Decent strategy guide for a huge game. 4 by .. managerjohn (Madison, WI USA)
This strategy guide is huge! Probably one of the thickest game guides I've ever seen. But then again, Fallout 3 is a very big game. Everything you need is in this guide.

That being said though, I wish that it was organized a little better or had an index for finding things faster. The pullout poster map is nice, but again the legend is confusing and takes a while to find what you're looking for with a "zone" system. I wish there were a smaller version in the book, because I don't always feel like getting out that big foldout map.

It is written very well and the author's comical side notes are entertaining. The presentation is nice. Overall a decent guide to help you through the Wasteland of post-apocalypse Washington D.C.

If it had an index, I'd give this a 5+++++ stars!!!! 4 by .. Peter Feige (Charlotte, NC United States)
Well written, great diagrams, leaves nothing out, however, I wish this guide had an index. Other than having to thumb through 500+ pages to find the help you are looking for, this guide is MANDATORY if you play Fallout 3.

Lots of Info I found useful 5 by .. T. Gerace ()
I have been using this guide while playing through Fallout 3.

The pullout map inside is excellent if you want to just find the main areas or, like me, love to search the little nooks and crannies.

It has a section for the main quest walkthrough, side quests, and even each "grid" of the map broken down into areas, each area broken down into the places you can see and what is there.

Also, a comprehensive section on what each S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stat is for and the different Perks. This I found excellent so I could plan my character and not waste anything.

And way in the back? Where you can find things such as secrets!

I would definately recommend this guide to anyone wishing to get all they can out of Fallout 3.

Good Guide 4 by .. Matthew D. Walker (Whittier, CA United States)
It's a pretty good strategy guide, but the images are too small in some instances, and in some cases it doesn't tell you where in a room to find things for which you are looking. If you can get past that, I'd say pick it up. I NEVER would have found all the bobbleheads without it.

This is the OFFICIAL ENCYCLOPEDIA, GRADE REFERENCE MANUAL for FALLOUT3 WASTELAND! (explained) 5 by .. forrie lowell ()
Welcome to another indepth Bethesda Softworks OFFICIAL GAME GUIDE adventure. Outstanding reference and heavily detailed explanation of the designers minds in their four year journey in the development of FALLOUT 3.

I have been a follower since MORROWIND and I must say these games get better each and every time. I must admit this guide like the game is loaded with every possible detail regarding the world of Fallout 3.

Qualifying Statement: I've played the game since October 18th and I finished the main Quest today (November 22nd) what a ride!!!! So after 128 game hours, over 500 saves, maximum level of 20 / 435 hit points / 106 action Points, with a HIGH KARMA of Very Good / The last best hope of Humanity. Completing a total of 23 side quests, discovering over 160 locations (and explored them all). Attaining a S.P.E.C.I.A.L. rating of 8+, 7+, 7, 5, 6, 8, and 6 respectively out of 6 tops, out of a max of 100 my targrted skills of LOCKPICKING, SNEAK and SMALL GUNS was 100, Medicine 86, Repair 87 and SCIENCE 76. SO WHAT DOES ALL THIS MEAN??????

NOTE: Your character goes from birth to this quest outside VAULT 101 with every detail of every action / decision you make during these quests is recorded and your "KARMA" is constantly adjusted on everything you do. Never is your KARMA ignored. The details and variables of this game are "SIMPLY AMAZING".

So the bottomline to this unbelievable journey and your fate (the open ended game play and the multiple ending) is all formulated. Believe me when the finale is played out for your efforts it is so personalized and gratifying that you sit their in awe. NOTE: Save the game often to replay those outstanding moments of victory!!!!

NOW my EXPLANATION of this GUIDE; This manual is designed to use as that a guide to answer specific questions. But I must admit it is clear only after you invest the time into "THE GAME". The details are very precise and cryptic if you are trying to use this as a WALK-THRU guide a quick reference to get it done the answers are ALL there but like life you must be prepared for the quest and the savage environment of the WASTELAND.

This Manual also has a great two sided map; THE CAPITAL WASTELAND a gridded map 24 x 36" with ALL points of interest with map legend & locations. On the reverse side a "DC METRO INTERIOR" divided by ZONES and Zone Links with map legend and Metro Locations. Awesome reference. This will be posted and used for constant input s to your planned quests. I love this Guide and all its details.

I was totally pleased to read this guide to see how much my focused game play all made sense in the end. This guide is a must have if only to help you enter this complex world of FALLOUT 3!!! This guide will give you a written reference to all aspects, characters, sanctions, monsters, DC Metro versus the Wasteland quests, character gender, development, skills (GOOD/BAD KARMA), weapons, V.A.T.S., PIP-BOY, Quests, BOBBLE-HEADS, and soooo much more a new kind of GAME OF LIFE!!! ENJOY!!!

P.S - I almost forgot the PERKS these are some of the MUST HAVE SKILLS in FALLOUT 3. EXPLORER - Allows every location to be revealed on your PIP-BOY (you must still find/visit it first before FAST TRAVEL is allowed). SILENT RUNNING - +10 on SNEAK. THIEF - +5 on SNEAK and LOCKPICK. LEAD BELLY - minus 50% radiation poisoning from irraddiated water. ADAMANTIUM SKELETON - minus 50% skeleton damage (from attacks). And finally ACTION BOY - +25 Action Points using V.A.T.S. These are some of my favorite skill choices awarded at higher Levels.

A Great Read! 5 by .. Linn (New York, NY USA)
I absolutely love the Twilight Saga! I know this book was done with tweens in mind, but I'm way past my tweens and got sucked right into the series. It has been a page turner since the moment I picked it up. I read all 4 books within 2 months! I held onto to Book 4 - Breaking Dawn for as long as I could. I didn't want it to end. ;-)

Great story and characters, okay writer 4 by .. J. Myung (Harrington Park,NJ)
Her book...the story/plot and character build up keeps getting better than the book before...I just got annoyed with her writing...not that deep or "educated"...not your Thomas Mann but good enough that I'll pass along to my daughters when they come of age. The story is clean - perfect for young pre-teens/early teens.

Fantastic! 5 by .. Linda L. Nafus (Pioneer CA)
I couldn't wait to start this next book in the series and certainly wasn't disappointed. The books just keep getting better and more interesting. This one just like the last two are page turners. I was hooked on the first one and just can't get enough.

Product Description

The astonishing, uplifting story of a real-life Indiana Jones and his humanitarian campaign to use education to combat terrorism in the Taliban’s backyard

Anyone who despairs of the individual’s power to change lives has to read the story of Greg Mortenson, a homeless mountaineer who, following a 1993 climb of Pakistan’s treacherous K2, was inspired by a chance encounter with impoverished mountain villagers and promised to build them a school. Over the next decade he built fifty-five schools—especially for girls—that offer a balanced education in one of the most isolated and dangerous regions on earth. As it chronicles Mortenson’s quest, which has brought him into conflict with both enraged Islamists and uncomprehending Americans, Three Cups of Tea combines adventure with a celebration of the humanitarian spirit.

Excellent book, but Leaving Microsoft to Change the World is even better 4 by .. Expat in Japan (Tokyo, Japan)
Everyone should read this book - its a life changer. However, even better, but for some reason being overlooked by the world, is "Leaving Microsoft to Change the World" by John Woods. I don't understand why 3 Cups is being promoted by booksellers and is being given such high profile, where John Wood's book is not. John Wood went on to create the organization Room to Read which has a much broader goal, to build schools and libraries in developing countries around the world, not just one country. His book is a better read from start to end. I found that 3 Cups got bogged down with the details of the local politics. My suggestion; read both, but if you only have time for one life changing book, than choose the John Wood book!

Three cups of tea 5 by .. Phillip Norris (Topeka, Kansas and Nadi, Fiji)
I think this book was amazing. "Dr. Greg" spoke at my university which was amazing in and of itself, then after reading this book I have to say he is one of my heroes. The book is well written and gives insight into the many dilemmas facing the US in Afghanistan today while also providing an inspiring story of one man's mission to change the world and do what most believe is utterly impossible. Fantastic Book!!!

Nice enough story, but poorly written 3 by .. J.W. Haus (California)
I bought this book because I was looking for something inspirational, and while it is a nice story, it is so poorly written I find it hard to recommend. It would have been interesting to see what an established writer like Jon Krakauer (Into Thin Air) would have done with it.

MY NEW LIFE BOOK 4 by .. ENERGIZED (ROGERS AR USA)
THIS STORY OF GREG'S TENACIOUS VICTORY WILL REMAIN A LIFE BOOK i WANT TO SHARE WITH OTHERS. IT HAS GIVEN ME INSIGHT INTO A DISTANT REGION. A TIME LINE, GLOSSARY AND EVEN A LIST OF CHARACTERS WOULD HAVE BEEN EVEN BETTER.THANK YOU FOR TAKING THE TIME TO SHARE THIS EXPERIENCE WITH THE WESTERN WORLD.

a little humanity 5 by .. Leigh M. Gage (lived in France 18 years)
In this egomaniac, me age, it is refreshing to read about someone who thinks about helping others. Recommend this book to those who are xenophobic and who are afraid to travel outside the well trodden luxury hotel path.

Saved My Sanity! 5 by .. Evelyn Doherty (Hattiesburg, Mississippi United States)
I learned of this book the hard way, a child psychologist recommended it when my the 6-year-old son was in danger of being thrown out of school. I dreaded taking him into stores and I had to sit in the "crying" room of my church, because he would not behave. My son has Aspergers, and some of his behavior had to do with that, mostly it had to do with me.

I read the book, and the principles in it take a little time to absorb. The main premise (and I'm paraphrasing, in my own words): 1) Give a warning. 2) Give a consequence 3) Take action. Idol threats don't work, you have to follow through. I had to take my crying son out of stores a few times, but it started working. I didn't take long before I really started to notice a difference. Today, 6 years later, he is very well behaved.

You have to have a little patience, but this does work. I also recommend Boundaries for Kids.

If your kids act like wild animals, this is the book for you! 5 by .. Boca Doc (Boca Raton, FL)
If you are tired of hearing your kids pitch a fit for no good reason for the umpteenth time and you're at your wits end, this is the book you've been waiting for. Let's face it; kids can be like wild animals. But even lions can be tamed with the right approach. And 1-2-3 Magic provides simple techniques that really work for transforming your 'jungle' back into a peaceful home. As a psychologist who works with parents-and as a parent and grandparent myself-I have used and have recommended the simple and effective techniques described in 1-2-3 Magic many times and have been amazed at how quickly they work. But you sure don't have to be a PH.D. to understand this book. It is short, simple and to the point--and it makes for great bathroom reading! Whether its temper tantrums, sibling rivalry or other common 'challenges' that kids test us with, this book provides short, simple ways to control kids' behavior without losing control of your own! Using this approach: (1)kids become much better behaved; (2)parents remember why they wanted kids in the first place, and (3)parents and kids really begin to enjoy each other again! I also highly recommended the 1-2-3 Magic DVD, which is actually very funny and entertaining and a great way to see this program in action. Good luck!

Dr. Reed

Magic! 5 by .. Heather D. Pyles (Dayton, OH)
This book has been a life saver for me and my family. Since reading this book, I have better control over both my 4 yr old son and 11 yr old son. We don't have arguments or fussing or fighting anymore! I think this book is a must have for ALL parents, even if they don't think they have discipline problems! Enjoy!

It Works! 5 by .. Shannon (Texas)
I received a copy of this book from a friend when I reached my wits with my 3 year old. We were fighting over every single thing, and it was straining my relationship with her to the core.

I must say I don't use the discipline technique exactly, but have found all of the principals and ideas so enlightening. I can see using it more completely when my child is a bit older, and it is nice that I know how to do it. I recommend this book to anyone I can because it has has given me a parenting style that works and improved my relationship with my child 100%.

This advice works and the kids come out better for it. 5 by .. Mars Trader ()
We tried many approaches with our children involving treating them as little adults such as the STEP program and had nothing but trouble. We didn't find this book until our children were approaching teen ages but the advice was still excellent and transformed our relationships. This author, years ago put in writing simple techniques that allow you to set rules, to create a situation where the children learn boundaries even before they fully understand the need for rules, and everyone in the family, large and small, can get through situations without unnecessary stress or embarrassment. Everything you see on TV with the nanny shows is the embodiment of these simple principles.

Not bad, could be way better. 4 by .. Brendan Hansen (California, USA)
This is a pretty nice thing to have if you're a big Fallout fan or can find it somewhere for less than $30, it has all of the same info as the $25 standard guide plus a nice hardcover, some art in the back and an extra large poster map of the Wasteland.

I can understand the difficulty involved in writing a guide for such a massive and mostly non-linear game, and most or all of the info you will ever want is in this guide... somewhere. That's the only problem with the guide, if you have a question and need to look something up, good luck. It could be in a number of different places, and with no index, you'll find yourself going to the Table of Contents and guessing at different places to look. The organization of the book seemed strange to me at first, but the more I thought about it, it's probably the best way to do it considering the size of the game. It starts off with an in-depth look at the SPECIAL system and the different skills and perks, then follows up with some general tips for playing the game. Next up is the Bestiary, listing the different factions and enemies you will encounter, followed by a walkthrough for the main quest. Next up are walkthroughs for each of the many side quests, with explainations for all of the different branching points you may encounter in each. Following that is the Tour section, which exhaustively lists every location, item and person that you can find in the game. This section is probably where you will spend most of your time when you have questions while exploring, and it could really use an index. Next is a quick description of the different endings and how they are achieved, then some appendices which are actually quite useful, and finally an extras section which is mostly artwork with comments on how they made the game.
Overall, I'm happy with my purchase, having ordered from Amazon for $23.09.
I used the guide very little on my first way through the game, only checking it if I got stuck or had a specific question about consequences of certain choices, but I'm looking forward to starting a new game and using the guide extensively(this time I'm going to be a very bad character...)

A beautiful guide 5 by .. Mike (Moses Lake, WA)
Not only is this guide aesthetically pleasing, it's also very helpful. Whether you're trying to be a good guy, or evil SOB... you'll get exactly what you want from this guide.

The Wasteland Survival Guide 5 by .. Thomas E. Hong (Lawndale, CA)
I ordered this guide off Amazon and I have to say that Prima did an excellent job. It has info for all of the main quests and all of the side quests. One part of the guide that may be a bit difficult to navigate is the Tour of the Wasteland section where it lists every possible locale you can visit including info even on the freeform quests. It's very, very exhaustive.

The book itself is very well made The paper is not glossy. I can't really describe the feel of it. It's rougher than normal paper. It almost reminds me of the spelling paper I used in elementary school. I really like the paper. The guide is definitely built to last. The binding is very secure.

I foundd myself reading through it here and there even if I wasn't necessarily using it as a 'guide.' This is one of the more well made guides out there.

A very comprehensive companion to the game 5 by .. Kevn (Salt Lake City)
This is most likely the mostly in-depth and comprehensive strategy guide I have used (I only use them for RPGs). The authors did a most excellent job. It can even be daunting at first, as opening it up to any random page and viewing it's contents is like doing the same with a textbook, so much information. But once you learn how the book's laid out, it's not as overwhelming. The amount of valuable info held within is definitely worth the money, especially at Amazon's price. (I honestly don't know what the collector's edition provides other than it's nicer hardcover. I researched it before buying it, and that may be the only benefit.)

Huge, just like the game. 4 by .. G. D. LEHR (Portland, Oregon)
This is a comprehensive guide and very expansive. It shows you every single thing to earn, kill, complete, and find in the game. And for those who havent played the game yet, thats well over 120 hours worth of play time if you want to try and complete everything in the game in one playthrough.

However, ive had to bookmark sections to flip back and forth between because in reality you could get a headache because of the mass amount of things to do, and if you dont do them right you'll miss out on things. I honestly have gotten a headache or two because there really is so much to do. Make sure you read ahead in things before you atempt to head out in the wasteland or do new things. You will find many times that while doing one quest you must complete another in order to make the one you wanted to do originally have better rewards, or get more quests and people etc.

I think the only downfall of this guide is that things arent laid out in an exactly orderly fashion quest wise. You will have to have sections bookmarked to flip between them (as I stated above)

A word of advice to the new player: Create many saves, because you might get a glitch (which happens a bit too often) or do something to ruin the Autosave you just passed through. Save before you complete a quest, or speak to a new person, or take a new path...because that could exclude certain new objectives and items if you do them wrongly or say the wrong thing in speaking.

excellent service, excellent book 5 by .. O. O. esan (new york)
very good service. seller communicated immediately and book was delivered a week later in brand new condition. thanks

overated and not updated as it claims 2 by .. kenneth (CO)
I have been studying for the USMLE step 3 since Last May, I have bought a number of review books from nail the board to the recall as well as first aid step 3.

I have nearly completed the USMLEWORLD qbank and been doing kaplan Qbank and at this point, I was tempted to take a look at the so called "throughly updated", Crush step 3, which is false and misleading. They simply changed the coloring and layout of the same book and added a few tables for vaccinations and RA meds!

Its not really updated but they added such as "smoking is the number one modifiable cause of death" instead of older version, which was preventable...

there are many outdated informations and simply incorrect informations but they did not bother to correct it but still claims to be "throughly updated".

PCOS or PCOD, it does not mention the weight loss as one of the first line RX (OCP) and it fails to mention one important modality, which is metformine beside clomiphene if pt desires pregnancy.

And when it comes to viral hepatitis, It fails to mentions the significance of having concurrent hepatitis D with Hep B, means it accelerates the hepatitis B with more aggressive progression. A third year med student knows that hep D is a dependent on Hep B as it mentions. It is same information as Crush step 2.

For Mallory-Weiss tears, it also fails to mention one critical concept that it often self limited and stops bleeding its own but the author says that sclerose any bleeding vessel, of course a third year surgery rotation student knows that if bleeding vessele, it has to be scloerosed!

For Esophageal CA, the author says that adenocarcinoma is now more common than Squamous cell CA, which is incorrect! There is equal incidence of both types of Esophageal CA in the US, and in the worldwide, 90% of the esophageal CA is the Squamous Cell CA. Adenocarcinoma of esophagus is most prevalent in whites and it rarely seen in blacks in the US.

For pseudotumor Cerebri, it says the treatment is "supportive" and weight loss helps, it not repeat LP or shunt. This is incorrect and misleading to say "supportive" when there is serious threat of blindness if the IOP is not lowered by Diuretics acutely and yes, by shunt.

For infant botulism/botulism, the author says the child may need to be intubated and spontaneous recovery so on....but it fails to even mention of monovalent human derived antitoxin treatment for the infantile botulism. The most updated information says that all patients receive antitoxin immune serum to prevent progression and shorten the duration.

For G6PD deficiency, the author says that treat by avoiding precipitating food and medications but this is also expected that a second year med student knows it to stop the precipiationg drugs! it should have mention that treatment also include IV hydration for acute episode and folic acid supplementation as some authors even says lifetime supplements of folic acid for all G6PD deficiency pts.

I found first aid is "better" and more accurate than this longtime overrated book, Yet it is true that there is no such thing as a perfect board review book.

I have been reading "page in a medicine book" series and I found this is surprisingly well written, evidence based and updated..

"How to build a more just world and save the planet....We should all heed Brown's advice."—Bill Clinton

In this updated edition of the landmark Plan B, Lester Brown outlines a survival strategy for our early twenty-first-century civilization. The world faces many environmental trends of disruption and decline, including rising temperatures and spreading water shortage. In addition to these looming threats, we face the peaking of oil, annual population growth of 70 million, a widening global economic divide, and a growing list of failing states. The scale and complexity of issues facing our fast-forward world have no precedent

With Plan A, business as usual, we have neglected these issues overly long. In Plan B 3.0, Lester R. Brown warns that the only effective response now is a World War II-type mobilization like that in the United States after the attack on Pearl Harbor.

An Excellent, Comprehensive Analysis... 3 by .. D. Benor ()
Lester R. Brown presents an excellent, comprehensive analysis and discussion of the major ecological and social challenges threatening humanity with the possibility of extinction. These include problems with oil and food supplies; climate change and rising sea levels; water shortages; depletion of natural resources; and warnings about possible tipping points in failing social and economic systems. The most concerning factor is global heating, which could reach a tipping point beyond which it would be impossible to reverse the melting of glaciers and the destruction of life as we know it on our planet.

He proposes numerous solutions for our most serious and urgent challenge, climate change, often measured in the numbers of coal-powered electricity generating facilities that could be eliminated. This is vital to climate control because emissions of carbon dioxide from coal burning facilities is the most serious contributor to global warming on the one hand, and one of the most readily replaceable factor on the other hand.

...in plan B we propose to cut net carbon dioxide emissions 80 perent by 2020. our goal is to prevent the atmospheric Co2 concentration from exceeding 400 ppm, thus limiting the future rise in temperature.

This is an extraordinarily ambitious undertanking. It means, for example, phasing out all coal-fired power plants by 2020 while greatly reducing the sue of oil. This is not a simple matter.

We can, however, make this shift using currently available technologies. The three components of this carbon-cutting effort are halting deforestation while planting trees to sequester carbon, ... raising energy efficiency worldwide, ... and harnessing the earth's renewable sources of energy... Plan B calls for using the most energy-efficient technologies available for lighting, for heating and cooling buildings, and for transportation. It calls for an ambitious exploitation of the earth's solar, wind, and geotheramal energy sources. It means, for example, a wholesale shift to plug-in hybrid cars, running them largely on wind-generated electricity. (p. 67)

The challenges that are threatening to overwhelm the capacities of various countries to deal with the pressing problems of their populations are not being addressed in anything resembling serious or concerted efforts by the wealthier nations. Brown points out that relatively modest investments in enhanced education (sums far smaller than are being spent on arms and military engagements) are key to stabilizing social and political crises around the world. These are potential human time bombs that could escalate into global problems of population migrations which would threaten other nations. With basic education it is possible to achieve birth control, reductions in population growth and reducing the spread of AIDS are achievable goals.

Plan be is shaped by what is needed to save civilization, not by what may currently be considered politically feasible. Plan B does not fit within a particular discipline, sector, or set of assumptions.

Implementing Plan B means undertaking several actions simultaneously, including eradicating poverty, stabilizing population, and restoring the earth's natural systems. (p. 20)

This book is a must read for anyone seriously interested in understanding the global crises that threaten the continuation of life as we know it on our planet, and wanting to contribute to preventing this disaster.

If you are not contributing to the solution, you are a part of the problem. -Anonymous

Deeply Insightful but Very Readable 5 by .. Alan Lekan (Boulder, CO)
This is one of the finest books to summarize in layman's terms both the problems and solutions to our unsustainable, industrialized economy. What distinguishes Lester Brown form other authors on the topic of sustainability is the ease of readability of his books. That definitely cannot be said about other, overly laborious works that mostly appeal to policy makers or academia.

Version 3.0 (2007) here expands where Plan B 2.0 left off and what Eco Economy started in 2001. There is much valuable news and trends in 3.0 not in 2.0 as this is an extremely fast moving topic which needs updating every year. (I've had Harvard profs tell me they need to completely revamp their sustainability lectures each year to keep up with the latest happenings).

Positives: very clear, readable writing style ... a keen ability to "connect the dots" of the many issues of a unsustainable society ... depth and insight ... loaded but not overloaded with useful eco-factoids ... and ability to balance bad news/good news and not be either wholly focused on total eco-gloom disaster scenarios or a total pie-in-the-sky-kind-of-a-guy. His balance is superb and his recommendations believable.

Negatives: not many but some charts and graphs to break up the text would have enhanced the points and visual interest. Also, the 100+ pages of reference notes could have been indexed on the website to save some trees and shipping weight (as only researchers need this for most part).

Other good recent books include "Earth: The Sequel" by Fred Krupp (super detailed accounts about the latest eco-solution technologies poised to change the world) ... and "Peak Everything" by Richard Heinberg (how the collision course of severe resource constraints and industrialization impacts will wreak havoc on society and how new thinking is required to dig out of this mess).

Saving Civilization Won't Be This Easy 5 by .. Richard H. Burkhart (Seattle, WA USA)
Lester Brown gives us a solid plan to save civilization from the ravages of Peak Oil and Global Warming. But at $190 billion a year, it just sounds too easy.

In fact Peak Oil is now becoming Peak Everything (the title of Richard Heinberg's latest book), driving huge price increases in many key commodities. This means that the actual cost is likely to become twice Brown's estimate or more, the longer we delay, the higher the price. To keep costs down will take a global mobilization, with many agreements like the proposed Oil Depletion Protocol (subject of another Heinberg book) and massive rationing or taxation of non-essential consumption.

One way or another global economic decline is in the offing. This is a scary issue, especially for politicians, but it needs to be faced. This is because there is a huge difference in how this decline occurs. Business-as-usual decline (Plan A) will lead to collapse, possibly by mid-century. Decline imposed through mobilization (Plan B) will lead to survival, though with far less of many of today's luxuries.

Here's how decline will hit home, even with mobilization. Brown, along with the Apollo Alliance and many others, are now talking about a new economy of "green collar" jobs, with re-localization of much outsourced productive activity. What they don't tell you is that most of these jobs will pay far less in real purchasing power than most white and blue collar jobs in today's top industries.

But good people will take these Walmart-pay type jobs anyway because of layoffs that will skyrocket in the coming decades. That is, today's wealth is based primarily on cheap energy, so with many more people competing there will a lot less wealth to go around as we head down the Peak. Much of Plan B amounts to learning how to live with less. Many of those who've looked carefully at the numbers don't see the resources to build and maintain the renewable energy we'd need to replace all of today's fossil fuels.

This brings up the population issue. Brown says that we must stabilize at eight billion people. But will we really have the resources for 8 billion people to live sustainably and with at least basic middle class amenities (decent food, clothing, housing, health care, education, transportation, ...)? Some people are now saying that we need to think two billion or less.

Radical population reduction seems impossible without invoking the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. But it's actually very simple in concept: Women have only one child, on the average, and that child is born in the woman's mid thirties, again on the average. Mathematically this will reduce the population by a factor of 4 in 80 to 100 years. Sure, this would take a global cultural mobilization, but it is possible. As Brown points out, Iran cut its population growth rate in half in less than a decade, and Thailand did too. Perhaps we need Al Gore to show the world the kind of Apocalypse that happens when an exploding population uses up all its resources.

exhaustive and detail oriented 3 by .. Michael D. Acheson (Silicon Valley, CA)
This is a difficult book to get wrapped around. Which is good news, and then again it is bad news.

The good news is that this is an excellent and wide-sweeping run-up to the current health of our Earth.

Such topics as Our Socially Divided World, Eradicating Poverty, Designing Cities For People, and The Great Mobilization are spread over 287 pages of dense statistics and research, backed up by nearly another 100 pages of footnotes.

The bad news? There is far more content than is of interest to me - the motivated renewable energy reader. Some day I will wade through the less interesting parts, and then leave the remainder as a source reference.

The book cover heralds "REVISED AND EXPANDED". Actually, I would have preferred the less-is-more previous edition.

not very helpful despite good potential 2 by .. kenneth (CO)
Basically, it is very skeletal review with too little detail and too many missing topics. It does overall good job to address some (yes, only some of the vast amount of step 3 facts) of the high yields topics though.

The cardiology section is unacceptably brief and missing out too many facts such as the management of the major valvular disease, which is critical on step 3!

So if you go over the online Q banks, especially usmleworld qs (very picky and detailed oriented questions) you would keep searching for the better explanations, which are completely missing out on this book.

Of course, I am referring to a review book, not a major text book. But even a review book, it must be reasonably detailed with sufficient coverage of the related topics.

This book would have been much better if the authors would add more details and add more diseases such as Rocky mountain spotted fever, Hyper/hypothyroidism in pregnancy, Geriatrics, opthalmology, trauma medicine, and Pediatrics/Adolescents medicine of better coverage.

It is simply too "lazy" book that hampers the hard earned good reputations for the FA step 1 and 2 in which I did use them extensively for the step 1 and 2.

I used this book as well as several others (i'm guilty of buying TOO many books...)! This book very much helped me with the detail I needed to do very well in areas I didn't remember from Medical School. As a Pediatrics Resident, I highly recommend this book to fill in "the blanks" so to speak.

Love Dragons 5 by .. V. Anglin (Oregon)
This is an excellent book. Can't wait for the next one. It is a little drawn out in places but that is how he writes so you can just skip over those parts. I really enjoy the more active roll the dragons are getting in this book.

Perfect 5 by .. Breann N. Patty ()

Wish I had read the reviews before I bought this !! 3 by .. Yaacov Hoch ()
Brisingr is a great improvement over the previous two books of this series. I stress the word series, because it seems as if Paolini is determined to stretch this out as long as he can.
The only reason I bought this book, is because I had already read the previous two, and assumed it was a trilogy. It isn't !!
Instead the short plot is dragged out across hundreds of pages, only to meet with a totally unsatisfactory end.

Buyers beware !

Far too long of a book to say not much 1 by .. SciFi girl (MA United States)
I concur with many other reviewers - this book's story could easily have been completed within 100-200 pages. While we travel all over Alagaesia, we really don't move very far from where we started at the beginning of the book. While the publishers salivate about raking in more money on a fourth book, I find it really poor story telling.

Every Halo Fan Should Have This 4 by .. Gravemind (New Jersey, USA)
Once again Bungie never ceases to amaze me with how fantastically talented their artists are.

This book has some of the best Halo-related conceptual art I've ever seen. It's well organized and has a nice flow to it. Each chapter covers a different conceptual category such as characters, weapons, vehicles and environments. I especially liked the different iterations of Master Chief's armor and the different takes on the iconic weapons and vehicles. There's even a section on all the merchandising that spawned out of the franchise which I thought was pretty cool. The book really gives you a sense of how rich and detailed the world of Halo really is and how much more there is to discover. You also get a sense of how hard Bungie worked to give us one of the best games ever made. The jacket-less hardcover is a really nice touch and makes the book even more display-worthy. However, the book has a few problems that keep it from getting 5 stars.

First, the paper weight is not heavy enough. The pages tend to ripple when the book is closed and they feel a little to light when flipping pages.

Second, the book has very little text in it aside from the foreword and yet there are quite a few grammar errors in the captions. I don't have the book in front of me to quote any but, trust me, they're there and it's pretty inexcusable.

Third, some of the pages have a dark gray background and the text on those pages are just a shade lighter. This makes it near impossible to read the captions on those pages. I literally had to shine a light close to the page and hold it on an angle close to my face to clearly read the captions on those pages.

Lastly, my only other gripe is that on a number of pages some of the nicest pieces of art work are spread over two pages which just looks bad because the picture gets cut in half and lost in the bind of the book. I definitely preferred the picture format better in the other Halo art book published by Del Rey.

Overall, I thought this was a good art book. If you're a fan of Halo or video games in general definitely pick this book up. Despite the few problems it has it is a very nice hardcover book with beautiful artwork in it for [...]. You can't really beat that.

A great inspiration for concept artists 4 by .. BakerBill ()
It's always a pleasure to be able to see the work of some of Bungie's talented artists, especially Isaac Hannaford, who has made many of the promotional images for Halo 3 that we've seen on posters and magazine covers.

Many elements of the game are covered in this book, including vehicles, weapons, armor and character designs, environments, all that cool stuff you'd expect. All in all, the visuals are great to look at. The book is definitely a must have for both fans of the series as well as sci-fi enthusiasts.

Mightily good 5 by .. Parka (Singapore)
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R1QZ0BOJV2C8CL If you're awed by the fantastic visuals of Halo 3 on screen, this book will give you the concept art that were used to create them

It is filled with concept art on the characters, vehicles, weapons and the environment. Each character comes with lots of design variations. Master Chief itself has 15 variations, all fully painted to the point I can't tell if they are 3D or digital paint. Some of the characters include ODSTs, Arbiter, Brutes, Flood and Strato Sentinel. At the end of the book, several pages are devoted to paintings of Master Chief.

The second and third chapter contains the war vehicles and weapons. There are lots of sketches and paintings. The really cool part is they have included lots of different rifles that weren't use in the game. The captions that appear throughout explain very briefly the ideas behind designs, same goes for all illustrations in the book.

The next section is the environment paintings. All look really fantastic and they printed them big. There are a few beat boards and storyboards but not much.

The last chapter is filled with random stuff. There are photos of miniatures, t-shirts, promotional items and toys.

The book itself is hardcover without any dust jacket with low gloss pages. The paper stock is not thick enough. The paper became wavy from the glorious art printed on it. Luckily, it doesn't affect the visual quality of the pictures in anyway.

This is a wonderful book to complement the game, highly recommended to all concept artists, game developers and fans of Halo 3. For the price, it's worth every cent.

There are more pictures of the art book on my blog. Just visit my Amazon profile for the link.

Fabulous publication! 5 by .. Electromotive Force (Tampa, FL USA)
If there was one thing about HALO I could always call my favorite in terms of pure, stunning visual entertainment, it's always been their art. And not just from Bungie themselves, mind you. The fan art out there is numerous and HQ.

This book is just amazing, and simply so. I believe their aim was to showcase the art, let it speak for itself, which it most certainly did. And I really appreciated the incredibly small captions in the Flood portion of the book, making you really dig deep into the writing if you wanted to learn interesting little tidbits about the UNSC's most formidable foe.

The visuals, as always, are very, very stunning. And images you may have seen before are not only even higher rez, but there are sometimes different permutations of them on the same page! And we definitely see some never-before-seen images that really tell a story of development in the artistic sense. And the capttions provide even more insight into the creative process that goes on behind the scenes.

WIthout giving too much away, I'll just say this was $20 well spent. I could keep picking up this book and I wouldn't get bored. As an avid fan of HALO, I recommend this.

The Art of War 4 by .. JediMacFan (USA)
The Art of Halo 3 is an excellent book, and the sketches and drawings included inside are fantastic. Bungie has some truly gifted people working for them and their skills really show in this book. If you enjoyed The Art of Halo: Creating a Virtual World, then you will not be disappointed with The Art of Halo 3. One big benefit to this book over its predecessor is that it's a hardcover, which is more durable and looks nicer in my collection.

The only real gripe I have with this book are the pages with the dark gray background. The text on these pages is printed with a slightly lighter gray color, which is next to impossible to read (medium gray on dark gray). I wish the book had used white text instead, or an alternate color. Either way, more contrast is needed. Other than that, the book is superb.
