopefully, making it easier to remember.)
Handbook is a usefull tool by .. Eric Lewis (Madison, Wisconsin) The NEC Handbook is a large book that won't fit into your toolbox but it is a good reference and project planning resource. I found the explanations to be clear and, in my case as an occasional electrician, apropos for my objectives. The graphics and use of color in diagrams adds to the quality experience when using the book. Eric R. Lewis, Ph. D.
Great Book by .. A. Gunraj (Sliver Spring, MD USA) I bought this book for my class. This book contains the latest standards in the electrical industry. The pictures in the book also give you a head start on working with circuits.
NEC 2008 Handbook by .. M. Ross (Midwestern USA) This is not a book for the average do-it-yourself. It is, however, the Bible for professional and apprentice electricians, engineers, professional inspectors, and construction professionals who design, build, maintain, and approve residential, commercial, industrial and agricultural electrical systems.
If you are just looking to remodel your bathroom you don't need to buy this book---though you may want to refer to it. If you are making a living in the construction trades, then this book is an essential part of your toolbox.

H. Perez (NY) I just purchased this handbook and I would say that it is worth the money. It is not a replacement to the IEEE NESC but a very important reference material. This book has excellent drawings and pictures to expound on the various subjects. I like it very much and I would recommend it to anyone who is involved in the operation, engineering, and maintenance work on any electric utility facilities. Of course, NEC and NESC can't be compared.
Negative Review is Mistaken by .. Sean (Austin, TX United States) I have not read this book, but I noticed the first review bashes it because he wants practical-wiring NEC regulations. The NESC addresses design requirements up to the service point, and does not deal with "how-to" regulations beyond the service point (which are covered seperately by the NEC). His review is simply inapplicable.
Boothe is mistaken by .. philipshelt (cincinnati, ohio) The previous reviewer (Boothe) is greatly mistaken about the purpose and quality of this book. Although i do not own this edition, previous editions have always been excellent. Apparently he did not realize that the National Electrical Safety Code is specifically written for utility workers, lineman, substation maintenance and construction, power generation etc. The National Electrical Code is the designated code for non-utility wiring. To rate this publication poorly because HE mistook its purpose is grossly unfair to the many talented authors of this handbook.
National Electrical Safety Code Handbook-2007 by .. Boothe () This book sucks! It is not at all what I thought it was! This book is for linemen, who needs information about pole-line construction? Not Me! I need informatin on the National Electrical Code! A greater detail of the chapters in the book would have been very helpful. I oredered the National Electrical Code Handbook from the National Fire Protection Agency just to insure I will get what I truley need!

Product Description The National Electrical Code® is an internationally accepted safety code for electrical and power wiring. It specifies the minimum provisions necessary for protecting people and property from hazards arising from the use of electricity and electrical equipment. Anyone involved in any phase of the electrical industry must be aware of how to use and apply the Code on the job. It undergoes a rigorous review and revision process every 3 years by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). This book is a trusted resource for understanding and applying the Code®. Customer reviews Mc Partland Handbook by .. Jupiter Figuera (Cumana, Venezuela) One of the best books on the NEC. However I think figures should be better drawn. This would make the book more attractive to first time readers. One of the best things is that it explains the whys of many topics of the NEC.
Best handbook on the market by .. C. Pratt (Tulsa) I have always found McPartland's handbook the only one worth having. The handbooks published by NFPA are in my opinion worthless because they are written for people with limited intelligence. The NFPA handbook really just states the obvious.
McPartland's book has always been good because he goes into the background to explain why the crazy things are in the NEC to begin with along with all of the nuances necessary for interpretations. When he retired from EC&M magazine that publication went down hill and I don't even read it anymore. Joe was the backbone of that pub. I've been in this business as an engineer since 1971. My first McPartland book was his 17th edition that covered the 1981 NEC.
NEC Handbook by .. R. Staie () The Mcgraw NEC Handbook is as good or better than the NFPA book. Easy to use and understand.
