E. Pennington (Carmi, IL United States) I sew doll clothes as a hobby. The Bitty Baby Twins on the cover sold me the book, because I needed patterns for the dolls. However, the paper patterns are a mess to cut out. Many pieces are out of sequence and if you lose one piece (unfortunately like I did), then you can not make a majority of the outfits, because one bodice might be used three times!(No extra pieces are given.) The outfits are very time consuming and not as easy to make as those produced by other companies, like Simplicity. Also, I do not know how to hand smock and some of the clothes called for smocking.
Wonderful Book by .. A. Kendrick (Matthews, NC) It's a wonderful book for those who love to make doll clothes. As a grandmother who enjoys making a doll wardrobe for a precious gd, I found the patterns and sewing tips very helpful.
Baby doll clothes patterns by .. Kathleen A. Hymel (Austin, TX) Joan Hinds has now done for 15" baby dolls what she did for 18" dolls. This book has many possibilities for baby doll wardrobes. Patterns are full sized and sewing directions are clear. I'm enjoying using this book.
Another great book from Joan Hinds by .. Catharine A. Noone (Oak Park, IL) Like all of her books for 18" dolls, this book contains many great patterns along with easy to understand, well written directions. Great pictures let you see the finished as reference in addition to the directions.

Sewers of any skill level will enjoy completing these adorable projects for 18-inch dolls! Customer reviews less costly 18" doll clothes by .. JOANN TERRY (Lakeville, MN USA) This book has many easy to sew patterns for 18" dolls. My granddaughter & I made a jumper (to match one she has) in less than 3 hours! You get many patterns to choose from, easy to follow directions, & excellent photos of the finished product. Much less expensive than buying individual patterns to sew doll clothes.
Great for Ideas by .. Grandmom (Frankfort, KY) This book was great for ideas and general instructions. However, I found the patterns to be way too large for the 18" dolls, and I found several errors in the construction directions. As a seasoned sewist, I knew how to work around this misdirection, but newer sewists may not.
I can still recommend the book though just for the inspiration.
Great book by .. Vanessa L. Hooper (Canton, Georgia) This is a lovely book with great patterns for making doll clothes. I am still enjoying making clothing for my friends' girls' dolls.
Not so easy by .. Julie Karp () While the fashions are super (per my 9 year old daughter), the patterns do not seem easy to follow for someone with somewhat limited sewing experience.
"Sew Today's Fashions for 18-inch dolls" by Joan Hinds by .. Laura P. Way (Rockville, MD United States) I ordered this book because I've made scores of clothes using Hinds' EXCELLENT book, "Contemporary Wardobe for 18-inch Dolls," which has very fine instructions. I like "Today's Fashions" except for one difficulty: THE PATTERN PIECES ARE NOT NUMBERED. Numbered pieces are much easier to find and keep organized.
I also ordered Hinds' books, "International Wardrobe" and "Baby Doll Clothes," both with numbered pieces. The Spanish huipil (International)turned out nicely; however, one step was omitted in the instructions: finishing the back edges.
Hinds does wonderful, imaginative work; I'm eager to try many more outfits in "International," "Baby Doll" and "Today's." I've made doll clothes for many years; your delightful books are encouraging me to keep at it. Thank you, Joan!

A. P. Garrett (Glastonbury, CT United States) Given how expensive American Girl clothes can be, this book offers a way to make your own clothes at a fraction of the price of buying them. It is a nice collection with a variety of clothes to make a complete wardrobe. A bit of experience in sewing is definitely helpful though. Most patterns are a bit complex for a child to do alone, but anyone with some sewing background would find them quite straight forward. Full size patterns are included for all the clothes. Definitely recommend this book.
best of the bunch by .. Carol (Phnx, PA USA) Found this to have excellent sewing instrucions with illustrations. Very versatile pieces that can be interchanged. Accessories easy and add to the wardrobe.

Contempoary Wardobe for 18-Inch Dolls by .. Donna Link () This book contains full size patterns that sew beautifully. Great selection of outfits and complete insructions that are very easy to follow.
I Can't Complain by .. JC Hertzler () My daughter (who is 10 years old) got her American Girl doll for Christmas this year...and after spending all that money on an 18" doll, I wasn't about to pay $24 per outfit.
I have some sewing experience. I can hem up jeans, sew pillows, fix a seam or button if need be...but that's about it. I've never used a pattern before.
The hardest part was finding the pattern pieces. There are two large tissue papers tucked away in the back of the book. Each piece appears to have hundreds of little patterns. Once you find the pieces for what you are making, it is a breeze.
I will warn you, there are some things that just can't be sewn with a machine. Invest in a thimble and proceed.
Half the fun is teaching my daughter how to sew. She loves her doll and wants it to have a wardrobe exactly like hers. I warned her that the deal was if she got the doll, she would have to help make the clothes. She agreed and we've been able to sew many outfits that closely resemble hers.
This book, in my opinion, contains the most modern clothing patterns. It also has very easy to follow instructions. I would recommend this book to anyone who has an American Girl doll.

For playtime, stitch up a flannel shirt and jeans or seersucker sun suit, for special celebrations try a gingham party dress with lace collar or a velveteen frock festooned with gold lame. Each outfit is pictured in colour; complete directions and pattern pieces are included. Customer reviews Doll clothes patterns by .. J. Melby (Thief River Falls, MN USA) I make doll clothes for the granddaughters American Girl dolls. Nice patterns and good instructions.
Disappointed by .. Carol (Phnx, PA USA) I was disappointed that there were no actual pattern pieces included in the back of the book. The patterns are pictures but it gives no suggestions as to the best way to actually use the pattern pictures, either by tracing them or some other method.
Classic Doll Clothes - Limited Only bt Your Imagination by .. AliMcJ (Dallas, Texas) Nice batch of garments, basic patterns, that can be embellished to taste; variations in color, fabric, trim make the patterns yours.
The patterns in this book are for 18" girl dolls with a 10" waist.
The clothes are classic dolls' clothes -- 1940s - 1950s -- made to fit the slim body girl dolls (Gotz/Goetz, Magic Attic, Euro Girls*).
Instructions are given for scaling patterns and/or for lengthening, widening within the pattern (not on the seam lines), which would need to be done for American Girls, which are on the obese side, with a 12" chest and waist. The waist size on the AGs varies depending on the doll and its owner, as they are soft-body dolls and can have their waists compacted somewhat over time by use, by wearing belts and/or ribbon ties.
The wrist size on the AGs is 3-1/2" in circumference, as opposed to 2-3/4" on the Magic Attic dolls, and this is hard vinyl/plastic.
Worth noting also is that the clothes have high necklines on them, which is suitable for the AG dolls, as the AG cloth body reaches up to the neck and needs to be covered; so, although the patterns need to be adjusted for size to fit the AG dolls, the styling of the clothing is suitable for them. The Magic Attic (and Madame Alexander 18" dolls) have shoulders and part of chest made of plastic/vinyl, so their necklines can be exposed.
* I don't have a fitting model of the Euro Girls or the West Coast Kids, which are about the same size as each other; they may be even slimmer than the "slim body" 18" dolls to which these patterns are fitted.
Patterns for 18-inch dolls' clothing by .. Jo B. Brooke (Jacksonville, FL) These seem to be for the American Girls dolls for the 1950's and 1960's...not so much for "modern" clothes.

 Author : Rosemarie Ionker Number of Pages : 144 Publisher : Reverie Publishing List Price : $24.95 Amazon Price : $16.41 Used Price : $17.09 |
Product Description Rosemarie Ionker's elegant doll clothing, long the attire of choice for many famous doll-makers, is now available for the first time in pattern form. The distinguished designer, whose finished doll clothing is available from her company, Petite Creations, shares her techniques for creating an entire wardrobe of dresses, pinafores, coats and underclothing from just a few basic patterns. The patterns are adjustable for dolls of four sizes, ranging from 111/2 to 20 inches. Dolls by well-known artists Helen Kish and Diana Effner model the completed outfits in stunning color photography, which includes detail shots of the embroidery and smocking that distinguishes Ionker's designs. Customer reviews A Closetful of Doll Clothes by .. Jan Wilson (Southern MD USA) Rosemarie Ionker very rightly describes her designs as not for beginning seamstresses. Some of the directions are confusing, and it can be daunting finding the right pattern pieces. The styles make up beautifully, though.
I wouldn't recommend them for most modern dolls..without making up paper towel or muslin "shams" first. The 14" clothes vary in size/fit. Some items fit both my antique Schoenhut and the Tonner Betsy McCall (14" patterns) Some don't, usually being too large.
However! The illustrations and ideas alone are worth the price of the book. I just wish the embroidery patterns were available as transfers! And it's an excellent resource for the experienced doll costumer. I'm glad I bought it!!
A Trouseau of Doll Clothes by .. Tracy Robert (Albuquerque, NM United States) The author, Rosemarie Ionker, is well established in the doll world with her doll clothing company "Petite Creations". Her company offers the highest quality doll clothing line available, so she speaks with the voice of experience. But, Ionker herself confesses in the text of this book that her designs are not for beginning seamstresses. They are presented for those who aspire to the level of detail, design and professionalism found in the garments offered by her company.
The patterns in this book are for 4 specific dolls. The 20 inch doll and the 11 1/2 inch doll are Marley and (original)Bethany by Kish and Company, for whom Ionker regularly designs. The 18 inch doll and 14 inch doll are porcelain dolls by Diana Effner. These dolls are featured on the cover of the book are referred to throughout the text. There is no reference to these patterns being generic, and little reference for adapting them for other dolls. Of course, they can be used for other dolls. The doll measurements are given so you know if your doll is of a similar size, but the seamstress of these garments will have to determine if the patterns need to be adjusted and how to do that.
In this book, Ionker offers patterns for coordinated "wardrobes" or "trousseus" for dolls. The basic pieces for each doll include a coat, dresses, and undergarments. She suggests usage for color themes and fabric choices, and instructs on the use of trim. She offers sewing tips and pattern notes. There is a page identifying each pattern piece in a one page layout. The reader can then find the pattern pieces in the correct size by going to the chapter for each doll.
I would not recommend this book for modern 18 inch dolls. It is more tailored for artist quality vinyl dolls and porcelain dolls. The patterns are for clothing items now considered old-fashioned for today's children and are not pieces for modern wardrobes. These are lovely designs, though, for fans of Petite Creations. Smocking and embroidery make the photo section of this book eye candy for the adult doll collector. Whatever challenges this book may hold for the less experienced seamstress, it more than makes up for in inspiration.
Great patterns and easy to sew! by .. () I wanted to make doll clothes for my granddaughter's various dolls and this book has been wonderful! It has patterns for 11 1/2 inch, 14 inch, 18 inch, and 20 inch dolls. They include a coat, panties, dresses, pinafores, blouses, bloomers, jumpers, collar variations, sleeve variations and embroidery/embellishment suggestions. I simply copied the patterns and cut them out, chose some fabrics I had at hand and started sewing. Basic sewing skills are all that are needed to enjoy making these little clothes; 1/4 inch seams are allowed. If you don't have a machine, they could easily be done by hand as they are small. A few bits of ribbon and lace, some recycled clothing for fabrics and your dolls can have a complete new wardrobe!
Adorable by .. () Adorable outfits with pin tucks, smocking, & even hand embroidered details. Because Dolls' dressmaker doesn't have those things, I recommend this book in addition to The Dolls' Dressmaker. Now my life is complete! (or at least my collection of doll patterns is!).
Not for beginners by .. () This book offers beautifully designed doll clothing patterns and advice about sewing for dolls in general. However, it is not for beginners as it gives a minimum of construction information. It would have been nice if the smocking designs had been included, but they are not.All in all, it is a beautiful book that will stimulate your imagination to sew for your dolls. It does offer patterns in several useful sizes so that you can make a complete wardrobe for several of your dolls.

Customer reviews Fancy doll dresses by .. Diane M. Ryks (Minnesota, USA) I bought this book and love it. The dresses are stunning. I'm amazed that I am able to make these dresses myself. I agree with the authors that this is not a starting to sew book. Some sewing experience is needed to understand the directions and pattern pieces. The authors do not have you purchase unnecessary items. The results are stunning.
I hope that the authors make more pattern books of this quality.

Customer reviews Somewhat Disappointed by .. E. Pennington (Carmi, IL United States) I bought this book wanting to make glorious doll clothes like those shown on the cover. It was a bit of a let down, because you had to have the actual dolls to size the clothes on. Directions might read "measure the dolls waist and add a half an inch". I ended up selling the book to a doll shop owner because it did not fit my needs.
Very nice and complete overview. by .. Karine Kevara (Neerpede, Brussels, Belgium) I have been very happy to discover this book. It gives lots of ideas and the models can be used as base for new creations ! A little girl's dream becomes reality...Many thanks.

Customer reviews A Doll's Favorite Wardrobe by .. K. Dodds (Utah) This book is excellent! The patterns are simple and easy to follow. The outfits are adorable. The only problem I have is that my doll is wider through the chest and taller, so I have to alter some of the patterns to fit- but it is not a difficult process. Also, many of the patterns are repeated for different outfits, which makes it easy to sew, but it would be nice to have more variety. Overall, a great product that I really enjoy using.
Very well & simply written; I use it over and over! by .. Pheebers (Massachusetts) The instructions are well written and easy to follow, and the patterns are varied enough that you don't need any other doll patterns.... although I have several of Joan Hinds' other books and they're very good too.
What works for me:
I bought one of those slim less-than-a-dollar slip-in photo albums, and use each photo spot to hold a pattern, alpabetically by piece. (Actually a copy of the pattern; I don't like to cut up originals)The spine is labeled and it's very neat on my shelf.
Joan Hinds' other books have the pattern pieces numbered; and that's even easier to organize. I have an album for each book, and numbered each page in permanent ink. Then each piece was filed in its own little spot, visible, safe, and easily accessed. I found this more efficient than storing pieces by outfit, because several outfits share pieces. It took me less than 45 minutes, start to finish, including tracing ALL of the patterns & cutting them out.
Overall, a highly recommended book and series!
well written patterns and ease of sewing by .. Sharon Bayer (Gainesville, FL United States) This is the third book of patterns by Joan Hinds I have purchased to clothe my daughter's American Girls dolls. All of her patterns have well written instructions and come with full size pattern pieces. The sewing is not complicated, I am able to complete an outfit in a couple of hours, I think most of the projects would be suitable for beginning sewers. The best part is most of the clothing can be made with rements of fabric. I usually cut out several outfits at a time and then do the sewing for them all at once, it alleviates the need to continue pulling out the pattern sheets.
A word to the wise by .. () The book looks wonderful - but it came without the patterns. I would suggest that you ask the seller to double check the book to make sure the patterns are included before shipping.
Fun and Easy clothes by .. Erma K. Thompson (Cedar Rapids, IA United States) This book is great for making quick and simple doll clothes. I have had a lot of fun making a great variety of clothes for my granddaughters American Girl doll. Let your imagination go and there is no limit to what you can do with these patterns. Some days I think I have more fun than my granddaughter.
