Product Description With deadpan humor and obvious affection, Five-Finger Discount recounts the story of an unforgettable New Jersey family of swindlers, bookies, embezzlers, and mobster-wannabes. In the memoir Mary Karr calls “a page-turner,” Helene Stapinski ingeniously weaves the checkered history of her hometown of Jersey City—a place known for its political corruption and industrial blight—with the tales that have swirled around her relatives for decades. Navigating a childhood of toxic waste and tough love, Stapinski tells an extraordinary tale at once heartbreaking and hysterically funny. Customer reviews A Great Read by .. Amanda E. Derechailo (New York City) If you don't find yourself howling out loud at some passages in this book, then you don't get the east coast sense of humor at all ( finding humor in the absurd, the miserable and the horrible). And well, frankly, I question your horrible taste.
Stapinski's book is very moving, funny and well written. Massive corruption, police brutality, toxic waste, armies of invading rats, packs of wild dogs, and mysterious odors - Jersey City had it all. This book sent me into fits.
This is not a history of Jersey City, lighten up! by .. tjc (BURR RIDGE, ILLINOIS USA) I was amazed by the vehemence of the reviews of this book, both positive and negative. I was also surprised by the number of reviews. I think that, in itself, tells you that the book is worth reading.
Like many of the reviewers, I was born and raised in Jersey City (born in 1955). That would make me ten years older than the author, so our time in Jesey City pretty much paralleled each other. Was my family like Ms. Stapinski's? No. Can I relate to that which she is writing? Absolutely! I grew up in the Heights section of Jersey City on Waverly Street right off of Central Avenue and near Pershing Field. It was not downtown Jersey City, but we had enough characters of our own. For those who grew up in Jesey City and cannot relate to Ms. Stapinski and her story, well, good for you. But if you were not aware of, or did not see the things she writes about in Jersey City, you were either naive, sheltered, or a liar.
In the 1960s and 1970s Jersey City was not a "model city." But then again, what large city was doing well, especially in the 1970s? For all it's faults, I would not have wanted to grow up anywhere else.
"Five Fingered Discount" is one woman's recollection of her childhood. It is not the definitive history of Jersey City. Jersey City is like any other large city; it has it's good points and bad points. If you happen to remember more of the good points, wonderful, but it doesn't mean the bad ones didn't exist. If you know nothing about Jersey City, but would like some interesting reading, I recommend this book. If you are from another large urban area in the U.S., I am sure you will find Ms. Stapinski's story familiar. Jersey City has not cornered the market on urban dysfunction!
I enjoyed this book by .. WinterBelle (Kentucky) I was reading some reviews here and was surprised that they found this book "offensive", because either they knew better part of the city or Stapinski's family members stole, could not drive, drank, etc. WHY????? Haven't you stole an ashtray from downtown cafe once? Ever? Or haven't you taken a bunch of ketcup packets from fastfood joint? .. OK, all I'm saying is to lighten up a little. I think tragedies and craziness of her family are written here with great humor and affection. And who doesn't have one crazy person in their family? I could feel lump in my throat when I read the part where her daddy died. If you like to read something filled with morals and displines, then this book is not for you. But if you like to laugh and cry over real people with vivid characters, you should try this one.
I absolutely loved Five Finger Discount by .. TheBanshee (United States) Stapinski relates growing up in Jersey City in a fresh and honest way. And her recounting of the blighted history of Jersey City politics is a head-shaking hoot. As for the popularity of her opinions about JC and its denizens, well, that has no bearing on whether this book is a great read; it is.
I loved the sheer humanity of this book.
LOVED the humor of this book. by .. History Luvr (No. NJ) I've come to know and appreciate Jersey City on my own, since I became a volunteer historian at The Stanley Theatre 6 years ago. I've had to go the JC Public Library and had the pleasure of going thru the NJ Room, as well as meeting great people (Cynthia, Bruce, and Leon Yost -'Jersey Citians'(?). I've grown up in urban areas (i.e, Newark/Irvington), and now live in the suburbs in another County, but have come to appreciate Jersey City very much.
Jersey City has some wonderful historic sites, as well as areas that have been revitalized by citizens who take pride in their communities. I'm sure that the folks who've taken exception to many aspects of this book have their own arguments, that are probably even valid. But Ms. Stapinski's story is HER family story, the good, bad, and ugly.
There are wonderful Jersey City Arcadia-published books on various historical aspects, but Ms. Stapinski's personal account with "Five Finger Discount" was close to home for me, because my paternal grandfather was somewhat like her Grandpa, and my grandfather was sent to Trenton State Prison in the 1960's for illegal gambling, as well as not naming names.
I also read her "Baby Plays Around" and if nothing else, one has to admit that Ms. Stapinski's candor and raw emotion comes through in both published works.

Product Description Lynn Johnston's For Better or For Worse is the world's most popular family strip in which characters evolve through age and experience, rather than remaining frozen in time. Readers appreciate the daily doings of the Patterson family, which often mirror their own. ·Senior's Discount: A For Better or For Worse Collection follows John and Elly as retirement looms, Grandpa Jim celebrates his 85th birthday and suffers a stroke, Mike and Deanna adjust to the demands of parenthood, Elizabeth accepts a teaching position that brings her back home, and April strains for more and more independence. ·Simultaneous to the publication of this collection, Johnston makes an unprecedented move within the newspaper cartooning community—developing a new format by using former plot lines as a jumping-off point for new ones. For Better or For Worse has been syndicated since 1979 and has been named Best Syndicated Comic Strip. The strip boasts a lively Web presence at www.fborfw.com Customer reviews Lynn Johnston by .. J. Gager (Houston.TX) I have been reading her comic strip since the beginning and have to have all the collections, Would recommend this addition.
Lynn Johnston - Genius by .. Yokohamamama (Yokohama, Japan) Lynn Johnston is briliant. Somehow she knows exactly what will occur in my life before it actually happens. Oh, the names are changed, and the minor details, but the fundamentals are the same.
It is obvious that she writes "For Better or For Worse" from her own experiences, as they are so like mine, and, I believe, like those of many others. In fact, as she is a little ahead of me, she has often helped me get through situations by putting them in (often hilarious, sometimes poignant) perspective.
Her entire series of comic strips is humourous, touching, and oh, so real. My only complaint is that she can't produce as fast as I can read. If it were possible, I would give her more than five stars, for this, and all her other FBOrFW collections.
Teluria by .. Frances Woodard (Laconia, NH United States) Lynn writes from the heart which reaches all of us as well as makes us laugh. Growing up with her family, we identify with the adult characters as well as with her cartoon children, Michael, Elizabeth and April. Humorous, entertaining and touching, Lynn keeps me waiting in eager anticipation for her next book.
The Best in the Business by .. Jerome K. Tidmore (Little Rock, AR, USA) For over 25 years, Lynn Johnston has done something few others have attempted. She has let her characters age and kept us involved with their lives in a humorous and loving manner. Like Doonesbury, her strip is a saga of people, events, and emotions and throughout Lynn has proven she is a comic strip artist with a conscience.
I recently started re-reading the entire series, doing one book per week or so. It has been excellent bedtime material and helps remind me that some more hope and humor helps us cope with our daily lives.
Johnston never strays from reality in portraying what is "for better or for worse." Fortunately for the readers, she also never strays from reason or doing what's right. Canada has a national treasure and her name is Lynn Johnston. And she has created the best Canadian ambassadors for goodwill ever to grace the comics pages: the Patterson family, their friends, and their pets.
If you've never read this series, buy them all. You won't be dissatisfied with a single book. If you already know this series, then you know everything I've written is true and even better than I can write about it. And, you probably are already at the stage in life where you qualify for a "Seniors' Discount."
The decline of a great strip by .. DebJyn () This collection shows how far the quality (and the likeability)of the FBoFW has fallen. We see the oldest child basically crawl back into the womb, ignore his children and wife and accept handouts from his parents (while villifying his in-laws). The older daughter leaves a job, a dedicated boyfriend who has completely re-ordered his life for her, and a community of friends simply because her old boyfriend (with whom she has been having an emotional affair) has finally gotten rid of his wife. The younger daughter has demonstrated that she will take any behavior from her boyfriend, just to get attention.
Ms. Johnston should have retired this strip years ago.

Being a small time Investor and not ever working with Short Sales I was able to refer to the sample forms and download blank forms for my own use. I found it to be a great find at a great price!
Very disappointed in the fluff of this book and credibility of author by .. Enlightened Wealth Institute (Las Vegas, NV) I found this book to be too much fluff as in all sizzle and no steak. There were so many details and specifics left out that are critical to pre-foreclosure investing.
Also disappointing are the legal troubles that Dwan Bent-Twyford in 2008 has been experiencing, and how she has not paid a Court ordered refund.
It makes me really wonder about the credibility of one of the authors, Dwan Twyford.
Excellent Resource by .. Carolyn Tracy (Thornton ,CO) This book is a must read for anyone who is interested in foreclosure investing. It gives and excellent step by step guidance through the pre-foreclosure investing process. Since the authors are successful investors, they know "the ropes" and can give much insight and knowledge to give new and old investors insight into working with the banks and with homeowners. Worth more than the money!!! by .. Teresa Brown (Pittsburgh, PA USA) This is a great book. I wish I would have purchased this book before I wasted my money on many other short sale books.

Brenda Pineault (Houston, TX) I had taken several short sale seminars from other real estate gurus, but when I tried to actually do a short sale, I found I was missing information. I had heard about Dwan and Sharon from my local REIA group, so I decided to order their book. It helped me to find "the missing pieces of the puzzle." It is well-written and easy to understand.

Product Description Another Posadas County mystery with Estelle Reyes-Guzman as the undersheriff, but with the ever more popular Bill Gastner peering out of the wings to which he dispatched himself upon retirement. Estelle's new job continues to be far from easy, and now she is faced the death of a young woman on a motorcycle - a death that could have been caused by improper driving from one of the county's traffic officers when he tried to stop her for speeding. But there is more than meets the eye, Gastner is there to help, but Estelle can go far to cope. This series continues to gain readers, thanks partly to the resurrection of the older books by Poison Penn Press.
Customer reviews Second In the New Series: A Discount For Death by .. Kevin Tipple (Plano, Texas) "A Discount For Death" is the second mystery bearing the tagline "A Posadas County Mystery." As long time fans know, with the retirement of Sheriff Bill Gastner, the series has shifted focus and now primarily revolves around Undersheriff Estelle Reyes-Guzman and her family. As such, this new series of which this is the second book, reflects not only a change in focus but also a subtle difference in writing style to a more distant view of the characters. While temperament of the new series is also different, this new series not only showcases familiar characters, it also retains the literary flavor of the southern New Mexico region that the author clearly loves. Opening a little after "Scavengers" left off, Posadas County Undersheriff Guzman is picking up her dry cleaning while in the village of Posadas, New Mexico. As she stands next to her patrol unit preparing to get back inside, she hears the distinctive whine of tires on pavement and engines at high speed. She can hear two vehicles in some sort of chase and knows that somewhere along their route as they draw closer, residents have already called and complained to the village Police Department. She has time to realize that the lead vehicle is a motorcycle with a car in close pursuit and then the unthinkable happens. Undersheriff Guzman is witness to a horrible crash at the end of the street as the motorcycle goes out of control, throwing the rider into the base of a utility pole. Seconds later, she witness the near crash of a Posadas Village patrol car as it slides through the accident scene. Despite what the misleading jacket copy states, which must have been written by someone who never read this book or the series, Posadas Village isn't really part of Undersheriff Guzman's Department. That fact does not stop her from being able to respond or request help. She does both and realizes that the Patrol car, now stopped, never had its lights or siren running and since they share frequencies, is sure she never heard the officer radio dispatch. The village patrolman, Perry Kenderman, whom she has known for some time, seems uncharacteristically dazed and confused as he stands surveying the wreckage and does nothing to assist the rider who lies crumpled at the base of the utility pole. The rider died at impact and Undersheriff Guzman wonders why Kenderman is acting so strange. She also wonders when he is initially questioned, why he lies, as she knows that the events he describes leading up to the crash, simply did not happen. He is lying through his teeth and not very good at it. As the investigation begins into what really happened, the District Attorney, Dan Schroeder, drops another bombshell. In an unrelated matter, he informs her that George Enriquez, about to be indicted in all likelihood by the grand jury for insurance fraud has asked to make a deal. Enriquez told the DA, "I can give you Guzman." Like the Undersheriff, the DA has no idea what he meant and he never showed up for the meeting to explain. The obvious conclusion is that he meant the Undersheriff but she is unable to think of anything that she had to do with him beyond investigating some of his alleged insurance fraud. In fact, she is to be a major witness when the Grand Jury convenes. When Enriquez is found dead of what was supposed to appear as a self-inflicted gunshot, the eye of suspicion naturally falls on the Undersheriff. While nothing is said to her, the word soon spreads while she tries to work the motorcycle crash case. At the same time, she can't stay away from this new problem and thanks to her sterling reputation is allowed some free reign to work that case as well. Steven F Havill has always managed to work unconnected and very complicated twin storylines in his novels and this is no exception. While the easy familiarity of the Gastner novels are gone in favor of the stiffer prose reflecting the temperament of the primary character, Undersheriff Guzman, the read is still quite enjoyable. Nothing could replace Gastner, his constant battle against insomnia and his penchant for driving the county at all hours of the night as he ruminated on a case. However, in her own way, Guzman is becoming more and more a major viable figure in her own novels. Undersheriff Guzman ruminates as well in her own way and with the stylistic changes, the author makes it clear that while it may feature many of the same very familiar characters, this is a different series. Despite the changes, which do take some getting used to, this book and new series, is well worth the read.
exciting police procedural thriller by .. Harriet Klausner () It's a quiet night in Posadas County, New Mexico as Undersheriff Estella Reyes-Guzman heads to her car when she notices a motorcycle being chased by a patrol car without the lights flashing or the sirens sounding. By the time she reaches the accident scene the young woman is dead and Patrolman Perry Kenderman tries to lie his way out of some potentially serious charges. Perry was angry at Colette Parker because she intended to run off with his younger brother and take her kids (one of whom might be his) with her. While this scenario occurs, local insurance dealer George Enriquez, who is under a grand jury indictment for fraud, is found in his office with a bullet in his head. The murder was clumsily made to look like a suicide. After giving temporary custody of Collette's two children to their grandparents, Estelle is free to work on the homicide investigation until it gets a little too close to home. Every visit to Posada County is an adventure and A DISCOUNT FOR DEATH is no exception. As one investigation winds down, another revs up so that readers find themselves unable to tear themselves away from this exciting police procedural thriller. Steven F. Havill is a talented writer who is an expert at creating believable characters and plausible plots. Harriet Klausner

Customer reviews Overall, a waste of time and money by .. Loyd R. Vaughn (California) On "Mold Illness and Mold Remediation", I did not like the book. I think some very dangerous statements were made. It is too bad because I really like the co-authored book "Mold Warriors". The cartoons were silly and out of context. There are 33 full page poorly drawn cartoons in a very small book. Several lists were repeated, seemingly to add bulk to the thin manual. Almost nothing was written about remediation, and that was part of the title of the book. There were misspelled words. There was very little mentioned about trade or industry standards/guidelines. Black and white pictures mentioned "red' arrows, I could go on, but it is not worth it. I hope I can get a refund. Do not waste your time and money.
Excellent and Useful Information on Mold and Remediation by .. Jane Mills () Dr. Schaller's book on mold illness and removing mold is clear, amusing, a fast read, and filled with important information that can be readily used. It is an up to date book, which includes the affects of mold on the body and moldy building recovery and prevention. He vividly depicts how mold affects the body and brain from moldy and musty schools, homes and businesses, and also describes why most remediation work is junk
His co-author is a master remediator and builder with 13 mold remediator and removal books and a PhD in biochemistry, which obviously gives him an expertise in mold chemicals. Mold Illness and Mold Remediation Made Simple is not simplistic and filled with the obvious, but it is well written and easy to understand. It is progressive medicine, containing the latest research, health information and remediation information. The illustrative cartoons and photographs are amusing and informative and show required lessons fast. This is an excellent resource for anyone who has experienced mold exposure or knows of someone who has, such as a relative or a friend. I have relatives and friends actively reading this book as I write, who now understand the cause of some of their health issues, like chronic sinus infections. Indoor mold is serious. The symptoms created by mold exposure, which are not commonly known, can include allergy symptoms, chronic fatigue, and fibromyalgia, and Dr. Schaller does a superb job explaining dozens of possible symptoms such as headaches, weight gain, agitation, depression and brain "fog," as well as many unique abnormal labs that can arise from mold exposure.
My family and friends found the information contained in this book to be very useful and helpful to improving our health. Dr Schaller also discusses various means of helping to eliminate mold, including some that are very economical. He gives smart suggestions for helping to locate the source of mold in any location, as well.
As a research medical doctor and certified mold investigator and remediator (CMI and CMR), Dr. Schaller shares the most recent research in his books, and my entire family has improved our health tremendously thanks to his works, including this book! What he does works and his patients get better, they do not just talk about getting better "someday" in the distant future. Our abnormal labs have been reversing!

Mold toxins can cause many illnesses, including Attention Deficit Disorders, Insomnia, etc by .. Steven Sponaugle () Mold toxins can cause many illnesses, including Attention Deficit Disorders, Learning Disorders,Insomnia, Anxiety, Irritability, Mood Swings, Joint Pain, Headache, Chemical Sensitivity,Chronic Fatigue, Fibromyalgia, Obesity, Blurred Vision, Itching and Rashes. The Environmental Protection Agency reports 30 percent of buildings in the US, have mold. This book describes how to find and measure mold growth and toxins, in buildings and how to test for and treat mold toxicity in patients.
Our Florida Detox patients love this book. Mold neurotoxins can cause addictions to alcohol, opiate pain pills, Xanax, Klonopin or other benzodiazepine tranquilizers. Some of our patients have experienced dramatic decreases in anxiety or insomnia, merely by moving out of mold infested dwellings. Mold Illness and Mold Remediation Made Simple, by James Schaller, MD and Gary Rosen, PhD, was written in a comprehensible style, for patients, who often are suffering memory and concentration impairments. The book contains numerous cartoon drawings, which help make it more understandable, if you are suffering "brain fog."
The discussion of mold toxins in buildings, includes advanced, state of the art testing techniques, including laser particle counters, and infrared photography to detect hidden mold growth. Inexpensive, practical advice discussing how to safely change air conditioning filters, which filters to use, and how to control humidity are also included.
Medical testing for mold toxicity, immune impairment and hormonal depression is complex, but Dr. Schaller briefly discusses some tests, which help indicate whether patients suffer mold toxicity and how the toxins are attacking the body. Although not a complete list of tests usually performed by Dr. Schaller, the 13 blood tests, discussed in this book, would likely detect abnormalities, if mold toxins were harming a patient. Lymes Disease neurotoxins can produce many of the same symptoms as mold toxins and Dr. Schaller explains why Lymes is so underdiagnosed and which laboratories actually perform accurate testing. If you are weary of physicians telling you your symptoms are all in your head and you need to see a psychiatrist, find a physician who will order these tests. Many physicians will not be familiar with the MMP 9, TNF alpha, MSH alpha, VIP, Myelin Basic Protein, Complement C3a, VEGF or Interleukin 1 beta tests, but they will frequently detect abnormalities, which more common tests will miss.
Many public schools and governmental buildings contain mold toxins. The authors explain many public schools become mold incubators in the summer, when air conditioning systems are shut down to save money. Modern school construction, with flat roofs, central air conditioning and heating systems and windows which cannot be opened, increases the probability of mold neurotoxins. The authors suggest mold in public schools contributes to attention deficits and learning disorders.
Mold Warriors or Desperation Medicine contain more thorough discussions of the medical aspects of mold toxins, along with informative case histories, but Mold Illness and Mold Remediation Made Simple is an informative introduction and overview of mold toxicity and building remediation, especially if your concentration is impaired by fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue or chemical dependency.

Product Description "Put Option Writing Demystified" is the only book devoted exclusively to the subject of generating double-digit income returns from a little-known, often misunderstood and conservative investment opportunity known as "put option writing." In fact, it can be more conservative than simply owning stocks alone. And the good news is that this strategy works best during slow growth, flat or even slightly declining markets. This book fully stands on its own merits, but it can also be viewed as a companion text to "Covered Call Writing Demystified" (see the book description on Amazon.com for more information). Hence the similarity in name. These are the reasons: * Put option writing and covered call writing have essentially the same reward and risk characteristics…When used as outlined in the book, they are very conservative (unlike other uses of options) * Investors using covered call writing will find opportunities to use put option writing to achieve similar double-digit investment results, but also to have the opportunity to purchase stocks or Exchange Traded Funds at a discount from their present value. * The put option writing and covered call writing strategies can both be used within the same portfolio to achieve similar results by differing means, depending on the investor’s objectives regarding the individual stock or ETF in question. What is put option writing? Have you been tempted at times to buy a particular stock, but decided not to take the plunge because you thought it might be overpriced…or, just on a hunch, you thought you might be able to pick up the shares at a lower price? Not only might it be possible for you to buy that stock for less, but what if someone were willing to pay you cash today at a double-digit return rate and also give you the opportunity to buy it at a lower price later? Does that sound too good to be true? It’s not. It’s called "put option writing," and it’s available to you on literally thousands of stocks and Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs). Put option writing can be compared with placing a limit order to buy the stock or ETF of your choice at a lower price that you set…and then being paid for it. And, you get paid whether the stock falls to your price or not! "Put Option Writing Demystified" is totally focused on providing (1) the education you need to fully understand the concepts behind put option writing and (2) a unique easy-to-follow program so that you can implement the strategy yourself without the help of a full-service broker or investment manager. The book delves deeply into the subject of how to obtain double-digit returns from both out-of-the-money puts and in-the-money puts, with out-of-the money puts being the principal recommended strategy both for realizing the opportunity to achieve consistent double-digit investment returns while you wait to acquire stocks or ETFs of your choice at a discount to their present market value. It also provides short-term technical analysis tools to assist in guiding market forecasts and making even more profitable put writing decisions. On May 3, 2003 after the annual meeting of his company, Warren Buffett (Chairman of Berkshire Hathaway) said to Maria Bartiromo of CNBC: "If you own equities, over the next twenty or thirty years you’ll get a reasonable return…maybe its 6%, maybe its 7%. People who expect 15% a year are doomed to disappointment." If you believe that "The Oracle of Omaha" is right about a slow-growth market for decades to come, then everything that you need as an investor is here for you in this book to develop and implement a put option writing program that will help you achieve double-digit returns. In addition to presenting everything you need to know about put option writing and how to implement your own personal put writing program the book provides: * Use of a uniquely designed Microsoft® Excel spreadsheet for put writing to assist in reviewing writing selection alternatives so that the best decisions for you are reached to achieve your investment return goal. * Details about brokerage accounts, with special emphasis on the use of online discount brokerages for quick, very low cost execution of trades. Web sites for brokerages, charting sources and other technical information are provided. * Tax information you need for understanding and administering the income tax aspects of put option writing. This includes the opportunity for deferring taxation of income until a later tax year while enjoying the use of the income now. How will the baby boomers be able to generate sufficient income on their investments to enjoy a secure retirement? And how will they and others younger than them be able to create a sufficient asset base to provide for their financial security with the dire predictions for the long-term future that we cannot expect markets to perform anywhere near as well as they have in the past? With interest rates so low and a scarcity of acceptable investment alternatives available to investors, put option writing, as well as covered call writing, may offer two of the best possible opportunities to achieve consistent double-digit investment returns in the slow-growth market we seem sure to encounter ahead. Customer reviews Misled by .. James R. Reardon (Texas) The title for this book is patently misleading. Introduction to put options would be more apprpriate; nothing is 'demystified'; granting different levels of experience in options trading if you know the difference between a put and a call save your money. As is the usual with these types of books half to two thirds of the book is devoted to explaining options.
Good Information /Book itself is poor quality by .. R. Kick () I ordered the book new, I found the data useful and assisted my in proving a point that i needed to prove. Highlighting and tabbing book caused ink to distort to the point of making the pages blank. Ink just falls off page. I expected better for the cost....

A TRULY AMAZING INVESTMENT IDEA! by .. William Knapp (Nebraska) I would highly recommend this book to any stock investor who is looking for some new ideas to earn back the money they've lost in the bear market. Who ever heard of being paid immediate cash to wait to buy stocks at a lower price? That's what this book taught me to how to do. It sounds too good to be true, but I know it works because I've done it after reading the book. I wanted to buy the Nasdaq 100 Trust (QQQ) at a lower price. Instead of just waiting to see if it went lower, I wrote put contracts on the QQQ at my buy price using what I learned in the book. I collected $485 in cash in my brokerage account the next day. The stock didn't hit my price, so I didn't buy it the first month, but I got to keep the $485, which was a 24% return on an annual basis. The next month I did the same thing (collected $625 this time). My price was hit and I bought the QQQ shares for 15% less than the price when I started this. In the meantime I collected $1,110 while I waited to buy my shares for 15% less. This is explained so well that anyone can do it. Nobody I know seems to know about this. It's all in this book.

Product Description This is the first book to explain the new reality of financial aid-in which scholarships, discounts, and deal-making reduce the sticker price at even the best schools. The book uses a unique two-part format to take parents through the financial aid maze. Part I: The Aid Process is the most up-to-date financial aid guide available, explaining how to find and make the best deals and how to review competing aid packages. Part II: The Colleges lists which colleges give which kinds of aid and scholarships, and gives a descriptive essay on each of the 360 best colleges in the US. Customer reviews Very Useful Information by .. () This book allows you to zero in on a college that gives out scholarships. Merit scholarships are the most plentiful and this book outlines what each college expects and also gives the amounts each college will award. Most other scholarship books I found a waste of time and money. This book does need to be updated though.
Adequate information for anxious college hopefuls by .. Christine Papio (Henderson, Nevada United States) Overall the book was comprehensive enough in the sense that it covered about 360 summaries on individual colleges and the types of unique financial aid that they offer. It also acts somewhat in part as a college guide because the author separates the colleges according to the most competitve, the highly competitive, and the competitive ones while also listing their individual acceptance rates. There is also significant info on FAFSA and PROFILE forms and a history on the federal government's policy on giving financial aid. The only thing that I warn potential readers is that the deadlines listed regarding the colleges are dreadfully outdated in many of the universities included here. Also, it would've been helpful if he had included the average financial aid package per college or the address of the college just for reference. This is a pretty sufficient book though for those who want to get the whole scheme of things and a little bit more, and for those who want to get a head start on the financial aid game. When I applied for financial aid to my colleges, I always had this book handy - so the money spent in buying this was overall not wasted.
Very helpful! by .. Susannah (Cleveland, OH) This is a precise, insightful reference for people seeking relevant information in readable form about the complex topic of financial aid. It has been a popular resource among our high school seniors. Highly recommended!
A canny hybrid of lists, resources and pithy profiles by .. () This book is divided roughly in half between a savvy analysis of recent trends in college finance and financial aid and thumbnail sketches of over 300 of the top colleges and universities in the country. The balance seems about right. When one's eyes begin to glaze over from the sheer volume of acronyms and hair splitting definitions of "need-blind" and and other terms of art, one can always flip to the college profiles and read a refreshingly frank exposition on, say, the difference between Wesleyan, Amherst and Williams. The fact that no one description exceeds one paragraph makes for exceptional doctor's office or short sit reading.
Comprehensive Financial Aid book by .. MiamiU72@aol.com (Kathy) (CT) I was impressed by the amount of information in this book. Wish it had been published last year when we were going through the admissions process. It is a book I will highly recommend to my online parents group who have students in the college admissions process. It is great to have a book that addresses school specific scholarships.

Product Description Business Valuation Discounts and Premiums There is often more money in dispute in determining the discounts and premiums in a business valuation than in arriving at the pre-discount valuation itself. Discounts and premiums affect not only the value of the company but also play a crucial role in determining the risk involved, control issues, marketability, contingent liability, and a host of other factors that can make or break a deal. It is essential that every appraiser know when discounts and premiums apply and how to quantify them. Shannon Pratt’s Business Valuation Discounts and Premiums compiles all the key information you need to successfully and accurately determine discounts and premiums in business valuations. It explores the three areas of discounts and premiums–income valuation, market valuation, and the asset approach–explaining how different discounts or premiums may be applicable, depending on the basic valuation approach used, and how each approach can affect the outcome. Filled with many never-before-published studies, the comprehensive coverage includes: - Strategic acquisitions
- Extensive empirical data
- Pre-IPO marketability discount studies
- Merger and acquisition negotiations, empirical evidence from completed transactions, and positions taken by courts in litigation
- Strategic acquisitions on premiums
- Studies on minority discounts, available for the first time
Written by a recognized authority on business valuation, this book will help you master the complex issues and exploit the numerous uses for premiums and discounts to their utmost. Related Search : business valuation , discounts premiums |
