The title says it all. The objections some people have to the Thomas stories in the original Awdry versions, that they show people characters seeking revenge, or displaying various vices, that they don't want their kids to learn, are totally misplaced. Whenever a character suffers from a vice, he gets his comeuppance by the end of the story. So obviously the point of the stories is to teach that the vices are wrong. Kids know, after all, that doing wrong is an option, and they love to see what happens when characters "go off the tracks" (sometimes literally)--it's exciting and satisfying.
This volume is great in that it has all the Awdry stories, but I have one serious objection, which is why there are only 4 stars here, and that is that the pictures are simply too small. They should have simply made two or three volumes of this size and used larger (page-width) reproductions of the pictures. The pictures are so important to the stories.
Still, my little boy, a great Thomas fan, has been sitting through many of these stories even from an early age. It's not just the pictures, it's the stories and the characters above all.

I'm no longer a child (or have any), but I am still a bit of a child at heart. This is a wonderful, cherished volume that my wife and I enjoy picking up on occasion when we need to be reminded of childhood. The stories are wonderful. I wish every child was raised to follow and adhere to the morals taught in these stories.
Good book if your child is over 4 by .. Thomas Fan's Daddy (New York)
I purchased this book for my two year old not too long away. My 2 year old is very advanced and can name every Thomas character that appears in the Thomas and Friends tv show. This book was way too advanced for him. The art work is average and he lost interest very quickly. He was more interested in trying to rip the pages, or skate on top of the book! The stories are good, but I would suggest waiting until your child is older and can appreciate the book more.
Learning Curve and Brio took full marketing advantage of this book by making toy characters that were mentioned only in one story and then never again such as Neil, Mike, Culdee, Catherine, Ivo Hugh, The Flying Scotsman, Wilbert, Frank and Fred. My two year old now knows these characters and of course I feel compelled to buy them for him! Problem is many are retired and will cost alot of money to try to find them on Ebay or Amazon!
An amazing Thomas book by .. J. Wright ()
The condition of this book was as expected. This particular book is an amazing volume of Thomas stories. It has allowed us to meet some engines who we have never met before as well as get the back story on others who we only know a little. I enjoy it at least as much as my sons do.

I had a large coin book, but wanted the 100 hole for the 2 mints. This worked perfectly. It would have been nice to have them (D & P) side by side, but it folds up nicely, better than my last one. Yes, the quarters can be hard to place in the book, but for me, they stay put. I do not like the thin backing under the holes. I worry that if I push too hard, I might tear right through. I am still pleased with it, and have ordered several. It has made the quarter collecting more fun.

It is not a hard cover like it said it is. Philidelpia mints are on one side and Denver on another. I would have like to have seen the two mints together. Otherwise, coins fit in slots great and has interesting facts to read on the interior cover.

Just received this in the mail. Very pleased with the set and got it for significantly cheaper than what the pre-order price was! Just wanted to point out (and in response to the first review) that the title of the product on this page is maybe a bit misleading. The box that the set comes in is hardcover but the books are "in its original oversize paperback format" as it says in the product description. I was expecting hardcover but re-read the page after receiving the set. Not too disappointed though as still wanted the set as I wanted them for my kids and my little brother had circled all the stuff to find in my old copies!!

I saw a box that looked just like this in my local book store listed for $45 (the list price on Amazon at the time of this comment) last night and it was just a box with the 6 softcover books inside. While I have not purchased this specific edition from Amazon and it could well be a hardcover box set, I did not purchase it from my local store as I wanted the actual books to be hardcover and it's too much to gamble on for me to try ordering this from Amazon, afraid I'll get the same set I turned down at my local store. Please mark this comment not helpful in the event that you order one and it is actually hardcover.

I have to be completely honest with you, I think the love story behind Cabaret is extremely unnerving, even grotesque, However, I love the music, the music is beautiful. Although I like all of the songs, I do not think the singing from any of the productions can compete with the explosive performance combination of Joel Grey and Liza Minnelli in the film version of the show. Thankfully the book does not make you choose one production over the others, you get all three, and for a very low price. The book has three glossy pages in the front, each representing a different rendition of Cabaret with brightly colored pictures. On the bottem of each of these pages are the Tony or Academy Awards that were achieved by that specific production. A Small note: The musical Cabaret has won 12 Tonys and 8 Academy awards in its lifetime. The rest of the book is music, except for the chapter or show titles, which have black and white pictures from each production.
The music is great, however, it is the orchestral scores from the origional productions translated into piano, so not all of the music is there. You could compare it to "Raphsody in Blue" being performed on one piano rather than by a whole orhcestra, there are many notes missing when you try to put an orchestra into one piano. This is why I gave it 4 star. My music teacher has the music score from the movie for piano, and from seeing that sheet music, I can say that if you buy it from the productions individualy, you will have more accuracy in your music and lyrics, since each production has its own variation. In this book there is only one version of "Money,Money,Money" the movie version, and only one version of "Willkommen", the origional 1966 version. The problem with this is that "Money, Money, Money" is very differant in the new broadway production, and "Willkommen" is done differently in each production too, but only one version of each song is availiable in this book. I am still thrilled with the book, it's a wonderful addition to any music collection. It is harder music than your average broadway musical, so if you cannot play the piano, and do not plan on learning, I would advise you not to get this book. "Maybe This Time" is my favorite song in the book, a beautiful slow ballad. "Mein Heir" and "Money, Money, Money" are next to it; they are wonderful songs. The songs from the revival are obsolete in comparison to the earlier numbers, although, many of the numbers cut from the origional 1966 production are very worth while. The 1966 cut production number that have been added into the book are what make this book worth buying, they are fabulous numbers that never really had a day in the sun. I am still tempted to give the book 5 stars because it is wonderful music. If you like Cabaret at all, its music, or Kander and Ebb, its the perfect book to have, not just as a collecters item to sit on the shelf, but as a book you can play from all the time. As you might guess - for the title above - I'm a huge, I mean, HUGE, 'Cabaret' fan and collector. So, of course, I found this book delightful, but - taking the risk of making a fool out of myself - I must warn to anyone who doesn't know it that these are the scores of the songs. I bought it thinking that it was something else - I don't know exactly what -, and I don't regret it, but it's not what I expected it to be... Thanks God I have a pianist friend so he can play it for me :-)Anyway, it's a must-have for every 'Cabaret-collector' out there.
