The Feeling Good Handbook 4 by .. Belinda Padron (Duluth, GA USA)
I definately would recommend this book, I love it. I have not finished it as of yet, but it definately has tought me a lot about myself and other people and definately how to communicate a lot better. Personally I dont think that this book should be geared towards depression because it is SOOOOOO much more than that.

Truly helpful 5 by .. B Flynn (Scottsdale, AZ)
I won't write a novel here, but I wanted to say a few things about this book. I have started countless self-help books over the years, only to get bored and never finish them. This is the first one that I have read cover to cover and it has made the most sense to me. Many of the situations and case studies he describes relate directly to me, and it made me feel like I was not alone in my self-esteem issues. A few times I was overcome with emotion, feeling like for the first time, someone truly understood how I felt, that I was not the only person in the world who processed thoughts this way, and was there to help me make changes that would improve my quality of life.

I highly recommend this workbook version (there is a regular book), as the exercises make all the difference if you take the time to do them. I can't say I'm a totally new person, but my way of thinking and perceiving has altered for the better. It's a long process...a ship doesn't turn on a dime in the ocean. This is an excellent place to start.

Try it, and take the first step to a better life.

Feeling Better 4 by .. RNT (Memphis, TN USA)
I had read this book years ago in a different version. At the time, I found it a very helpful point of view. Now cognitive therapy is not so new and I am accustomed to realizing that my attitude toward unfortunate situations are in my control, whether the situation is or not. The exercises are helpful to put your events in perspective. Even if you think you know the things that are suggested, putting your own problems on paper and practicing the steps, is more enlightening than you might expect. If you have not encountered cognitive therapy before, this book, the ideas that are outlined, and the exercises, if you will do them, are essential for your well-being. You may not feel "good," but I bet you will feel "better."

Depression be gone! 5 by .. Christina M. Zarbaugh-Brown (Texas)
I bought this for myself over a year ago and cannot say enough good things about it (this purchase was for a dear family member). This book has opened up my eyes and the dark clouds that surrounded me for years...

Feeling Good Workout Book 4 by .. W. M. Pidwerbecki (Rancho Cordova, ca usa)
If you just want to read "Feeling Good", do not buy this handbook version of the book.

The author uses imperative statements and not so subtle naratives to coerce the reader into doing the exercises. The objective... teach in simple practical terms Cognitive Behavioral Therapy methods for reprogramming out thinking.

Plan to read a few pages and then work on some exercises and ponder over your beliefs and values.

This is not a book for speed reader rabbits. It is more for the the thoughtful, consistent tortoise.

Please read this 5 by .. John Secor (Troy, OH)
Dr. Burns challenges us up front with a notion: we can change the way we feel if we change the way we think.

If you follow through on the "Feeling Good Handbook" you'll have little room to disagree with him. Dr. Burns' thorough review of mental fallacies should force you to retreat to complete self cognitive analysis.

If you make an concerted effort to apply what Dr. Burns' suggests. you should notice a difference in every day life.

This is a book that requires more than one read. To completely absorb and then apply what he recommends in one reading would be impossible. Keep it on a shelf within near reach.

One of the best self-help books on the market today! 5 by .. ()
This book is excellent. It uses time proven cognitive therapy principles and lists them in an easy to understand and use format. This book is a must for all readers. The money you save verses seeing a therapist makes it a great bargin. I'm not saying it should replace your therspist. But it follows cognitive therapy to a tee--it helps to teach you to become your own therapist

Product Description

A recipe book for feelings. What's that?Do you get tongue-tied? Do you often forget your words just as they are at the tip of your tongue? Do you know people who are "closed books" and never verbalize what they are feeling?Words. Somehow, they seem to be trapped within us. I'll bet you have felt bottled up with excitement, worry, or deep sadness and wished you could say in concrete terms what lay within your heart. Why is it so difficult to bridge feelings and thoughts and place them into simple language? As a therapist, I have observed people who live in silence, or who communicate ineffectively what they really feel. This is not a reflection of intelligence - it is often a lack of knowledge of emotional language and how to use it.. Simply, people do not know the words to say which truly expresses thier inner voice or present frame of mind.Do You Get the Feeling began as a pet project. I wondered, could I create a language that would be useful for others? Could I hand someone a choice of emotional writings and have them identify thier feelings? I closed my eyes, attempted to transport myself into other people's lives and experience what they had gone through. My pet-project soon blossomed into 150 compilations of rich emotions.Do You Get the Feeling is a smorgasbord of 150 emotional scripts which can be easily implemented with cognitive behavioral techniques. It is a valuable tool for the clinician, educator, counselor, drama teacher, ESL instructor and anyone who enjoys being in touch with that softer side of themselves. It is my hope that these write-ups will be a springboard to strengthen communication between friends, spouses, parents and children, and ultimately, open a world of self-expression to the reader.

Amazed 5 by .. Rena (Maryland, USA)
This text is incredible in its ability to be read and appreciated by a broad range of readers. Frong young to old, teacher, therapist, mother or daughter, there is something in here for everyone. Something for any given moment. The talent that is prominently displayed in this book is unique. The fact that so many audiences can enjoy it in a variety of ways is proof positive of Ms. Rabbergs ability to convey emotinos into words. The graphics of this book make using it so simple and pleasant.

As an experienced special education teacher, I have had many experiences in which students could not express their feelings. This book is the perfect tool for me to use to help my students understand and express their feelings. The degree to which their emotional needs are met parallels their educational success. I highly recommend this book for anyone who is looking for a well designed tool of this nature. You will be amazed at the richness it beholds and be very satisified with your results.

A unique compilation 5 by .. Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA)
Just as there is a verbal language, so there is a nonverbal language of emotions and feelings. Being able to read and articulate feelings is as critical to a successful and satisfying personal or professional relationship as being able to 'talk things out'. A licensed clinical social worker, Celia Rabberg draws upon her many years of experience and expertise in "Do You Get The Feeling?: A Handbook To Facilitate Emotional Awareness And Communication" to identify and illustrate 150 ways of expressing oneself. Each of the individual emotional qualities cited and ranging from responsible, to antisocial, to awkward, to desperate, to peaceful, to lonely, are represented with a one-page entry in the form of free verse poetry. A unique compilation, "Do You Get The Feeling?" is an especially recommended supplemental reference for ESL teachers, counselors, clinicians, caregivers, and drama teachers working with children, students, and adults in helping them to identify, understand, and articulate the vast spectrum of human feelings.

A very good and helpful book 5 by .. Reader Views (Austin, Texas)
Reviewed by Casey Holt (age 14) for Reader Views (3/08)

I thought this was a very good and helpful book. I used it kind of like a diary. At the end of each day, or if I felt a really strong emotion at that moment, I would open up "Do You Get The Feeling?" and flip to the table of contents, looking for feelings that fit me; then, I would then read the poem, see how it related to me, and circle or underline certain sentences that I felt STRONGLY about. Then I would put the date under the "notes" space.

I think that this book could help anyone, any age. A parent could use it with a very small child, maybe not actually READING the poem, but to help the child identify their feelings and emotions, possibly writing a poem with the child? Teens and adults could use this book alone or with a group. I showed it to my parents, and they thought it was very interesting as well. I am still working on the "Create your own poem." I am sure that I will use this book in the future a lot. I hope that everyone can get a chance to have this book, "Do You Get The Feeling."
