Does what it says on the tin 5 by .. Paraic Brennan (Co Roscommon, Ireland)
I bought Photoshop Elements in August 2008. I found the online manuals somewhat confusing and my results were patchy so I bought this book. I wanted to both read through it and keep it as a reference book. The writing style is clear and I am more than half way through the book. My technique and workflow is improving all the time. I would recommend this book to anyone other than an expert in Photoshop.

Worth the money! 5 by .. Jan V. Jensen ()
Answers all of my questions. Easy to read or use as a reference source.

PSE 6 For Mac 4 by .. Jack H. Kaufman (Broomfield, CO)
This is a most excellent book for Mac users. It takes the reader through a rather complicated program step by step. I have only two suggestions. First, it would be helpful if the authors would provide more sample pictures on which to practice. Second, it is sometimes difficult when they suggest that you refer to information 100 pages later in the book. I try to use "Missing Manuals" for any new programs I purchase. Trying to get by on the help menu or material that comes with the programs is a waste of time.

Photoshop Elements 6 4 by .. Fred Hobson (Kansas)
This book on Photoshop Elements 6 is very comprehensive and well written. I am totally new to Photoshop and have found it helpful. The amount of material in the book is a bit overwhelming. I am sure that over time as I become more familiar with Photoshop Elements 6 I will be able to make better use of the book.

Major Aid In My Use Of Elements 6.0 for Mac 5 by .. Esteban Ess (Austin, TX United States)
I am just starting to get into this book and have already obtained solutions to vexing problems that I did not have the patience to run to ground by using on line help and tutorials. The book helps me decide what is and is not important in the use of Elements 6.0 for the Mac - then provides the answers to my questions.

For example, in a matter of minutes, I was able to find out how to "right click" to edit an image in Elements directly from iPhoto and then how to save the changed image back to iPhoto. My Apple iMac software (both iPhoto and Elements 6.0) were on the wrong settings and I was having a terrible time trying to figure out the changes I needed to make in Preferences. Even the Apple in store Rep was not able to explain how to do this basic step. I got my answer in minutes from this book and now am already saving a lot of time.

I expect as I read further and apply the information as I go along that I will finally master Elements 6.0.
I also bought the Missing Manual for iPhoto '08 and the two manuals play very well together. Why oh why doesn't Adobe make it this simple? These books are like having an experienced digital photography friend at your side ready to show and tell.

The simple (now) concept of how iPhoto files work in concert with Elements 6.0 has made me much more confident that I am on the right track to being a better image processor and printer. I look forward to trying the methods detailed in this book and growing in my expertise every day. Took the "chore aspect" right out of my hobby of digital and scanned image photography. And, when you have over 50,000 images in digital and film and print form as I do, and you can gain confidence in managing them, you have to thank a book like this one.

Photoshop Elements 6 Book for Digital Photographers 5 by .. C. Poythress (South Windsor, CT)
This is a great reference book that contains high quality photos and easy-to-follow instructions for organizing, editing and printing, with a heavy emphasis on editing. I highly recommend it for those who are not thoroughly proficient in Photoshop Elements. For the next edition, I'd like to see a chapter on the "fundamentals" of Photoshop, that explains when to use the various menu picks, which I find overwhelming as a casual user. This book is excellent at giving specific instructions, but it generally doesn't give the underlying philosophy as to why those instructions are given, so I'm forever having to go back to the book, rather than learning how to use the software more productively.

NOT completely MAC friendly! 4 by .. Lynn May (DEN,CO)
While I enjoy Scott Kelby and appreciate his vast knowledge. This latest book is not quite as Mac friendly as I'd like. I understand money, space and time constraints when it comes to publishing, however it's a real drag to get some of the information for the Mac, NOT listed in the book, from his web site. I appreciate that he has written the info at all,but it is difficult to read an on line chapter while you are on your computer actually PROCESSING your photos or trying to follow along in the non published chapters.

Just so you MAC users will know, BEFORE YOU BUY, not all information for MACs are published in this book. The missing chapters and information are on Scott's web site, so you'll either have to read them before hand, memorize 50 pages, or make notes/print out pages then start processing. If you have more than one computer I'd have the lap top for the missing chapters and use your Desktop unit for processing if it has the larger monitor.

It's great information and I really like the way Scott writes. I always have, but I'm only giving him 4 stars for the awkwardness of having to go to the website. It may not be a big deal for some, but I like to have the book next to my computer while I'm using my processing software.

Not useful if you have a Mac 2 by .. Jeremy Watkins (Tucson AZ)
I own an Imac. I've found this book, especially instructions related to printing, close to useless. Why is this so? Because the book is essentially designed for PC users, and details that a Mac user would need are offered as an afterthought. Which is to say they're cursory, poorly organized and often unclear. Photoshop Elements is complicated enough to learn without its capabilities being further muddied by someone who cannot think clearly or is basically uninterested in Macs. Many people, myself included, love using a Mac because we prefer not to spend hours tinkering with a computer (though I did that for years with a PC). This manual defeats the ultimate intent of owning a Mac. Someone needs to write a Photoshop Elements manual exclusively for Mac users. I regret having bought this one.

A must have for Elements 6 5 by .. Jeana Ogden ()
I bought 2 other books about learning PSE6 and I wish I had bought this one first and I wouldn't have needed the other books.

Best photo editing book I have found! 5 by .. Doll Artist (Colorado, USA)
Kelby always produces a thorough and entertaining look at Photoshop Elements. This is the 3rd of his books I have tried. Each one has had wonderful shortcuts and settings information that make using the Adobe program much easier. You don't have to work through the whole book to learn just what you need to fix a problem either!

Suspenseful sixth 5 by .. Jeremy A. Cacho (USA)
The Half-Blood Prince is somewhat of a build up to The Deathly Hallows. There is a great deal of suspense throughout the book, making the book a very fast read. From the beginning, this thrilling adventure entangles you and never lets you go until the very last page. Also in this book, unexpected events conclude with one of my favorite characters dieing making the ending have a very sad tone.
Anyone who likes suspense and action should read this book (and the series)!

Brilliant Novel, Yet the Darkest Harry Potter Book Thus Far 5 by .. Tom L. (Nashville, TN USA)
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince follows 16-year-old Harry Potter through his sixth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The book is darker than any of the prequels.

The book begins on a serious note. The new Minister of Magic, Rufus Scrimgeour warns the muggle Prime Minister of Voldemort's return. Voldemort is ready to kill on impulse and should be avoided by both members of the magic community and members of the muggle community. The number one target, of course, is the protagonist, Harry Potter. Harry has survived several former attacks by Voldemort and is prophesied to be the "chosen one" to kill him.

At Hogwarts, life is grimmer than it has ever been. Professor Snape replaces Professor Umbridge as Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher. This was the one job that Dumbledore refused to give him in the past because of his former connections to Lord Voldemort. Snape has gained Dumbledore's trust in recent years and accepts the job. Professor Slughorn, a former teacher at the school, obtains Snape's former position as Potions Teacher. Slughorn is immediately fond like to any student with supreme magical abilities and invites them to his parties. Harry, Hermione, and Ginny are included in this group. In addition, Dumbledore returns to the school with a charred, shrunken hand. He refuses to tell anyone why this has happened. Lastly, Malfoy is bestowed an important task by Lord Voldemort, which Harry overhears in the Hogwarts Express. Harry has no idea what the task is, but is convinced that he needs to stop him by any means possible.

On a lighter note, Harry is enjoying his sixth year at Hogwarts. He finds a used potions book with written in tips and spells on how to make the best potions in the quickest amount of time. The person who previously owned the book, the "Half-Blood Prince" remains an important mystery in the novel. He receives high marks in this class for the first time, sealing his position as Slughorn's favorite student. On the Quidditch team, Harry continues his position as seeker and Ron becomes the new keeper. Harry also begins his first serious relationship with a girl. Also, Dumbledore gives private lessons on Harry on how to defeat the Dark Lord. They continuously use the Pensieve as a means to discover who Lord Voldemort was as a child and how he came to be the evil man that he is now. This is probably the biggest highlight of the school year for Harry.

As usual, J.K. Rowling has written a world-class novel: a mix of action, adventure, romance, and deceit, but has given this novel a scarier twist. The reader can easily decipher the story and follow the characters as they grow emotionally. Instead of solving mysteries set forth by previous novels, this one presents several new questions. What is Malfoy's task? Can Snape be trusted? Why is Dumbledore's hand charred and shrunken? What will learning about Voldemort's childhood do to help Harry defeat him? And, finally, who is the "Half-Blood Prince"? Read this novel to find out the answers to these questions, you will be in for a surprise. I recommend this novel 100%.

An incredible novel 5 by .. Evan Wearne (Lincoln, NE United States)
With every Harry Potter installment, I find myself saying the new installment is my favorite of the series so far. Book 6 is no exception, and I think it is a credit to the author. The hopelessness and despair have increased in order for the readers to feel the plight of the characters. Starting with this book and continuing into the next, the reader feels the despair that afflicts the good wizard community. It has some similarities to World War II Germany. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel, even if it was a bit gloomy.

Riddled With Riddles About Riddle 5 by .. Franklin the Mouse (Gorham, ME USA)
Ms. Rowling has created another well-crafted adventure/mystery to the Harry Potter series. The reader will come to understand why and how Lord Voldemort became the evil, obsessed antagonist of the wizardry world. The author did a fine job of depicting the main teenage characters in an age-appropriate manner. Just like many 16-year-olds of this difficult age, some of Harry's, Ron's, and Hermoine's decisions are completely self-serving, unethical and, dare I say, meanspirited. Also, their puerile mood swings are very convincing and believable. A few new colorful characters are introduced as well as the enmity between Potter/Snape grows deeper and darker. There are smatterings of happy and funny moments, but for the most this book is pretty gloomy. Ms. Rowling has crafted a cliffhanger that easily will propel me into reading the last installment.

perfect for beginners 4 by .. Samson (San Diego)
This is a great book for someone not familiar with Elements or any other Photoshop tool. Certainly better than "Dummies" which was complicated and failed to address the simple nuances of the program. Photoshop Elements 6 provides the user many different techniques to accomplish the same thing (whatever's easier for you). After completing it, I was able to advance to more complicated functions without using the book. Highly recommend it.

"If you breathe and have a pulse, you NEED this book."

-Cody Lundin

Cody Lundin, director of the Aboriginal Living Skills School in Prescott, Arizona, shares his own brand of wilderness wisdom in this highly anticipated new book on commonsense, modern survival skills for the backcountry, the backyard, or the highway. It is the ultimate book on how to stay alive-based on the principal of keeping the body's core temperature at a lively 98.6 degrees. In his entertaining and informative style, Cody stresses that a human can live without food for weeks, and without water for about three days or so. But if the body's core temperature dips much below or above the 98.6 degree mark, a person can literally die within hours. It is a concept that many don't take seriously or even consider, but knowing what to do to maintain a safe core temperature when lost in a blizzard or in the desert could save your life. Lundin delivers the message with wit, rebellious humor, and plenty of backcountry expertise.

Cody Lundin and his Aboriginal Living Skills School have been featured in dozens of national and international media sources, including Dateline NBC, CBS News, USA Today, The Donny and Marie Show, and CBC Radio One in Canada, as well as on the cover of Backpacker magazine. When not teaching for his own school, he is an adjunct faculty member at Yavapai College and a faculty member at the Ecosa Institute. Cody is the only person in Arizona licensed to catch fish with his hands, and lives in a passive solar earth home sixty miles from Prescott, Arizona.

Sound information 5 by .. Outside ()
This book and its approach to survival is not my bag, however Lundin does what he set out to do in writing it. Some have described this book as chauvinistic, brash and immature. Perhaps the art is offensive to some, but the information, the reason people actually buy the book, is solid. This is not a primitive technology book, nor a wilderness living manual. It is in short, a Survival Manual. If you want to create a survival kit for your car, cabin or whatever, Lundin leads you through it step by step. For the armchair survivalist that has no desire to actually practice tough skills, this book is for you. If you want to be a responsible back country trekker, this book is for you. If you want to be prepared to survive short term (72 hours give or take a few days) disasters like power outages, back country strandings, or just getting lost, then this book is the one to have. The well researched reasoning behind his ideas comes across clearly leaving no doubt as to the action to be taken to correct a given situation.
The best part of this book is by far the comprehensive survival kits and all their contents and the rationale for selecting the items he lists.
Well worth the money!

must read for day-hikers and hunters 5 by .. J. Galindo (Houston, TX USA)
I just finished reading this book and I have to say this is the best book that I've come across for short-term survival (i.e., the 72 hours or so until rescue). I've spent a lot of time growing up in the outdoors and I've always thought survivalist literature was a little nutty and that most "survival kits" were way off base for what the average person needed. Cody Lundin does and excellent job of telling the reader how to avoid the biggest outdoor killer for short term survival situations--EXPOSURE--and how to avoid having a survival kit full of useless crap. For example, I've always thought it was sensless to carry things like fishing hooks and snare wire in a survival kit when the average person can live for weeks without food. Food is not a priority during short-term survival. This book does not confuse self-sufficiency with survival and it just gives a lot of good information on some basic kit to have in case you ever do get lost or stuck in the woods longer than you intended.

In my opinion, anyone who is a dayhiker, hunter, or just likes to spend time in the outdoors should own a copy of this book.

Concepts To Live By 5 by .. C. C. Evans (Chicago, IL USA)
The ideas were well articulated in a consistent thread throughout 98.6 Degrees. It's funny, which keeps it from being condescending even to those who are experienced. The crass bits others refer to were really just cheesy, and there aren't many of them. If you only read one survival book in your life, this should be the one. It will help you think straight, prioritize well and, if you work at it, you may even be mistaken for a polyextremophile.

Great advice from an experienced survivalist! 5 by .. Randy Mercurio (Duxbury, VT USA)
A new approach to delivering the key ideas of survival and his recommended components for a survival kit with some humor. Short and sweet...this is a great book with another survivalists perspective on how to be prepared for that unexpected situation. I am not going to repeat all of the other 5 star reviewer comments but I will say that after reading many books on survival I have still managed to pull information from this book that was useful. For example, Cody suggests that you put brightly colored tape on survival objects so they are easy to spot if dropped...simple but brilliant. I rapidly modified my kits! I never knew how useful REAL parachute chord is until I read about it in this book. I bought 150' to slip into my kits! Oh! and the dental floss...I haven't use it for survival yet but experimented using it to sew a fiberglass screen around a wood dowel frame for drying plant parts for tea...worked nice! Your survival chances are only limited by your imagination...buy this book for some imaginative stimulation and learn some of Cody Lundin's techniques.

Great, to-the-point survival manual 4 by .. Rickster (Doral, FL USA)
Awesome purchase. This book's a keeper. It goes straight to the point and tells you what you need to know and do, if ever caught in a survival situation.

One downside of the book, in my opinion, is that it does not go into a lot of detail regarding survival situations in environments other than hot deserts and cold temperate areas. The survival kit components that are featured in the book attest to that fact.

But overall I love the book because it gives you knowledge you can begin to use immediately.

From beer to Coca-Cola, the six drinks that have helped shape human history
Throughout human history, certain drinks have done much more than just quench thirst. As Tom Standage relates with authority and charm, six of them have had a surprisingly pervasive influence on the course of history, becoming the defining drink during a pivotal historical period.

A History of the World in 6 Glasses tells the story of humanity from the Stone Age to the 21st century through the lens of beer, wine, spirits, coffee, tea, and cola. Beer was first made in the Fertile Crescent and by 3000 B.C.E. was so important to Mesopotamia and Egypt that it was used to pay wages. In ancient Greece wine became the main export of her vast seaborne trade, helping spread Greek culture abroad. Spirits such as brandy and rum fueled the Age of Exploration, fortifying seamen on long voyages and oiling the pernicious slave trade. Although coffee originated in the Arab world, it stoked revolutionary thought in Europe during the Age of Reason, when coffeehouses became centers of intellectual exchange. And hundreds of years after the Chinese began drinking tea, it became especially popular in Britain, with far-reaching effects on British foreign policy. Finally, though carbonated drinks were invented in 18th-century Europe they became a 20th-century phenomenon, and Coca-Cola in particular is the leading symbol of globalization.

For Tom Standage, each drink is a kind of technology, a catalyst for advancing culture by which he demonstrates the intricate interplay of different civilizations. You may never look at your favorite drink the same way again.

AP World History Review: A New Perspective on History 4 by .. ()
After reading A History of the World in 6 Glasses, an approving review is necessary. Tom Standage does an excellent job teaching his audience the entire history of the world as we know it in an engaging fashion. Standage knows his facts and organizes them well under the 6 beverages of history. He divides the history through the perspective of "drink empires"- the civilizations that centered their culture on the drink of that era- beer, wine, spirits, coffee, tea, and Coca- Cola. Standage not only talks about how a drink was originally made, but about the reactions of the people and the culture that followed, as well as the impact that specific culture on other regions. His book is enjoyable and puts a new and interesting way of seeing history on to the table.

A History of the World in 6 Glasses is suitable for anyone who is in need of an enlightening version of world history. It is a well written and entertaining book that commemorates different societies who developed according to the beverage they drank. This read is a smart way to learn more things about ancient, classical, and modern history- more than politics and war, but culture as it depended on common drinks. Tom Standage's work is definitely worth checking out.

World History Through a Few Beverages 5 by .. Gregg Eldred (Avon Lake, OH USA)

Appendix

In A History of the World in Six Glasses, Tom Standage traces world history using six beverages; beer, wine, spirits, coffee, tea, and cola. The Epilogue adds one more to the list: Water. With each drink, Standage explains why and how it came to be, what was happening regionally or globally, and how the drink influenced civilization. Wine is a good example. Early in its development, it was only available in very specific regions. As such, key wine making areas were favorites of kings and sometimes the focus of wars or territory disputes. Finally, to see the vine make its way around the known world is a fascinating trip. Another fact shared by most of the beverages; in the days of cholera and other water born illnesses, drinking beer, wine, coffee, or tea were a good way to remain alive.

You have to commend Standage for this book: it is one of the most unique views of world history. Whether your favorite drink is beer, wine, rum, or water, you are presented with the history of the drink and an excellent tour of the past. In addition, you should go away with an appreciation for all of the beverages as well as an excellent understanding of how these drinks influenced world politics (some of which are still with us). Because Standage uses familiar beverages, you can't help but be drawn into the history of the world. Some chapters are more interesting than others, primarily because your favorite drink isn't central to the chapter. But regardless, you learn something about a particular time in history, using a cup of coffee, a pint of beer, or shot of whiskey. Another benefit of this book - you will have plenty of anecdotes to tell your friends over a beer, a cup of coffee, or a Coke. As an example, look at whiskey. The original phrase for distilled spirits was aqua vitae, or "water of life." The Gaelic for aqua vitae is uisge beatha, which is the origin of the word whiskey. You may think that you are simply having a drink, but you are really consuming history.

This is a fun, informative book and highly recommended.

Received the book in a timely manner; it was in awesome condition. Fair price.

Not for Beginners 1 by .. M. Castle ()
There is no logical organization to this book. The authors skip back forth, use terms that they say they will define later and assume a much higher level of understanding than a beginner will have. Nowhere in this book could I find a step-by-step description that would allow a beginner to sit at his or her computer and arrive at the point proclaimed by the authors.

Given that PE6 opens with a Tools Menu on the left side, it would have been logical to describe these early on rather than the hodgepodge scattered throughout the book. The chapter on working with layers is close to useless. The authors should have started with a simple example of how layers work and gradually added more complex processes.

I cannot recommend this book to anyone, especially beginners.

Note: PC Only 2 by .. J. Leveen (Bristol, ME)
I'm sure this is a good book. I opened it up, and there on the first page, it says that PSE6 is only available for PC, not Mac OS X. I noticed that nowhere in the item description does it say this (except for one review waaay back that I didn't get to). So, here I am with a book for PC's as I stare at Photoshop Elements 6 here on my iMac. I just ordered the missing manual. So - if you're a Mac person, this isn't for you.

Easy to follow directions 5 by .. J. Austin (Portland OR)
I have found this very easy to follow and learned much about using my Photoshop program. Well worth having to answer questions and help you make better use of your program.

Love my Dummies Books 5 by .. D. Gore ()
When ever I am in doubt about learning something new the first thing I look for is a "Dummies" book. The Photoshop Elements 6 Dummies book came through just like all the rest. I use it any time I need to find out how to do something quickly. Even though I take an on line class in how to use Photoshop 6, I keep my "Dummies" book beside my computer. When all else fails I can get the explanation I need from that book. Great Book!!!!

A must for all libraries 5 by .. Anne G. Jones ()
A.A.Milne's "Now We are Six" is a must for all chldren. Read it over and over, and son the child will learn favorite poems and can look at the words and read along. It is good that children learn the Real Pool characters rather than Disney's idea.

Now We are Six by A.A. Milne 5 by .. Welta Scruggs (El Paso, TX, USA)
A book of poems and selections based on characters and events in "Winnie-The-Pooh by the same author. I like to give it to my young friends on their 6th birthday. A good book to be read to the child; a book to appreciate more as the child can read it for him or herself.

Classic poetry: Now We Are Six 3 by .. Sallie Light (Naples, FL USA)
Beautiful edition of a classic. Most of the poems are great, some not so great.

Wonderful Classic! 5 by .. A. B. McMaster (California, USA)
We have the complete works of Milne. My 5 year old son and I absolutely LOVE Pooh collections. We enjoy our special time together reading Now We Are Six...and this book is not just to be enjoyed by a child...but for all of us who are still kids at heart and enjoy real literature of substance. Silly, heartwarming, fun and clever are just a few words I would use to describe this book! Disney's version of Pooh (books, movies, cartoons) is far inferior!

And as I sign off, I will leave you with one of my favorite poems from this book. Found on page 1 in my handed lovingly down 1950 edition. And after reading the poem, I ask you...who doesn't still feel like this from time to time? 6 or 106...this is a timeless classic!

Solitude

I have a house where I go
When there's too many people,
I have a house where I go
Where no one can be;
I have a house where I go
Where nobody ever says "no";
Where no one says anything-so
There is no one but me.

6+1 Traits of Writing: Very Helpful 4 by .. V. Robinson ()
This book is very useful for any teacher, elementary or high school, who wants to help students improve their writing abilities. It includes a very detailed explanation of the traits, student samples, lesson ideas, and student handouts. It even teaches the teacher how to accurately grade students' papers. This is an excellent tool for any teacher, especially English teachers!

Valuable Structure for Assessing Writing 4 by .. Kevin A. Freeman (MA)
English teachers have it tough -- no matter how hard they try, they cannot avoid a degree of subjectivity when it comes to grading papers. This book, 6+1 TRAITS OF WRITING, will not make the process a totally objective one, but it will provide a definite structure that will be invaluable to both new and experienced teachers alike. In workmanlike fashion, Ruth Culham devotes chapters to the traits (ideas, word choice, sentence fluency, voice, organization, and conventions) PLUS one (presentation) with a series of indicators for teachers to assess each one.

It's a great primer in the technique, and the chapters all follow a similar pattern with definitions of the traits, a list of reasons on why students struggle with that trait, steps on how to assess the trait, and sample papers to practice assessing using the 6 + 1 method. Each sample paper is followed by the scores the author gave it, along with their reasoning. Finally, the chapters are nicely rounded out with a series of practical ideas on how you can TEACH each trait. Teachers trying to get a handle on grading papers will appreciate the practicality and the structure.

The caveats I have with the book are minor. First, the sample papers range from Grades 3 to 9, and it's often difficult to assess sample papers because elementary teachers may not know how far along a secondary student should be and secondary teachers may have no clue about what's expected from third-grade writers. The wide range in ages, in other words, creates a bit of extra confusion for teachers who are well-versed in their own age-group of students. Also, the extra batch of "practice papers" to assess at the back of the book are directly followed by the author's scores, meaning the papers and their scores often share the same page. It would have been more helpful to separate them so as to avoid accidentally seeing a score while trying to finish the paper.

Culham's book is a great start, but a lot more practice assessing will probably be necessary to successfully implement the program. Also, I found that I had many questions about judgment calls while assessing some of the indicators and, in a workshop type setting, could have used further explanation from an experienced hand. Alas, the book cannot provide anything like that, but still, it's a start -- and a good one. Recommended.

6 + 1 Traits of Writing: The Complete Guide (Grades 3 and Up) 5 by .. Betty E. Hartley (Topsham, Maine)
As a classroom teacher and workshop leader, I have found this book very useful. It includes sample student papers that can be used by teachers and students to hone their assessment skills. The ideas for teaching each of the traits are concrete ones that students enjoy. When I've read forty papers and have run out of new responses to give my students, there are even lists of responses for me to use. I recommend this book to both new and experienced teachers of writing.

Great resource! 4 by .. J. Andrews (West Palm Beach, FL United States)
I originally had to buy this book for a graduate level pedagogy course. I ended up using this book constantly to help teach 4th graders how to write. Ruth Culham explains each trait well and includes a handful of awesome lesson plan ideas for students to practice the trait. I'd recommend it as a resource for any writing teacher (Grades 3-12).

Great ideas for assessing writing 5 by .. Rainsayre (Upstate New York)
I really enjoyed reading this book and I am excited about starting to use this method when school starts again. Teaching writing can be difficult, but how to give constructive feedback is even harder. I am optimistic that the ideas in this book will make it a whole lot easier to help my children.

well worth the money 5 by .. Daniel Mackler (www.iraresoul.com)
This book helped me make a completed, feature-length documentary!

THANK YOU DIANA WEYNAND!!

I had all the footage shot for a movie, but no idea how to use Final Cut Pro to edit it. I was a complete novice. Learning Final Cut Pro was a terrifying prospect, so I did a little research, bought this book, and humbled myself enough to follow its simple directions - DVD tutorial and all. And you know what? It worked. I'm not perfect at Final Cut Pro, but I sure learned enough to make a movie!

Hurrah!

Why couldn't all of life be so easy? (And cheap...)

great 5 by .. Jean-philippe Stuart (Beverly Hills)
Great book. Easy. I take "one-on-One" classes at the Apple store and still, I learned a lot of tricks with this book. One lesson a day and doing the exercises on the computer following the book directions. Easy. A good brush of my knowledge to harden the foundations. I will start the 2nd book soon - 2nd level. And then the 3 books on Motion3. Thank you

Comprehensive and accessible 4 by .. Happy Mac User (Duncanville, Texas)
As first tutorials go, what I like about this book is that you can start from scratch and learn most all of the details you need to become a certified user of Final Cut Pro. One of the best features about this book, is that it includes a DVD containing footage applicable to every lesson. This means, that you can not only follow the tutorial step-by-step with the examples in the book, but you have some really nice imagery to work with -- and you don't have to go out and shoot a lot of stuff yourself just to get started. The documentation included with the software might be even more comprehensive, but just lifting it is pretty intimidating -- so I didn't even want to think about slogging through it piece by piece.

Final Cut Pro 6 5 by .. Tyler R. Dexter (Portland area, Or)
Hey, very good stuff. However, I got it for a class then we changed our text books. So, I have not actually used it but it appears to be very useful.
