Customer reviews Know nothing about investing? Start here. by .. Melissa Damon (Lynchburg, VA) I didn't think reading about money/investing could ever be this fun or interesting. Straight talk and clear definitions for all the finance jargon.
Great! by .. C. Lavelle (Indiana) Great book, lays it all out in terms I can understand. I started investing based on this book, and I refer to it often.
Definitely "for Dummies" by .. D. Dollahite (Long Island) I've read several "for Dummies" books, and in general the entire series is well written, concise, and gives you what you really need. However, I was very disappointed in this one. The book is really dedicated to the three methods of building wealth: equity (stocks, mutual funds, etc.), real estate, and small business. But there isn't enough info on any of the three subjects to do much with. You're better off getting a separate book on real estate if you plan on pursuing that. And nothing he says regarding small business is of much use to accomplish anything. That leaves stocks, bonds and mutual funds, which is what most users would purchase this book for. Regarding that, if you are completely new to mutual funds then this is the book for you as it will explain the basics. However, if you are beyond the very basics (i.e.; "What is a mutual fund?"), and are looking to seriously invest, then I think you'll be disappointed. And if you are looking to get into buying stocks directly, then this book seriously falls short. The entire section on stocks really just explains a canned stock report from a given company. Utterly useless unless you plan on subscribing to that service. No talk of forward PE's, valuation, etc.. Also, the author's continual insistence that you should stay in mutual funds because you "can't beat the market" since there are so many pros out there is utterly ridiculous. There are many gurus out there that have proven track records of generating higher than average returns. Just emulating Warren Buffet's portfolio will do that.
I was looking for a book to dig more into stock valuation, company analysis, etc. and this book barely even touched on any of that beyond definitions. I wouldn't even call it Finance 101, since there is very little about monetary policy, bonds, interest rates, etc.. If you've picked out at least one mutual fund in your life (or purchased a stock directly), then this book is way too simple. If you tremble at the thought of picking a mutual fund and have no financial sense whatsoever, then this is your book.
Very Good Book by .. Chandan Kumar (Chantilly, VA) I wanted to start investing and read somewhere you should first do some studies. That's when I came across this book. Very well written, and in simple to understand language. I used to dread 401K, IRA, Mutual Funds, Bonds. Now I am confident I know about them and what I am investing into.
Showed new ways to look at debts, as to if I clear my debt sooner, I am investing in something which gives be interest equal to the interest I pay the bank.
I would recommend this book to all who want to get into investing but are hesitant or don't know where to get information from.
Investing for Dummies by .. Deseret Rose (Las Vegas, NV USA) I bought this for my daughter, who is taking this a college course.
She seems to be happy with it. She asked for this book it as the instructor told her she needed it for the class. Sorry I can't give you more info but I am sure it's a good book.

Product Description Stock Investing For Dummies, 3rd Edition includes information on stock investing in both bear and bull markets; unique investment segments; stock investing for different types of situations; and examples straight from the real world of stock investing as they have occurred in the past three years. Customer reviews Brilliant! by .. Lisan (Godoy Cruz, Mendoza Argentina) Time is an important asset. Invest your time in this excelent masterpiece, it will be your first good investment of many.
Two considerations:
Specalutors are not welcome here, this is pure investment for dummies. Aggresive tactics only in a conservative macro-enviroment.
Investment could be very hard if you like, but like all things in life, it is best to keep it simple. Paul's book will be always in your hands when your strategies became too complex, heping advanced investors return to the basics.
(Sorry for my english, is not my primary language)
What you need to know about stock! by .. Tran Dao () It has basiclly very much everything to know about stocks. For newbie like me, I'm glad that I got this book. It shows u from buy to sell stocks and what matters would happen.
This book was good forthe money! by .. The Capper (South Dakota USA) I liked the book and thouht it was really good, some stuff I didn't think about was menioned in this book, even though its for Dummies :-)
Judge by the results... by .. Ignatius () This book is fantastic. It covers all the basic fundamentals, provides resources to learn more about every area, and covers every broad aspect of evaluating a company. You learn about company fundamentals, accounting formulas, economic indicators, political signs, trends, and much more. Probably the best beginning book on stock trading I've read, and I have read many.
Not only that, but the author's results speak for themselves. The 1st edition was written in 2005, and he made several predictions, every one of which came true. In the book he mentioned that according to his research silver would be in very high demand in the next few years - then showed the indicators to prove it. Silver then went on to go from $7 to $17 currently, over 30% annual growth. He accurately predicted the internet stock bust in 2001, the housing bust, the rise of silver, the rise of oil, the collapse of financial service companies, and the rise of commodities.
Obviously results alone don't mean anything, but when taken with the strategies he teaches, it's very clear that this guy knows what he's doing.
Exactly what the title implies. by .. RCTLee (USA) Like it says, it's stock investing for dummies. Not only will you get explanations for key terms that you will encounter, you also will be taught how to look at numbers on a balance sheet, and decode what story the balance sheet is telling you. The way this book is written is very novice-friendly, you won't have to worry about being lost or not being able to understand some words. I can see how the more "advanced" investors might flip through the pages going "I already know that...." But like the title says, It's for dummies. If you know nothing about investing and want to know more, this is a great start. However, If you want to take it to the next level, I recommend a successful mentor.

Customer reviews office 2007 for dummies by .. Cheryl Ingram (LA) The product has very basic information. I purchased the book to find out how to do many things within Office Outlook and the information was simply not there. I was looking to learn how to manage and update my "Archive Folder" it didn't have the information available. Disappointing based upon the cost.
Office 2007 All-in-One Desk Reference For Dummies by .. Dennis Mcfarland (Winslow, AZ United States) AWESOME BOOK I couldn't have found a better one. Easy to read and great instructions.
Dennis aka drdenny
Excellent Beginner Book by .. A. Decker (Vancouver, Washington United States) Readable, useful, humorous. I knew Word and Excel 2003 and needed to upgrade those to 2007 and learn Access and Outlook from start. This book would get you from no knowledge to being able to use the four programs I read about. It doesn't cover advanced topics - how to duplicate Access entries and make changes in the duplicate, for example - but you'll be ready to understand a more advanced guide.
Office 2007 All-in-One Desk Reference For Dummies (For Dummies (Computer/Tech)) by .. Parkway Christian Center () I have found it to be helpful. I do feel that specific topics are sometimes more difficult to locate than I'd like. But overall, it has proven a good choice.
Book Review by .. Debbra Ikeler (Tomahawk, WI United States) If you have Office 2007, this book is a MUST for you. Very easy to read and understand. This book will teach you things about Office 2007 you did not know.

Customer reviews book is good but program is a microsoft price gouge by .. George W. Towle () the 2007 programs create major problems in business organizations that have massive files in the 2003 version. the cost to convert is astronomical in comparison with the minor cost of the microsoft product.
EXCEL 2007 by .. AEF (OHIO) I have several of these books on different subjects and although it is a good training or reference book, I would have preferred VISUALS as they are much easier for me to follow. What I like about the DUMMY line, is the reading material is in simple terms and not that WAY OUT THERE technical terms that I doubt the real computer geeks even understand.
Useful but... by .. Earth Colony (Marina Del Rey CA) The section on financial formulas contains some horribly incorrect information (totally wrong on NPV interpretation) and for some reason skips a description of IRR - one of the most used financial functions. Otherwise a good introduction to Excel 2007.
Stephen's Review by .. Stephen B. Roberts () The Excel 2007 for Dummies was just what I was looking for. It contained everything, plus some, that I needed to work with this version of Excel.
Excel 2007 for Dummies by .. Anna J. Warrington () Started a new job and was not used to using the 2007 version of Excel. The book is very informative and helped me greatly. Would recommend this book to anyone needing help with Excel 2007

Customer reviews Economics for Dummies by .. Eric H. Smith () I thgought this was a very informative book. For such a tough subject matter, the author kept you interested. This book teaches you the nuts & bolts of economics so you can now form your own opinion. Word of caution....have a fresh mind when going over graphs & charts....you need to understand these !
superior primer by .. Steven Becker (New Jersey) This is the best primer on basic economics I've ever read. Masaki writes with tremendous clarity. As promised, every concept covered--always clearly and with admirable thoroughness--is accompanied by relevant, illuminating real-life examples. The book is a treasure for anyone wanting to discover the world of economics.
Good stuff... by .. Mrs. G. L. Booth (UK) Haven't read it all yet but its well written and funny so far.
Think I will learn a lot from it.
Great book..very easy to understand by .. G. Carr () Economics can be a very complex subject, but this book does a great job of breaking it down into very easy to understand language. The author starts by explaining the basics of economics, both macro and micro, and then gives real world examples that allow you to understand what he just explained. Every person who has a job or has investments should know something about basic economics and this book will make that very easy. Who knows you might even be able to see trends coming before they hit and be able to make proper ajustments in your finances to protect yourself and your family.
Easy, clear, not too detailed by .. Michael Pomerantsev (CA) Very well-written and clear introduction to economics for people who don't know anything in that subject. I would swap microeconomics and macroeconomics chapters; would also prefer significantly more real-world examples. Would be nice to have a couple chapters for people who know enough math and wish a bit deeper understanding.

I haven't found anything on here that has been helpful in my Vista experience. Much easier to just research online....
Windows Vista for Dummies by .. Virginia J. Dolder (Gainesville, FL) Windows Vista for Dummies is just what I needed to allow me to, "step by step" transfer from my old program to my new computer... I am not dumb but I do enjoy following instructions, step-by-step, written with a little humor...

Not 'dumb' enough..... by .. Mary Lou (Prescott Valley, AZ USA) Although the friends that I bought this book for are enjoying it, it doesn't give them the minute details that they really need. They have never had a computer before and this book assumes they know more than they do. We forget how overwhelming the computer was for us when we first got started and assume that everyone has a basic understanding of what to do. If this book is truly for dummies, it needs to be really basic for such people.

() since we r on the subject of football...im watching a football game. its sunday night football and the dallas cowboys and washington redskins r playing.i want dallas 2 win. thats my team.it is the first 6 or 7 min and redskins already scored. oh my goodness...im mad.but anyway this book really helped me know wat was going on. i wasnt a football person and now i am...i luv it.
Informative Book! by .. Happy Customer (Hampton, VA USA) The book really goes over every part of football, ranging from college to the NFL. Gives information about the rules and includes pictures of referee calls. Would definitely recommend this book for anyone who wants to learn the foundation of football.
Informative by .. Sherri Dottin (Woburn, MA) I purchased this book to learn more about the game of football and it has met my expectations not to mention Howie Long is one of my favorite players.
Two thumbs up from a football neophyte by .. D. Phillips (Overland Park, KS United States) I became interested in football for the first time this year with an exciting college football season. I've tried to watch NFL football with my husband but all it looked like to me was, as my daughter says, "A bunch of dudes piling on top of each other." I really wanted to begin to learn football, so I bought this book. I love it! I've got sticky notes in it, underlines, highlights and margin notes. I give it 4 1/2 stars because some of the descriptions still assume I know or understand just a little more than I do. Plus, the index is not comprehensive enough. I've watched games after using the book and understood more of what I saw on the field, and after watching a game I understood more of what I read in the book...so it worked both ways. I still have a long way to go but am now looking forward to next fall and the beginning of football season. I am even entertaining the idea of buying season tickets to watch my favorite team.
Football for Dummies by Howie Long scores big! by .. Sam Hendricks (Virginia USA) I used to think I knew almost everything there is to know about football. I was wrong. This book provided many interesting tidbits and insights into a game I love. What is there not to like? Football for Dummies is written by Howie Long, a much-respected NFL great, who takes the time to explain all of the nuances of the greatest sport in American history. It is a "dummies" book, but that is what makes it so great. You can skip the chapters you know already or do not care to read. This book is for everyone, from the significant other who wants to understand why they are a football widow, to the novice learning to play, to someone who thinks they know everything about the game (but really does not).
Even it you know everything this book will teach you something. From the stance of an Offensive Lineman to why they call it a "dime package" to how to play fantasy football; this book explains it all. I highly recommend this book into your football library.

This intelligent and faithful look at Catholicism will open your eyes to this religion and answer many of the questions you may have about it. Customer reviews Excellent consultation work by .. Benedictus (London, UK) This is a well written survey of Catholicism, mainly for the uninitiated. Written in a very clear and simple way, but never trying to "accommodate" the taste of younger people as far as the Teaching is concerned.
The author tries to convey his message in an entertaining way and succeeds in adopting a style able to involve young readers, without watering down his message.
Also very useful for occasional consultation.
Great intro to Catholicism by .. Jennifer Spinner (Kitsap Peninsula - Western Washington) I'm a convert to Catholicism from "Reformed" and baptistic theology and this book, along with "The Catholicism Answer Book" by the same authors has been quite helpful.
In reading the negative reviews, I can't help but marvel at the downright devious motives they ascribe to the authors. I don't know either of these priests personally, but I dare say their reputations stand on their own!
This book takes some fairly heavy doctrine and brings it down to a very "digestible" level. The authors don't bash Protestants, are quite charitable throughout and present orthodox teaching.
I own the catechism and use it often, but sometimes having things brought into laymen's terms, along with examples and illustrations, is helpful.
If you're looking for an in-depth but accessible intro to the Catholic Church and all she teaches - get this book. If you want a question-and-answer type book, get their other one! Better yet... buy them both! They have permanent residence in my nightstand along with my Bible and the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
Recommended without reservation.
Learning what I missed before by .. Anna C. Card (Tampa Fl) I went through a catechism class with a number of others. There were questions I had meant to ask but didn't. I didn't want to come across as stupid by asking some things so I just let it go.
This book is helping me answer those questions. It is very informative and easy to follow. I would recommend this book highly to anyone who wants find out those questions you're afraid to ask.
Does have Nihil Obstat & Imprimatur by .. Jennifer A. Bush () Book was very readable and does have a Nihil Obstat & Imprimatur, meaning that the Church has officially decreed that the publication is free of doctrinal and moral error - obviously something important if you want to learn the true teachings of the Church. The book is an excellent topical review of Catholic beliefs that will hopefully serve as a gateway to others, that delve even deeper into the truth. There are many great resources out there, one of my favorites is St. Joseph Communications: http://www.saintjoe.com/
Excellent Overview of the Catholic Faith by .. Gerald D. Lange (Bella Vista, AR USA) New Catholics and converts often struggle with the catechism but this book is an easy read for everyone. Even life long Catholics could benefit and come to know their faith better through reading this book.

The book provides valuable information that is valuable at any age, but even better if she can learn now. Great practical tips on debt management, saving, budgeting retirement, etc.
Great tool for personal purposes. by .. Sofi (Puerto rico) It's just amazing. Every other theme not too well understood is explained with clarity. Website references are a plus. If you have no idea of most financial concepts, what they mean and how to understand them this is a good starter tool.

Very informative and helpful; odd section on saving money by .. R. Duterte (New Brunswick, NJ United States) This book is pretty informative and gives helps guide you on preparing your finances. It talks about a lot of pitfalls to watch out for, and gives you some straight opinions on employer retirement plans and debt management, as well as some thoughts on good debt vs. bad debt.
The only problem I have with it is the section on cutting costs. It is a little out of place and some of the recommendations on how to save money are a little bizarre and out there. Shaving your head to save money on hair supplies and taking naps at home for vacation instead of going away got a raised eyebrow from me, as did his belief that you have to be a small business or nonprofit to get a Costco membership. He also talks about giving up meat as a possible avenue for cost savings (because it costs a lot).
Like I said, the rest of the book seems to have sound financial guidance. The section on saving money?
Take it with a grain of salt.
a must-have for kids on their way to college by .. John A. Blair (Buffalo, NY) If you have a kid going off to college, make sure they read this. It is simply the most valuable book they will ever read. And don't forget to get one for yourself. There's a lot of time-worn wisom in this book that most people are ignorant of.
