Warning: This book will give you more free time your boss may want. 5 by .. Dominic Carubba (Atlanta, GA)
You MUST read and implement the ideas in this book! Based on the principles of David Allen's GTD (Getting Things Done - as I perceive it), this book is a toolkit for using Outlook as a productivity tool.
I have implemented the ideas and concepts of this book more than any other book on productivity or time management.

I have integrated the concepts of this book in my leadership and management workshops and seminars and have always gotten great feedback from my participants on the ideas and techniques to increase productivity and reduce their stressful lives.

I recommend this book to all my students and I recommend it to you. If you don't get 10X'x the value for the price of the book, call me and I'll give you an hour of FREE coaching to clear where you are stuck using Sally's system. (I don't work for McGhee and never have, I just love the book that much - $300 Value to you).

Excellent, very helpful, highly recommend 5 by .. Mike Thomas ()
This book was very helpful. The book tells you much more than just how to use Microsoft Outlook. It also tells you how to completely organize your life at work and at home. Very practical advice. I highly recommend this book.

Purely a life changer, but it takes commitment and patience to make it really work 5 by .. Brent Carey (manhattan beach, CA United States)
Yes it is sales pitch for outlook, and yes Microsoft could improve the Category function in their Mobile software (I have a HP IPaq and reviewing single category SNA's or looking up contacts is all you really use it for.) But, in my opinion now that I have my life fully around this personal management system, it is a tool that will change your life. The high priorty top of the mind things still do not make it into my IMS system, but all the to-do's and call backs that used to fade into nothing can get prioritized and completed. But it will take you a awhile before you are disiplined enough to immediately enter tasks once a topic comes up. Keep trying, once you get it, this system is a life changer.

The book I've always needed 5 by .. Janet Barclay (Hamilton, ON)
For a long time, I believed Microsoft Outlook® to be a powerful yet highly underutilized time management tool, but was frustrated because the courses I took covered only the basics, and none of the books I read went sufficiently in depth to satisfy my desire to use this program to its full capacity. Then I discovered Sally McGhee's book, Take Back Your Life! which outlines steps for creating a system to help you to maximize productivity and take control of your personal and professional life.

Some of McGhee's recommendations are similar to those found in other time management books; for example:

* Implement personal boundaries to allow scheduled, uninterrupted work time.
* You can't create more time; you can only make the most of the time you have by setting priorities.
* Process and organize your e-mail (and paper mail) by following the four D's for decision making (Delete/Do/Delegate/Defer)

For me, the most valuable part of the book explains that to effectively use the Outlook Task list, it is helpful to create planning categories to keep track of objectives and supporting projects, and action categories to keep track of the individual tasks to be completed. Instead of using Outlook's default categories such as "Client" and "Personal," McGhee suggests placing all telephone calls in one category so you can quickly and easily make those calls when you have time between appointments. Similarly, having all errands in one category will make it easier to keep track of them and reduce the number of trips you have to make.

Ms. McGhee understands that technology facilitates increased productivity only when users know how to use its features to full advantage, and are willing to let go of ineffective habits. Willingness to make behaviour changes is a key component of her system, as some of the strategies she describes will be quite foreign to many, particularly those who struggle with structure and details.

One drawback is that to rely fully on Outlook for time management requires the use of a Pocket PC or similar device, and I have met many people who are not prepared to give up their paper planners. Nonetheless, although Take Back Your Life! is primarily about using Outlook, it offers many helpful time management tips that may be adopted even by non-Outlook users.

Take Back Your Life 4 by .. Lynne Atkinson (Phoenix, AZ USA)
Take Back Your Life is a great book providing real tools to help you become organized in Microsoft Outlook. Now, my inbox is always clear because I do something with incoming emails right away. If I cannot answer or delete an email in two minutes I move it into Task folder. All my tasks are in one folder so I do not have to search through my inbox for an email requesting an action from me. The book gives directions to manage your email on many levels. Great!

Excellent Buy 5 by .. Patrick M. Derby ()
The Microsoft Windows Security Inside Out for Windows XP book is a great buy. This book is an excellent reference.

Lots, lots (lots!) of help here 5 by .. Bill Butler (Altadena, CA USA)
Thios damn book weighs about 20 pounds, but has more information per ounce than dozens of others. No padding, no wasted words, just pages and pages of help.

I've completely changed my backup procedures as a result of reading one chapter. And I'm more confident of my internet security and data integrety.

Excellent book!

Microsoft Security - well done. 5 by .. Michael J Woznicki (Holland, MA USA)
Microsoft has been changing OSes as often as the phone company changes area codes and with that you need to keep up on the latest developments. One of the biggest problems arising from computers today is security and this book certainly helps me to understand what it takes to lock down 2000 and XP.

Having worked with 2000 for over a year and XP for over 6 months, I am finding new things out everyday. I was pleasantly surprised to see that these authors have gone to great lengths to make the understanding of the security systems in 2000 and XP may not be a complex as they seem.

The book is very well documented, in fact the entire book is in PDF format making it a portable reference. What you'll find in the 800 pages is what to do from securing the internet to restricting access to setting user rights and permissions.

The authors have even gone as far as putting in numerous step by step exercises fro you to work with. Another thing that makes this book standout is the fact that is can be used for both the 70-214 and the Security+ exams.

Finally the section on wireless security is one that I am re-reading, while the concepts are understandable, I have to go over the section to fully understand it. The book also has a cd included and as stated before the e-book is include as well as a number of various add-ins and utilities.

I think the overall value comes from the fact that the book covers a wide range of security related information, 2 operating systems, and 2 versions of the XP operating system and is detailed and well documented.

Building Microsoft Access Applications 5 by .. Charles J. Schulz (San Jose, CA USA)
The book is well written with real world application samples and practical tips for how to design a database that works instead of trying to mimic a template sample that could be missing key elements needed to run a functioning program.

Not good for the newbie but good for the seasoned!! 4 by .. A. Quintero (PA United States)
This book is written with the intermediate to advanced programmer in mind. There is much to learn from this book on options and techniques to use when building business applications in Access. There is explanations of every sample application and it's function. I would give it five stars if it were not for the title. The title maybe a bit misleading since it talks about building applications since it kind of sways you into thinking that it is a book on the step by step process of "Building Microsoft Access Applications." If you are seasoned in Access programming it is a gem to have in your bookshelf.

Not worth the price 1 by .. J. Shin (Hawaii)
Very hard to follow, poorly organized and written. Unless you're well versed in Access already, skip this book. Definitely NOT for beginners.

Good book but not all the answers 4 by .. Eliott Mendelson (Orlando,)
This book is a good start toward understanding how to build Access applications. Some of the details are missing. An example would include the proper syntax for referencing fields in a form.

Not for the newbie! 4 by .. Mark A. Trawick (Bowling Green, KY)
Definitely not for the newbie. This is for the seasoned access programmers. I you are new to programming (at least in access) and are looking for a book on how to program with access, this is not for you. This is a great book for those seasoned programmers who are looking to make their applications better.

Microsoft Expression Plain and Simple 5 by .. E. Lamp (Arnold, Maryland USA)
I am a real neophyte at website design and a long way from doing work like I see so many others can do. But this book is clearly a real gem for those of us over 50, but who need to know this information. I'm still reading and taking notes on it. But I have a hunch it is a great one. I'ms still working on it.

It is Plain and Simple 3 by .. Timothy Beech (Ellisville, MS USA)
This product is as-advertised; plain and simple. It is designed for those who do not have a lot of experience with HTML and need a very basic guide. Good organization and easy to follow.

content is covered by the title 4 by .. West Fries (Mechnice, Poland)
The title does exactly cover the content. The book is plain & simple. A perfect book to start learning Expression web. See it as a good appetizer. You will not learn things into detail, but you will learn the programs possibilties in an easy and simple way. Perfect start. To go into details, you will need another book. I would definitely buy it again.

It is a good place to start 4 by .. M. Anderson (West Linn, Oregon)
I wanted a book that would give me the ability to create a web site quickly and this book did that. It does not provide a wealth of information about Expression Web but it is a good place to start in using the program. I have since purchased other books that provide more information about the use of Expression Web in the creation of more complex web sites.

Great Book! 5 by .. Valerie Fisher (Hannibal, OH)
I have purchased several books for Microsoft Expression Web. This one is the best. It is simple to read & easy to find what I am looking for when I want to go back for a review.

Not what I expected. 1 by .. Dolores A. Failla (Sebastian, Florida)
I received the book in two weeks and there was a hole in page 713. Some areas of the book presume that the reader understands the MS jargon the writer is referring to. Some practice examples are not clear and are frustrating. It would be more helpful if there was a visual demonstration on the disc.

Wonderful 5 by .. C. Duit (Iowa)
This is a wonderful beginner's book. It provides interactive training that the staff found enjoyable to review. They liked the ablility to click on the "Show Me" button and the software would show them how to perform a function. They also liked be able to go at their own pace and the ability to review a topic as many times as needed. You can't go wrong for the money.

Damaged CD's 1 by .. T. Fletcher (Klawock, AK USA)
I have no clue about the product because the 2 CD's that come with the book were scratched and one was chipped. The CD's are needed as part of the learning process. Amazon's return policy is unopened products only others have to be returned to the manufacture. I don't have a clue on where to start looking for answers

Love it!! 5 by .. Mindy R Duffee (Rowlett, Tx. United States)
I love this book! I've had my Windows XP machine for over a year and have only done a little with digital pictures and scanning. I installed my digital movie camera but never really got the hang of it. This book describes in detail how to do everything I want to do, from making movies to getting a .NET passport for my kids. It's full color too, and definitely worth the price tag. The CD contains in depth tutorials on how to do everything too, including playing and organizing my music files. I especially like the part about turning my PC into a music studio, a Karaoke machine, and a Personal DJ since I'm a music enthusiast. There are sections everywhere that offer ideas for even more projects. Great Book, I love it!!

WOW 5 by .. Jimmy W. Ford (Lebanon, TN)
If you want to hack the XP registry this is the book. If you need to know where items in the registry are located, this is the book. Reccomend.

Text-Book. 4 by .. Dewayne Helms (WESLEY CHAPEL, FL United States)
This book is one of several books I have looked at concerning the Windows Registry. It reads just like a textbook. It covers various topics that may increase one's understanding of the registry and come with detail programs one can use to change it. It is a decent book- I would even say it's EXCELLENT. However, It is a little to much for me. For a more leisurely read, I would recommend Windows XP Annoyances for Geeks by David A. Karp. It gives a brief history and explanation of the registry and comes with programs and tricks also.

Lots of fluff, not much meat 2 by .. Timothy J. Crawford (Fremont, CA)
The first half of the this book (200 pages) explains what the registry is and how to change the settings. The next 150 pages give some detail, but misses some very important registery keys. No where in this book does it explain how to turn off autoplay on the CD-ROM.

Microsoft Windows XP Registry Guide 5 by .. computer nerd (U.S.A.)
The Registry guide is chock full of tweaks for fine tuning the registry. If you are advanced in computers this should be the book for you. I advise you though to backup anything you do with your registry because you can really mess things up. The book points this out and gives you a better understanding of the inner workings of your computer's registry. I do think some of the concepts could have been more elaborated on but it is clearer than some books I've encountered.

Not For Beginners, Mandatory for Systems Administers 5 by .. John Matlock (Winnemucca, NV)
Not for the beginner or the faint of heart. The registry is that thing down at the bottom of the operating system that controls what the Windows XP operating system does.

Thankfully the first part of the book starts out with pretty basic information like what's in the registry. Then it discusses its structure, and begins to define some of those cryptic things like HKEY_USERS, and a bunch of other HKEY's. At the very least, the information in Part I is of interest and probably something that any fairly advanced user should know.

Part II gets into Registry in Management, this has chapters on Using Registry-Based Policy, Windows Security, Troubleshooting and so on.

Part III, Registry in Deployment is on using the registry to set up individual systems in a broad based deployment.

All in all, this is the most complete, best thought out book on the registry available. This is the second edition of the book on Windows XP, but it follows on previous books where Mr. Honeycutt described the registry on previous operating systems such as Windows 2000. His development of both understanding and the ability to describe that understanding is based on writing several previous books.

WHY and BECAUSE this is a useless book, 1 by .. nick (Italy)
In absolute agreement to Steamboat Willy.

This is the only book on InfoPath that has been translated into Italian. A non-programmer colleague has read this book from cover to cover to try and work with infopath. However, even though he has followed each example, the lack of any explaination as to WHY he was performing the various tasks given within the book, or what aim the author has in mind both of the task or explaining the task means that today he is none the wiser. The step-by-step approach to each task without explaining the outcomes, what to do when it doesn't go as you suggest, or giving the user any idea where the writer is going with an example makes problem-solving nigh on impossible, and the work seem useless.

Further, the examples are all based on ready-made forms, that quickly become too complex to deconstruct, even after reading this book, he is unable to project a form from the beginning, or to realise how to overcome diffculties in a project.

This book is not an instructive manual for a beginner on how to use Infopath, possibly useful as a "how do I..." reference for specific activities however, you will find the same things on Google that you have written in this book.

Personally, I would return the book asking for my money back.

Only How-To's and nothing about why something is done 3 by .. Steamboat Willy (Rockford, IL USA)
This book was ok in some respects but the author went into the "NorthWind Trader" pieces too much and didnt explain how to get from point A-G only from point D-G which really frustrated me. Also the author rarely explains WHY you would ever use a feature or anything he talks about and just explains how to. Which is useless for someone like me who needs to have a WHY WHEN and HOW to understand the processes that are explained.

First book that describes the VERY important SP1 features! 5 by .. Richard Schulthess (Atlanta, GA USA)
I was delighted when I saw that this book was written by my favorite technical author, Roger Jennings. Maybe it's just me but I'm often disappointed by other tech authors. I'm sure they know their stuff but I find them devoting most of their writing to describing issues and details that, for some reason, don't relate to my problems in trying to leverage the subject's technology. Not so with Roger! He ably describes the details I need to quickly become successful. One key word describes his superiority - Relevance!

Save your money and DO NOT buy any InfoPath book that is not based upon the SP1 version! It's MUCH more than just a service pack, it's really like "InfoPath 2004" instead, adding a whole host of vitally important features including full Tablet PC support, integration with Visual Studio for developers, Email forms deployment, Security enhancements, and more. MAJOR stuff!

While this is the first book that covers the SP1 version, I bet it will remain among the very best even after all the other authors catch up!

An all-purpose small business encyclopedia 5 by .. Sean Malowney (Seattle, WA)
Microsoft has really got a winner on its hands with this book. Its perfect for anyone who's starting a small business and needs a high-level overview of what to do next. Sure, the book steers you into Microsoft-centric software solutions. But, once you understand the concepts, you can complete the tasks with the software of your choice.

Good Start 5 by .. D. B. Navarrete ()
I found this book to be great for the "first time" inexperienced Small Business starter. It is full of practical tips and examples. The web links it provides to informative websites saves alot of time on research.

I greatly recommend this book.

Good 4 by .. A Book Lover ()
This is a good book. It's one of the most current books about business planning out there and I recommend it for every wanna-be business owner.

However, the only reason that I couldn't give it a 5-Star rating is because of the price. It's not worth the listed $49.99....it's not even a hard-back edition!

So my suggestion for you to follow my lead and order the book used through amazon.com and save yourself at least $30. Then you will be happy.
