Product Description As fascinating as a real visit to the world's famous museums and architectural sites, GARDNER'S ART THROUGH THE AGES: A GLOBAL HISTORY gives you a comprehensive, beautifully illustrated tour of the world's great artistic traditions—plus all the study tools you need to excel in your art history course! Easy to read and understand, this 13th Edition of the most widely read history of art book in the English language is the only textbook that includes a unique "scale" feature (accompanying the book's photographs of paintings and other artworks) that will help you better visualize the actual size of the artworks shown in the book. You'll also find materials that will help you master the key topics quickly and help you study for your exams—for example, "The Big Picture" overviews at the end of every chapter, a special global timeline, and ArtStudy Online (a free interactive study guide that includes flash cards of images and quizzes). Customer reviews So what's new? by .. D. Tirado (Somewhere in Los Angeles) I purchased this book for my art history classes at a community college and I noticed that the chapters were rearranged from previous editions. I have either the 3rd or 4th edition but was forced to purchase the combined edition for both classes. The one good thing going for this textbook is the price is cheaper if you buy the combined edition rather than the individual ones. From reading several chapters already I don't see much in terms of improvement that would merit making a new, more expensive textbook but I guess the publisher has to keep finding ways to sell us what we already know from art history with a new shiny cover. The website that accompanies the text I haven't bothered to look up since several reviews I've read mention that it is completely worthless. Maybe next year if they release a newer version and force us to buy it again, they can at least throw in some better quality pictures or larger pictures so I can actually admire the artwork a bit more instead of the medium to small sized pictures that are the norm. I understand ink is expensive but at the price we're being asked to pay it doesn't seem like much to ask.
My only problem so far is the small amount of attention paid to Mayan art or even Salvador Dali. Mayan art and architecture only has about a page worth of reading while Dali is but a mere paragraph mention with only one painting shown.
I understand this is an extensive book on Art History so I shouldn't complain too much, but so far this is my only complaint along with the aforementioned cost and relatively lack of new material.
Gardner's Art Through the Ages by .. T. Mcgraw (Los Angeles, CA) This is a massive text, but it is filled with full-color, lush, beautiful pictures of art works through all time periods. Many of the illustrations are the quality of DK books. Far superior to most art texts I have worked with, and unlike some architecture texts that use black and white photos. The only real shame of using this as a class text is the fact that it is so big, it's hard to lug around without damaging it over time. A fine reference book to hold onto after using for a class. Built in pagemarkers make it convenient to find the correct chapter. A bit pricy, but worth the investment, especially if you are an art major.
Not worth the price. by .. L. Jean-Louis (No Place Like Home) I have to agree with the people who said the pictures were barely visible, the accompanying website had tons of broken links. I had to buy this for a class, normally I would've kept such a book for future reference, but this I couldn't wait to put it up for sale.
Great resource by .. Amy Bartholomew (Rochester, NY) I had to get this book for an Art History course, but found that it is used in four other courses I'm going to take later on. For an art history text, this is great product at a great price. A good resource for the future, as well.
Great deal! by .. F. Dardashti () This book was at a relatively great price, cheaper than the average by about $25. It was in perfect condition when it got here. Basically, everthing turned out great

Customer reviews Happy Customer by .. D. Ha (Silicon Valley, CA USA) Came in a timely matter. Great price (could have paid over a hundred dollars for it). Was honest in description. Well packaged. Thank you so much!
Written by a great professor of Art History by .. K. DANIELI (Port Chester, NY USA) I took one Art History course in my college career at Boston University and it was taught by Prof. Fred Kleiner, the author of this book. I clearly remember, over 25 years later, how wonderful and exciting Fred Kleiner's lectures in Art History were. When I go to museums I remember Prof. Kleiner's passionate, stirring descriptions of art and architecture. I was a business major, and his love for art really broke through and taught me to understand what is so wonderful about art. We also used Gardner's Art Through The Ages back in 1980, but it was before he was the author.
Great condition by .. Abby C. Clark () The book arrived in a very timely manner and it was in great condition -- no markings or bent pages. I would definitely buy from this seller again.
Horrible by .. Luis David Ramirez (FL, USA) I am extremely disappointed in amazon and this book. You guys delivered it over a month late.I'm not paying for amazon prime so I can receive much needed books over a month late. I had to go to my College bookstore and pay $120. You wanna know the worst part? They don't accept devolutions. So I'm extremely disappointed.
Good by .. Areli Lupercio (Schaumburg, IL USA) This book is very informative and it tries to explain so that there is not much confusion after looking it over.

Product Description Humanities through the Arts is intended for introductory-level, interdisciplinary courses offered across the curriculum in the Humanities, Philosophy, Art, English, Music, and Education departments. The book is arranged topically by art form from painting, sculpture, photography, and architecture to literature, music, theater, film, and dance. This beautifully illustrated text helps students learn how to actively engage a work of art. The new seventh edition retains the popular focus on the arts as an expression of cultural and personal values. Customer reviews A Worthwhile Journey by .. Irfan A. Alvi (Towson, MD USA) This book provides a thorough survey of pretty much all the arts (not just visual arts) using plenty of well-chosen examples, many examined in some depth.
The organization of the book generally has a chapter for each art form, with each chapter mostly organized into various themes. This complements other books organized according to an historical approach.
By the time one has progressed through the journey of the entire book, the diligent reader should come away enriched with new perspectives on life and reality.
The one downside of the book, which isn't minor, is that I found much of the writing to be unnecessarily complicated and tedious. I'm not saying that the authors needed to "dumb it down," but I do think they could have conveyed their message much more clearly without compromising its substance. It's as though they just adopted a clunky, somewhat highbrow style at the outset, got used to it, and than ran with it all the way through the book, forgetting the needs and wants of their audience in the process. Lest one think I'm being too critical, consider the book The Annotated Mona Lisa: A Crash Course in Art History from Prehistoric to Post-Modern, which is both enlightening and a joy to read.
The above issue brings my rating down to 4 stars, but I still certainly recommend the book because of the considerable value it brings to the reader. Just be prepared to be genuinely attentive as you read it. Your investment of time and effort will be well rewarded.
Thanks Amazon by .. Shahida Y. Cheema (ARLINGTON VA) I love to buy my books on this web site because i never had any problems with orders.
Disappointed by .. Ladeana Bencomo (Southern California) I ordered using ISBN number as given by my university. What I received was not the same ISBN. It was the same title of the book, just the incorrect revision. I am doing an accelerated course, so the seller's offer of just return it for a full refund was not very helpful to me. I don't know if the problem was with the seller or Amazon. I am quite dissapointed that I got the wrong book. There are discrepancies.
Thank you by .. T. O. Connor (Ballston Spa, New York, United States) Speedy and as ordered. If you are ordering this book for a class, make sure you get the correct ISBN number. There is a 2008 edition of this book!

Customer reviews Not what I expected. by .. Alex Calderon () This book had the wrong picture and description on the website, the description said Version 12 and it ended up being Version 11, gave me problems in my class because apparently, the version 12 has a lot more pictures than 12, oh well, my loss.
complete package by .. studentmom (MN) Book received in good condition and complete with all additional material. It was hard to find this edition complete with CD.
Very pleased by .. K. Moneypenny (Florida) I ordered this book for a college class. It was shipped right on time and in perfect condition. I was very impressed. Couldn't beat the price either, it was a lot less expensive than the college bookstore.
Good starting point by .. Noga Rosenthal (New York, New York) This book is a good starting point for those trying to learn about art history. It's used in many colleges and is well written. - Noga Rosenthal
Its great for some stuff! by .. Rania (Trinidad and Tobago) I bought this text for my art history class, and I must say that the parts of the book about European art are great, but it fails with regards to its treatment of Asian, African and Native American Art. If I were a member of any of the above-mentioned groups, I would be greatly offended, because it just flies through those chapters, with a very Western way of looking at things...sad! The other sections are amazing, but this way of looking non-european art is common and I should be used to it by now! Since my course is based around this text, I must say that I am disappointed by my course too!

never again by .. M. Faria () I purchased (or rather tried to purchase) this book with CD for my daughter and have it shipped to her for her college course. The first book arrived unsealed, no CD, no student guide. I called, the first customer service rep suggested I tried to find the CD on my own on-line and purchase it seperately. I called back and the second customer service rep agreed to send a new set and emailed me the return lable for the first book. SURPRISE! second book came unsealed and without the CD or student guide. They are both going back. I ended up buying the book directly from the publisher and it was less than was listed at Amazon. Plus, the publisher told me that the CD is packed inside the book. The only way it would have been missing is that someone esle bought the book and returned it, keeping the CD and then Amazon resold the book as new. Totally disgusted with the whole thing.
Book in condition that was stated but too long on the delievery by .. Camilo A. Sanz (DC, USA) The book came as described by the seller and the CD that comes with the book is has great resources for studying the chapters but I have never waited so long for a book to arrive from amazon, I ordered on the first week of my class and I got it the third week into my class which wasn't very helpful to me

I have no regrets now after finishing my course and exploring this amazing Art Histoty book. It is something you will have for a lifetime and be glad that you do!
