Product Description Illustrated in full color. Open the barn door and take a tour around the barnyard to find out just who's making all those wonderful animal sounds. Customer reviews Both of my kids LOVED this little book & still do! by .. Kristie Finnan (Author of Mommy's High Heel Shoes) (Pennsylvania, USA) I bought this tiny book 4 years ago at one of our local book shops. It is now tattered and torn from all the use it has gotten over the years by both of my kids! But it is still one of their favorites. It has taken a beating and we still keep reading! This is the book that I keep in my purse or diaper bag to keep my kids occupied at a restaurant, in a waiting room or at the grocery store. It really is a simple little book with just the right number of peek a boo flaps! I highly recommend this tiny board book to any family on the go :)Mommy's High Heel Shoes
Great little book! by .. Elizabeth McWhorter (Ashland, OR United States) My daughter (now 2 years old) has loved this book since she was 8 months old. Its great for travel because it is small and because it has a lot of pages for a board book. I had to open the flaps for her when she was little but now she loves to do it herself. We used this book to teach her the sounds the animals make and now she is learning to say the names of the animals. It has held up well considering the heavy use its had. At two, it is still a favorite book. I'm glad we bought it.
Fun book! by .. Jaimie Weihermueller (Oklahoma, USA) My son, who is 11 months old, got this book a couple of months ago. He loves to lift the flaps and hear me make the animal sounds. I like the sturdiness of the book...it has already been through the ringers and all the flaps are still attatched! A good book for babies learning animals and their sounds.
Perfect book for little ones! by .. Julie E. Gee-fouhy () My son is a little over 1 1/2 years old. I bought him this book and it is his favorite with the hidden animals. He really enjoys making the animal sounds. The pictures are great and makes learning fun!!
Open the Barn Door by .. Carla S. Brancato (Crescent City, CA USA) My grand daughter likes it. Good book for young children with the flaps to open.

Product Description "Please" and "thank you" are fun and easy to remember with Excuse Me!. Simple and repetitive, it's the perfect way to introduce those magic words that all little ones should know. From burping to breaking a sibling's toy, toddlers will love seeing these appealing babies in situations they know all about, and they'll have fun lifting the flaps to discover the right words to say-"Excuse me!" and "I'm sorry!" Customer reviews Great for a two year old by .. Avid Reader in Maryland (Columbia, Maryland United States) This is an adorable book. The fact that it teaches manners is an added bonus. To me, the importance is that my two year old granddaughter can "read" it herself. At first I thought she could just give me the answers to the questions and that was cute enough. But then I overheard her "reading" it to her baby doll. What great self confidence this builds in a toddler. It is the best time to start building self esteem and making a child feel "smart".
1 1/2 year old's favorite book by .. A. Colyer () While I think the book will be terrific in a year to actually teach manners, at this point, my little guy is just entertained by the book. The pictures are simplistically expressive. He giggles every time we get to the second scenario (saying "Excuse me" when burping). He likes the participation of the turning pages. We typically end up reading this book 10 times a day, with my little fellow signing for more as I turn the last page....
What a wonderful world it would be if every child read this book! by .. Ann Clarke, children's book author (Florida) Just perfect for the Wee Ones. This little flap book shows the way to good manners without preaching. A perfect book delight any small child. Ann Clarke, author of People Are So Different! based on tolerance and understanding.
We LOVE this book! by .. Alexis's mommy in AZ (Mesa, AZ) My daughter and I have been reading Karen Katz books together since she was able to sit up. This is an excellent addition to our collection! My daughter is now two-and-a-half, and she just LOVES the lift-a-flaps in these books. We have been working on manners, so this book is perfect. After reading these books a few times together, my daughter is able to read it back to me from memory, and she feels so proud when she finishes a book by herself. I highly recommend this and all of the Karen Katz books!!
Teaches polite responses in a fun way by .. hre2 (Provo, UT) A book-loving toddler will delight in lifting the full-page flaps and repeating the polite phrases--some in response to silly requests. I have received more "No thank yous" and "Yes pleases" since reading this book with my child.

Product Description Colorful pictures and simple rhyming texts help children guess what's peeking through the die-cut windows in these two fun board books. The anticipation of what's hiding on the next page and th bright, engaging illustrations will keep youngsters guessing and giggling all the way to the suprise endings. Customer reviews My 9 Month Old loves this book! by .. S. Allihan (Santa Barbara, CA) She loves the holes in the book and the surprise at the end! (her image in the mirror) it is her current favorite. Peek a boo is an often used phrase for her right now and her favorite game, so using different words for "boo" is super funny to her!
eh.... by .. Dom's Mom (Chicago, IL) This book is just okay. The pictures are cute and vivid which I like, but it's very simplistic and VERY short. My kids (3 years and 18 months) just aren't all that excited by it. It's a fine book, but I'm surprised by all the 5 star ratings. Expectations were set a bit high, I guess.
Loves it! by .. Cookie (Utah) I got this adorable book for my toddler granddaughter. She absolutely loves it! She's learning to talk and after just a couple times through the book she knew exactly which "who" was coming up on the next page. She has had a lot of fun with the book. She really loves to see herself at the end of the book in the mirror. I'm so glad I got this for her and glad that she is getting so much enjoyment out of it. It's a real treasure for little ones. I highly recommend it!
cute book good for infants by .. K. Yoon (Davis, CA United States) My daughter is 7 months old and I'm not sure if she gets the concept of peek-a-boo yet (she doesn't seem to get that the pages have cut-outs), but at least she loves the last page with the mirror (peek-a-you!). Good sturdy board book to bite and slobber all over. I'm glad I bought this book.
One book I couldn't get rid of! by .. Moms Lifesavers (Massachusetts) I must say, while organizing some book shelves for my two school age daughers I came across this book. I can't tell you how emotional I got! This book is so sweet, gentle and the perfect first book for a young child. I will save my copy for my grandchildren, due in 15 years! :)

Great for Art Teachers too! by .. Cvat11 (NC, USA) This book has amazing images of collage to create animals, and students love the content as well!
Wonderful book! by .. Anna M. Cech () I bought this book for my preschool classroom. The kids can't get enough of it and they love guessing which tail belongs to which animal. It's a great early reader for them too!
What DO you do with a tail like this? by .. Matthew J. Baek (Maryland, USA) A very beautifully illustrated smart book, WHAT DO YOU DO WITH A TAIL LIKE THIS helps kids think outside the box. My 3 year old daughter found it interesting the some creature have ears, mouth, etc. in other place then us humans. The book that starts with a question ends with wanting to ask more questions like the one my daughter asked, "Why do flies have 6 legs and spiders have 8?" I really couldn't answer why but I think this book helped her be more observant.
Interestingly beautiful illustrations help grab attention too, that was the reason I purchased this book in first place. The artist captures every necessary detail with his unique, almost surreal style which permeates throughout the book.
Small wonder this book has received so much attention! by .. Ann Clarke, children's book author (Florida) One of the loveliest and most thought out books to hit children's bookshelves in years! The information is so interesting and presented together with such unusual paper art the book just captivates its reader. Product Description Everyone loves a children's book. And many dream about writing one. But is it actually possible for an unpublished writer—armed with a good story idea and a love of kids—to write, sell, publish, and promote a book? Yes, it is! Veteran children's book publishing executive and author Lisa Rojany Buccieri and author Peter Economy show you how, in their incredibly useful 2005 first edition of Writing Children's Books For Dummies®. Buccieri and Economy begin by explaining the basics of the children's book business, from the nuts and bolts of the various formats and genres—with helpful illustrations to aid you—to the intricacies of the book publishing market, a list of recent award-winning books, and a first peek into the particular mind set that writing children's books requires. (Hint: Throw out the adult rules, and think like a kid!) Then the authors dive into the actual writing process itself, with tips on setting up a workspace, brainstorming great book ideas, researching the subject you decide on, even speaking with the sorts of kids you hope will eventually read the book. They show you how to create compelling characters and develop them in the manuscript; how to outline and write a plot "arc" of conflict, change, and resolution; how to master the difficult art of writing dialogue; and how to use active (rather than passive) language to keep your story moving along and interesting to young minds. Or, if you're planning to write a creative nonfiction children's book—on a topic such as science, nature, or a historical figure, for example—the authors include a chapter on this, too. Ready, set, go… it's time to sit down and write! Once you've finished your book, however, the process has only begun. Now you will refine, submit, and hopefully sell your manuscript. Here again, the authors of Writing Children's Books For Dummies come through for you. They deliver solid advice on hiring an illustrator—or not; participating in workshops and conferences to learn the business and hone a story; finding an agent; and, finally, submitting the manuscript to publishers and—if you are successful—signing a contract. Along the way, the authors also include tips on handling rejection; a quick primer on the various editors in publishing houses (and how they work to make your book its best); and making a plan to publicize the book, including hiring a publicist if necessary. Like all For Dummies® books, Writing Children's Books For Dummies highlights "The Part of Tens," which includes the Ten Best Ways to Promote Your Story and More Than Ten Great Sources for Storylines. And the ever-helpful Cheat Sheet includes Tips for Editing your Children's Book Manuscript, Children's Book No-No's, Twelve Commandments for Writing Younger Children's Books, and Tips on Promotion. From setting down that first word on paper to doing a successful publicity tour, Writing Children's Books For Dummies gives you the confidence and the insiders' know-how to write and sell the story you've always wanted to write. Customer reviews Enlightening by .. R. M. Putnam (Portland, OR) This book was very enlightening. Product Description Why are none of the students in Raphael's school paying attention? Who made a doodle into a masterpiece? How do you paint speed? Can collecting things be art? What kind of sculpture is supposed to disappear? Can you trust a painting? How would you make a self-portrait of yourself? Can you paint music? Following the international success of THE ART BOOK FOR CHILDREN (BOOK ONE), this second volume will continue to expand the minds and creativity of children aged from seven to eleven. Thirty new artists and key examples of their works have been selected to encourage children to ask why the artists do what they do. Both volumes of THE ART BOOK FOR CHILDREN are fun for young readers, ideal tools for teachers and parents, and perfect introductions for all those approaching art for the first time. Customer reviews Jump start your creative juices by .. M. Pharr (Asheville, NC United States) I checked this out from the library and kept it so long, I decided I needed to have my own copy. I am purchasing it, not only for myself and children to look at and discover the art, but as a resource for art projects at the camp I work for. It gets your wheels turning about all the different media and types of art.
Great interactive art book! by .. D. Croker (Nashville, TN USA) This book, along with the Art Book for Children Book One, is a wonderfully imaginative collection of art. Each piece is complemented with great background on the work of art and interactive questions. This isn't an academic resource with a lot of historical or biographical detail, but one that will instill wonder in the reader (including adults). It is PERFECT for children, whether they love to draw or not, and for the folks who read these books to kids. Moms, dads, aunts, uncles, grannies and grandpas -- you'll be really thanked if you get these for the children in your life. Both of my girls, ages 5 and 9, love these two books. Buy them both!

Educational, But Not Entertaining by .. C. P. Jackson (Fairfax, VA USA) Based on the book's description and my quickly reading some of the laudable reviews published here, I thought "The Art Book for Children" would be the perfect gift for one of my favorite 11-year olds, an art-prize winner. Surprisingly, it's two days after Christmas and still he hasn't shown much interest in it. Today, his mother read through it and announced that she "doesn't like it." Because she's an art lover and all-around creative person in her own right, I was a bit flummoxed. Neither of them - nor I - can articulate exactly why this book doesn't work the expected magic. It's more than an introduction with seemingly all the right ingredients: various forms, thought-provoking commentary, works familiar to students and written at an age-appropriate reading level. What's not to like? Perhaps it's the anthology format that makes it difficult to see a pattern, to connect the ideas that tie together the different approaches to making art. Maybe it's the missing world-view: a focus heavy on pre-1950 European and American artists. Regardless of the possible reasons that "The Art Book" misses the mark, the real joy killer is the need for an adult hand to guide this 6th grader through it like a classroom lesson. That's no fun, and voluntary reading should be.

Product Description In the eight years since this blockbuster anthology of 44 classic picture books of the 20th century was compiled, important new picture books have been published that Janet Schulman believes are too good to miss. She has selected 15–some by brand-new voices of the 21st century, some by young authors and illustrators who were just getting started during the last decade of the past century, and a few by familiar names, such as Kevin Henkes with his 2005 Caldecott Medal Winner. This recommended list with descriptive annotations is intended to guide parents to these new books and new voices of the 21st century. Unparalleled in scope and quality and designed for reading aloud and sharing, this splendid anthology brings together some of the most memorable and beloved children's books of our time. Here are classics such as Madeline and Curious George; contemporary bestsellers such as Guess How Much I Love You and The Stinky Cheese Man; Caldecott Medal winners such as Make Way for Ducklings and Where the Wild Things Are; and family favorites such as Goodnight Moon, The Sneetches, and Winnie-the-Pooh. The selections range from concept books and wordless books to picture books and short read-aloud stories, and represent the complete array of childhood themes and reading needs: ABCs, number and color books, stories about going to bed and going to school; tales about growing up, siblings, parents, and grandparents; animal stories, fantasies; fables; magical stories; stories about everyday life--and more. Also included are an introduction, capsule biographies of the 62 writers and artists represented in the collection, color-coded running heads indicating age levels, and indexes. As a gift, a keepsake, and a companion in a child's first steps toward a lifelong love of reading, The 20th Century Children's Book Treasury belongs in every family's bookcase. Customer reviews the kids love the book & I love the price by .. Kimberly A. Smith (sumter,s.c.) Great collection of childen stories by .. LadySihaya (Bs.As., Argentina) This is truly a wonderful collection of classic children stories if you want to have great variety but have space or money issues. As another reviewer stated, it's ideal for travel or to explore new children stories and decide which ones to buy in a separate and full edition.
However it's a pity that because of a space issue, they have decided to leave out some pictures. Also, I have seen other anthologies (e.g. Your favorite Seuss: A baker's dozen by the one and only Dr. Seuss) that have managed to join in one page spread several pictures of a storybook in a more coherent way... Here, in some of the stories they have done it nicely, in others (e.g. Good Night Moon) they have just pasted into a page spread several pages of the book in very small detail. It's a pity that they couldn't make the book a bit bigger and longer to include the pictures in greater detail, or that they didn't edit two separate volumes so that they could fit the stories better.
As a plus, the stories are color-coded and cover a great variety of age-ranges, so it's still a great travel book if you have children of very different ages.
All this said, this is still a great way of getting to know a big selection of children's classics. In my case, I don't live in an English-speaking country, so I have to deliver children books for my kid via air-mail and it would be impossible to get these many books in their individual editions, so I'm very grateful to the Editor for making this excellent collection of children stories readily available for everyone.
Excellent Collection by .. DaddyO IN SFO (San Francisco, CA) This book is an uncanny collection of most of our favorite children's stories that we have collected over the years plus many more we had not yet discovered. It's a great collection. The only downside of the collection is that the stories are displayed with several of the original "pages" per page which is distracting to young readers. They see the pictures from many pages at once while the parent tries to read the through the words left to right.
Wonderful Book! by .. Tanya Willey () I received this book as a gift when my boys were 17 months old and 1 month old. The are now 2 and 3, and we still read from this book just about every day. The Table of Contents suggests age groups for each story, but I have found that my kids are pretty much up for any of them, even at a young age. This time I purchased it as a gift for someone else, and if Amazon continues to offer amazing prices on it ($27 instead of $40 at major bookstore) then I will buy it for everyone I know that has a child. It's one that your kids will never tire of (just keep it out of reach to keep in good condition, as they will want to flip through the picures on their own...).
STORIES by .. Donna Clair (Taos, New Mexico) What is more comforting to a child than being curled up in bed and having Mummy or Daddy reading a good story -- big story books are pages full of magic!

Product Description Illustrated in full color. This car-and- truck-filled alphabet extravaganza that starts with an ambulance and ends with a zippercar, is shaped like Lowly Worm's applemobile. Customer reviews H and I are missing by .. some_woman (Here & There) The size is not a problem from me. This book is meant to be held by small hands. My daughter has other books this size that she walks around with pretty much all day.
What bothers me is that two letters are missing. I thought I got a defective copy but I read another reviewer count 24 letters represented in this book. There are 26 letters in the English alphabet. H and I are missing in this book. No room for a Hippo car & Igloo car? No Humvee & Ice Truck?
Because of this egregious (and shameful!) mistake, I'm tempted to give it an even lower rating. But the fact is, my daughter likes it and responds to it. (She yells out "Meow!Gaaar!" when the cat is driving one of the vehicles) So, yeah, she'll get the silliness of animals driving silly vehicles, but she won't be learning the alphabet from this book, that's for sure.
Small but Cute by .. C. Grano (Las Vegas, NV USA) This book is very small. That makes it nice to carry around, but hard to see the little drawings on the pages. Our 15 month old daughter doesn't understand all the crazy cars (pickle car, toothpaste car, etc.), we have a good time reading it occasionally. If you're interested in a Richard Scary book, I would recommend a larger book with more going on on each page. My nephew has a huge one that he loves to stare at.
My son loves this book... by .. Melanie C. Hurt (Idaho) I bought this book as filler, to receive free shipping. It's a small, inexpensive book. The illustrations are very cute and the format is nice. It has the letter of the alphabet and then vehicles that start with that letter. It's been great alphabet and two-word phrase practice for my 22-month old. He enjoys reading this book with me and he now says "garbage truck" and "big truck." I'm very happy I decided on this book. It is surprisingly small, about four-inches square, but cute, nontheless.
Great book for the car! by .. Aaron'smommy (Pennsylvania) After reading many reviews on here, I bought this book wondering what I'd get. It seems that most reviews here are either very strongly liking this book or very strongly not liking it (it's a kid's book for gosh sakes!)
Anyway, my son loves this book! It's the perfect size to hand him in the car or leaf through and talk about at a restaurant while waiting for food. The book is silly and fun- so please lighten up if you're not sure what a "corn car" is or whatever. Richard Scarry wasn't afraid to use his imagination, and was a lot of fun as a result.
It's an inexpensive book that takes a few minutes to flip through. Golden, in my eyes!

THANK YOU AARON SHEPARD!!! by .. Iowa Eddie () All the other books like this are 1000 pages of self-indulgence by their authors. Aaron Shepard keeps it short and to the point.
Short and Sweet by .. Trisha Dehler (Portland, ME) I confess I have three of Mr. Shepard's books. Why? Because, they are all straight to the point. The advice is not padded with trite page fill, such as, "Paint you home office mauve so you'll feel relaxed while writing." You can pay for a thicker book, but you won't get more information. The Business of Writing for Children gives you the facts you need to set off on the pathway to success. What else do you need?
Worth reading by .. L. Burleson (Northern California) just wrote my first children's book did not know what to do with it after I was done. Great links and hints on how to get your book published through a publisher or to do self-publishing.
The Absolute Best "How-To Get Your Writing Career Started" Book on the Market by .. Alan M. Brown (Tallahassee, FL) "The Business of Writing for Children" is an exceptional guide for all writers. There are loads of books on the market that deal with writing, but Aaron Shepard's work is a diamond amongst lead pellets. He shares his real life experiences that have led him to become a world renowned author. Reading the book was like being able to sit down face to face with a children's lit superstar to teach me all about the business.
There are several features that make Shepard's book superior to others in the field.
First, the book is a step-by-step guide. Shepard presents a logical sequence of events to follow to accomplish your writing goals. Second, Shepard shares the lessons that he learned as a new author struggling to get his work published to the accomplished writer he is today. Third, he lays out how to format your work in the manner that editors look for. Fourth, he provides unique strategies to make your manuscripts stand out on editors' desks. Fifth, Shepard explains how to get your work to editors who do not take unsolicited work. Sixth, the book gives an array of ideas to market your work and yourself. These are only a few of the things that I found to be extremely useful in this book.
Additionally, the book is not filled with fluff. It is only about 100 pages long. Some of the other books on this subject are hundreds of pages long. I found that all of the larger books available are filled with a lot of useless information; whereas, Shepard only supplies useful and relevant information. I appreciated his approach because I felt that I needed a straight forward approach to help me on my writing journey.
