Customer reviews No less useful today than it was decades ago by .. Julia Lichty (East/Central, PA) I first came across a worn copy of this book in a public library as a teenager. As someone who grew up in a small town, I was very interested in the chapters dealing with raising your own livestock (everything from chickens to dairy cows). Now that I've grown and moved into a more urban environment, the book's many practical recipes and household tips have come in handy. I highly recommend trying this book if you're interested in wholesome, simple foods without the additives and chemical "enhancers" found in most prepared foods you'll find in the grocery store. This book is also a great addition to the library of anyone interested in self-sufficiency or owning a personal farm, as it deals with many issues that you might not otherwise see coming.
I hate to see this book disappear by .. Quinbould (Snowmass Village, CO United States) Here it is 2006 and I took a look at this book in my kitchen library. It's getting a bit rabbit eared and torn, but it's so full of excellent information that one can use both for practical rasons as well as for saving money that it will be relevant for years to come. If you can get a copy, I highly recomend it.
A Great Book for Those who Long for Self-Sufficiency by .. Virginia W. Fralick (USA) I really enjoyed this book for the wealth of information it gives concerning how to make just about everything you can think of, from your own pancake mix to your own butter and cheese! It's been a great resource for me as I strive to do more preparation in regards to self-sufficiency, and break my dependence on the grocery store mentality!

Product Description From one of today’s most original writers comes the mesmerizing tale of an exceptional young woman caught up in an otherworldly realm where some will stop at nothing to get what they want. Paige Winterbourne was always either too young or too rebellious to succeed her mother as leader of one of the world’s most powerful elite organizations—the American Coven of Witches. Now that she is twenty-three and her mother is dead, the Elders can no longer deny her. But even Paige’s wildest antics can’t hold a candle to those of her new charge—an orphan who is all too willing to use her budding powers for evil...and evil is all too willing to claim her. For this girl is being pursued by a dark faction of the supernatural underworld. They are a vicious group who will do anything to woo the young, malleable, and extremely powerful neophyte, including commit murder—and frame Paige for the crime. It’s an initiation into adulthood, womanhood, and the brutal side of magic that Paige will have to do everything within her power to make sure they both survive. Customer reviews I did not like Paige Winterbourne by .. platypuslord (Mountain View, CA USA) Paige Winterbourne stumbles her way through this book, assailed on all sides by people who hate her for no good reason. (Most of them, the reader suspects, hate her because she's rude to them. Paige claims repeatedly that she wants to help people, but she Does Have Her Pride, and she Does Not Hesitate To Tell People Off.) The sole exception is Lucas, who remains polite and helpful despite Paige's insults and abuse, until about two-thirds of the way through the book, when she relents and they have sex.
Is this how a heroine is supposed to see the world?
Web designer by day, witch by night by .. Sylver (Des Moines, Iowa / Frydek-Mistek, Czech Republic) In the third book of The Women of the Otherworld series, "Dime Store Magic," Paige Winterbourne, witch/website designer is faced with a child custody battle that leads to mayhem and murder. Helped along the way by sorcerer, Lucas Cortez, Paige must protect her young charge while trying to discover the secret of the lost witch magic.
I really enjoyed this book. Paige is a likeable character, and seeing a young woman trying to suddenly deal with the problems of parenting a teenage girl in addition to all the supernatural baddies to be dealt with made this book an entertaining read. Not to mention the dash of romance Armstrong added, which is always nice. I've read it maybe four times already and still love it.
Another Great Otherworld Book by .. Jessica (Reno, NV) This book focuses on Page, a witch. You are introduced to her in Stolen. After her mother dies, she is supposed to step up and take over the coven. But the other, older witches don't want her to. They don't think she has what it takes to be a leader.
You also meet Savannah, rescued from the same facility that kidnapped Ruth, Pages mother. She is a witch just coming into her power. The other witches are afraid of her because her mother left the coven and was known to practice black magic. Then her father, Kristof Nash, is trying to get custody of her. The thing is he is son to the leader of a mob like organization of wizards. Page is trying to keep with the coven and keep Savannah.
It is a really good book. I like how the different characters star in the different books. That way, you could read them by themselves or as a series. The series makes more sense though.
Not what I expected by .. ReG Masse (PAP, Haiti) I picked up this book based on the 4-5 star reviews it got. I have to say that it was really difficult for me to get into the story line. I like Paige (and the other characters) well enough but I had a hard time "getting into the book". I felt sometimes that the story dragged and had to make a real effort to finish it, because I don't like not finishing a book.
For me, it was just OK.
it takes awhile to warm up to paige by .. Savannah Brooks (midwestern small town hell) paige is a pretty cool character, but it can take awhile before you warm up to her, unlike the smart alecky narrative style eve levine used that i enjoyed so much in "haunted" (i am reading this series out of order, this is the second book i read.) paige has a slightly flat way of describing things. she is less sure of herself and a bit less experienced a spellcaster. as things start to happen to her and you start to watch her struggle, especially her struggles with the older women of the witch coven, paige gets easier to relate to and to like. i really like that ms. armstrong can write so many different types of real women convincingly... it shows a lot of versatility, whereas some of the author's i've read in this genre tend to write about the same woman over and over in different situations.
savannah was a character i took to immediately, though, and i can't wait until she gets old enough to have her very own book. she's a very real and well written teenaged girl: one part clever, sophisticated manipulator, one part little girl eager to grow up and be included and fit in. and her issues with her mother are handled with sensitivity, but not overblown.
and... i have nothing to say about lucas at this time except that men who can use the word "fortuitous" in everyday conversation are yummy.
overall i liked this book once i got into it, but it took awhile, and i think the second book about paige (industrial magic) had her character more felt out and was more fun to read.

Robert Brown (Spokane, WA) This book is great for those who are new to ipods. I goes far beyond the directions. I highly recommend the book for any ipod owner. I gave one to a friend who has really enjoyed it.
A waste of time by .. Bo Johansson (Sweden) Pointless. There's absolutely nothing in the book that can't easily be found in the on-line manual. Luckely, I borrowed it at the library. Don't waste your money on this. Kelby has written a couple of good books (and some really bad ones too), this is not one of them.
Recommended by .. LoraCorla (Buffalo, NY) Easy-to-follow instructions and photos make learning quick and easy especially if you're new to itunes. Highly recommended for those who wish to maximize use of their ipod. Great supplement to the on-line manual.
Concise and easy to understand by .. Mitchell Ball (Hallandale, Florida) This was better than anticipated. Easy and concise and a must read by all Ipod users.
Helpful?? Not at all... by .. Ingrid (Rapid City, SD USA) Honestly, I did not find this book to be one bit helpful. I personally thought it all to be redundant information. It may be of use if you are COMPLETELY technologically unaware... It's really just a waste of money. Go and buy yourself some lemonade instead. =]

Product Description A nostalgic trip down the aisles of America's five-and-ten-cent stores, this book illustrates and describes the extensive variety of glassware that was available to everyday consumers in the Depression years. Once a staple item along "Main Street, U.S.A.," dime stores such as Ben Franklin, S.S. Kresge, McCrory, G.C. Murphy, J.J. Newberry, and F.W. Woolworth sold attractive, practical glassware at affordable prices, ranging from tableware, tumblers, and jugs to crystal stemware and artistic cut glass. Today this merchandise has become highly collectible and is escalating in both price and demand. Using over 240 images, many drawn from original catalogues and advertisements, author C. L. Miller provides an informative and enjoyable guide for both new and experienced collectors.
