Teacher Essential 5 by .. A. Sullivan (Graham, WA USA)
This text is invaluable. As a Title 1 teacher, I use it frequently to target those specific deficit skills. No longer must I depend upon memory or a workbook to provide key words for targeted practice. As a classroom teacher, this text provides fabulous lists of words based upon skill-specific information. It aides the targeting of deficit areas, and is intuitive in its use. This text is a must have. I would spend much more time "inventing"(read here- trying to remember words that have the ____ sound) instead of simply listing words for target areas for intensive intervention. It is also a terrific gift for beginning teachers! Worth every penny.

Very Helpful and Useful 5 by .. Matthew T. Wentworth (Milford, PA United States)
The Reading TEacher's Book of Lists is good for any Elementary Teacher to have and use on a daily basis. There are lists of just about anything you need to teach reading. I found myself using this constantly in the classroom, right in front of the kids. Our spelling list was based on the use of silent letters. The kids wanted to know what other words there were, so we looked it up and came up with a large list to talk about.

I found that the students were having a hard time with certain word spellings during writing and looked up in the book the spelling demons. Together we made a list on chart paper to post in the room. Their spelling improved immeadiately because they just looked up at the wall and saw the words.

The book is truly made for teachers! It is well laid out and easy to locate certain lists for your given need.

great reference book 5 by .. B. Wilke (Berkley, MI)
This is the best reference book! Every year I buy one for my student teacher because I think it is so great. I use it to create challenge spelling lists using the same spelling pattern we are studying that week for my high achievers plus there are lots of great ideas in here.

Great Resource for Teachers 5 by .. Jan R. Culbertson (Ohio)
This is the second copy of the Book of Lists that I have purchased. My old one was so worn and falling apart after years of use that I wanted a new updated copy. I love this resource and use it almost daily in the classroom. I highly recommend it.

Wonderful addition to any home/school library 5 by .. Locasenora ()
We use this book with our students in school regularly. I bought a copy for my home. All four of my children (ages 10 - 17) refer to it time and again. It is a must for a home library. I keep it right next to the dictionary and thesaurus.

Good but not as great as older versions 4 by .. Jasmine Dorsey ()
It was a good read, fun and easy, however alot of the lists from earlier versions were missing. And the newer ones seemed to be select persons favorites. Buy the older version for better lists

The New Book of Lists 5 by .. ()
A welcome addition to my collection of "Lists" books. A plethora of little known information - that may, someday, come up in a conversation and make me look smart. Ha-Ha!

The New Book of Lists 5 by .. Marlo (Alaska)
I have been waiting for this, I had both the old ones from the late 70's and 80's, and loved them, they went with me everywhere, and you can never tire of reading them. My book of "useless facts" is what my husband calls it, I can crack him up, amaze him, and leave him thinking with some of those lists. A book any true reader knows about is the book of lists.

Book of Lists 3 by .. J. Tschirn (Near Fredericksburg Virginia)
I got this book as a gift for my sister-in-law. She is very quirky and outgoing, but it is hard to figure out what gifts she might like. We haven't given it to her yet as her birthday is in a month, but we flipped through and it seems like a great gift. It is a little more in depth than I thought it would be too - instead of lists like the top ten things to do in an elevator, and jokes like that, it includes actual facts and the reasons they are in the list - such as lucille ball's top 10 favorite tv shows. It spans everything from politics to pop culture and is almost three inches thick! wow!

A Listomaniacs Dream 5 by .. ROBERT A. SANTA MARIA (somewhere in the wilds of New Jersey)
Wallechinsky, Wallace and Wallace are THE listophiles supreme!

For more years than I care to remember the Book of Lists and it's sequels have been giving us information that's presented with panache' and just the right amount of humor.

Want to know about stupid criminals - It's in there.
Want to know odd facts about historical figures - It's in there!
Want a light, fun read to satisfy your need for trivia - Oh, it's in there!

This particular volume is a mix of many of the lists in the original Book of Lists, plus a few updates.

I cannot say more about this book other than it helped me to seek other sources and aided me in so many ways when I was in college.

I mean, where else can you find the Dog Hero of the Year and 16 Cases of People Killed by God?

The Wallaces/Wallechinsky's also got a number of famous people to write their spin on the "listomania" as well.

This was an eclectic group covering such things as Lucille Ball's favorite sitcomes to Raold Dahl's best books to take to a distant planet.

Do yourself a favor and pick this one up.

Of course, it would be great if they would re-release the original Book of Lists volumes in some kind of tribute package, but you take what you can get.

Highly recommended.

This is a wonderful resource. To have this kind of information all in one place is a phenomenal aid to any art teacher! It is full of information and ideas! The book is well organized and very easy to read. I highly recommend it to any one interested in art.

Must Have Resource 5 by .. J. Stephens (Texas)
Wow!! I've found lists in this book I didn't even know I needed. There are lists covering everything from "100 Famous Paintings" to "Things to Do with markers". I teach art to young children and this book is a wonderful resource for me.

excellent 5 by .. L. Ader ()
New art appreciation teacher. Exactly what I needed to begin planning units for middle school

Out of date... 2 by .. Art Teacher 123 (usa)
This book is so out of date. This book is just what it says, a book of lists. There is nothing in this book that I couldn't find in about 30 seconds online. If you don't have a computer in your room then it would be a good resources, but if you use the internet then it is a complete waste of money.

Great...but out of date! 3 by .. E. Rogers ()
I have been teaching art for 10 years and refer to this book often when I need to find definitions, artists names and work, quotes, or quick ideas. But, now that the internet has become such a reliable source, it needs to be updated with websites that are helpful to the art teacher!!! I find myself looking on the internet for hours searching through all of the information. Wouldn't it be great to add a page or two to this book of lists!

awesome 5 by .. J. Miles (fullerton, ca)
This book has so many good ideas and ways of teaching writing to students. I have found it very useful to use with my 3rd graders and I can see it being used in most all grades. The lists are fantastic and offer the children the vocabulary to make their writing more enjoyable to read.

Good Resource Book to Supplement other Texts 5 by .. R. Clarken (U.P. Michigan)
I taught English for nearly eight years before I found this book. Now, I use it regularly for a community ESL class I teach in my spare time. The lists of words and writing prompts are useful for students to remember the words they already know and learn a few other words that they haven't been exposed to yet. My students like the question writing prompts because they are very useful for starting great discussions.
This book can be used in many more ways too. I am going to use some to the lists in this book in my college-level English class for journal/free writing prompts. Often my students complaint that they don't know where to start on writing assignments, so the list of words and questions can prime the pump and get the sentences flowing onto the page.
This book and the others in the Book of Lists series are excellent resources for any teacher's personal library. They are great go-to staples for ideas on regularly covered topics.

An effective tool for teaching writing, BUT... 5 by .. z hayes (plano, texas)
The Writing Teacher's Book of Lists is a useful resource for teachers of writing, but it is more technical and perhaps better suited to beginning teachers who might appreciate the 90 useful lists for developing instructional materials, activities, teaching suggestions etc. I would recommend using this book together with another effective book on teaching writing titled, "Writing Process Activities Kit: 75 Ready-to-use Lessons & Worksheets for Grades 7-12".

great teaching tool 5 by .. M. McFarland ()
I found the information in this book to be very helpful in my classroom. There are great lessons on all different types of writing. They are very easy to follow and adaptable for different grade levels. Very useable.

The Southern Gardener's Book of Lists 5 by .. Bob (Georgia Zone 7)
I refer to this book often. Adds to the success I seek in my gardening. I work in a retail nursery and have found it very helpful with the multitude of diverse question I get from our customers.

Incredibly Valuable 5 by .. Lanier Cordell (Baton Rouge)
I am really glad that I bought this book. It is loaded with useful information that is proving very helpful. I have 32 acres of cleared farm land without so much as a tree of blade of grass that desperately needs landscaping. This book really makes the task less daunting.

Good book 5 by .. Mary C. Singleton (Baton Rouge, LA)
This book has black and white pictures which was a disappointment for me. It does have good lists of plants for every use in the garden. It has recommendations for plants to use in acidic soil, shade, full sun, rocky soil....Overall, I'm happy with it.

must have! 5 by .. Gregory David Sysyn (Atlanta, Georgia USA)
this book is a must have for Southerners new to gardening, or gardeners new to the south. After moving to Georgia four years ago I found this book, and when planning for my garden it is the book that I turn to every time

from the author 5 by .. Lois Trigg Chaplin (Birmingham, AL)

This is the author. Thanks so much for your candid comments. I read them for ideas on how to improve the next edition if I can ever get to it. I noticed a comment from Tampa and wanted to make you aware that there is also a Florida Gardener's Book of Lists. I grew up in Florida and teamed up with Monica Brandies, a transplant from the North to write this title. She offers a great perspective. Anyone in Central and South Florida might want to try that title instead.

Great way to review and summarize material. 5 by .. Delirium (St. Louis, MO USA)
I'm a first-year math teacher in high school and I use this book very often. It's a great way to summarize the material for a review in general and before a test. It's an essential tool for a quick reference because it puts all the rules on a subject together on one page. For example, a page "Common Forms of Linear Equations" lists 6 equations: Standard form, Slope-Intercept form, Point-Slope form along with equations for Vertical Line, Horizontal Line and Slope-Intercept form passing through origin. When we did the unit on linear functions, this was a great way to put all that we have learned together and have a flash card for easy reference.

I would definitely recommend this book.

A list about the Book of Lists - Horror 5 by .. mrliteral ()
The world is a complicated place, and one of the ways we try to make order out of chaos is by dividing things into lists. Even with Amazon, users are exposed to myriad lists: not merely the best seller lists, but also heaps of lists by customers who create rosters of books, movies or other items organized in a particular fashion. Certainly the list has been around for a long time, but it really became a phenomenon with The Book of Lists and its successors. One of the newest of these books is The Book of Lists: Horror, and following its format, I present my review in list form.

SECTIONS OF THE BOOK:

1. Movies ("Fear on the Silver Screen): This section, taking up just over half of the book, is filled with lists created by various people associated with the horror genre. Among other lists, there are the horror films that most influenced Ray Bradbury's youth; the five common tactical errors made in horror films (e.g., confirm your kills); ten movie fates worse than death; and the top ten horror movie surgical blunders. Some of the lists are weak, others are interesting, and no doubt you will find your own movies that fit in a list (for example, I would include one character's fate in the movie Wolf Creek to fit into the "worse than death" list). The real strength of this section is that it can give you a number of ideas for new movies to see.

2. Books ("The Literature of Dread"): This section takes up another quarter of the book and many of the same comments apply as with the movies. Of course, for every horror movie (using the very loose definition of horror in this book), there are probably a dozen books, so there is even a greater chance that the lists will neglect some novel or story. When we get a list of five horror novels set in Venice, you can tell that this section may be stretched a little further than needed.

3. Music ("A Little Nightmare Music"): This section is brief and appropriately so. And there's no reference to Warren Zevon's Werewolves of London.

4. Miscellaneous ("A Miscellany of Terrors"): This grab bag is the largest of the minor (last three) sections. Comic books, TV horror hosts (such as Vampira) and even drinks are here (Zombie or Bloody Mary, anyone?).

5. Fan Submitted Lists ("Shrieks from the Gallery"): This section has lists from non-pros, but even the ones from kids sometimes surpass the ones elsewhere in the book. The nicest list here includes a bunch of old pulp covers; they're fun to look at, even if the pictures are a bit small.

Overall, this is the literary equivalent of a bag of potato chips. Even if not every list is spectacular, you can't stop with just one. There may not be a lot of nutritional value, but even a guilty pleasure is a pleasure nonetheless.

wonderful 5 by .. John Palisano (Los Angeles, California United States)
You dont need to love horror to love this book. If you even have a passing fancy for the dark side you are in for a treat.

The number of horror stars is amazing. There are writers, mucians, directors and actors. I highly reccomend this book to any fan of horror or just movie information.

If you love the horror genre and trivia then this book is for you 5 by .. A. Gragg (ohio)
I am a huge fan of the horror genre and lists so i knew i would love this book. It is interesting on many levels. Many familiar faces of the genre created lists in the book that are both entertaining and informative. I guarantee you will be making lists of your own after reading this book with movies, books, or music that sound appealing to you. It is also great to hear what people involved with the genre think. All the lists are given generous description so even the most diehard genre fans will learn something new. I highly recommend this book, whether you are a fan of the horror genre itself, a lover of lists, or you simply enjoy entertainment related trivia. Just trust me this book is for YOU!

If your kids like trivia or want to see information in list format, this book is great! It's exactly what it says it is, a book of lists, so don't expect more. My kids take this in the car and play games with the information.

Reference encyclopedia, puzzle book, interesting read, homework helper -- the SCHOLASTIC BOOK OF LISTS 2 is all of this and more! This is one title that you'll want either in your classroom or home library, or just to have on hand for some entertaining reading.

Broken down into ten main categories -- History, Social Studies, World and Weather, Science, Words, Pop Culture, Animals, Food, Grab Bag, and Sports -- this book has a list for just about everything. Whether it's something you might really need to know (like the Presidential runner-ups all the way back to 1788) or something you're just interested in (like the 17 perfect games pitched in baseball through 2005), there's enough information here to keep you busy for weeks!

There are also fun games and puzzles scattered throughout the book, which add an interesting hands-on experience to the lists. This is definitely a book you want to have around, and my son even used a number of the lists as a basis for his required journal entries for school. This book is a keeper!

Overpriced 2 by .. Wisdom and Truth (Pittsburgh, PA)
This books consists of a bunch of lists of Washington DC sports figures. It is interesting enough I guess, but it is only about an hour's worth of reading. This book shouldn't be more than 5 dollars. Pick it up used for a buck or two but don't spend to buy it new. Ain't worth it.
