This book is super! Has every verb tense laid out for you, with plenty of sentence examples of everyday uses. I use this book all the time! It was seriously the best $15 I have ever spent on a book.

First of all, this book is a must have. If you need to rationalize this purchase, just look at it as the best $15.00 you'll ever spend on a German verb book. I own several dictionaries and a few verb-only books. I have the most recent Webster's New World 575+ German Verbs, and I love it too.
The Webster's version is a nice one for taking to a class in your bag, or for a quick reference. There are a few reasons why The Big Yellow Book is the better of the two. I will say here that there is nothing that isn't in The Big Yellow Book that is in the Webster's, but there is a lot missing from the Webster's that is clearly laid out here in this book. Don't be fooled by the 575+ Webster's number to the 555 Big Yellow Book; the Yellow Book wins, hands down!
The main thing I love about the Big Yellow book is the fact that it clearly lays out the separable prefix verbs (Webster's does not do this except in one or two cases); this is often already known by most people who have a basic understanding of German, but many verbs can be tricky as to whether it is separable or not; some verbs are both separable and inseparable each having different meanings.
The second thing is that the cross-reference section in the back is extremely complete. Many verb dictionaries have a fairly adequate one, but the Big Yellow Book is the most complete I have ever seen in a dictionary; it also features some really obscure verbs like "umnachten" [to enfold in darkness] and many other more obscure verbs. Honestly, it is by far and away the most complete all-in-one verb dictionary I have come across.
The Big Yellow Book also offers a very extensive list of idioms for the "Top 50" German verbs (all the other verbs list between 8-15 idiomatic uses). These "Top 50" have entire pages dedicated to idiomatic uses of verbs in conversation, which if you have learned anything about German it is the fact that the idioms get a little far from the meaning you expect. This is really useful for anyone wishing to communicate with any hope of sounding like a Deutscher(in).
The Big Yellow Book has a very in-depth study of grammatics for the first 38 pages. I found this entire section quite useful to cementing these concepts in my mind. The grammatic section even covers the 1999 Spelling Reform (for verbs), which I have never seen in a verb-only dictionary.
The only complaint I could make is a very minor one, the book is wonderfully laid out and I would change none of that, but they put the verb auxiliary "haben" or "sein" in a place that takes a moment to get used to, because it is not in the heading or directly below the verb in the heading. The book leaves ample space to place it near the verb entry. Like I said, it is only a minor complaint I could make.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone wishing to learn German, especially conversational German. Both the cross-reference section of odd verbs and the largest use of idiomatic expressions I have ever seen in any dictionary make this a must have. Seriously, buy this book! It really is the most bang-for-your-buck you will find, even against dictionaries that run close to $75 or more. Literally, this book has 1,000s of verbs that are, or easily are, fully conjugated. I like all these paradigm verb displays. This is great for using, just for backup, or for quelling an occasional student objection. Of course, if you are wrong, it serves as a negative reinforcement, but that is good for you. Essential for your German references.

This is an excellent book. I have been self-teaching myself german for the past year or two, and this has helped a lot!
While this book is larger and may resember a medium sized cities phone book, the knoweldge it contains will outweigh any trouble that may be caused by carrying it around!
It tells you if it is a top 50 verbs, it also gives a bit of a grammar lesson for those that need a little brush up on what tense is! If you are learning german, by-pass the "white" books that have less verbs.

My daughter loved this book, and now my son, 3, loves it too. It is a book that gets an outing everyday. The ability to drive the car, fix the seatbelt, pump the petrol is like a dream come true. unfortunately the carboard tabs do eventually wear out and so I am now buying copy number three.
Great book concept - poor execution  by .. ()
While my 2.5 year old daughter loves this book, I am afraid it will not last very long. The interactive gas pump, oil dip stick, and other features are not constructed for a child to use. The cardboard bends easily, and the slots to stick the devices in are not readily usable, even for an older child. Hopefully upon future printings the publisher will upgrade the above.

Our 21 month old just adores this book - and it's so appealing we can understand why. She loves all the activity - filling the gas tank and turning the steering wheel. And she has learned all kinds of new words and concepts. And almost as important - it occupies her for whole minutes at a time!

Children learn best by doing and doing is what they get to do in this book. With the turn of each page the children anxioulsy await what task they will do next. My 5 year old loves filling the tank, driving it along the road, and running it through the car wash.

The Big Yellow Treasury is a great collection of three stories -- The Pony Show, The School Fair and Henry Goes to the Hospital -- all of which are great for early readers and perfect reading for bedtime.
We own a number of Thomas books (check my other reviews). We've been reading this book for a couple years. My sons are now 5-years old and 4-years old. They are a little too old for the Thomas picture books, which are better for 2-3-year olds.
My sons' bookshelf holds roughly 80-100 books and we have 6-7 Thomas books in our collection. I recommend this book for your bedtime reading.

My older son is a huge Thomas fan, and had me read him "Thomas the Tank Engine's Big Yellow Treasury" every night for weeks when I bought it. My second son (2 years old) also now adores this book and never tires of the story. Unlike some of the "classic" stories, these are very pleasant and great for small children, as well as for early readers. The books also have bigger and brighter illustrations than many Thomas books, and with 3 stories in one book you get good value. If you have kids between 18 months and 7 or 8 years old, this book is a winner (all of this applies equally to the Big Blue Treasury - the two favorites out of the 30 plus Thomas books the boys have).

My 3 year old boy likes this book quite a bit. He likes to have all three stories read to him before he goes to sleep each night. The stories are pleasant enough and the illustrations are colorful. I find the book a little bland but the noncontroversial nature of the characters (there's none of the meanness that characterizes some of the Thomas characters) and the simple storylines makes for good bedtime reading.

My boy loves Thomas, and the two "big treasury" books are now an indispensible part of our bedtime reading. We have many Thomas books, but these just fascinate him - they are a bit more complete as stories (i.e. beginning, middle, end) than some of the other Thomas books, and comforting in that there's no nastiness, as in some of the early Thomas books (no angry trains, derailing tricks, etc.) I recommend these books highly.

This is a charming little book. I used it with my grandchildren to grow sun flowers. The book is an excellent way to show young children how the plant grows especially when they can't see what is happening. The fold out format is very cute but I think the paper used to make the book won't be very durable so I think the book will have a short life. But, it's fun and informative and young children loved it.

I was hoping to find a book of nice photographs of construction equipment for my digger-crazy toddler and chose this book because of the positive reviews and because we have Caterpillar's Big Farm Machines book which has nice photos of farm equipment. Unfortunately this book was quite disappointing. Because it is focused on teaching colors many of the photos are close-ups on parts of the vehicles which are not very interesting for my toddler. Also for teaching colors there are some odd choices (for instance a picture of garbage at a landfill to teach "many colors").

Santa brought my son this book for Christmas in his stocking and he loves it! At 3 years old he is quite a "dig-dig" lover and with my family being a CAT employee family it was perfect! The pictures are great and he enjoys sitting with his dad and admiring them all. Definitely not for a child that is still in the biting/chewing stage, as the cardboard pages would get ruined. A definite A+ book!

This book is lots of fun for a baby-preschooler learning colors. Every 2-page spread has the text on some brilliant color on one side, and a photo of a big yellow Caterpillar machine on the other. "The hard hat is green. The loader is yellow." At the end, it says all these big machines are yellow! In case you didn't catch it the first time... It gives yellow a good name! Good fun to read to your child, with nice photos of some very impressive machines.
