Customer reviews I'm not proud. I needed help. I found it here. by .. Miz Ellen (Bovine Universe) Last summer, I bought a new laptop with Windows Vista. Although I was able to fumble out transfering files back and forth with my desktop that was still on XP, I became highly frustrated by the new interface in the MSWord program. Very simple things had been made hard to find, I felt.
My pleasure in my new machine was gravely hampered until I bought this book at my local brick and mortar bookstore, paying more for it than I had to--but it turned out to be worth the money. I easily found the section I needed from the table of contents and in five minutes, armed with an understanding of how the software worked, I was able to do everything I could do before. In addition, I am aware of the capabilities of the new program. I no longer hate Vista. My stress level is down and once again, I am as happy with my new laptop as I was when I took it out of the box.
Based on past experience with computer manuals, I might never need to look at this book again. But having it ready to hand makes me confident that I shall never have to waste time trying to guess where Vista keeps a function I need.
I want to praise the author and publisher of this valuable series for making it easy for me to find and go straight to the information that I needed. My caution for potential purchasers of the book is obvious--there is much in this book that I didn't use or look at so this review is based on partial knowledge. But life is too short to spend too much time with computer instruction manuals--this book lets you take what you need and does so in clear language so that a single reading is enough. Based on my experience, I recommend this book to all the Vista-haters out there. Quit hatin' and start relatin'!
Vista by the Numbers by .. NTS (San Antonio) Compared to the old Windows XP Home Bestseller Edition (Que) encyclopaedic treatment, this Vista tutorial is superb. It is clear, but does not not insult one's intelligence. I was able to start at Page 1 and absorb knowledge, and RETAIN it, as I studied, or sometimes scanned, my way through.
Way basic book by .. Allen D. Yoder (Dallas, TX) Book is strictly for beginners and really does not cover the difference between behavior in previous windows operating systems and Vista. IMHO it should.
Not worth it by .. Andrea T () I purchased this book to learn my way around Vista. I didn't think it was worth the money. It was more like a Welcome to Windows beginner book. I haven't found anything on here that has been helpful in my Vista experience. Much easier to just research online....
Windows Vista for Dummies by .. Virginia J. Dolder (Gainesville, FL) Windows Vista for Dummies is just what I needed to allow me to, "step by step" transfer from my old program to my new computer... I am not dumb but I do enjoy following instructions, step-by-step, written with a little humor...
Thanks,
Virginia J. Dolder

Peter M. K. Gaines () I like the book, but wish it were less repetitive. I think that Andrew Tobias' book, The Only Investment Guide You'll Ever Need, is more succint. I wish that he would update it given the new state of the economy. 3-4 years makes a huge difference in tax laws.
Great book by .. C. Lavelle (Indiana) Ok...so I'm a smart guy, but the in's and out's of the financial world always seemed more like Harry Potter's dark arts class than something that would ever make sense to me. I'm happy to report that this book does a fantastic job laying it all out in a way that makes perfect sense. I now have greater confidence in assessing my financial options, which is all anyone really needs. I recommend this book strongly.
Good Book - Can't wait to pass it on by .. Marcia D. Perry (Los Angeles) This is such a great book, I will probably by a copy for my eighteen year old sister. The book provides valuable information that is valuable at any age, but even better if she can learn now. Great practical tips on debt management, saving, budgeting retirement, etc.
Great tool for personal purposes. by .. Sofi (Puerto rico) It's just amazing. Every other theme not too well understood is explained with clarity. Website references are a plus. If you have no idea of most financial concepts, what they mean and how to understand them this is a good starter tool.
Personal Finance for Dummies by .. browneyedgirl () Thought the book brought things to light I knew that I was in trouble this book just made me see more clearly how to try to fix things.

Customer reviews Ok for Beginners by .. Tracy L. Needham (Raleigh, NC) I actually returned this book, which I don't do often. I was hoping it would be more like Office 2003 Timesaving Techniques for Dummies, which doesn't seem to have a 2007 version yet, but was very basic. And it doesn't address Business Contact Manager at All.
Granted, it's trying to cover a lot of ground in one book. But if you're pretty proficient with Office programs, you may not learn much. It would have been more useful if it at least had a section that discusses all the changes between the 2 versions.
Office 2007 8 in 1 by .. Christopher K. Boggs (Texas) As all the Dummy books it is well written, supplies a large amount of infromation in a simple no nonsense form.
office 2007 for dummies by .. Cheryl Ingram (LA) The product has very basic information. I purchased the book to find out how to do many things within Office Outlook and the information was simply not there. I was looking to learn how to manage and update my "Archive Folder" it didn't have the information available. Disappointing based upon the cost.
Office 2007 All-in-One Desk Reference For Dummies by .. Dennis Mcfarland (Winslow, AZ United States) AWESOME BOOK I couldn't have found a better one. Easy to read and great instructions.
Dennis aka drdenny
Excellent Beginner Book by .. A. Decker (Vancouver, Washington United States) Readable, useful, humorous. I knew Word and Excel 2003 and needed to upgrade those to 2007 and learn Access and Outlook from start. This book would get you from no knowledge to being able to use the four programs I read about. It doesn't cover advanced topics - how to duplicate Access entries and make changes in the duplicate, for example - but you'll be ready to understand a more advanced guide.

Customer reviews Very enlightening book for a real economic dummy by .. Pokey (PA, USA) This book has taught me a lot about economics. I was a true economic dummy before reading it, but I now have a solid grasp on the basics of economics.
Anyhow, the book covers a lot of different economic subjects, such as microeconomics, macroeconomics, property rights, interest rates, supply and demand, the Federal Reserve, and much more. Each chapter goes into adequate depth of the material being covered. The book is written in layman's terms so that it is easy digested and understood.
I definitely recommend buying this book. I learned a lot from it.
The only reason I did not give the book five stars is because the author occasionally likes to portray his biased opinions as fact. It is a slight tarnish on an outstanding book.
Economics for Dummies by .. Eric H. Smith () I thgought this was a very informative book. For such a tough subject matter, the author kept you interested. This book teaches you the nuts & bolts of economics so you can now form your own opinion. Word of caution....have a fresh mind when going over graphs & charts....you need to understand these !
superior primer by .. Steven Becker (New Jersey) This is the best primer on basic economics I've ever read. Masaki writes with tremendous clarity. As promised, every concept covered--always clearly and with admirable thoroughness--is accompanied by relevant, illuminating real-life examples. The book is a treasure for anyone wanting to discover the world of economics.
Good stuff... by .. Mrs. G. L. Booth (UK) Haven't read it all yet but its well written and funny so far.
Think I will learn a lot from it.
Great book..very easy to understand by .. G. Carr () Economics can be a very complex subject, but this book does a great job of breaking it down into very easy to understand language. The author starts by explaining the basics of economics, both macro and micro, and then gives real world examples that allow you to understand what he just explained. Every person who has a job or has investments should know something about basic economics and this book will make that very easy. Who knows you might even be able to see trends coming before they hit and be able to make proper ajustments in your finances to protect yourself and your family.

Product Description "A gold mine of insight on the Catholic faith for people of all ages and beliefs." —Prof. Charles E. Rice, Notre Dame School of Law and Visiting Prof., Ave Maria School of Law Explains the deadly sins and cardinal virtues Get the scoop on the Catholic Church’s stand on important social issues Want to know more about Catholicism? Catholicism For Dummies presents the rich tapestry and history of the Catholic Church – from devotions to doctrines. You’ll find a description of the Catholic Mass, the seven sacraments, the liturgical calendar, the duties of the clergy, and much more. Praise for Catholicism For Dummies "Catholicism For Dummies is an intelligent and faithful look at one of the more misunderstood topics in contemporary religion." – Michael S. Rose, author of Goodbye, Good Men, Priest, and Ugly as Sin Customer reviews great overview by .. C. Rogers (MO) This is a fantastic book to give you an overview of Catholicism. I am not Catholic, but a lot of my in-laws are, and having sat through a lot of masses I was very curious to understand more. This book did the trick. Things are explained in a very clear way, and the authors never belittle other religions. The authors periodically went over the same material repeatedly, ie. sometimes the same facts were given in various chapters. I liked that, as it make it all sink in more. I'd recommend this book to anyone looking for a place to start to learn more.
As for why only 4 stars, consider these sentences, from page 109 talking about confirmation: "It's an unfortunate fact that after some are confirmed, they never come back for high school religious education. Human nature is such that some parental guidance, authority, and sometimes force are needed to get Johnny or Susie to fulfill their Sunday obligation." If that sounds a bit preachy, that's because, well, it is. But hey, the two authors are priests, and that's what they do. That kind of thing is kept to a minimum, but it is present.
Very useful! by .. YasVO () I'm a big fan of the Dummies series, so when I want to learn about something, I tend to lean toward picking up one of their books (among others). I'm Catholic, but there have always been some things that escaped me, and this book was helpful in explaining many of those things, and more. I'd still recommend picking up one of those books that specifically cover Mass in detail if some of the customs and actions have befuddled you. Peace be with you...!
Catholicism For Dummies by .. G. Hahne (South Dakota) My husband and I teach different ministries groups at our local Catholic Church and we use this book as a teaching source. It is very easy to understand especially for our elderly parishoners and teens. Alot of the parishoners have ordered this book for their own personal enrichment.
Catholocism for Dummies by .. C. Galeono () This book is very informative, and writen in an easy to read format. It has been a very long time since I've embarked on an in depth study of the Holy Roman Catholic faith I was blessed with at my infant baptism. I plan to pass it forward to others, like me, who wish to know more about their faith without needing a degreed theologan sitting down beside them. Thanks to the two good "Fathers" who wrote this book. It has been a real blessing to me.
Catholicism for Dummies by .. Jeffrey Boyea () Excellant book for anyone who is not a Catholic and "thinks" they know, oh so much, about Catholics and the heresies they think that they teach. It is also excellant for the Southern Baptists who view Catholics as non-christian (this is a prevalent view in the south).
It is also an excellant book for ALL Catholics for in it is a lot of information that they did not learn in catechism class.

Make Sure you Have Excel 7 before you buy by .. A. Mercer (Annapolis) I returned this book because in the opening pages, I read: "Do not buy this book if you have an older Excel on your machine or it will just confuse you." I have an older version, so it was no help.
book is good but program is a microsoft price gouge by .. George W. Towle () the 2007 programs create major problems in business organizations that have massive files in the 2003 version. the cost to convert is astronomical in comparison with the minor cost of the microsoft product.
EXCEL 2007 by .. AEF (OHIO) I have several of these books on different subjects and although it is a good training or reference book, I would have preferred VISUALS as they are much easier for me to follow. What I like about the DUMMY line, is the reading material is in simple terms and not that WAY OUT THERE technical terms that I doubt the real computer geeks even understand.

Note: CD-ROM/DVD and other supplementary materials are not included as part of eBook file. Customer reviews Good Buy by .. K. Dube (Ga, USA) This is a good book for guitar players who have some knowledge of the instrument. Even if it starts with the basics it is a good idea to know the basics before you buy this book. It is user friendly and has a good mix of theory and song playing.
Decent Jump-Start by .. Alex Rifman (Chicago, IL USA) I bought Guitar for Dummies among three different books for guitar beginners, and this one is in the middle of the pack. The attached CD is not useful at all, since it's entirely too fast to keep up with (particularly for a beginner). Another reviewer had stated that this book is good for a "camp counselor" and I agree. Basically, the book will teach you basic cords, and you will be comfortably putting cords together as accompaniment. I would recommend this book if you are just starting out, and want to learn basic cords ONLY. Also, the cord reference "cheat sheet" is very useful and is possibly the best part of the book.
good by .. Christopher Marquez () Perspnally not the book I wanted to start out with. But is very good either way.
Review by .. PenName (Martin TN,USA) Package arrived as stated in New condition, cd brand new / I find I am pleased with item. Like I always say, the ladies are gonna be lining up to talk to PeNName cuz I look gorgeous reading my Guitar for Dummies. It is very informative!!!
There's something to be said for brand loyalty by .. Brian Connors (Cape Cod, MA) I'm going to start right off by saying that no guitar book is going to teach everything in a way that everyone can benefit from. I used it to start myself off, and after laying down the guitar for several years I'm using it again to refresh my memory. It's good for me because I have ADHD and could never grasp sight reading; it's oriented to tablature and ear players, which makes it perfect for people like me. Although it touches on the basics of classical guitar, it is definitely NOT for someone already proficient in music theory. But that's why there's so many other guitar books on the market; the Hal Leonard Guitar Method, for example, provides for that market. There is nothing wrong with any of this.
That said, the necessities are all here. Not only is there information on both rhythm and lead guitar, but there is quite a lot of information on maintenance, guitar internals, trivia, and history. There's enough information on different styles of play to get you started on them and help you figure out where to go from there. That said, it's a perfectly reasonable choice for your first book on the subject, but don't be surprised if it's not the last, especially if it doesn't work for you. Such is the world of music education, and you still can't give up practice time.

Ampersand (Vancouver, BC) A very disappointing and useless book..Please dont waste your money on this book..It will teach you nothing about cameras or photography..This may have been the worst book I ever purchased, double period
Digital SLR Cameras & Photography by .. Chris J. Tofteberg (Anchorage, AK) Having recently gotten my first digital SLR, I thought "Digital SLR Cameras and Photography for Dummies" would be perfect for teaching me the basics of the digital SLR camera. I was right.
For those familiar with the "Dummies" series of books, the layout of "Digital SLR Cameras and Photography for Dummies" (I'll just call it the "book" from here on as the title is a bit long) will be very familiar. Useful tips and other notes can be found in the margins for quick reference. Even the ever-popular cheat sheet is included inside the front cover.
What I like about this book is that it covers everything from what the acronym "SLR" stands for (single lens reflex) to chromatic aberration (a discoloring issue). The digital SLR provides more creative freedom than a point-and-shoot camera does, and the book tells you exactly how to take advantage of these freedoms.
It would seem difficult to write a useful book about digital SLRs, since there are several models and brands out there. The book avoids this issue by discussing the functions of digital SLRs, which are pretty much the same across the board, and not necessarily which button does what. Although there is some of that too. Whether you're a Canon person or a Nikon person or other, you'll get the point.
A book with the word "Photography" in the title would seem to imply that there are plenty of photos inside, and that is true of this book. They are usefully tied to the concepts that the book discusses. When exposure is discussed, photos showing under, over and just-right exposure help explain what the text is saying.
This book is not just for digital SLR newbies. Many people that have digital SLRs may only use a fraction of the features that their cameras offer. For those folks, this book can open up more ways for them to use their cameras. For newbies, the benefits of reading this book are obvious.
I'm a fan of the "Dummies" books (which perhaps says something about me) and "Digital SLR Cameras and Photography" for Dummies did not disappoint. It is a must-read for anyone that is considering buying a digital SLR as well as new owners. All but the most experienced digital SLR users will find some benefit to reading "Digital SLR Cameras and Photography for Dummies."
Digital SLR Cameras & Photography for Dummies by .. Susn E. Perry (Utica NY USA) Digital SLR Cameras & Photography For Dummies (For Dummies (Computer/Tech))
is well designed to teach amatuers like me on the different features of an SLR camera. I have had my Nikon D50 for 2 years and get very good results, but still need to learn so much more. That is the reason for buying the Dummies book....to remember all the ins and outs of lenses, f stops, ISO's and so much more I can turn to my copy of the dummies book to look up the information I need.
Book, Camera, Action! by .. Ned Middleton (British professional underwater photo-journalist & author) The big attraction of this series of "for Dummies" books is that we who buy these products have little respect for our own knowledge and plenty of respect for those who do and are able to write books like this.
I am currently converting from film photography to digital photography and some aspects are quite daunting. I have, therefore, purchased several books and tutorial DVDs on the subject and am working my way through them all. The title of this product suggests it is the right place to start and, on reflection, is exactly where I should have started. For those of you, who like me, are converting to digital for the first time, grab your camera and a copy of this book and work your way through from cover to cover until you are conversant with the new technology. It really will give you a good grounding.
That, however, will only work very well if you are already conversant with photography. If you are new to photography altogether and a digital SLR camera is your very first camera, you may have to learn a few basic lessons of, for example, the correlation between film speeds, shutter speeds and aperture settings - which really do need to be understood, before you study this book.
David Busch clearly knows what he is talking about and is able to put that knowledge into an easy-to-follow format for us Dummies to read and, as I say, I wish I had read this book before getting into some of the more technical tomes I also purchased.
NM
Ignorance is Not Bliss by .. Richard Wirtz (Knoxville, TN USA) I wish I could comment without rating the book. My problem is, I wanted a primer on digital cameras, and I thought this was one. It's not, of course; it's about SLRs, whatever those may be. For a primer on digital cameras, I recommend the Quick Snap Guide to Digital Photography.

Definitely "for Dummies" by .. D. Dollahite (Long Island) I've read several "for Dummies" books, and in general the entire series is well written, concise, and gives you what you really need. However, I was very disappointed in this one. The book is really dedicated to the three methods of building wealth: equity (stocks, mutual funds, etc.), real estate, and small business. But there isn't enough info on any of the three subjects to do much with. You're better off getting a separate book on real estate if you plan on pursuing that. And nothing he says regarding small business is of much use to accomplish anything. That leaves stocks, bonds and mutual funds, which is what most users would purchase this book for. Regarding that, if you are completely new to mutual funds then this is the book for you as it will explain the basics. However, if you are beyond the very basics (i.e.; "What is a mutual fund?"), and are looking to seriously invest, then I think you'll be disappointed. And if you are looking to get into buying stocks directly, then this book seriously falls short. The entire section on stocks really just explains a canned stock report from a given company. Utterly useless unless you plan on subscribing to that service. No talk of forward PE's, valuation, etc.. Also, the author's continual insistence that you should stay in mutual funds because you "can't beat the market" since there are so many pros out there is utterly ridiculous. There are many gurus out there that have proven track records of generating higher than average returns. Just emulating Warren Buffet's portfolio will do that.
I was looking for a book to dig more into stock valuation, company analysis, etc. and this book barely even touched on any of that beyond definitions. I wouldn't even call it Finance 101, since there is very little about monetary policy, bonds, interest rates, etc.. If you've picked out at least one mutual fund in your life (or purchased a stock directly), then this book is way too simple. If you tremble at the thought of picking a mutual fund and have no financial sense whatsoever, then this is your book.
Very Good Book by .. Chandan Kumar (Chantilly, VA) I wanted to start investing and read somewhere you should first do some studies. That's when I came across this book. Very well written, and in simple to understand language. I used to dread 401K, IRA, Mutual Funds, Bonds. Now I am confident I know about them and what I am investing into.
Showed new ways to look at debts, as to if I clear my debt sooner, I am investing in something which gives be interest equal to the interest I pay the bank.
I would recommend this book to all who want to get into investing but are hesitant or don't know where to get information from.
Investing for Dummies by .. Deseret Rose (Las Vegas, NV USA) I bought this for my daughter, who is taking this a college course.
She seems to be happy with it. She asked for this book it as the instructor told her she needed it for the class. Sorry I can't give you more info but I am sure it's a good book.

Customer reviews Book is a Flop and not on par with other Dummies by .. E. Rodriguez (texas) I enjoy the Dummies series of books. This book has NOT helped. I find myself following the directions and then flipping through the pages to see where that final click takes place. There are too many, 'we will cover that on page #' or go to section __ to find out more about it...I would not buy this book.
Not for Dummies, but a good manual by .. John W. Kohler (Lakeland, Fl.) Unlike other Dummies books I have (Windows XP and Vista for Dummies), this is more like the manual that should have come with Adobe Photoshop Elements 7. It's not for people that have never used a photographic program before. It assumes you have some knowledge of digital enhancements. That being said, it's a very good manual and it's in color. It's a good desk reference. It's not meant to be read from cover to cover. After reading the first few chapters, you can use as a reference to get you over the hurtles you don't understand, give you some common sense tips, enlighten you on some things you probably didn't know, and give you some helpful short-cuts. All-in-all, a very useful manual to have, and the DVD is great to get you started even before you start and reading. Two thumbs up from me.
Great introduction by .. Joseph B. Cohen (Brooklyn, NY United States) Excellent introduction to Elements 7 and just what I've come to expect from this Dummies series. Just got Elements 7 and wanted/needed to get me going and let's see something now. In one-half hour I had my first photo edited. Not a wiz yet but give me another half-hour. Learned the interface, was able to easily follow the instructions. Good clear English and easy reading.
