FLAT is better 4 by .. T. Davis (Pacific Northwest USA)
The NEC has gotten so large, that the ability to lay it flat while researching is really nice.

2008 NEC Code book Review 5 by .. Sporte1111 (Olympia WA. USA)
This book is essential to install electrical installations. It basically was created by the National Fire Protection Agency it explains how to install electrical systems so that you do not burn down the house or building down that you wire. It does not teach you how to be an electrician, but it does give you the basic guidelines legal guidelines as to how to install electrical systems. Sporte1111

What I needed, Price I wanted. 5 by .. David K. Jacobs (Talala, OK USA)
I needed this book for my required continuing education units to renew my license in the state of Oklahoma. The price was right, and if I had thought about it sooner (ha, ha) I would not have needed second day shipping and saved even more. Great product, great price.

Ordered Paperback got Looseleaf - Then Review Deleted 1 by .. M. Morgan (Gresham, Oregon, United States)
When I ordered paperback (bound as from publisher) and the book arrived looseleaf punched for a 3-ring binder, we didn't know until we opened it. I posted a review here to save others from the same problem but don't see it anymore. I know that Amazon will get a handle on all the different formats this book come in, and when tabs can be used. The info is available on the NFPA website so it should be easy.

I gave the 3-ring binder version to a buddy so now I want to buy AND RECEIVE the bound conventional paperback version but I can't get an answer from Amazon if the problem is corrected. I don't want to order again and get another looseleaf copy.

Overly wordy novel on CISSP 3 by .. G. Miller (FT Bragg, NC (SOF))
This book is presented in novel format where huge paragraphs dominate.
People don't mentally store information in paragraph format; they store it in bullets or chunks of data so you first have to read the paragraph, then deduce the bullets for mental storage. It's weird but I think most books are written like this.

There are endless stories about security using sometimes inappropriate metaphors for security which don't always equate to the technology at hand.

Also, the chapters aren't laid out in the 10 Domains covered by the CISSP exam so you have to jump around to go through the domains.

By comparison, the Sybex CISSP book does a worse job because the chapters aren't even named in relation to what the ten CISSP domains are so you have to guess which chapter goes to which domain.

There is good use of graphics but there is a lot of extra information not on the exam so if you're looking for a concise technical review of CISSP exam material, look elsewhere.

PS the Shon Harris videos are as long and drawn out.

Wouldn't have passed without it! 5 by .. Andrew Hay (Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada)
I can honestly say that if it weren't for this book I probably would not have passed my CISSP exam. Unlike other prep-guides, Shon engages the reader and keeps their attention. Also, this book doesn't read like a "read this book and pass an exam" book. It reads like a security book which just so happens to teach you the contents of the CISSP CBK. Good work and congrats on the 4th edition.

A Good Baseline for Exam Review 4 by .. Curtis W. Diblin (Moreno Valley, CA United States)
I just passed the CISSP exam using, almost exclusively, the Shon Harris, 4th ed., 'All in ONE, CISSP Exam Guide' - supplementing Harris with some additional materials on networking and encryption. It took me about 7 weeks to study the materials before taking the exam despite a busy work schedule (my background is operations). The book is an excellent resource for most of the 10 knowledge domains with special mention to LAW, and Physical Security. However, the Networking and Encryption Domains were not nearly adequate - not enough information and presented at a level below that of the actual exam. Use the questions at the end of each chapter as review but be WARNED, most of the chapter review questions are much to simple. Seek out other text books for more representative exam questions(combining knowledge with logic and practical scenarios). Also, do not waste your time on the questions found on the CD - way, way to simple. I found the book a little verbose for my taste but the many tables, diagrams, summary areas, and the quite excellent Quick Tips section at the end of each chapter more than made up for this minor flaw.

Bigger books, less knowledge 2 by .. vaaesthete (Virginia USA)
Not sure why this book is so highly rated. Having taken (and passed) the CISSP several years ago, I need to retake this exam and bought three books for review and study purposes. I have a previous version of the Harris book and it is ~900 pages. This new version is 1100+ pages, but seems to be filled more with fluff and some of the actually useful knowledge has been removed! One example which stands out is the removal of the effectiveness and acceptance charts for biometrics methods. This is an important concept and it is entirely ignored in this version. Other things have been changed to no real benefit. The CIA triad (as is the de-facto acronym, even in her previous book) has been renamed to the ICA triad. There is no reason for this.
Finally, the entire book is written in a dumbed-down, cutesy fashion in an attempt (I believe) to make the book more approachable. All it has done, IMO, has increased the number of pages, possibly forcing out relevant materials.
I will pass this test, but it won't be because of this book. Buy the ISC book and the Krutz book (and/or a previous version of the Harris book) - you will not be disappointed.

Shon continues her excellence 5 by .. Marcus Kirk (Ashburn, VA)
If youre going for your CISSP, then this book should be looked at as your first and last line of study!
Shon truly is the best instructor I know of for CISSP!

Achieving "Application Specialist" Excel Know-How 5 by .. Thomas J. Schriber (Ann Arbor, MI USA)
Three cheers for this book and the other Thomson/Course Technology "Comprehensive" books addressing various applications in Microsoft Office 2007 (and, earlier, in Office 2003, etc.). The books are designed for successful use (either on a self-study basis, or in formal courses) on the part of those who, starting with no prior knowledge, want to bring themselves up to a skill level corresponding to what Microsoft terms "Microsoft Certified Application Specialist." Here are some of the distinguishing features of this Excel 2007 book:

(1) The book makes effective use of color, including frequent and well annotated screen shots.

(2) The book presents material in a highly readable, step by step way. (This might be a disadvantage for fast-track users of the book who do not need or want that much "hand holding," but it does mean that just about any motivated person who works conscientiously with the book can achieve success.)

(3) Each of the 12 chapters is set in the context of a "case" providing meaningful settings within which the application potential of Excel is brought into focus, usually in a "business-related" way. (This contrasts with some books that describe "how to do this" and "how to do that," but might lack motivation for WHY it might be of interest to be able to do this or do that.) Peripheral benefit: the book provides an informal introduction to some aspects of business, in the sense of extracting information from data to provide insights and perhaps support fundamental decision making.

(4) Each chapter concludes with a set of five exercises or "cases," starting with an exercise in which the reader is asked to extend the material developed in the body of the chapter. Starting-point workbooks for these exercises (and for the case presented in the body of the chapter itself) can be downloaded from the publisher's website. Workbook "solutions" for the cases can be downloaded by instructors using the book in a course setting. (Although some of the exercises include "explore" steps, the exercises do largely tend to take a "follow the bouncing ball" approach, which helps the user ease into the material but probably falls short for fast-track users who might want to be challenged to be more creative in applying the material, i.e., "Here's a situation, and here's the information that is to be developed in this situation. Starting from scratch and using your own wits entirely, develop the information. No step by step approach is provided for your use. You're on your own. Go to it!"

(5) The book is certified by Microsoft as containing the Excel material that, when mastered, puts the user in a position to pass Microsoft's "Certified Application Specialist" exam. This certification, in turn, can be a valuable resume' entry for some people in the workforce. (Ditto for similar certifications for Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Access, and so on.)

(6) There is a companion book ("Casegrader," by Crews and Murphy, ISBN 978-1-4239-9823-5) consisting of twelve "cases" integrated with the Excel material presented in the corresponding chapters in the Parsons, Oja, Auer, and Carey book. After developing the workbook for a Crews and Murphy case, the workbook can be uploaded to a website for automatic scoring, with a step by step analysis and report produced as a result. (The Crews and Murphy cases fall into the "follow the bouncing ball" category, but have the virtue of forcing use of the Parsons et al. material after the material has been studied. In my opinion, Parsons et al. and Crews and Murphy are best used together in this sequence: (a) Study a Parsons et al. chapter. (b) Do the corresponding Crews and Murphy case, keeping at it until you score 100% on it. (c) Do at least two of the Parsons et al. exercises at the end of the chapter. (d) Proceed to the next Parsons et al. chapter, etc.)

All best wishes for success to users of Parsons et al.

Great Learning and Teaching Tool! 5 by .. Ronnie Henley ()
This product is great for anyone wanting to increase their working knowledge of Excel and especially for those who do not have time to go to a class. Being a trainer, I will use this book to teach others in my profession. Being able to download the ready-made files for tutorial reviews and case problems helps the student to progressive try all the techniques taught. I highly recommend it!

Excel for Dummies is Excellent 5 by .. Gilbert Pemberton (Virginia Beach, VA)
I also own a copy of Windows XP for Dummies Quick Reference by the same author. I was very happy with Windows XP for Dummies which is why I decided to purchase this book. Greg Harvey, PHD does a great job with both books.

Consistent with the "Dummies" style, you will find plenty of explanations in plain English, "get in, get out" information, icons and other navigational ads, tear-out cheat sheets, top ten lists and lots of humor and entertainment.

Before buying this book I tried an on-line video course to help me learn Excel. This book is so much more helpful than anything that I used previously to learn Excel.

book is good but program is a microsoft price gouge 3 by .. George W. Towle ()
the 2007 programs create major problems in business organizations that have massive files in the 2003 version. the cost to convert is astronomical in comparison with the minor cost of the microsoft product.

EXCEL 2007 3 by .. AEF (OHIO)
I have several of these books on different subjects and although it is a good training or reference book, I would have preferred VISUALS as they are much easier for me to follow. What I like about the DUMMY line, is the reading material is in simple terms and not that WAY OUT THERE technical terms that I doubt the real computer geeks even understand.

Useful but... 3 by .. Earth Colony (Marina Del Rey CA)
The section on financial formulas contains some horribly incorrect information (totally wrong on NPV interpretation) and for some reason skips a description of IRR - one of the most used financial functions. Otherwise a good introduction to Excel 2007.

Stephen's Review 5 by .. Stephen B. Roberts ()
The Excel 2007 for Dummies was just what I was looking for. It contained everything, plus some, that I needed to work with this version of Excel.

Should've Been Better 3 by .. Sean A. Rhodes (Aurora, Colorado)
The Expectations of a Bradygames signature series guide are usually higher than that of other guides. Lately, it seems like the only real difference between signature series and not is the quality of the paper. The Tales of Vesperia Guide, while good, doesn't really feel like a "Signature Series" guide at all. Some of the things that detract from it are things that a Signature Series guide ought to have. And not just a signature series guide, but any strategy guide in general.

The guide begins with a prologue that introduces you to the story of the game. It's short and sweet. Although it's not really all that good for anything. After that we get into the characters. The guide shows you their titles as well as their stat growth. The title list would be helpful if it also noted anything special that they do. It's unfortunate, but probably not something most gamers will find to be a big deal in the long run. It is still, however, something very essential to the game itself.

We then get into the basics, which manage to be good for anyone new to the Tales games. Veterans of the Tales series (particularly Tales of the Abyss) will find that they don't need to take a peak at this section at all. Still, there's a vast amount that can be gathered for anyone who isn't familiar with the mechanics of a Tales game.

All this preliminary stuff is covered rather quickly. The walkthrough is where the guide has me divided. Its divided into chapters. Each chapter begins by talking about the story and showing a step by step breakdown of what you'll have to do for that entire chapter. Needless to say, there are spoilers in this guide. Each area you'll visit has its own little walkthrough that covers a lot of the game in great depth and detail. The boss strategies in particular, are excellent. The screenshots are crystal clear.

There are some things, however, the walkthrough doesn't do well. While screenshots are clear, some of them are rather small and hard to make out. Some screens were also taken before the final release of the game and could be missing details (something the author warns you of). I'd have gladly waited a little longer for them to get everything accurate first. On the whole, though, this problem rarely surfaces. There are also some sidquests that are covered in the walkthrough but it might say something like, "Come back when you're at a higher level." Unfortunately, you'll go through a lot of page flipping once you reach their prerequisite just to find the boss again. This wouldn't be such a burden if they at least directed you to the page number. What makes this problem worse, however, is that there are some side quests that are actually covered in their own section. It might've been best to just throw all of the sidequests in there.

The biggest problem with the walkthrough, however, is that there are absolutely no maps of the dungeons or areas in the game. By now including maps should be standard, especially in an RPG guide. The text in the walkthrough is really detailed, but maps to show where to find the treasures or where to go would've been much better.

Don't think for a second this walkthrough won't help because of those problems. There may be no maps, but the walkthrough is so detailed you probably won't need them (this doesn't excuse neglecting them). If you're having trouble with this game it's a great guide to get. It's just hard to let some of those problems go. The screenshot issue isn't so bad, but the side quests and maps can be a huge problem for some gamers who are interested in fully completing the game and finding everything.

Everything after the walkthrough is good, though. Every characters artes are covered and the weapon and items list is fantastic. All the weapons even show the abilities. It's a helpful resource in that area. We then get to the "Extras" chapter. It's good but it only covers what isn't in the walkthrough already. I already talked about how mashing the sidequests into the walkthrough may not have been the best idea, but here, there are some optional things to do that don't get nearly as much attention as others. It also would've been nice had they had a list to point you back to the optional areas in the walkthrough so that the player at least knew where to flip to. The worst part is that the game mentions about a Bonus Dungeon on the second play through but doesn't even bother to detail it at all.

The Tales of Vesperia guide can be summed up easily. It's not a horrible guide or even bad, but it is most certainly mediocre. For an RPG guide not to cover all the sidequests fully and lack maps is unacceptable. You'll get through the main game fine with this guide, but don't expect to master it.

tooo much literal explanation, hard to guess 1 by .. Y. Li (ca)

this is not good book. too much literal explanation, and the most importnat is there has no any screen with highlighted instruction , so user can quick understand where and how to do it. With too many small words to explain the operation, it's hard for user to understand and it takes user too much time to search around the location of what the author trying to point out from the screen.
I was trying to learn more skills of Excel, but after reading couple of chapters from this book, now my enthusiasm is gone!

Too dark to read 3 by .. D. A. Ponder (Woodbridge, Virginia)
The content might be spot on, but it's hard to tell because the book is printed on low grade, grey-colored paper, using grey print, resulting in low contrast. Maybe its recycled paper? Maybe the printing press ran out of ink? Dear Publisher: Hello!! We readers need white paper with black print!! Please send this book back to the Printer and have them try again!

Ok for the moderate user 3 by .. Cynthia Thomason (Lake mary, Fl USA)
As with all these "bible" software books. They are really a handy reference. Particularly for the moderate excel user.

More seasoned users could do just as well with the hundreds of online help areas centered around excel. I picked up this book to help me get over the "ribbon" hurdle with excel; but find I simply use online help rather than cracking open this book.

I give it 3 stars b.c it does what it professes to do.

Not enough VBA 3 by .. Kenneth J. Kunstmann (Hermann, MO USA)
The VBA examples and explanations were not as in depth as I would have liked.

Excel Book 4 by .. K. Weinstock (Ohio)
This is a good intermediate level book for those that use Excel on a regular basis.

Great Book 4 by .. A. Gunraj (Sliver Spring, MD USA)
I bought this book for my class. This book contains the latest standards in the electrical industry. The pictures in the book also give you a head start on working with circuits.

NEC 2008 Handbook 4 by .. M. Ross (Midwestern USA)
This is not a book for the average do-it-yourself. It is, however, the Bible for professional and apprentice electricians, engineers, professional inspectors, and construction professionals who design, build, maintain, and approve residential, commercial, industrial and agricultural electrical systems.

If you are just looking to remodel your bathroom you don't need to buy this book---though you may want to refer to it. If you are making a living in the construction trades, then this book is an essential part of your toolbox.

NEC Review 5 by .. Eric C. Davis ()
I like the NEC because it is a guide for preforming electrical jobs in the workplace. If I don't know the local jurisdiction's preference, I can use the NEC and proceed from there with little fear of reprisal from those concerned authorities. I like the fact that there is a national standard that field techs can refer to for quick reference and guidance on job assignments. This book can save a lot of telephoning for answers to electrical questions.

good book 5 by .. Angel L. Gomez (Aguadilla ,P.R)
es un buen libro tiene mucha ilustracion good book have interesting ilustracion to electricistas recomendado recomended

not bad 3 by .. Pilot Residential (Ohio,USA)
The explainations aid with the technical aspects of the code.
If you are not already in the trade, it won't be much help.
Definatley not for the "do-it-yourselfer" or for the "jack of all trades".
It may give someone pause enough to hire a professional rather than attempting to do the work themselves.
Not a bad thing when it comes to electric work.

This is a classic delivered in a modern top-notch layout, with very clear organization and focus. The first edition was written before the modern-day sidebars, peripheral remarks, and time-consuming case studies. The eigth edition does have some added "extra-material" (like chapter openers), but not at the expense of a clear-cut presentation. In particular, this sets it apart from Alexander/Sadiku (3/ed.).

It also has a more modern and clear feel to it than Dorf/Svaboda, which is also a classic, albeit one to be steered clear of; it has not been modernized like Nilsson's book and was less clearly written from the start.

I enyojed Nilsson/Riedel's narrative, the in-chapter excersices (with answers and with suggested end-of-chapter problems), and the problems (many with answers). With Nilsson, you know your learning is in the hands of an athorative educator.

OK text 3 by .. garde ()
This text is alright, but it does assume prior knowledge of circuits. The exercise problems are way more difficult than any of the examples in the text and not all of the answers are provided in the back of the book. Also, (VERY IMPORTANT) this ISBN does NOT include the PSpice manual that is usually required for a basic circuits course.

Good book for University Class 4 by .. J. Szurley ()
I bought this book for a undergraduate University course. The book is extremely thorough in the topics discussed and has plenty of examples. My only complaint is not having all the answer values in the back of the book, this makes checking my own answers difficult.

Seems good so far 4 by .. C. Betts ()
I'm only 4 chapters into this book, but so far i like it pretty well. It seems more readable than other physics texts ive had. It seems like the biggest complaint ive read about is it being too hard, or not having answers. I have every answer in the book, since it comes with p-spice and i can check them. As far as being more difficult than the examples, that seems to be the case in any physics course ive taken, and i've just gotten used to it i guess. I suppose the fact that i have a great teacher helps a lot, but i definitely dont think this book is as terrible as everybody on here is saying. Just a quick word to the post "a stinker", we were assigned problem 2.11, and using p=IV and V=IR, its a simple problem.

Well organized 4 by .. Bradley Jamison Conte ()
The book is organized very well. It's clear, uses appropriate boxes/highlighting, and succinct. It was more explanatory than my teacher was most of the time. Doesn't shirk from doing the math, but not too math-based.
