Product Description Written by veteran financial professional and experienced author Richard Ferri, The ETF Book gives you a broad and deep understanding of this important investment vehicle and provides you with the tools needed to successfully integrate exchange-traded funds into any portfolio. Each chapter of The ETF Book offers concise coverage of various issues and is filled with in-depth insights on different types of ETFs as well as practical advice on how to select and manage them. Customer reviews Kindle edition review by .. Catherine Michael (Sacramento CA USA) This is a great book for content: very thorough introduction to ETFs; compares ETFs to mutual funds and describes other exchange traded securities that may be confused with real ETFs. Recommended reading before getting into ETF investing. (Recommended supplementary work: the ETF section of morningstar.com. Note: I have no connection to Morningstar, just a long time user).
About the Kindle edition: the Kindle formating is pretty bad. The line spacing compared to the type size is very close and tight, which makes for tiresome reading. Some books' formats simply don't seem to convert well for Kindle, and this is one of them.
On the plus side for Kindle: all the tables and charts are readable; although you may need to look closely, the text is readable, which is more than I can say for some Kindle editions of books with charts & graphs.
A WONDERFUL TRIP THROUGH THE ETF FIELD; THANKS RICK. by .. John A. Tirone (Macomb, Michigan) A wonderful trip through ETFs. Book is well worth the money and I am sure worth more. Yet, while I'd suggest this book for any mutual fund investor, still, the more I read in this area the more I am convinced that I'll just "keep it simple" and stick with Dodge and Cox and Vanguard Funds ("admiral" or otherwise!) and probably Loomis-Sayles. Still, this book should be read by most mutual fund investors.
Ferri's work is a credit to the field, surely a credit to him and I'll add a credit to Walsh College (where I believe Rick is on or was on the adjunct faculty).

A must read if you want to learn ETF investing by .. Algo Trader (Wayne, PA) As a professional in the ETF business I highly recommend Rick's book on ETFs. His clear, concise and easy to read style cuts to the chase of ETFs. I particularly enjoyed the section on creations and redemptions of ETF--one must understand this section as it it's the cornerstone of ETF investing. If you buy this book for this section alone it is well worth your investment. A must read for financial advisors thinking of using ETFs in their client's portfolios. And a must read for the client as well.
Reads like a college text by .. AKN (Roswell, GA) Provides a wealth of text book knowledge. It feels like you are studying for a college level course, replete with history and lists.
I find it somewhat lacking in helping me with picking etf's and making trades.
Point of contention by .. promethian Daniel (Naples, FL United States) The book is a good reference and overview of the different asset classes available in Exchange Traded Funds. However, his opinion on commodities is difficult to justify. He calls it "As Asset Class with No Real Return." Really? Where has he been these past 5 years. Just because an asset class underperforms other asset classes in the past is not a guarentee of future (poor) returns. One needs to consider hedging against currency mismanagement and inflation. Also, the future may be different than the past now that India and China are demanding more commodities in an unprecendented way. I think the book is a good one to take out of the library, but probably would not purchase the book. It certainly provides much information on the menu of investments available via ETFs.

Product Description Not all Families use protocols. Those that do use protocols in their relationship range from using only a few protocols to having an extensive Protocol Manual written out for the slave’s use. Those who use common Leather protocols may use them slightly differently, based on the part of the country in which they live. One often hears about “East Coast versus West Coast” styles of protocols. Also, many Masters or Doms make up their own protocols as befits that particular relationship. All this is good. This issue contains articles from Masters and slaves that represent divergent views. More importantly, many of these articles discuss the philosophical basis for the way protocols have developed within their Families. The reason that protocols vary so much between Families is that protocols serve a few important aspects of a power exchange or authority exchange relationship: • Protocols give the Master/Dom an opportunity to shape the daily structure of life with a slave/submissive. Protocols can be used to enforce deference and respect; they can be used to make the relationship look very different from a vanilla relationship; they can be used to clarify communication between partners. • Written protocols really represent the specifics of the ways that Master/Dom wants slave/submissive to behave. It’s rather a “manual for living with Master.” This can be very helpful for the slave or submissive, as it clearly sets forth what Master expects from slave. Thus, slave has specific ways he/she knows to behave to please Master. And, pleasing Master is what the relationship is all about, yes? This is an interesting issue of the Power Exchange Books’ Resource Series. I hope you enjoy it. Related Search : protocols variety , resource series , exchange books |

All rights reserved. Customer reviews Garbage by .. SBJ400 (Mt. Laurel, NJ USA) If you want to learn about the start and foundation of Forex, use Google! It is free and more up to date than this piece of junk. Luckily I got it from the library and did not pay for it.
I have been a Forex trader for a long time now and 80% of this book is not relevant any more.
Pretty superficial by .. Sue () Lots of historical perspective, but lacks specific techniques and strategies. Also pretty dated now. Lots of filler and anecdotes, too.
Not worth it by .. J. Houston (Salt Lake City) Of all the books I've read on Forex this has to be the least useful. There is no central theme, no "how to"....it's a collection of dis-jointed, unrelated trivia about the foreign currency market. Not worth the paper it's written on...in my view. You'll do considerably better reading nearly anything else. Don't waste your money or your time.
Good Introduction by .. John (NC) We recommend this book to our clients who want to learn more about global currency markets. It gives a great introductory overview and history of currency. Brief and well written.
You're better off reading something else... by .. J. Schneider (Monterey) So many editorial reviews on Amazon are so far off the mark...and this book is no exception. Poorly written, poorly edited and of course poorly priced. The author spends too much time on his personal observations, which are highly subjective of course, but devoid of the poignancy that would justify such missives. He then moves quickly from one topic to the next, explaining none in sufficient detail.
Much of what he writes isn't very important to a trader and is probably obvious to a student of financial markets. Laypeople will learn something about the world of forex, but this cursory treatment lacks focus. They are better off reading a few focused books. The few pages devoted to interviews from successful traders were informative, but I found myself disagreeing with some of the "facts" (read: opinions) offered up. If you must buy this book, take what is written here with a grain of salt. Then go buy a serious book on the stucture of the foreign exchange market, on risk management and on trading strategies.
This book will not make you a better trader and it certainly isn't worth the price.

Product Description Written by a top team of industry professionals, this must-have guide will introduce you to everything you'll need to know about MXF. The book also explains the reasons behind many details of the specification documents. * The only complete introductory resource on MXF * Written by the key authors of the standard * The book includes video, audio, metadata, television, film, and multimedia Customer reviews rich metadata inclusion by .. W Boudville (Terra, Sol 3) MXF is an ambitious idea that has been long overdue in the film and audio industries. It harks to the common problem of how to compress and store films, and do so digitally. There are tremendous advantages in doing so, including the ability to analyse and manipulate such films with ever more powerful software. The enduring problem has been various different compression and storage standards.
The authors describe how an industry wide effort has produced MXF. It certainly took long enough; 5 years! But perhaps the deal was worth the wait. Thumbing through the book, you can see that provision has been made for very flexible inclusion of metadata. A rich format that permits sophisticated file searching based on that metadata.
Plus, there is aid for transitioning between current encodings and MXF. The aim is clearly for MXF to be a global standard.

T. McKenna (Virginia) This book should be titled "The Worst Damn...".
I have only read the SQL section up to this point but this book is only useful for intermediate level DBAs and if you are an intermediate DBA you wouldn't need the book so I'm not sure where it fits into the hierarchy of information but it defiantly is not for beginners or anyone coming from a different RDBMS.
My biggest complaint is that the book in not organized progressively building your knowledge upon what you read in a previous section. The norm is to introduce a specific feature, for example stored procedures, without any prior definition, the author just tells you out of the blue to use stored procedure xyz and never explains what a stored procedure is. This happens over and over again and you will quickly find yourself frustrated because you can't follow along as you have no previous knowledge of what the author is talking about.
There are no installation instructions other than to tell you that you should only install the necessary modules for your environment. There is no mention of how to create a database; the author just starts talking about roles, security, authentication mode, etc.
Again, I'm not sure what anyone could get out of this book because you have to already have a sound understanding of SQL to follow along and if you already have a sound understanding of SQL these guys aren't telling you anything you don't already know.
I hope the sections on Exchange and IIS are better.
