Product Description The most informative guide to canine health and nutrition -- to lengthen and enhance the lives of your dogs. You want the best for your dogs, and this book shows you how to optimize your canine companions' physical and mental health. Dog Health & Nutrition For Dummies provides tips on canine nutrition, diet, and special food-related health problems (obesity, diabetes, etc.). Experts give you advice on exercise, recognizing and treating common maladies, and caring for the older dog. Plus, this friendly guide covers canine first aid, drugs, and alternative therapies. Customer reviews great on health & first aid, but lacking on nutrition by .. nic (los angeles, CA) first the bad: the nutrition aspect of this book a *really* lacking. while the author initially states that meat should be the base of any dogs meal, absolutely NONE of the recipes she includes have more than 30% meat (give or take). there is no mention of how to discern a good dry or canned food (if you want that try Dr. Pitcairn's books), and while I can understand her hesitation about raw diets, she completely fails to point out that common sense and basic hygeine can take care of a lot of those problems. in short, the nutrition sections were useless.
the good: the health and first aid sections are top rate and those make this book a must have for ANY dog owner. Luckily the bulk of the book covers these issues (the nutrition section is very small), and that makes this book a worth while purchase. one of the most useful things is a list of things that is included is a list of what to have in a pet first aid kit.
overall I'm only giving the book 3/5 stars because I feel that a book titled "health and nutrition" should thoroughly cover nutrition and this book just doesn't cut it. I highly recommend buying it used (which I did) and keeping it around just for the "health" information.
A good layperson's guide. by .. R. Bartis (North Carolina) I found this book to be very useful for the layperson. It's written in simple terms and the author has done a good job explaining the "basics" of dog health, including nutrition. It's hard to find a non-bias reference book on canine nutrition that's not endorsing a specific feeding "style".
Coming from an animal care background, I can easily recommend this book for anyone interested in learning more about caring for their furry friend.
Dog Health & Nutrition for Dummies by .. Sherri B (Crystal, MN USA) Overall a good book, although sometimes it is overly basic and at others lacks detail it does have a particularly good first aid section. It is well laid out, clear, and easy to read. Well worth the investment to have on hand as a reference. Definitely a good buy for the first time dog owner!
A must for dog owners by .. Luitgard M. K. Holzleg (Switzerland and United States) I reserached a while into various bokos on dog nurtriotn and health. the options I found were limitintg: one can purchase books for alrge sums on money giving me all kinds on information about rare diseases and symptoms or the opposite, very light and uncritical. this book is in the middle. It highlights the most important facts for both nutrition and health and whilst it does not go into too much detail, I feel that I would not be able to cope with that anyway and would need to refer to a veterinarian anyway. And this is from a "human" doctor, turned dog owner, where I would feel the same about a book on human health, too many details are too confusing and worrying for the reader.
A++ by .. () This book, is an very informative read. I love it. It gives in depth details on how to care for your dog. If i were you I would order it !!

Not so dummies by .. luisoncln (USA) Too much text for a dummie like me, id rather see more detailed pics. But nevertheless, good product over all.
Perfect title - just the basics, but the basics are done well by .. Scott Schiefelbein (Portland, Oregon United States) "Weight Training for Dummies" serves up just what it advertises - a comprehensive survey of the bare basics of weight lifting and training. Helpful explanations of various lifts, along with helpful illustrative pictures, offer the perfect entryway to a lifetime of weight lifting for the novice.
The problem is, not everyone is a complete novice when it comes to weight lifting. If you took weight lifting in high school or had a decent chat with someone at your gym, you already know 90% of what you're going to find in this book. One can't be too critical when you read a book on the basics and you get the basics, but in this instance the basics are *so* basic it would be nice if the authors put a toe into the water of more advanced techniques and, ideally, structured workouts.
That being said, if you're looking to get back into weightlifting after a long absence or pick it up for the first time, this is an excellent book, and much cheaper than a personal session with a trainer. Check it out.
Great resource for beginners and those who have "strayed" by .. Patrick Hafner (Twin Cities, Minnesota) Liz Neporent does a splendid job providing guidance for those new to weight training; the book describes strength training with weights from top to bottom. I especially think the emphasis on safety the book promotes is a worthwhile feature; weight training done wrong can be hazardous. I've been throwing barbells and dumbbells around for over 30 years, and I still picked up some good info from this title, mainly in the form of reminders. Even experienced fitness enthusiasts can get set in their ways; this book provides a good back-to-basics guide for seasoned jocks as well as an effective intro for those just getting started.
An excellent resource for complete beginners by .. Karin Norgard (Anchorage, Alaska, USA) This is the perfect book for someone who has never lifted weights before and is looking to start from the very beginning. It is never assumed that you know anything, which is perfect for the complete beginner. The book covers the most basic exercises for each muscle group, and provides basic information on these muscle groups, so that the beginner can become accustomed to putting together a basic program for the entire body. Once the beginner masters this, they will have all the building blocks needed to move on to more advanced programs, such as working on different groups on different days or doing supersets. If you are already familiar with the basics and are looking for more intermediate and advanced exercises and programs, try The Body Sculpting Bible for Women, Revised Edition: The Way to Physical Perfection (Body Sculpting Bible) or The Body Sculpting Bible for Men, Revised Edition: The Way to Physical Perfection (Body Sculpting Bible). However, if you are looking to start with the very basics - nothing wrong with that - then start with this one to get your basics down and your confidence up before moving on to the Body Sculpting series or other more advanced books.

Ok Book by .. N. Marple () THis is an ok book to just show family members when you try to tell them you have fibromyalgia. It is a simple book that they can read to understand. Otherwise there are better books out there.
good but for dummies by .. jsmom (florida) This is a great book the only reason for low stars is that it didnt tell me anything that you couldnt find out easily by looking at one or maybe even two simple websites about fibro. If you know absolutely nothing then get it or get it for friends and family of someone who has it, it is very good and easy to read it is definelty for dummies on the subject.
Great Book by .. Yvonne Tenney (El Paso, Tx USA) This a really good book for Fibromyalgia sufferers. I found a lot of information about how to handle the condition, where to get support, and info about Social Security claims, what to do and not to do. For me it was very helpful.
Great, first book! by .. C. Andrews (Bay Area, CA United States) After finding out I had FMS, I saw this book in the store and it was on sale. Not just for Dummies! by .. Susan Shams (West Des Moines, IA) Truly, dummies, need not apply. This book is for anyone interested in fitness in general. This book is filled with so much information, it is mind boggling. From understanding your risk for heart disease, to finding the right pair of shoes, this book has it all. The author Liz Neoporent, is really a Fitness expert. There are 20 chapters, each jam packed with useful information. I have determined my body mass index, as well as measured the strength of my middle and lower body. I have finally been able to buy the right sports bra, that does not make me 'wiggle and jiggle'. I have understood the 4 levels of walking plus their benefits, and found out the importance of strength training, how beneficial it really is. Plus, I have finally been able to find a pair of shoes that do not give me painful blisters (what a miracle). This is a great resource for any fitness enthusiast. I recommend it to anyone wanting to better their bodies and themselves.

Good read for anyone who is interested in autism
Highly useful for parents by .. Enric Archivell Calleja (Barcelona, Spain) In my opinion this is a very useful book for parents, but not as complete and exhaustive as a teacher (as myself) would need. That's why I'm giving it 4 stars and not 5. Easy to read, and complete as far as parents are concerned.
Dummies does it again! by .. sueincolorado (Denver, CO United States) The Dummies folks have once again put together a great general resource. It provides a good baseline for understanding autism. Another book I found very helpful--and more specific as to curing this disorder--is He's Not Autistic But...: How We Pulled Our Son From the Mouth of the Abyss.
