N.E.C. code 2008 5 by .. Peter H. Taylor (Dallas, Tx)
This is a must have for anyone in the electrical field. My continuing complaint with the N.E.C. is that is seems like it is written by lawyers, instead of electricians. You need to take a course to understand how to retreive the information you are looking for. Without that it's time consuming and incomplete.

FLAT is better 4 by .. T. Davis (Pacific Northwest USA)
The NEC has gotten so large, that the ability to lay it flat while researching is really nice.

2008 NEC Code book Review 5 by .. Sporte1111 (Olympia WA. USA)
This book is essential to install electrical installations. It basically was created by the National Fire Protection Agency it explains how to install electrical systems so that you do not burn down the house or building down that you wire. It does not teach you how to be an electrician, but it does give you the basic guidelines legal guidelines as to how to install electrical systems. Sporte1111

What I needed, Price I wanted. 5 by .. David K. Jacobs (Talala, OK USA)
I needed this book for my required continuing education units to renew my license in the state of Oklahoma. The price was right, and if I had thought about it sooner (ha, ha) I would not have needed second day shipping and saved even more. Great product, great price.

Ordered Paperback got Looseleaf - Then Review Deleted 1 by .. M. Morgan (Gresham, Oregon, United States)
When I ordered paperback (bound as from publisher) and the book arrived looseleaf punched for a 3-ring binder, we didn't know until we opened it. I posted a review here to save others from the same problem but don't see it anymore. I know that Amazon will get a handle on all the different formats this book come in, and when tabs can be used. The info is available on the NFPA website so it should be easy.

I gave the 3-ring binder version to a buddy so now I want to buy AND RECEIVE the bound conventional paperback version but I can't get an answer from Amazon if the problem is corrected. I don't want to order again and get another looseleaf copy.

Top Quality and consistant 5 by .. Peter Walker (Southern California USA)
As usual the book is top quality and invaluable in my profession. Peter Walker, Building Inspector 22 years.

A Must Have 5 by .. S. Koepper (Long Island, NY)
Excellent knowledge base for the DIY and pro. This series of books will show you everything you need to know to do it right the first time and pass those crucial inspections.

I can't follow the format 1 by .. M. Leitch ()
The book is awful. I cannot follow the format and don't understand what they are trying to communicate. There are a few bits of helpful information - but overall this book will do nothing for me. The "cute" drawings and jokes are not appropriate for a reference on electrical codes. And why dedicate so much space the the history of electricity?

Don't waste your money. Go with something professionally prepared. This flipbook was not.

Outdated Material 2 by .. Ricardo Zelaya (Orlando, FL USA)
This book is mostly general information. Many of the figures do not identify the wires e.g. hot, neutral, ground. The section on Grounding is many years out of date, and would present an electrical hazard if followed. Most modern homes nowadays use PVC piping thus rendering all this advice on this page useless and dangerous for the layman. Because plumbers use nonconductive material to make connection watertight, using pipes for electrical ground is outright dangerous. Do not use this book because some advice is good, but some is not. Not knowing what advice is the good one may put your life in danger.

Useful in spite of itself 3 by .. ()
If the purchaser actually needs to know the UBC reference numbers, they will need to do some searching, because all too often the Section number cited in the Code Check series isn't correct. I do not have a copy of the International Building Code so I can not judge how the actual references correspond to the citations listed here, but one wonders how the authors could get the UBC citations so wrong, so often.

Because the Code Check series cover residential applications of the Code quite well, I suggest it be used as a study aid for Code Students. Because the surface is designed to be erased many times without leaving ghosts, the student will need to make paper copies. If the sudent goes thru the lists, they should mark down the actual section references on the copy. When the student is finished, he or she will have a good idea of what the code requires for residences and how to use the UBC (or the California Building Code) to locate those requirements in the code.

Greatest Code Book! 5 by .. Rob Osborn (San Diego CA)
I bought this book because of the hard cover. This book has pictures that give visuals to misleading codes to clear up confussion. It has a feel of a text book because it has sample question & answers and how the answer was found. This is a great book for everyone in the electrical field. Worth the extra money verses the soft cover.

I laughed, I cried 5 by .. Ray Depew (Colorado)
The NEC 2008 Handbook is a great book. It's the best non-addictive cure for insomnia since Benadryl. It's thick enough to be used as a pillow -- and yet, at the same time, its hard cover makes it an ideal lap table for working while commuting via bus or rail. It's heavy enough to be used as both a doorstop and a weapon of self-defense.

The story line is a little weak in places, and I don't think we'll ever see a movie version of it, but I predict that it will be invaluable to archaeologists 2000 years from now.

(Honestly, I'm not sure how to review a handbook for the National Electric Code, but I can say that the explanatory text and accompanying illustrations make the Code do a good job of explaining the Code and, hopefully, making it easier to remember.)

Handbook is a usefull tool 5 by .. Eric Lewis (Madison, Wisconsin)
The NEC Handbook is a large book that won't fit into your toolbox but it is a good reference and project planning resource. I found the explanations to be clear and, in my case as an occasional electrician, apropos for my objectives. The graphics and use of color in diagrams adds to the quality experience when using the book. Eric R. Lewis, Ph. D.

Great Book 4 by .. A. Gunraj (Sliver Spring, MD USA)
I bought this book for my class. This book contains the latest standards in the electrical industry. The pictures in the book also give you a head start on working with circuits.

NEC 2008 Handbook 4 by .. M. Ross (Midwestern USA)
This is not a book for the average do-it-yourself. It is, however, the Bible for professional and apprentice electricians, engineers, professional inspectors, and construction professionals who design, build, maintain, and approve residential, commercial, industrial and agricultural electrical systems.

If you are just looking to remodel your bathroom you don't need to buy this book---though you may want to refer to it. If you are making a living in the construction trades, then this book is an essential part of your toolbox.

Some good some useless 3 by .. Raymond C (Lancaster, PA United States)
Some good reference material (it is only 30 pages). Some of it references NEC which means you are lost unless you have code book available. The 4th edition is for the 2005 code. Good chart for conduit fill. Not sure how much the page on swimming pool lighting gets used.

Outstanding Reference 5 by .. Randy ()
I am not an electrician but as a licensed builder and home inspector I find the various Code Check's (electrical, plumbing, HVAC, etc) to be outstanding references, and the illustrations are a great help. Contrary to another rating comment, all the Code Checks I have do identify the particular code and year, either on the front cover or in the introduction. Anyone who pounds a nail or shops the electrical section at the local "big box" store should have copies of Code Check. Homeowners are notorious for saying (especially with electrical repairs) "Well that's the way my father taught me." Times and codes have changed and Code Check will keep you up to date and SAFE.

Great info 5 by .. Arlene D. Odom (Mukilteo, WA United States)
Excellent information. I also liked the hard cover pages to keep from getting damaged. Very easy to understand also.

A great resource, ONLY. 3 by .. Tim Fan (Walnut, CA United States)
All these code check books are excellent resources for contractors and field inspectors.
However, I am very disappointed about the fact that Code Check never puts down what version of code book referenced. Instead, they simply put "updated to the latest version of xxx code"
As we all know, every State adopts a new code every few years (typically 3 years).
HOW AM I SUPPOSE TO KNOW IF THE CODE CHECK IS CURRENT IF THEY DON'T TELL US WHICH CODE IS IT BASED ON ?
This product is getting 3 stars from me because without knowing which code it's referenced, it's no different than any "build a safe house" for DIYers, which we already have tons of these laying around in any hardware store.
If Code Check takes the time, compare and update their content concurrent with the code updates, then it's worth 6 stars.

N.E.C. tabs 5 by .. Peter H. Taylor (Dallas, Tx)
This is a great help in locating chapters and topics that you are researching. It would be difficult to use the N.E.C. without them. I highly recommend them.

Great tabs 5 by .. Echosyn (Dallas)
Tabs are well constructed, but if you use your code book a lot the thin pages might tear at the tab edges. I prevent this by applying a short strip of quality clear tape across the tab attatchment area.

NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODE 2008 TABS 5 by .. CAJUNN (HOUSTON, TEXAS)
THESE TABS WILL TRULLY SAVE YOU A LOT OF TIME. THE HANDBOOK IS ONE OF THE THICKEST BOOKS I OWN AND THE TABS SURE MAKE IT A LOT SIMPLIER WHEN YOU NEED TO FIND A CERTAIN SECTION. NOT SURE WHAT THE OTHER REVIEWS ARE REFERENCING, SEEMS PRETTY CLEAR TO ME WHAT I BOUGHT.

NEC Code book 5 by .. Marvin C. Smith (Las Cruces,N.M.)
I thought I was ordering a paperback book,I received a looseleaf book.I don`t know if the mistake is mine or a misprint.I do know that thr NEC Tabs are not a CD Rom, they are sticky back tabs that stick to the page to locate articles in the book quicker.I`m pretty sure I saw "paperback"and I don`t recall seeing "looseleaf".In either case bold print identifying paperback or looseleaf would be most helpfull.

Mislabeled Title Description 5 by .. Alexander S. Kish (Sunapee, NH USA)
Yes the product title is incorrect, but the rest of the description is absolutely correct. It should be obvious to even the most casual observer that the tabs go into the book - as the "better together" section clearly shows. There are many other sources for these items that do describe them properly, but be prepared to pay more.

So here's the choice: Pay less and be infinitely irritated that Amazon made a small, insignificant listing error out of the billions of listings they have, or buy it for more money elsewhere, but be content in the knowledge that the description was correct.

Sheesh.

Great seller! Got it on time! 5 by .. Charles M. Hogge (Chesapeake, VA)
This book was half the price and in the exact same condition as a new one. I was very satisfied with all of the aspects of buying products online. I would buy from this seller again with no hesitation.

nice one, amazon 5 by .. Roy T. Avery ()
Amazon is just lame sometimes. I've been asked to write a review of this book. Review the NEC? Uh, ok. I'm an electrician, so I guess I really like the NEC. There you go, Amazon.

NEC 2005 Softcover version 5 by .. John Brown (New Jersey, USA)
The Softcover version of the National Electrical Code 2005 is a must have reference for all Journeyman and Master Electricians. It is an essential tool for any students who are studying for a State License Exam.

How do you rate a code book? 5 by .. Brian T. Kinard (Newberry, SC United States)
The picture of the book I ordered looks exactly like the one that I received. Amazing! It actually has the NEC codes on the inside of the book which is exactly the reason I bought it. It is a really pretty book with lots of information.

I wish I had bought this years ago... 5 by .. Douglas H. Haden (Ridgecrest, CA United States)
I'm not an electrician so the price of the NEC delayed my buying a copy for too many years. I hunted for answers in forums and other web sources. (For advanced home improvers, Rex Cauldwell's excellent Wiring a House (For Pros by Pros) is a wonderful resource.)

I bought the spiral-bound edition 2005 National Electrical Code Spiralbound & Turbo Tab Set.

The 2005 NEC is as readable as and better than some codes. I recommend some highlighters and the 2005 NEC Tabs.

Millers Illustrated Guide to the NEC: Based on the 2005 National Electrical Code is a somewhat pricy but helpful companion. The coordinated descriptions and illustrations make the Code take on real-world meaning. There are almost no illustrations in the NEC.
