Customer reviews Good beginners book by .. Gini Tucker (Mississippi) My daughter and I are new to digital scrapbooking and wanted to find a book to help us get started. I still like using my paper, stickers and embellishments, but she (age 25) is loving the digital because it's less mess!
Try it-- you'll like it! It takes some time to figure out how to get started, but I can see that it will be really helpful to share online with friends and family who don't live nearby. This book is a great start!!
Also look online for various digital scrapbooking websites that give you colorful ideas.
GOOD BOOK! by .. R. AUBEL (Pittsburgh, Pa) I am new to scrabooking, both paper and digital. This book is very helpful to anyone who wants to expand their scrapbooking into the digital world.
Always reliable by .. A. Kieffer (Bend, Oregon USA) As with all the "for Dummies" books, this one is logically laid out and easy to use. I recommend it for any one starting out in digital scrapbooking. It takes you from the very basic to the more complex and beyond, with clear illustrations and photos (even some in color.)
Beginner's Guide to Digital Scrapbooking. by .. Virginia Allain (Poinciana, FL) Using the standard "For Dummies" format, the book explains the equipment and software for digital scrapbooking. It starts with the very basic, helping you decide if you need a newer computer and printer for this hobby. It reviews the various scrapbooking software available so you can choose the best for your situation.
It covers enhancing digital photos, considerations for page designs and how to fix damaged photos. Also covered is how to add texturing and how to make montage images. One part explains sharing your finished pages on CD or DVD or over the internet. There was much that was new to me (flattened image vs a native format file). They advise clearing out clutter from your computer (games, unused programs, defrag), since digital scrapbooking needs lots of storage space.
The final part of the book is in list format: 10 tips, 10 pitfalls, 10 ways to involve kids, 10 ways to use digital techniques with traditional scrapbooking.
Sprinkled throughout are cute cartoons, but few photos. Since scrapbooking is very visual, I missed seeing examples to match the design explanations.

Hart (Idaho) The text places most of its emphasis on image processing of digital images. That's not surprising as the authors' bio's state they are enthusiastic Paint Shop Pro people. The buyer is implicitly expected to have a copy of an image processing software. I cannot recommend this book for those looking for a strong emphasis on scrapbooking.
Excellent, if now somewhat dated, introduction to digital scrapbooking by .. Jerry Saperstein (Evanston, IL USA) Published in 2004, this book is a bit dated. A few of the software publishers mentioned have been merged, acquired or gone out of business and all the products still published have had multiple new editions released. None of this, however, reduces the utility of this fine introduction to digital scrapbooking.
The authors begin with the absolute basics and move onward from there, which for the beginner to scrapbooking, much less digital scrapbooking, is an excellent route to take.
They begin with a (pretty dated) review of digital photography and move on to the essentials of image editing. Layouts are next followed by using photographs creatively, which is where the book starts getting really interesting. From here they move onto adding and manipulating text elements, how to use filters, plug-ins and effects and more on image processing. More advanced topics include making your own elements to use in your creations, such as backgrounds, buttons, ribbons and fibers.
Overall, this is an excellent and very well done introduction to digital scrapbooking. It may be a bit on the older side (four years!) but is still an excellent way to get into the craft.
Jerry
Excellent for beginners and more by .. A. M. Ferrell (Tipp City, Ohio United States) I purchased this book before I committed to a particular software and it was so helpful. I used it to practice with free trial copies of various softwares to help me decide which one I wanted to go with. The examples are great. The text is easy to follow and thorough. I am very satisfied with this book and learned everything I needed to get started and even do some advanced techniques!
Great Ideas, Needs updated for Photoshop Elements 4.0 by .. Chad W. Hightower () I bought this book for a start in digital scrapbooking. It is great for teaching some of the basics, but I have Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0 and the latest it includes is 2.0. Quite a few of the operations have changed when trying to do such things at adding shadows and combining layers. Needless to say I had to buy another book for 4.0. This has some great ideas however and some good information on filters.
The one book to buy by .. Jennia Hart (CA, United States) This is it, the one book you need to learn digital scrapbooking. Sally gives you clear concise step-by-step instructions that will take you from the basics of digital scrapbooking to more advanced techniques.
Chapter by chapter you will build your skills. Then have fun with the CD full of digital scrapbooking supplies. Paint Shop Pro is a great digital scrapbooking program and Sally is definitely a GREAT Paint Shop Pro teacher!!
(Sally's other books are great as well.)

Product Description Best-selling author, designer, and instructor Renee Pearson shows step-by-step how deceptively simple it is to create stunning digital design elements like backgrounds, tags, brads, frames-even digital chipboard! This sequel to her wildly popular first book, Digital Designs for Scrapbooking, takes scrapbookers beyond the basics of digital layout design. Each time they finish the easy-to-follow steps in one of the book's ten lessons, they'll have created dazzling digital elements they can use right away in their scrapbooking projects. Customer reviews Fantastic Resource by .. K. Davis (Baltimore , MD) This is a fantastic book. I had absolutely NO experience with Photoshop Elements or digital scrapbooking before opening this book, and I had no trouble following the "lessons". I now feel comfortable at a basic level not only with PSE, but also with creating digital scrapbook elements (papers, embellishments, brushes, effects). I can't wait to dive into all the other digital magazines I have. I was so impressed I found a used copy of her first digital scrapbooking book online and purchased it. Highly recommended for those interested in getting their feet wet with digital scrapbooking, especially creating their own elements. Also, fear not if you have a newer version of PSE than the 5.0 she works with in the book. I have PSE 7.0, and had little difficulty. There was only one button I could not find while going through the exercises, and I'm sure if I searched help, I could locate it if I wanted to.
Great book. by .. Julie Booker (Kansas) Great book with easy, step by step instructions. If you want to get started making your own elements and papers this is a great way to get started
Excellent resource by .. P. Moore (McKenney, VA United States) I've been digi scrapping for about a year and learned tips the moment I opened this book. Some of the techniques are a bit more advanced than I need at the moment, but I'm sure I'll turn to them later. Renee Pearson's directions are easy to follow and much better than trying to follow an online tutorial as I (try to) work. I only wish I could find a copy of her first digital designs book. It's out of print and I can't locate it anywhere :(
Beginners Basics by .. Stephanie (Addison, Texas) This book is great for designer beginners with little working knowledge of Photoshop Elements. The instructions are very simple to follow and easy to remember when re-creating on your own. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested designing digital kits of your own.
Not what I expected, but surprisingly well done. by .. K. J. Mendoza (Space Coast, FL, USA) This book uses a specific software product to teach you digital scrapbooking in a hands on, step-by-step process. As a self-taught digi-scrapper, I can look at this book objectively and tell you that it is chock full of excellent information. This is a great book for beginners, while still having plenty of good information for experienced digi-scrappers.

Customer reviews My daughter loved this by .. P. Soine (Granite Falls, MN United States) I got this for my daughter, a graphic designer, for a gift. She loved it.
for newbies by .. scrapbooking mom (France) this book is perfect for someone who begins digital scrapbooking but less interesting for advanced digiscrappers.
AT LAST!! by .. whatnext (New York, NY) I decided to give digital scrapping a try, but after attempting to approach it via trying to understanding Photoshop Elements 4, I was plowed under by techno-babble and almost gave up. Next I tried to find some tutorials online that were well-written or clearly-presented and easy to understand. Generally speaking, forget it. Thankfully I happened upon this book. Let me just say that any fool (even one as digi-clueless as I am) can jump into digital scrapping with Renee Pearson holding your hand. The book's clearly written. It's helpfully illustrated. It's methodically laid out. In short, YOU CAN UNDERSTAND WHAT THE HECK SHE'S TALKING ABOUT!
OK if you have Adobe Photoshop Elements 3.0 by .. A. M. Ferrell (Tipp City, Ohio United States) I purchased this book thinking it was a good introduction into digital scrapbooking. It seems like a nicely laid out book, but it is only for Adobe Photoshop Elements 3.0 users. There is a trial version of PSE 3.0 on the included CD, but PSE 3.0 is no longer available to buy anywhere. So although the layouts look nice and the included CD has a lot of goodies on it, I was looking for something that could give me a better overview of all the various softwares people use for digital scrapbooking, rather than a primer for Elements 3.0.
Great Product by .. Paul R. Bond (AZ) This is a great product for anyone sho wants to do digital scrapbooking.

Mendoza (Space Coast, FL, USA) I agree with previous reviews. However, I do want to mention that the links to free downloads mentioned in a previous review were time sensitive and no longer active. It's still a great magazine. I do both digital and traditional scrapbooking, and the layouts in this issue can be used both ways. I like to print my digital pages and then further embellish them. These layouts give me plenty of design options.

We can all learn more.......I feel the book is going to be useful. Hopefully it will get me up and really doing digital scrapbooking.....it looks easier than it is. The book is well layed out and very organized. I would recommend this book to a new digital scrapbooker like myself.....have fun with it and get up and doing it......
Great reference--easy to use--and Mac friendly by .. Jane Healy (Blue Island, IL USA) I hesitated to buy this book without seeing it 'in hand' first. I took the chance and I am *so* very glad that I did. This is an excellent reference book. It's an easy read, is extremely helpful, and it provided me with more information than I realized I needed. The author is experienced, opinionated, and direct; all of which lead to a book that is emininently useful.
One of my fears in buying this book was that it would be so biased toward PC users that it would be useless for me as a Mac user. I was extremely pleased to find out that was far from the case. In fact, the author has written several books on working with the Macintosh computer. That said, this book is meaningful to ANY computer scrapbooker, regardless of their computer platform or operating system.
Finally, the book includes reviews and recommendations on software, printers, etc, which I found very helpful.
Blend Digital and Traditional Scrapbooking by .. Diane Cipollo (Editor at BellaOnline.com) Digital scrapbooking has become very popular and in this book the author, Carla Rose, shows you how to blend digital and traditional scrapbooking to expand your creativity.
Your first step to creating a scrapbook is deciding on a theme or story to tell. Based on that, you choose a style that reflects your project and yourself. Now you are ready to gather your tools and get started creating. Rose discusses the tools for traditional scrapbooking and what is needed to go digital. She covers the advantages and limitations of several software programs.
Moving on to page design, Rose discusses aspects of page composition such as the use of white space and leading to enhance the readability of your pages. Next she explains the rule of thirds and how to use grids to help you design your pages around a center of interest which is usually, but not always, a photo or photos.
She discusses each page design element individually starting with background color and texture. She suggests creating background papers from scanned objects such as candy canes, leaves and fabric.
Rose then talks about photos. She discusses various corrections that you may need to make to old photos. She shows you step-by-step how to fix a badly damaged photo and how to turn a regular photo into a vignette (oval) shaped image. Next she covers correcting and enhancing your digital photos. She shows you how to blur the background area to enhance the subject of a photo. You may also need to make corrections to perspective, color, contrast or red eye.
She explores having fun with your photos by applying special effects and filters. Using plug-in filters and your software program, you can turn your photos into watercolor paintings or line art. You can also create a composite or collage from several photos.
Rose discusses the basics of typography and how to choose a font that will reflect the theme and style of your scrapbook. She discusses the special digital effects that you can add to your text such as drop shadows and embossing.
Publishing your scrapbook on the Internet has become very popular and Rose discusses the basics of webpage design and HTML. She has included the HTML code for a sample webpage to get you started.
Carla Rose is a professional photographer and Photoshop expert. She has written several computer books.
Meilleur livre de référence by ..
Now I have the best pictures to work with! by .. () I received this book as a mother's day present this year (after griping that I didn't know what to do with my digital pictures in my scrapbooks). The book is amazing and very easy to read and follow. Though I'm still exploring the huge amount of information, I've already used some of the techniques like turning photos into watercolors (you'd swear I spent hundreds of dollars having an artist do an original watercolor of my daughter when actually it only took me about 20 minutes to do it with Photoshop Elements). I am also going to get a lot of use out of the sections on using clip art instead of stickers or stamps and computer fonts instead of rub off letters. I'd recommend this book to anyone who needs new scrapbooking ideas!
