Extremely Disappointed 1 by .. Connie Thomas (Cold, cold Minnesota)
I know I would have enjoyed this book(s) if I had ever gotten them. 1 look books never sent me anything: not my books, not an answer to my e-mails(plural), but of course they billed my credit card the day I sent the order. That was 24 Nov. and it is now Dec.27, 2008. My review: I truely liked the book when I took it out of my local library. It was very interesting and had a lot of great ideas in pairing spices and herbs with various foods It wasn't a cookbook but rather a jumping off spot for cooking.

Spice Reference 4 by .. Sally (Pembroke Pines, FL)
This heavy, almost 400-page tome is a great idea for someone who is already a good cook, but who would like to become a gourmet. It's divided into three sections: Learning the Language of Food, Communicating Via the Language of Food, and The Charts, which focuses on the matchmaking of flavors. It's quite detailed. Why there's ten pages on cheese! It's a culinary reference book for the chef at heart.

as a gift 5 by .. M. Cameron ()
I gave this book to my mother as a gift. She reports that she just loves it. It does not have any recipes, but all the flavor suggestions are great. They tried bacon and herbs on salmon as directed and loved the flavor.

THE FLAVOR BIBLE - THE BIBLE OF ALL KITCHENS! 5 by .. J. Hammer (Madison, WI USA)
GET THIS BOOK! I LOVE THIS BOOK! This is the best book I have seen yet! As a personal chef wanna-be, a food network junkie and a lover of food, this will help me to make food taste GREAT! I never know what goes with what and this helps! This goes by alphabetical order so this is an excellent reference book for the most popular room in your house: the kitchen! I can't wait to start using it!

Gift for a cook 4 by .. M. Massung (Arizona)
I bought this book as a gift for someone that cooks. With its detail on mixing ingredients for different flavors I feel that it will be a great gift.

Great Bible, however... 5 by .. R. Farmer (USA)
This is, without question, a great Bible. However, I have two issues, one relates to personal pronouns used for members of the Godhead, and the second one is relative to my copy of this Bible which I purchased from Amazon.

Call me quirky, but I prefer to have personal pronouns which refer to members of the Godhead capitalized. The ESV does not do this.

The second issue relates to some type of printing error on about three pages: two in Galatians and one in Ephesians. The text on the binding side of the pages printed in such a way that it appears blurry--as if it were printed over twice. For the main text this is not such a big deal. But, the very small text of the cross-references, and to a lesser degree the text of the study notes, is very difficult to read due to being blurry. This problem is somewhat negated by using a magnifying glass. It's not really a big deal, but I thought that I would mention it.

ESV Study Bible 5 by .. Cali ()
I learned about the ESV Study Bible from our church. If you want to really learn God's Word, this is a great tool! Excellent commentaries included, along with more maps, charts and relevent information to help you understand God's Word and His message to His children. I believe you will enjoy it! :-) Great price on Amazon and delivery right to my door in awesome time.

OUTSTANDING STUDY BIBLE!! 5 by .. John Wolf (San Francisco Bay Area, CA)
This Bible has it all! Color Maps, charts, good study notes, detailed outlines, a handy concordance, cross refs, timelines, a mini Biblical Doctrine Overview (not a exhaustive systematic theology textbook), a mini guide to major religions and cults in the back, history of salvation in the OT verse guide in the back, and so so much more!! This is the most outstanding Bible I have ever used!

I previously owned the Reformation Study Bible but was not impressed with the study notes, and other helps in the book, so hopefully someone will buy that one. I also own a Zondervan NIV Study Bible which is quite nice and was previously the most advanced study Bible I had used.

My only gripe(s) about this Bible are as follows.

1. Text is in 1 column instead of the traditional 2 column format for Bibles.
2. Words of Christ are not in Red
3. Size

None of these gripes are enough to deduct a star, just hopefully CrossWay will also release a condensed ESV Study Bible and leave the rest of the stuff online, or for those wishing the bigger study Bible. The words of Christ NOT in red will take some time getting used too, but hence the advantage is that no one can read the Bible and argue that only Christs words are inspired.

many thanks 5 by .. Jannette Thomas ()
Bought this Bible for my niece knowing she was wanting to buy one herself. She was so thrilled, thank you so much.

Highly Recommended 5 by .. T. Bassett (Upstate NY)
This Bible is solid resource for anyone who wants to dig deeper into God's word. As a pastor, I immediately integrated this Bible into my weekly sermon prep. The text, graphics, maps, and tables are all stunning and extremely helpful, as are the study notes, which are practical and well written.

Concerning the binding; it seems very well made and I have not had any of the issues with "bunching" that is listed in other reviews. And I absolutely love the look and feel of the TruTone Brown cover. Highly recommended.

This is the first Bible I've owned in a long time that I just don't want to put down.

God: The Comple the Works in two volumes 5 by .. Lucifer (www.bobshakespeare.com)
A Zondervan Corp sales person with an overstock of new NIV Bibles to sell may tell you, "Do not listen to the 'KJV-Only!' crowd." He may tell you that King James I of Great Britain was "a flaming, red-haired homosexual Scot who nearly every weekend buggered the members of his own Privy Council."

Okay, maybe that's true. But should we therefore suspect that a flaming "King James Version Only" man, such as the Rev. Marion "Pat" Robertson, is homosexual as well? I think not! I cannot believe that Pat Robertson is a closeted gay just because he strongly prefers the so-called "Sodomy-tolerant" KJV. That Pat suffers from a deep homosexual panic about the very possibility of closeted gayness? Okay, sure. But can you blame him? How would you like to have spent your puberty and Saturday nights in the dorms and closets of an all-boys military school in Tennessee if you were a cute teenaged, sexually ambiguous, youth named "Marion"? Truly, if the atheists and homosexuals of this world knew one tenth of what the bullies at that military school put him through, such as the nickname, "Minnie Mouse," then I think they'd better understand Pat Robertson's passion to "ride with the king" - with King James, that is!

But let me add this, in Pat's defense: if King James and Pat Robertson should ever meet in Heaven, it will not be Marion "Pat" Robertson who is the first one to say, "Tickle me Elmo!" I know Pat well enough to vouch that he would never ask another man to tickle his elmo; or another woman, for that matter. If anyone tickles Pat Robertson's elmo, it will be Pat himself.

Besides, King James did not personally translate the "King James" Version. As the King of England, James merely put up the cash for the fifty British scholars who did the actual work - most of whom, granted, were gayer than Truman Capote on a spring day in Amsterdam. That interesting historical fact may explain why the allegedly "homo-tolerant" Authorised Version goes easy on the biblical heroes, David and Jonathan, and on the prophet Daniel, and the apostle John; but it can shed no light on the Marion Pat Robertson mystery, nor will the behavior of those fifty dissolute KJV translators ever get Pat to change his position. For one thing, they're dead. Seriously, in these "end times," when Jesus could be returning at any minute, it would be a mistake for English readers to reject the Authorised Version of the Bible simply on whatever nagging doubts they may have concerning the Jacobean nature of Rev. Pat Robertson's concealed sexual proclivities.

What a crock! They should be ashamed of themselves! 2 by .. C. Eaker (Atlanta, GA United States)
I watched the video about it on Amazon and the Sierra Club is a sponsor. Since when did the Sierra Club care anything about Christianity? Apparently, when they figured out how they can use it to advance their liberal agenda. Also, as soon as I saw that Brian McLaren was a supporter, I immediately wrote it off as an attempt at liberal propaganda using the Bible. The video also implies that Christians don't take care of the earth. What a crock!

You should also read the excerpt on Amazon from Barbara Brown Taylor where she says that she was really let down when she realized that man was made on the same day as the cattle (Genesis 1:24-27). So now, she says, she realizes that we are no better than cows. Hello! Cows were not made in God's image! Cows were not created for communion with God. Cows were not given a soul, and Jesus did not come to earth as a cow. I couldn't believe what I was reading.

I gave it two stars because it still is the word of God, but the total lack of respect for God's word is shameful.

Green is good 5 by .. Kenneth A. Peterson (wi)
I bought this for a gift for a freind. With a title like that I was concerned about the "slant" that it would have. I was pleased when I looked at it and my friend says he has read the Bible more in the last couple weeks than the last 30 years.

Hypocrisy in action! 1 by .. Old Man Irish ()
I find it very ironic that those of you who gave this "bible" a positive review stated that you already own one, even many, Bibles! So what you are saying is that you are willing to kill more trees and harvest more cotton just so you can own ANOTHER bible?! You call that ecologically-friendly?! Sounds like the epitome of HYPOCRISY! Suggestion: why dont you go READ THE BIBLE YOU ALREADY OWN?! And while you're reading make sure to read through the book of Revelation, especially the passages that talk about how the Lord will be destroying this sin-riddled EARTH that you are working so hard to preserve. Maybe you'll come to realize that the almighty and infinite God who CREATED this current earth also has the ability to preserve it and it's environment if He wants to!! You think He needs YOUR help? You give yourself too much credit.

Doesnt anyone realize that this is a simple ploy by Harper to make more money off of you?! Do you really think they are ecologically-concerned? The simple fact that they continue to sell you another Bible you dont need is proof enough that when they say "green" they're only thinking about the "green" in your wallet!

PS: when is the "pink letter" bible coming out for little girls? Or the "blue" bible for boys? Maybe a "rainbow" bible for gays? Sure, why not? The worlds full of trees to cut down and use without care or caution, right Harper?

An Intolerable Mockery 2 by .. Scott Bird ()
Readers beware, this is not a "Bible" it is a poorly repackaged, scholarly indefensible, cheap marketing ploy form Harper and all scorn should be heaped upon them for such an endeavor. Verses that are highlight to purportedly show the environmental theology of the bible are poorly chosen. The bible does have much to say concerning stewardship of the environment and I refer you to Francis Shaffer's excellent work "Pollution and the Death of Man" but the green bible is brown in my book, like the dirt it should be buried in.

If anything ever marked a point in the road when the consumer should protest the incessant flow of garbage from publishing houses like Harper, now would be the time. It's time to hold publishers accountable for what they produce by voting with your pocket book. Please discern that I am not saying that this book should be forbidden from being printed, that would be "intolerant". I'm saying spend your money on something more worthwhile and they'll get the message. Shame on you Harper! And shame on the fool who falls prey to yet one more shameless marketing ploy.

The Green Bible/ Great Book 5 by .. Cinta (Missouri)
The Green Book is wonderful. I have shared it with friends and two of them are asking to receive it for a Christmas exchange gift!! It is a very insightful book for anyone interested in ecology. Thanks

Children's Bible 5 by .. Jessica J. Nelson (NY, NY)
This Bible is written in a way that makes the Scriptures come to LIFE for children. I cannot help but getting teary when I read it as well. The words do not deviate from the Truth of the Bible, but only enhance it. There are so many things that are articulated so clearly the way God had intended them to be understood in this book. Kids love it, it's full of great pictures and words.

Read it from beginning to end!

Great book about Jesus for children 5 by .. Lillian ()
This was a great book that I really enjoyed with my young children. The story was well written and the illustrations made the story come to life. It's a great way to spend time with your kids. By the way there is a beautiful new book on Jesus for adults entitled "The Enlightenment, What God Told Me After One Million Prayers: A Message for Everyone," by John H. Eagan. It's really great and deals with Jesus' teachings and His Passion so deeply but you have to be an adult to appreciate it.

Great for kids 5 by .. Richmond Readers (Richmond, VA)
We love reading this Bible to our daughter. What is especially notable is the way that it is written in easy to understand lingo and ties the OT scriptures to Christ - the great Rescuer.

Enjoyable Bible story book 4 by .. Mom of three ()
I bought this book months ago and read it with my older two children each night for our storytime. They are ages 6 and 10. I absolutely loved the book, regardless of the fact that the author took a few creative liberties as mentioned in other reviews. While I would love it to be absolutely perfect and true, I've found that many children's bibles are so factual they don't hold a child's attention. I feel this book is accurate in the important things, and only deviates from very little things that would require more explaining, thus making the story too complicated. Like one reviewer mentioned the book says Jesus fed 5000 people when it was actually 5000 men plus women and children. Try to explain that to a child without getting more questions like "why doesn't the Bible just say how many of everyone?" which just serves to get you off topic.

Overall, I thought the book was great and my children loved it as well. They looked forward to the next story each night, unlike other Bibles I've tried. By the end, they had memorized the mantra at the end of most stories that God loves us with an unfailing, neverending.....love. Now, my 10 year old did seem to tire of that repetition, but it was nice that it was drilled into their heads of how God has done all these things because of his love for us.

Under age 10, this book is awesome. By age 10, your child may want something more substantial, but they still enjoy it.

very, very good. It doesn't shame kids into following God out of Fear! 5 by .. Emily Connelly ()
This is an awesome kid Bible. It takes license yes, but it is for 3-8 yr olds. The heart of the Gospel is in it. Plus as a bonus no manipulation! woo hoo! Check it out!

Just Enjoy the Reading 5 by .. NeverMind (Branson, MO)
Poisonwood Bible is one of my favorite books, why pick it apart? Every few years I get hungry to read it again. My criteria for a good book is simple: Does it make me laugh, cry, think, feel, does it take me into other worlds or other times? Poisonwood does all of those things.

Lost in Africa 4 by .. t. yule (Belle Plaine, MN)
I did a little reading about Kingsolver and I found out that her parents were missionaries, which provides an interesting angle to this all ready interesting novel. The novel is set in Africa in the 1960's. A baptist minister, Nathan Price, brings his wife and 4 daughters to Africa to convert the locals into Christians.

The story is told through the women. At first, with so many narrators, I was a bit confused as to who was who, but after awhile each daughter's voice emerges and it became easier to tell who was telling the story. The mother's voice is heart-wrenching as she looks back at their life in Africa.

There are many layers to this book: sexism and racism being the biggest. But there is also the question of moral authority: who dictates it? Who is right? And who has the right to force it upon others? The women, regardless of culture, are not seeing as influencers of society, but rather as people living through it - getting the laundry done, taking care of the children and not interested in the bigger picture that men play (Leah, the middle daughter, being the exception). There are a lot of questions about society that the book brings up and would be excellent for a book club discussion.

Overall, I loved The Poisonwood Bible. It is definitely a heavy read and the tone throughout the novel is one of sadness. If you are looking for a lighthearted read - this isn't it. If you are interested in something a deeper - read this.

Great story, incredible writing style 5 by .. Bradley Nelson (Minneapolis, MN)
I read this book in high school. Not the kind of book most high school guys would enjoy. But I loved it. The story is certainly interesting, but I was more enamored with the writing style than anything else. Each chapter is told from the first-person perspective of a different member of the family. The chapters told my the mentally retarded daughter are the most fascinating. It is so interesting to see how each different character interprets events differently. A must-read for any fan of literature.

My Introduction to Writing 5 by .. Bob Royal (Phoenix, AZ USA)
This is a book folks have probably already described as one of those you'll compare all that you've read before and since. I will describe it as my introduction to literature, to writing. Perhaps I'm late to the party, what's new? The book was an Oprah book, so lots of us have already been all over this juan, and writefully so.

This story is told first person by 5 persons. I would say girls or women, but can't because it's not that simple, better than that and it wouldn't be fair. A mom and four daughters. Each and every one of them tell this story in turn. These ladies go to Africa with their baptist minister dad, Nathan Price. I want to tell you about these Prize girls and their mom. I'll let them tell you about brother Nathan Price and the other parts. This wheel has already been invented and perfected.

I was thinking earlier today that stories must dream of being told by Kingsolver, like (may god forgive me) an egg wants to be an Egg McMuffin in a corny McDonalds kind of way. To be told by Kingsolver is to be told well. She goes in and doesn't come back out until there are no story prisoners left behind. Like a net dropped into the ocean and brought up and released on deck. The details are there jumping all over the place in plain sight now, as exciting as all get out. Everyone of them will be touched and moved to their rightful place. Every marvelous one of them. I had no idea there was that much just under the surface.

Barbara does 5 entire souls in about 543 paperback pages. Before I finished I knew I was going to go again, and I did. I'm like what am I gonna read now?

From Rachel, the oldest daughter: If anyone presumed I was too young for a conversation about adulters and not getting babies they had another think coming.

From Leah, one of the twins: It struck me what a wide world of difference there was between our sort of games -- "Mother May I?", "Hide and Seek" -- and his: "Find Food", "Recognize Poinsonwood", "Build a House". And here he was a boy no older than eight or nine. He had a younger sister who carried the family's baby everywhere she went and hacked weeds with her mother in the manioc field. I could see that the whole idea and business of childhood was nothing guaranteed. It seemed to me, in fact, like something more or less invented by white people and stuck onto the front end of grown-up life like a frill on a dress.

From Orlenna, mom: I was just one more of those women who clamp their mouths shut and wave the flag as their nation rolls off to conquer another in war. Guilty or innocent, they have everything to lose. They are what there is to lose. A wife is the earth itself, changing hands, bearing scars.

From Adah, the other twin, my favorite: And all of us with our closed eyes smelled the frangipani blossoms in the big rectangles of open wall, flowers so sweet they conjure up sin or heaven, depending on which way you are headed.

From Rachel, describing her twin sisters: They spent so much time staring at each other's faces before they were born they can go the rest of their lives passing up mirrors without a glance.

From Leah describing Mama Tataba, their house-mom. She had a blind eye. It looked like an egg whose yolk had been broken and stirred just once. As she stood there by our garden, I stared at her bad eye, while her good eye stared at my father.

From Adah: Silence has many advantages. When you do not speak other people presume you to be deaf or feeble-minded and promptly make a show of their own limitations. ... It is true I do not speak as well as I can think. But that is true of most people, as nearly as I can tell.

And one more from mom: I know how people are, with their habits of mind. Most will sail through from cradle to grave with a conscience clean as snow. It's easy to point at other men, conveniently dead, starting with the ones who first scooped up mud from riverbanks to catch the scent of a source. Why, Dr. Livingstone, I presume, wasn't he the rascal! He and all the profiteers who've since walked out on Africa as a husband quits a wife, leaving her with her naked body curled around the emptied-out mine of her womb. ...

This is a book I'll always have a copy of to lend, if I'm lucky to have copies of any. There is just so much in this book, so much to love about these women and Africa. The excerpts above are just that, excerpts. None of us can be rightfully described by an excerpt. No way. But a glimpse. The bar has been raised by Kingsolver.

"Gripping story of growing up and finding meaning in life" 5 by .. Ed Philosopher ()
A masterpiece of literary craft and social conscience. A well-researched and biting critique of American imperialism in Africa in the 1950s and '60s, and a matching parable of religion at its worst (and best, thanks to Brother Fowles), all rolled into a gripping story of growing up and finding meaning in life. The multiple first-person structure (wonderfully easy to follow) is pure writer's genius. (I fell in love with Adah!)

Keeps you wanting to read more 5 by .. Dave M. Galloway ()
I am really enjoying this bible. It's great! It includes a time-line of different events and gives a daily reading that is easily achieved. Because of its short daily readings, it's easy to read a weeks worth.

It's great to have the events in chronological order, too. I'm looking forward to reading the chronological histories of 1 & 2 Samuel, 1-2 Chronicles, and 1-2 Kings. I'm really enjoying its layout.

It includes an explanation of its translation in the front of the book as well, for those who are skeptical of other translations.

Great choice! 5 by .. Zelpha N. Long (Eureka Springs, AR USA)
I've been a student of the Bible for many years and own numerous versions and study guides, including the Dakes. They're wonderful, but to be able to just sit down with this easy-reading Bible (NIV) that puts everything in chronological order has been a total pleasure.

I've given some for gifts already and just got through ordering some more to give.

Excellent reference book for the Bible 5 by .. Dream Sleeper (Florida)
I am Catholic and as you may know Catholics don't read or study the Bible. Of course, the readings for each Mass are from both the Old and the New Testiments but there is no continuity or chronological flow. This book rearranges some of the books of the Bible based on when they were actually written. Has a section detailing when each book occurred in time, and a descriptions of weights and measurement (actually tells the size of the famous "cubit"). The language of the verses has been modernized almost to the extent that you appear to be reading a novel instead of the old text of the Bible. I have compared the theme of the verse with the actual Bible version and the meanings are exactly the same only this book makes it understandable.
The daily selections take about 15 minutes but it becomes so interesting I tend to read ahead.

Pretty Decent 4 by .. A. Murphy ()
The Bible is "relatively" chronological. It's difficult to put everything (especially the Gospels) in an exact order, I suppose, so the passages follow the "traditional" historical outline as most people understand it. However, I haven't read the whole thing yet.

1 year chronological bible NIV 5 by .. Ann Kelly-wyman (Omaha, NE USA)

This bible is a great choice if you would like to read the bible as a student and follow the events in the order that they happened. I learned several new facts just in the first two weeks.

Thank you so much for a great transaction. The book is wonderful, just as described. It arrived in super speed! Thanks!

Very helpful but a little dense 4 by .. Shly Myers ()
This book has a lot of information not only on how to read the Bible, but also on its historical context (exegesis) and how it can apply to us today (harmenuetics.) This book has so much though that to read this book for all its worth requires a dictionary and time. If you want to learn about the Bible as well as how to read and understand it and have the time to go through it, then this book will be a great buy for you.

Simple, yet in-depth 4 by .. J. C. Cheng (Hawaii)
Great book that provides a great tool for how to get deeper into the Bible. It is easy to follow and fairly simple to see the points. They provide great examples from different passages with different translations. And using different examples on how to go through an exegesical study helps the reader to follow the process. Highly recommended.

How to Read the Bible for All Its Worth 3 by .. H. G. Sharp (Southeast MO USA)
Another book that was required for a course. Another book that would not otherwise have been purchased. Content was OK. It contained some helpful and insightful information.

Wonderful Read for Christians of all Persuasions 4 by .. Johnny Hopkins (Charlotte, NC United States)
The book is an excellent journey into the word of God and will get you pointed in the right direction. Many Christians do not study the word of God in the correct context and this book rectifies a long standing problem in the Evangelical community concerning the interpretation of Scripture. I was concerned about the author's pushing the TNIV as the translation of choice for serious study of the Bible. I would have preferred that they used the NRSV with the TNIV being a strong secondary translation for study. I did appreciate the fact that they encouraged the use of Bible dictonaries and commentaries to study scripture, but I felt that thay should have done a chapter on good study bibles that can aid in understanding the text. I did feel that they interjected their opinions too much in the book and gave us their pet peeves, couched in the language of exegesis and hermeneutics. In the same vein, they did debunk a few misinterpretations on some biblical passages and they allow for healthy dissent. The most important thing is to read the Bible and this book gives a good start.

This Item is Helpful in Bible Studies 5 by .. Mary A. Mcadory (Philadelphia, Ms.)

My Sunday School Teacher had a Bible like this and when she shared some things from this Bible, I knew that I wanted to own one. I went home and found it on Ebay. It is very Helpful in my Bible readings, especially as far as Timeline.

I am enjoying it and find it so informative.

A Great Resource 5 by .. Bryan Sims ()
When I was in college, my Con Law professor told us to always remember historical context when reading supreme court decisions. Since then, I have never failed to take that advice. Since then, I have come to believe that placing events in historical context is quite valuable for understanding them and the point that is being made.

The Chronological Study Bible helps put those historical contexts in perspective by arranging the Bible (to the extent possible) in chronological order. This means that books are not necessarily kept together, but instead that portions are arranged with portions from other books. Similarly, a book such as Jeremiah has been reordered to be chronological rather than its current arrangement.

This book comes with some excellent explanatory notes that explain the choices made by the arrangers. I am sure that Biblical scholars can endlessly debate how to chronologically arrange certain elements of the Bible. However, the notes explain the different options available for placement and why one option was chose over the others.

In addition, the Bible also contains large numbers of sidebars that detail information about topics such as agriculture, architecture, culture, society, daily life & customs, family, and politics. Also included are some great photographs of relevant locations, timelines that help put historical events in context, and a variety of maps to place things in a geographical context.

The book is beautiful, with full color pictures and illustrations throughout. Additionally, color is used to make the pages attractive and easy to read. Most importantly, however, the tops corners of the pages are color coded to allow easy access to each of the nine epochs into which the book is divided.

This book is well put together and would be an invaluable aid to anyone in their Biblical studies. I found the information included in the various sidebars to be quite informative and believe that they do an excellent job of providing additional information to help place the various passages in a greater context of the time period involved.

The only quibble that I have with the book is that the scripture index is found only in the back of the book. Every Bible I have ever seen includes a table of contents at the front that tells you where to find the various books of the Bible. I understand that this Bible is quite different in that it is chronological. However, I think it would be nice to have the index that was at the back, also included at the front.

On the whole, however, if have any interest in Biblical studies at all, I would highly recommend this book to you.

A study Bible 4 by .. Mark Weber (Avilla, IN United States)
This is a fine study Bible and very informative. The only drawback is in the study helps. Some of the authors come across as not believing the Bible is the inspired word of God. Some helps come across like they take a liberal view that the Old Testament is just a history of the Hebrews establishing a nation and taking hints from surrounding nations as to their need of establishing a national identity (Ruth, Jonah, and Ester are fairy tales). It is colorful and interesting. Easy to read.

Excellent resource for supplemental bible study and reading 5 by .. Laurence T. Baxter (Indiana USA)
The Chronological Study Bible (New King James Version) by Thomas Nelson Publishers is an outstanding resource for those who want to explore the bible in a fresh and novel way. A chronological bible arranges chapters and passages of the bible in chronological order (rather than canonical order), which at times presents quite a challenge for the authors. This particular chronological bible does a very good job at arranging the bible in historical order and in providing a great wealth of supplemental material about the historical and cultural contexts. It earns the title of a study bible due to a variety of notes, charts, pictures, and maps. While it does not replace a traditional bible or study bible (e.g. one with extensive cross-references and grammatical notes), it provides an excellent supplement for the reader who wishes to better see the dynamic landscape of scripture from creation to the end times.

The materials is nicely arranged, starting with a number of introductory notes about the chronology and about the NKJV, then the text itself is broken down into nine epochs: Before the Patriarchs, Time of the Patriarchs, Rise of a Unified People, From Tribes to a Nation, The Fall of Two Nations, Exile and Return, Between the Two Testaments, The Coming of the Messiah, and The Church Age. At the end are several nice articles on historical and cultural topics, a generous concordance, and a (very important) index of scripture passages which is needed to find where a given verse is located in the book.

The quality of the book and of the notes is really quite good. The format of short articles with relevant historical and cultural info right alongside the biblical text is not only useful, but highly engaging. At each point where there is a change of book or other break in the narrative, the study bible has a "Transition" section that I found very helpful in keeping the narrative flowing, as well as in alerting the reader that they're entering a new book of the bible. That sounds trivial for a regular bible but it's important for a chronological ordering which might go back and forth between two or more books of the bible. It was particularly interesting to read through New Testament books and missionary journeys via the interspersing of chapters of Acts along with Galatians, James, Thessalonians and others.

For in-depth understanding of the meaning of the text and for discipleship bible study there are better tools available, but this book serves its purpose well in helping us understand the historical flow of the events of scripture, and in given us a better understanding of the cultural background present in the lives of biblical characters. As supplemental study material, or for those looking to read through the bible in a year, this NKJV Chronological Study Bible is an excellent and enjoyable resource.

PERFECT FIRST BIBLE 5 by .. William E. Arledge III (Grove City, OH USA)
We purchased The Beginner's Bible for our Daughter as a Christmas gift. She loves it and is very interesting to her. I think this is the perfect beginner's bible with all the illustrations it will keep kids attention and make it fun to learn.

Best for ages 2-5 (not 4-8 as shown on Amazon)... 4 by .. ThisThatNEverything (Columbus, Ohio United States)
I bought this as a Christmas gift for my 7-year-old daughter. She'd been begging for a bible of her own & after reading the reviews & seeing the recommended age of 4-8 I thought it would be great for her. I was a bit disappointed when the book came & I saw right on the back cover that it states: Ages 2-5.

The reading is o.k. for her age but the illustrations would be best for the younger age group as suggested by the publisher. Nevertheless the stories are still great & it's a nice book. My 5-year-old son will enjoy this a bit more though than the 7-year-old.

I would recommend this book but to the ages 2-5 rather than 4-8.

A Good First Bible 4 by .. Amy (NC)
I had a chance to read this bible and the previous printed version. I liked this one better than the older copy. Although there is not too much of a difference. It was recommended to me by the Associate Pastor's wife of my church for my two year old daughter.

Just Wonderful - Really 5 stars 4 by .. Mai (Arizona)
This is a wonderful Bible for small children or new readers to introduce them to the Bible stories. The language is age-appropriate and the illustrations are great - not scary like some children's Bibles. This has been the 'textbook' for my Sunday School class (ages infant-2yrs) for 6 years and I make sure that all of my sweet little students have one to read at home also. It is comprehensive enough to cover most all of the lessons that we cover each year. This book is broken up into Bible 'stories' which are just the right length for a Bible lesson or bed-time story. I have seen many children's Bibles and this is my favorite. (I tried to go back and rate this 5 stars, but couldn't change it)

love it 5 by .. Jessica Wright (MS)
I love this book and so do my children 7 and 3. We have also taken it to church and used it in our sunday school class. Very well done.
